I asked Mr. Kinneson to send me or e-mail sketches in or around the second week of June, and it is now late July and I have nothing since he came to my house on April 28th. except some pamphlets. This company is the only one, out of others that I have dealt with, that come to your house and won't do a thing until you pay a down payment. I expected to have something by now and not have to play "phone tag" for the exorbitant down payment I was pressured into to. The improvements were planned to help my wife cope with he illness (i.e.Lupus), and all I got for my $1000 was a runaround and feeling of being cheated--no plans, no estimates, no site visits--as detailed in their agreement. Ironically, their pamphlets all refer to Proverbs 16:3 "Commit your work to the Lord, then it will succeed." I am severely disappointed and would not do any business with them. It's easy to quote from the Bible, its another thing to practice it!
Description of Work: I wanted Dave Fox Remodeling to provide an estimate for a sunroom/deck and a small front porch on my 1.5 year old house in Dublin. The estimator (Mr. Kinneson)came and looked briefly at the back of the house, then sat down and wanted me to sign a "Project Planning Agreement." He said it was needed before they could give any estimate or written plan. I wrote the check (against my better judgment) and then watched him take measurements for 30 minutes, then he left. Four weeks later, Mr. Kinneson left a message that the plans were ready in late May. I called back and left him a message the first week in June. After playing phone tag for two weeks, I proposed a meeting on June 19th where he could go over the plans. I never got a call back. I FINALLY got a call back the following week with a curse message in my voice mailbox. I tried to reach him two more times...but to no avail. I still have no floor plans, project details, cost estimates, itemized specs, or anything.

IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT THIS CUSTOMER HAS DEVELOPED THE IMPRESSION THAT HE DID NOT RECEIVE VALUE FOR THE DESIGN STUDY. WE GO THROUGH GREAT LENGTHS TO PROTECT CONSUMERS FROM BEING MISLEAD BY "FREE" ESTIMATES AND THE NONCOMMITTAL NATURE OF THEIR CONTENT. WE EXPECT OUR CUSTOMERS TO TAKE THEIR PROJECTS AS SERIOUSLY AS THEY EXPECT US TO; THEREFORE, WE ASK TO BE COMPENSATED TO PERFORM A DESIGN STUDY AND COMPREHENSIVE ANALYSIS THAT PRODUCES AN INVESTMENT "QUOTE". THE DESIGN FEE BECOMES A CREDIT TO THE PROJECT WHEN WE PROCEED WITH CONSTRUCTION. AS THIS CLIENT STATED, THERE WAS A LOT OF PHONE TAG; HOWEVER, OUR EMPLOYEE HAS NEVER LEFT A DISRESPECTFUL OR “CURSE MESSAGE” AS REFERENCED BY THE CUSTOMER. THE JUNE 19TH MEETING HAD BEEN CONFIRMED, BUT CANCELED BY THE CLIENT IN ADVANCE. PLANS WERE DELIVERED TO THE CLIENT VIA MAIL AFTER FAILED ATTEMPTS TO REACH HIM TO RESCHEDULE. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE PLANS AND FOLLOW-UP MESSAGES WERE NOT RETURNED. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT EXAMPLE OF THE POWER OF POOR COMMUNICATION IN A PROCESS THAT REQUIRES A PARTNERSHIP.

Everyone on the project was a true professional. They were concerned with our input, comments, and feelings every step of the way. It was as though the project was as personal to them as it was to us. Our project manager kept the project moving so that we never felt we were in limbo. We were able to make changes as our vision of the new kitchen came into clearer focus. The result is a spectacular workplace that we would have not thought possible when we began. We credit and thank the entire ''Design/Build Team'' at Dave Fox Remodeling.
Description of Work: As our bathroom remodel drew to a close, Dave Fox Remodeling began a second project to completely redo the kitchen of our 65 year old home. We again removed walls entirely, changing the feel of the space. The kitchen was transformed from a space too small for one person to a space large enough for several people to work comfortably, and we did not have to sacrifice space from any other part of the house. The ''Design/Build Team'' used their creativity and experience to take advantage of every square inch of available space. They paid attention to the tiniest details to assure that we would be pleased with the finished product. The end result is a kitchen that far exceeds our initial expectations. We're thrilled with the result.

I am writing on behalf of my father and mother whose home in Westerville underwent an ADA remodeling by Dave Fox in 2005. My parents and I have nothing but the highest praise for the professionalism and care that taken on this extensive project. The staff of designers, decorators, supervisors, and craftsmen were all professional, competent, and honest.
Description of Work: Home is a 4 bedroom ranch- homeowners needed to adapt space so that they could stay at home with growing physical challenges. From an existing bedroom- created a laundry room and bathroom with roll in shower, grab bars, and other adaptations for wheelchair use. Laid linoleum in a single sheet. Plumbing, electrical, custom made armoire and cabinets. Widened several doorways, including an exterior door, took out a pocket door, and refinished hardwood floors. Remodeled one closet and created another. Installed a wheelchair lift in the garage.

IT WAS A SINCERE HONOR TO HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO REMODEL THIS CLIENT’S HOME. THE ENTIRE FAMILY WAS INVOLVED TO MAKE SURE THE BEST SOLUTION WAS DESIGNED BEFORE WE MOVED INTO CONSTRUCTION. THE PROJECT TRULY ENHANCED THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR THIS CUSTOMER. WE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT UNIVERSAL DESIGN AND PUSHED OUR DESIGN TEAM TO THE LIMIT TO MAKE SURE THIS COUPLE COULD REMAIN IN THEIR HOME FOR YEARS TO COME. THANK YOU FOR BEING GREAT PARTNERS DURING THE PROJECT AND FRIENDS OF DAVE FOX REMODELING.

Main team-Mike Hargraves/Dave Schicks/Louise Budde. Mike, after several months took time to refresh himself from notes before our 2nd meeting. He came to the house once a week checking on things. Dave, our project manager was amazing. He kept a board posted with 2 wks of events. Everyday Dave checked in with us. We could contact them and get a call back the same day. Dave did alot of the work and he wanted perfection and worked until it was. The end results were exactly what we wanted. Louise, the designer. She has great ideas and knows what will work. She keeps the project moving forward by coordinating all supplies needed. The contractors were some of the best we have seen. They are dedicated to doing the best job. All of them were professional and committed. The client is #1 with everyone at Dave Fox. Dave Fox is about pride and integrity. Pride in what they do and in how they do it. Integrity because they stand behind what they tell you. They care about being the best they can be.
Description of Work: Main bathroom remodeled, master bedroom added to and master bedroom closet and hallway added. Unlimited Renovations did the painting.

Passable work quality. A much drawn out remodeling process of 6 weeks. Did not expect to have to enforce such basic minimal quality standards. Staff responded to all requests to improve quality until it was done well.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen countertops. Supplied countertop, water filtration system, mixer lifter mechanism, tilt out trays. Installed cooktop, water filtration system, tambour (appliance garage), mixer lifter (in space vacated by drawers), & tilt out trays & hinges. Made & installed (paintable plywood) cabinet frames & doors for about 24 square feet of open shelving. Eight doors with frames.

I paid a premium price for substandard work. My many problems included poor carpentry and used wood in the new corner supports of the windows with nicks and cracks filled with a filler which couldn't be stained. Flooring which didn't come to the wall so that the shoe molding had to be installed the wrong way (still with a gap). Had major problems with dust with no barrier erected to protect the house from concrete drilling; concerns about permits and support of the house with removal of two load-bearing walls; a stucco patch repaired three times and still left cracked, indented, with residue on the surrounding wall. The work was done ahead of schedule, the carpentry on the decks was good (compared to the poor work subcontractors did on the windows), and the interior decorator was helpful. But I had to constantly watch them and wound up hiring two other builders to inspect their work because I was concerned about the structure of the house as well as the appearance of the work.
Description of Work: The company removed and replaced two decks, replaced 4 windows and built a corner support to bridge the windows being installed, moved one window to a new wall and replaced it with a sliding door and deck, and replaced flooring.

AT THE TIME DAVE FOX REMODELING WAS CREATING A FINAL PUNCH LIST FOR THE MEMBER, SHE COMPLIMENTED THE WORK AND PAID THE REMAINING BALANCE IN FULL. EVEN WHEN ASKED IF SHE WOULD LIKE TO HOLD SOME MONEY BACK UNTIL THE FINAL PUNCH OUT ITEMS WERE COMPLETED. SHE ASKED US TO REUSE THE EXISTING WINDOW TRIM FOR WINDOWS THAT WERE REPLACED TO SAVE MONEY. THE WOOD WAS INDEED SLIGHTLY DAMAGED FROM PREVIOUS FINISHING NAILS AND DOES NOT HAVE THE APPEARANCE OF NEW TRIM WHEN INSTALLED. SHE BROUGHT UP A CONCERN ABOUT HAVING A PROPER PERMIT FOR HER PROJECT AND THE PLANS HAD BEEN REVIEWED WITH HER PRIOR TO THE START OF HER PROJECT THAT INCLUDED PERMIT APPROVAL. THE SET OF PLANS THAT SHE HAS IN HER POSSESSION HAVE THAT SEAL OF APPROVAL STAMPED ON THEM. THE ISSUE WITH THE STUCCO RELATED TO THE WEATHER NOT BEING SUITABLE TO COMPLETE, THE SIZE OF THE PATCH WAS 2" X 8" AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AFTER THE INCORRECT MATERIAL WAS USED FOR THE FIRST APPLICATION. WE OFFERED TO ARRANGE TO HAVE THE WORK COMPLETED AND PAID FOR WITH A CONTRACTOR THAT SHE CLAIMED TO HAVE RAISED CONCERNS ABOUT OUR QUALITY OF WORK. WE CONTACTED THE CONTRACTOR WHO SAID HE THOUGHT WE DID A GREAT JOB, AND HE WOULD NOT BE INTERESTED IN DOING THAT SPECIFIC REPAIR FOR MEMBER. WE FEEL THAT WE MAY HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COMMUNICATE MORE CLEARLY WITH HER THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT TO ELIMINATE SOME OF HER CONCERNS, BUT DO NOT FEEL THAT THE SEVERITY OF HER COMPLAINT IS JUSTIFIABLE.

The design work was performed poorly by a new salesman who didn't have a clue what he was doing. Before the kitchen cabinets were ordered, my wife was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Rather than simply postponing the work, we decided to cancel, especially since we were not at all happy with the design. Since they had received substantial down payments from us, they got to decide how much they gave back. Even after discussing the matter with Dave Fox twice personally, they charged us more than twice what they should have, based on the time they put in (especially considering that it was on-the-job training for the salesman), for a design that was worth $0. I would have sued them, but had more important matters to deal with. I feel this company took advantage of our misery, and would not recommend them to my worst enemy. P.S. - My wife's surgeries were successful, and we had the work done by an excellent contractor - J S Brown
Description of Work: Started working with them on a new kitchen. After they had done quite a lot of design work, we decided we would like to add improvements to two bathrooms and install hardwood floors. Because of the extensive design work they were doing, and with plans to enter the kitchen cabinet order before a price increase, quite a lot of money was paid upfront.

THIS IS THE FIRST WE HAVE HEARD OF ANY CONCERNS BY THEM. THE DESIGN OF THE PROJECT WAS INTITALLY HANDLED BY TWO DESIGNERS WHO PRESENTED SEVERAL OPTIONS FOR A DESIGN SOLUTION. ONE OF THE DESIGNERS WAS EVENTUALLLY PHASED OUT OF THE PROJECT SO THE CLIENT WOULD HAVE A SPECIFIC POINT OF CONTACT WHO HAD A CLEAR UNDERSTANDING OF THE PROJECTS OBJECTIVES. THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT CONTINUED TO GROW, AND THE FINAL DETAILS OF THE PLAN WERE BEING WORKED OUT AT THE TIME THAT WE WERE MADE AWARE OF HER DIAGNOSIS. AT THE TIME THAT THE CLIENT DECIDED TO CANCEL PLANS TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THE PROJECT, HE SPECIFICALLY STATED THAT HE WANTED TO COMPENSATE OUR COMPANY FOR THE TIME THAT HAD BEEN PUT INTO THE PROJECT. AFTER ALL HOURS AND COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE PROJECT WERE TALLIED, A REFUND FOR THE DIFFERENCE WAS SEND TO HIM. WE ARE TRULY SORRY THEY FEEL THAT THEY DID NOT RECEIVE ANY VALUE FOR THEIR INVESTMENT, AND ARE HAPPY TO LEARN THAT SHE IS DOING WELL.

WE WERE SHOPPING FOR CONTRACTORS IN JULY. DAVE FOX WAS ONE OF THOSE WE HAD CONTACTED AT THAT TIME, SO THAT WORK COULD BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER. IT TOOK SEVERAL PHONE CALLS AND OVER A WEEK TO ARRANGE AN APPOINTMENT. THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS PROFESSIONAL, PUNCTUAL AND REVIEWED THE SCOPE OF WORK. HE SHOWED PICTURES OF PREVIOUS WORK PERFORMED, WHICH RANGED FROM BASIC (SIMPLE DRYWALL FINISH) TO LUXURIOUS (MEDIA/THEATRE CENTER WITH EXOTIC WOODS, WET BAR, WINE CELLAR ETC.). HOWEVER, THE REP INDICATED DAVE FOX HAS A POLICY OF ASSESSING 2% OF THE TOTAL BUDGET UP-FRONT TO DRAFT AN ESTIMATE. THIS IS TO COVER THE COST OF EVALUATING THE WORK AND THE COMMITMENT BY THE CUSTOMER, ETC. WE DID GET A RANGE OF 50K TO 100K, BUT NO SPECIFICS. THIS WAS ODD TO US FOR 2 REASONS: 1) DAVE FOX WAS THE ONLY CONTRACTOR WITH THIS REQUIREMENT OUT OF THE 5 WE CONTACTED FOR ESTIMATES. 2) THE TOTAL BUDGET ALLOCATED DEPENDS ON THE ESTIMATE IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE VENDOR WAS NOT CONSIDERED DUE TO THIS.

WE HAD HIRED DAVE FOX ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO TO INSTALL SKYLIGHTS AND WERE VERY PLEASED WITH THE WORK. SO, WE WERE QUITE DISAPPOINTED AND SURPRISED THAT THEY REFUSED TO RETURN ANY OF OUR 5 PHONE CALLS PLACED OVER THE PAST 1 1/2 MONTHS. WE WERE READY TO HIRE THEM ON THE SPOT TO REPLACE ANOTHER SKYLIGHT, AND TOLD THEM AS MUCH IN OUR NUMEROUS VOICE MAIL MESSAGES AND CONVERSATIONS WITH THE SECRETARY. BUT, APPARENTLY EVEN BEGGING FOR DAVE FOX TO DO WORK FOR YOU DOESN'T PRODUCE RESULTS. I EVEN MENTIONED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION THAT I WAS A MEMBER OF ANGIE'S LIST, BUT DAVE FOX SEEMINGLY DOESN'T CARE. I WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN BECAUSE OF THEIR RUDENESS, LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM, AND THE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE THEY'VE SHOWN TO A FORMER CLIENT. TWO THUMBS DOWN TO YOU, DAVE FOX.

WHEN WE RECEIVED THIS REPORT BASED ON WORK PERFORMED IN 2003, THE CLIENT WAS IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED. WHEN ASKED WHO MESSAGES WERE LEFT FOR AND WHAT NUMBER WAS BEING DIALED, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE HUSBAND WAS DIALING AN INCORRECT PHONE NUMBER FOR OUR OFFICES. HE APOLOGIZED FOR THE MISUNDERSTANDING, AND SHARED HIS FRUSTRATION, AS WE SHARED OURS. THE NUMBER WAS A MISPRINT BY THE YELLOW PAGES UNDER ONE OF OUR LISTINGS. THE WORK WAS PERFORMED IN A TIMELY MANNER. DENNIS LEONARD SAID THAT REPLACING THE ITEMS MENTIONED WOULD CORRECT THE WATER PROBLEM. IT IS OUR INTENTION AS A COMPANY TO NOT LEAVE A CLIENT HANGING WITH A PROBLEM, SO WE HAD OUR CONSTRUCTION MANAGER VISIT THE MEMBER’S HOME TO OFFER ALTERNATE SOLUTIONS FOR ADDRESSING A PRE-EXISTING WATER LEAK ISSUE. WE WERE ORIGINALLY CONTRACTED TO “REPLACE FRONT STEPS AND SIDEWALK FROM FRONT DOOR TO DRIVEWAY TO INCLUDE LEVELING GARAGE ENTRY PAD.” CORRECTING A WATER PROBLEM WAS NOT PART OF THE CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT. AS OF AUGUST 22, 2005 THE CLIENT CONTINUED TO STATE SATISFACTION WITH THE WORK WE COMPLETED BUT IS DISSATISFIED WITH A LEAK THAT PERSISTS. WE TRY HARD TO SATISFY OUR CLIENTS AND THIS ISSUE IS OF PARTICULAR CONCERN BECAUSE THE PROBLEM IS NOT A RESULT OF OUR WORK. WE PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED A COMPLETED CUSTOMER SATISFACTION SURVEY FROM THE MEMBER MAY 20, 2005 THAT REVEALED ALL EXCELLENT MARKS, AND A STATEMENT SHE WOULD RECOMMEND OUR COMPANY TO OTHERS. COMPANY POLICY IS TO FOLLOW UP WITH ALL CLIENTS AFTER PROJECTS ARE COMPLETED TO DISCUSS THE PROJECT AND TO DETERMINE IF WE CAN IMPROVE OUR SERVICE IN THE FUTURE. THE MEMBER WAS CONTACTED JULY 9, 2005 REGARDING HER PROJECT. SHE COMPLIMENTED OUR KNOWLEDGE, CUSTOMER SERVICE, FINISHED PRODUCT, AND SAID SHE WOULD BE A GOOD REFERENCE. SHE WAS NOTIFIED THAT SHE COULD CONTACT THE SALES MANAGER DIRECTLY WITH ANY FURTHER NEEDS. WE ARE DISTRESSED THAT THIS CUSTOMER WOULD TRY TO HOLD US ACCOUNTABLE FOR A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION THAT IS CLEARLY OUTSIDE THE SCOPE OF THE WORK PERFORMED.

WE VISITED THE CLIENTS JOB TO SEE WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THE LEAK, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE WASN'T ANY PLUMBING WORK PERFORMED AS PART OF THIS PROJECT. WHEN WE TRACKED WHERE THE LEAK ORIGINATED FROM, IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE HOSE BIB (SPICKET) ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE FROZE AS A RESULT OF IT BEING BLOCKED BY SOMETHING SUCH AS A HOSE STILL ATTACHED. THE CLIENT CLAIMED THERE WAS NO HOSE ATTACHED, SO IT IS STILL UNDETERMINED WHAT WAS BLOCKING THE WATER LINE AT THE SPICKET TO CAUSE IT TO EXPAND AND LEAK DOWN THE INSIDE WALL OF THE BASEMENT. THE SITUATION IS UNFORTUNATE, BUT UNRELATED TO THE WORK COMPLETED FOR THIS MEMBER.

THE GENTLEMAN WHO CAME OUT TO TALK WITH US ABOUT THE JOB (THEY DON'T DO ESTIMATES, AT LEAST NOT FOR FREE) SPENT MORE TIME SHOWING US THE AWARDS HE AND THE OWNER HAD WON AND LESS TIME LOOKING AT OUR BASEMENT AND LISTENING TO US. HE WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT SOME OF THE ISSUES (LOW CEILING HEIGHTS) AND SEEMED PESSIMISTIC ABOUT GETTING VARIANCES (IT SEEMED LIKE HE WAS ADDING TO THE BILL FOR ALL THE TIME HE'D HAVE TO SPEND PERMITTING THE JOB, ETC.), ESPECIALLY AFTER WE TOLD HIM OUR PRICE RANGE. HE WOULDN'T GIVE US ANY SPECIFICS UNTIL/UNLESS WE PAID $750 (OR 2% OF THE FINAL JOB COST, WHICHEVER WAS MORE) FOR A ''DESIGNING FEE''. THE FIRST MEETING WAS JUST TO SHOW OFF THE COMPANY AND IMPRESS US. WE WEREN'T IMPRESSED HOWEVER, ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THE BIBLICAL VERSES SPLASHED ON HIS BUSINESS CARDS AND HIS COMPANY LITERATURE.

THE QUALITY OF THE WORK WAS VERY POOR. SUB-CONTRACT WORK HAD TO BE REDONE OR REVISED MULTIPLE TIMES. THEY FAILED ELECTRICAL AND STRUCTURAL INSPECTIONS. THE SITE MANAGER DEVIATED FROM THE PLANS AND THEN TRIED TO PUT THE BLAME ON OTHERS. THEY WILL TOTALLY DESTROY YOUR YARD WHILE WORKING AND THEREFORE MAKE YOU SIGN A CONTRACT THAT SAYS THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE TO THE PROPERTY.
Description of Work: 4 SEASON ROOM ADDITION; SIZE 14FT X 20FT
