Dave came promptly and gave a very competetive bid. The replacement of the trim along the eaves was done well. He finished the job quickly and cleaned up the area nicely. I had a small problem with scheduling the work. We had discussed a date for him to do the work, but I told him I would call and confirm the exact date a few days before that because we had Vament Guard trapping squirrels that were in the attic spaces and we wanted to make sure they were removed before sealing up the eaves. When I called Dave to have him start the work, he had taken another job and wanted to delay ours for a week. After some discussion, he agreed to delay only three days.
Description of Work: Dave tore out and replaced about 40 ft of trim along the eaves of the roof, caulking the area where the wood meets the brick.

The finished work is satisfactory. I chose this company because of the contractor's initial responsiveness and because the estimate was similar to another estimate (which was later in coming). After getting an estimate from a second company, I asked this contractor to include in the job another section of damaged shingles and to use primed shingles, rather than unprimed that he included in the original estimate. I specifically asked "will this double the estimate" when trying to get an idea of how much this would add to the original estimate. The contractor would not give a number, but said it would not double the cost. In the end, I did have to pay just about double from the original estimate. There was a problem in that I added work to the order, but the owner had not done this type of work before, so underestimated the work involved. This made for an unfortunate and costly combination. I now know that, regardless of their rating or number of reports, I must ask whether or not a contractor has performed the type of work that I am asking for. That said, it would have be appropriate for the contractor to have volunteered that he had not done this type of work before. With that information, I would probably have gone with the other company, which clearly did have experience in replacing shingles, and so their estimate was much more likely to have been on target (and that estimate had, proactively, included the section of shingles that I had added to the order of the first contractor). There was also some work that had to be corrected (shingles that were not aligned with shingles on the rest of the house). The owner did address this, but I was the one that noticed it.

we had an original agreement to the job. The member added a huge corner section, which took-up a good part of a day. she also changed the shingles to be primed, which she was aware of that added 100.00 to the bill. I contacted her the first day on the job that there would be an adjustment on the price. she agreed to everything. due to the shingles being so old on her house.Although she is pleased with my work, im sorry that it didnt work-out with the price. thanks, dave's carpentry

Dave's work was excellent. He was prompt and responsive. He arrived when he said he would and completed the project when he said he would. The price was just right. The porch looks excellent -- gives my house a ton of curb appeal and fits in with the overall look of the home. Would highly recommend him.

I contacted Dave and he agreed to come out on the Saturday before Easter to see the joist. Later, he rescheduled to come out Friday evening which was more convenient for both of us. He gave us an estimate of $450, but said he would knock of $50 if we would allow him to put a sign in our yard until he finished the job. (We did.) I also asked him if he could cut me a piece of plywood to replace the bottom of a wooden chair we own. He looked at it, and said he would make something nice for it, not just a piece of plywood since, as a carpenter, he would want something that looked good and was appropriate for the chair. He said he'd get back to and do the work hopefully by the end of the next week. Due to the bad weather, he didn't contact us till Friday, and we scheduled for the following Tuesday. He arrived as promised, fixed the joist, created a new access panel for the tub plumbing, and brought a lovely new bottom piece for our chair. Dave is friendly and likes to talk with his customers, but is still professional. He seems and honest and trustworthy man, which to me is as important as the quality of his work. I would definitely hire him again. Despite the time and effort he took to do the extra little side job for us, he kept to his original quote and only charged us $400.
Description of Work: Previous contractors had improperly installed a drain for the tub in the Master bath. The drainpipe was too small, and they had cut away a supporting joist for the tub, causing it to be unsafe. A plumber diagnosed the problem and we called Dave to repair the joist. He did, and the tub is now safe to use.

I called Dave to see if he could replace a section of our bathroom subfloor that had rotted due to some water damage. He came out very quickly to look at the problem and was able to fix it the very next day. He was prompt, professional and did a fine job. I will be calling Dave again very soon to complete another project that we discussed. I highly recommend Dave's Carpentry.

He ruined a $3000 door that was ordered from out of the country. Our energy bills are going up now. Weatherstripping was not put where we asked it to be. There was a problem with the square frame of a screen door. He was to have it repaired and he did not. A lock set was not placed properly so it does not align with the hole. We also contacted the city of Columbus and found out he does not have a license as a home improvement contractor as he advertises in the Angie's List magazine. The measuring was negligent which caused a lot of problems. We are frustrated and we just want to have this all resolved.

I met with him and I should have ran from day-one. When he said that he had not got along with any other contractors but I just looked at it as a challenge. He was to supply the materials for his projects. Me and my laborer hung the front door, and finished all the other projects that could be completed due to lack of material. I WAS PAID IN FULL... His wife [which is a wonderful person] ask me to take the old front door away. just before getting home, he called saying he wanted his old door returned. and while I was there to complete the jobs that he did not have the material for the first time. NEVER ONCE SAYING ANYTHING ABOUT A DAMAGED FRONT DOOR, just that it need a threshold which he had a good month to get prior to me coming out the first time. After 3 days I returned with the door and to do the other jobs [which his wife agreed to pay me more to do]and not tell him about it. Because I did free work the first out there, that wasn't on the list, and free work the second time out there, because of her kindness. He again bought the wrong threshold. He bought a 3ft. threshold for a 4ft. door. Not to much I can do with that. She was going to write me a check for the extra work and the extra time to come back out, and I declined, trying to establish another good client. That's when she told me that he had canceled my first check. That she was to write me another, when I finished-up again which cost me 10.00 at my bank. Why pay in full TWICE, if the door was ruined. I'm hoping that other contractors will be able to read this, and stay away from him. Sign your contract with her. She's good people.. Thanks, Dave's Carpentry. Dave Prindle-Owner

We needed to replace our rotting wood shutters on our home(built in 1937). The shutters have a unique style, and we wanted to keep the replacements true to the character of the house. We found a few companies on the Internet that would custom build, but they were at twice the price. Dave could not give us an exact estimate because he had not made shutters before; he could only tell us how much he charged per hour. He offered to make one shutter, let us know how much it cost, and we would decide whether to move forward with the remaining shutters. Normally, we would want a solid estimate, but we had a good feeling about Dave so we moved forward. What a great decision. The shutters are absolutely perfect. They are exact replicas of the originals, and they are extremely sturdy and well made. The shutters are expensive, but the work was very labor intensive and we feel it was well worth it. The work is beautiful, and we are extremely happy.

I MET THE MEMBER AT THE APPOINTED TIME. SHE WANTED ME TO FINISH BUILDING A SHED/PLAY AREA THAT SOMEONE ELSE HAD STARTED. SHE SHOWED ME INSIDE THE SHED, SOME BOXES AND PIECES OF MATERIAL THAT SHE HAD FOR THE JOB. SHE TOLD ME WHAT-EVER WASN'T THERE THAT I NEEDED I COULD GO AND GET. SHE WAS LOOKING FOR A FLAT-OUT BID. I WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD NEED UNTIL I GOT STARTED ON THE JOB. SO I WOULD HAVE EITHER UNDER BIDDED OR OVER BIDDED THE JOB, WHICH WASN'T FAIR TO EITHER ONE OF US. I THEN TOLD HER I WOULD WORK BY THE HOUR AND GAVE HER A FAIR PRICE AND EXPLAINED IF SHE WASN'T HAPPY WITH OUR WORK THE FIRST DAY, SHE COULD PAY US FOR OUR TIME WITH NO HARD FEELINGS. I BECOME FRIENDS WITH A LOT OF MY CLIENTS, I'VE INVITED THEM TO PARTIES, CHURCH, AND OTHER OCCASIONS, AND THEY HAVE DONE THE SAME. I AM A CHRISTIAN, AND THE MEMBER AND I SPENT MOST OF THE TIME TALKING ABOUT GOD. IT WAS A GREAT CONVERSATION, IT ALWAYS IS. I LEFT THERE FEELING GOOD, WEATHER I GOT THE JOB OR NOT. I DON'T WHY SHE WOULD WRITE SUCH A REPORT. I FEEL BAD TRYING TO TO EXPLAIN MYSELF, BUT IF I DID OFFEND HER IN ANY WAY, I WOULD LIKE TO SAY I'M SORRY. THANKS FOR READING MY REPLY... DAVE'S CARPENTRY

Dave responded quickly, answered my phone calls without going to voice mail, was very professional, and priced reasonably.
Description of Work: Called Dave to replace a rotted facia board behind a gutter on the 2nd story. He responded and we set up a repair date. When he had finished this, he pointed out other areas that had water penetration and rot where it couldn't be seen from the ground. Had him repair that area also. His checking beyond what I could see prevented more serious problems down the road.

We agreed that he would build the bookcases on a rainy day basis (IE when he could squeeze it in) and then install them later. He kept us up to date on what was going on and met with us a few times. He pre-built as much as he could so that the actual installation would be fairly quick. We wanted something a little out of the ordinary but he did it just as we asked and his measurements were very precise. The area where the bookcases were to go in was a challenge so they had to do a lot of extra maneuvering to get them in. He also was conscientious of the irregularities of our plaster walls and cut the trim to follow the wall. Some plaster had become swollen and had to be removed but nothing unexpected. He cleaned up everything and was accommodating of my schedule. The bookcases look great and they are very sturdy. They look like they have been there all along.

We are having our house painted and the painters power washed the trim and stucco before painting. This process revealed two cedar boards that were rotting and needed to be replaced before the trim could be painted. I immediately checked Angie's List and called several carpenters. Dave Prindle was the quickest to respond to my phone call and made arrangements to give an estimate the next day. We accepted his estimate and he was here to install the wood the very next day. He was very professional, courteous, prompt and efficient. We really appreciate the fact that he was able to take on this job on such short notice which then enabled our painters to go on with their job without waiting for a carpenter to come.

Dave was enthusiastic about the job. He had many valuable recommendations and ideas to make the project work for us further than we thought. He was always on time and very respectable. He started by removing the existing fireplace mantle. He considered what we were trying to accomplish and build a fireplace surround/wall to accommodate our equipments needs. He was working in a house that is over 100 years old. This project was finished on time and on budget.

It went very well. I had obtained an estimate from another contractor/remodeler which seemed high-flat fee. I contacted Dave right before the holidays and set up a good time to meet between Christmas and New Years. Dave arrived on time on a Saturday to give me the estimate. He was very laid back-no pressure, quietly confident. He offered to do the job by the hour which I liked and he gave me a estimate of approximately 2 days. I asked for references and he gave me 2 names. I called them and they were positive. I called him and told him he had the job. We didn't have anything in writing which in hind-site, may have been foolish but he gained my confidence and offered that. He arrived on schedule on a Weds morning and finished up mid-after noon the next day, 12hrs total and less than 1/2 the other estimate! His specialty is trim/finish work so this was not detail-oriented work but I like what I see and will likely have him back for the trim work after our drywall is hung for the finished
Description of Work: Dave finished the rough framing for my basement. I completed approximately. 80% of the job but wanted a professional to do the important steps of squaring up walls, checking doors and attaching wall studs to the concrete floor. He also made the "chases" or framing around AC/heating ducts along the ceiling. The space was approximately 900 sq.ft. He had to reset the 3 doors I had hung.
