Everything went well. We love our new bench and the added storage is wonderful. Dave & Sean were great to work with. Communicated very well, worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves.

Dave came to my house and gave me a estimate on how much it would cost to install the crown molding on my cabinets, then we kept in contact and he was able to complete the service the next week. Seth, a carpenter from the business came out and installed the crown molding, he did a excellent job.

The process went really well. He came back to present the estimate in paper form and provide an approximate date that he could begin work. Dave didn't actually do the work, one of his employees, Butch, did the work. After taking the door out - we had good news and bad news. The good news was that we didn't have to replace a floor joist which also meant they did not have to tear out a small portion of the sunroom's bamboo flooring. The bad news was that the bottom of the door was rotting which meant for the same price of labor of repairing the existing door so we decided to go with the new door.
Description of Work: Replaced rotting wood under a french door under an add on construction. Dave came out and looked over the situation. He provided what he thought his plan would be. But he also indicated that he wouldn't know everything that needed to be done since there was no crawl space under the addition. He provided an estimate a couple of days later.

He was very punctual in the time frame he gave me to start the job and finish it. The work was done by him. He cleaned as he worked. It took him two days to complete the project. I was very impressed with the finished project and would recommend him to anyone.
Description of Work: My crown molding was pulling loose from my chimney any it was causing a small amount of sagging to my ceiling beamsj. He obtained measurements of the crown molding and the beams then he obtains the wood needed to secure the beams and crown molding to the ceiling/ceiling, he stained them as best as he could to match the beams then put them up. As it turned out the stain matched the stain to my French patio doors and I loved it.

I sent Dave an email off of the List, and he got back to me the next day. By the end of the week, his guys (and gal) were working on my fence! The job was slightly delayed due to the rainy weather, but once they got going, it went quickly. Now it looks like we have a beautiful new fence(even though we only replaced half of it).
Description of Work: Tore out the top of old fence and replaced it with new, more sturdy design.

Very professional, very good communications. Clean-up was awesome. Dave really knows his stuff! After calling 3 other "handy-men," Dave was the only one who called me back AND came out and looked at my job AND gave me a quote AND followed up with a timeline to get the work done! I wish I'd called him FIRST.

I found Dave's Carpentry on Angie's List and called to schedule an estimate on some work that needed done due to theft of copper in a vacant house. I was surprised when Dave actually answered the phone while he was on another job site, because I had called several of his competitors in the days before and left messages and none of them returned phone calls to me until 3 or 4 days later, so actually getting to talk to someone right away, I knew he and his company would handle my repairs professionally. Dave came out the next day and gave me the estimate for the ceiling in the basement that needed a total replacement, due to the HVAC and copper being stolen from the house. The house was vacant and in the middle of a real estate sale pending, so the work needed to be done soon and for a reasonable price. Dave's carpentry was very reasonable with the pricing and completed the job that week. You could never tell that the ceiling had been replaced, because it matched the existing ceiling so well. Dave went above and beyond his quote for just the drywall ceiling replacement and he actually went ahead and painted the ceiling at no extra charge. He provided detailed estimates for this job that had to be turned into the insurance company for a claim on the repair, and then once the repair was completed he provided a great receipt and write up of the work that was performed, so that it could be turned in for final payment for the insurance company to reimburse the cost of the repair. I have used his services several times since then for remodel, repair, and drywall work and I would highly recommend his services. No job is too big or too small and excellent work is done every time.

I had very particular requirements for these ramps, they needed to have sides on them to prevent my dog from stumbling off the ramp, due to her vision and balance issues. Most ready-made dog ramps do not have sides, and would allow my visually impaired dog to fall off. Dave came out and measured, and we discussed the best way to make the ramps, attaching them to the deck and stairs as temporary, since I do not own the home. We discussed how high the sides should be to prevent the dog from falling off (shoulder height) and Dave pointed out ways to make the ramp very stable and sturdy so it would not wobble and startle the dog. I was pleased with the ramps when they were completed a few days later, I began training the dog and using the ramps but realized that the ramp needed to be more narrow, and the sides a little higher to steady the dog as she went down, and keep her from wobbling. Dave quickly came out and made the necessary adjustments! The resulting ramp is working even better. I am VERY pleased with the quality of his work, the ramps are very sturdy, and the dog feels confident in going up and down them. We will be calling Dave for other projects soon. He was prompt, did a great job, and cleaned up afterward. We are very pleased with the final product.
Description of Work: I called Dave's Carpentry to build two ramps for my elderly dog, to allow her to get from the house to the yard without having to negotiate stairs, which she is no longer able to do due to vision and balance issues.

I called and left a message for Dave. He called me back within a few hours of my call. He scheduled a site visit to review what work was needed. He arrived on time, made a quick assessment of the work, and provided a quote. The work was scheduled for the following Monday. A 50% down payment was required to schedule the job. Dave called to confirm that the job was scheduled for Monday at 9:00 AM on the Friday before the work was to start. Monday morning the carpenter arrived on time and completed the work while I went about my morning. The job was completed by noon, and looked as good as I had hoped. It was probably the best experience I've ever had with a company working on my home. I will use Dave's Carpentry again.
Description of Work: My back door had suffered water damage around the kick board and the two largest beams which made up the major portion of the bay door. The water damage had resulted in rotted wood and presented an unsightly appearance. I hired Dave's Carpentry to make the needed repairs.

Wow! Very professional and courteous service. Dave responded to my phone call immediately even though it was not going to be a big job. Craig came out to do the work providing excellent carpentry skills. He fixed a pocket door plus removed and reconfigured a kitchen cabinet in order to open up space over the kitchen island. Most important...my wife was very happy with the results!

For the closet job, Dave leveled and improved the fitting of my bi-fold closet doors and he expertly installed fascia and trim to hide as much of the door hardware as possible and surround the closet. He scheduled and estimated the work clearly and promptly, he arrived on time and worked quickly but with an eye towards quality and detail, and I am very satisfied with the work he performed! For the custom piece, Dave took a damaged piece of plywood with a curvy shape and a "lip" underneath to keep it in place as a cabin step, and he duplicated it with a new piece of marine plywood that I purchased. He did a GREAT job, and the piece fits and is solid! Overall, I found Dave to be very responsive and professional, and his work is excellent! I would not hesitate to call on him for any and all carpentry needs I have in the future!

We were looking for a wood worker/ reputable carpenter and found Dave's here on Angie's list. I called for an estimate, and Dave the owner promptly came out to estimate a portion of my entrance door that needed some wood replaced, and a new storm door we needed installed. He was very informative and you could tell he was honest and very personable. He gave me hope for repairing the door frame instead of replacement, I was sold!He set up a time to come out depending on weather, since most of the work was outside. The day he came it was on/ off showers, Dave showed up right on time and smiled right along as he went about his work, he was very respectful of our house. The door was quite the mess, but he restored the bad pieces of wood on the threshold and door jam with cedar wood to insure it would last, and then installed the Larson storm door we had bought at Lowes. The project turned out fabulous! I will call Dave back for future projects, and recommend to my friends and co-workers.Dave has faith, and honesty something I wish every contractor could have. My Husband and I are truly blessed to have found Dave's Carpentry.,

Dave was very responsive and easy to work with. He did a good job of interpreting how I wanted the railing to look. He also addressed problems we had with the original railing. He and his crew did the work very quickly and were clean. The price was on the high end for what I was expecting, however, overall it seemed like a good price for the work that was done. The only concern I had was the strength of the railing as one side seemed a bit flimsy. Dave said that couldn't be avoided based on the design I had given him which I beleive to be the case.
Description of Work: Overall Dave's Carpentry did a nice job on our second story exterior deck railing. He and his crew tore down the old railing and disposed of it. He build a new "L" shaped railing of wood railing/slats and composite posts.

Be there in person for the estimate. Show the person exactly what you want. Don't lose your cool (which was my husband's inclination). I had a home re-modeler that I had used last year also look at the job. He was plenty busy without this small job and preferred to have someone else do it. He did give me an idea of a fair price range. Dave's Carpentry hit the mark of $ 300 to $ 4 00 with the Angie's List discount. In the end the we are pleased with the quality. I was especially impressed by the cedar pieces he cut and milled at home. He chose to use cedar and explained it would be more weather resistant than the original type of wood.
Description of Work: The base below my front door and the lintels on each side had bare, starting to rot wood. It needed replacement before we could paint the entire doorway . I initially e-mailed Dave's Carpentry and at some point we spoke on the phone. My mistake was to suggest he look at the job whenever it was convenient, whether I was at work or not. If I had it to do over again I would have shown him exactly what I wanted. HOWEVER,bare rotting wood is pretty easy to spot. He assumed I just wanted the kick plate replaced and gave an estimate of $150 which is his minimum charge. He sent an employee with a piece of wood, about 4" less than actual length. The board got nailed over the existing kick plate and then was painted white to look more uniform. I phoned Dave. He was apologetic regarding miscommunication. He came out that evening and identified he would need to custom mill the 2 lintel bases. He said he could make it himself, install it, and still only charge the initial $150. He did an excellent and quick job. Unfortunately, after he left I phoned him to come back again and showed him two rectangular pieces he had missed. It was pretty straightforward to me that anything wood, that abutted concrete, was bare of paint and soft to touch needed replacement. This next appointment was a week later, with another person. If I hadn't checked he would have left the minimally soft piece to "just be painted." He went ahead and did as I asked. The old wood got drilled out and a new piece fitted in. His work seemed the most labor intensive and he was very pleasant .Funny enough he left behind a triangular shaped ruler. I contacted Dave and someone was to have picked it up. At this writing it's been on the porch about a week.

Dave is a perfectionist and his work speaks for itself. Our bookcases totally changed the look of our den. New guests to our house are immediately drawn to the bookcases. They are also in total awe of the 17 ft cedar mantle. I am not kidding...our mantle is HUGE!
Description of Work: I saw Dave's business sign at a neighbors house and decided to call for an estimate. I researched him on Angie's List first and felt comfortable calling him for an estimate for two floor to ceiling bookcases and a 17 ft (yes) cedar mantle. He was able to complete the entire job within a few weeks. His carpentry work is truly a work of art. We LOVE are new bookcases.

I was not satisfied with the work done and I believe the problem all comes down to poor communication, missed expectations and passed blame. I had initial contact with Dave via the phone in which we requested a bid on a large set of projects we had planned for a home we recently purchased. I sent him the list of projects to be completed ahead of the meet with request that the bid be made with as much detail as possible. My wife met with him in person to discuss the work on location. She had a good impression of him after the meeting. He called me back to give me his pricing via the phone and this is where the poor communication started. He gave me a price of $150 for the ceiling repair and $35 per hour for his drywall person to do the other work (these are my notes from the phone conversation, as he did not submit anything in writing or with any detail). I asked for an estimate on the number of hours to help me ball-park the overall cost but he skirted around the question without ever giving a number. We hired him as we liked the idea of a drywall expert helping us out and another drywall person we called was not able to get the project started when we needed. Work was scheduled for April 27, 2011, a check was left on the counter and he was given a code to access the home. That night I reviewed the work and I was immediately disappointed. Our goal was a complete repair of the issue (water damage to the ceiling) and what I found was an incomplete patch. There was a very noticeable large water damage mark on the ceiling, which he repaired, but other smaller drip marks indicating water damaged drywall above were untouched. I immediately called him to inquire why this area was not fixed and he indicated that was not was his bid included (he never told us details on what he planned) and his recommendation was to paint over the water damage spots (all information I have gathered indicates that the damage would simply show through again unless treated with an oil based primer) or have the drywall person put new mud over that area. Additionally, although the patch was completed and my check for $150 now in his hands, the ceiling was in no way complete. Apparently he actually meant that the ceiling would cost $150 PLUS $35 per hour for the mud work and finishing. I cut my losses and waited to speak with the drywall person. I covered all of the areas that we wanted him (the drywaller) to work on and walked him through the house. He was working on multiple projects and in the end, the drywall work took significantly longer than I expected (going off my own estimation, as Dave would not provide one). In the end, I ended up paying the painter to finish the drywall work in order for them to start the painting. Most areas that the drywall person worked on were very good and it's just the timing that was non idea, except for... The ceiling repair - which we expected to cost $150 but ultimately likely cost double that number - was not even when looking at the ceiling line (where the wall and ceiling meet). I was not sure what to expect for a ceiling repair and did not bring it up to Dave but later was told by another person in construction that they would make the person re-do the work if they were verifying the punch list. I'm not sure that Dave ever inspected the work of his drywall finisher to be up to his expectations but later when I called him about the issue, he declared that it was not his work (the patch) that caused the dip in the ceiling line and that I should talk to the drywall guy instead. So, in the end, Dave and I have issues working with each other that just compounded on top of one another. Poor communication, missed expectations and passed blame. (edited for clarity and added paragraph breaks)
Description of Work: Requested bid on a long list of improvements to a home we recently purchased including drywall, painting, interior and exterior carpentry. Selected him to do first portion of project - repair ceiling with water damage, repair holes in drywall and prep walls for painting (drywall prep was via his 'drywall guy').

Response from Dave's Carpentry
This client would have never got this much work done with any other company. I met with his wife, to go over a much bigger list, the drywall work was almost a free-be. Once he had me break down my bid, only decided to do the small drywall work. I agreed to cut out the bad area..Which I did. He agreed to my price on the drywall finish, and is complaining that it took more time..Well he added more drywall work throughout the house! He called me, I finally met him, 4 days after the job was finished, he paid me in full, never once saying anything was wrong. Waited till I got 15 mins. from his house to complain about something so small, but I sent my drywall man back out. I suggest other contractors stay away from this client.

They were prompt and respectful and completed the work efficiently. They attempted to keep the dust down by enclosing the area in which they were working, although they could have used a thicker plastic to accomplish this more effectively. But they were thorough and friendly and responsive to our requests. We were pleased with their work.

Dave is very professional and sincere. We needed the wood trim around the door replaced and we are not handy - additionally it was super cold. I had called a few places but no one could really commit to coming out and assessing the problem, giving me a quote and be able to do the work before the door was installed - which we really needed to have it done b/f the door was installed. Dave was able to accomodate us. I feel the price was a fair value (I called one place and they were going to just aluminum cap over the problem for 225 but they never commited to coming out and do the job). We discussed saving the good wood and just replacing the parts that needed to be. They were able to make it out the Friday before the door was installed & it looks great. I give them extra credit because it was so cold at the time to so i really appreciate them being able to accomodate us. 275 probably isn't alot compared to most jobs that people see & we felt like no one was calling us back b/c it was a smaller type job but I am grateful that they did the work and that it looks so good.

Found Dave's Carpentry on Angies List. Many companies I called did not want to do these small jobs. Dave was very nice and didn't mind doing the little jobs as he said they were his speciality. We worked out a date on both our schedules and he arrived on time and got right busy doing the work. Dave was very neat and cleaned up very nicely after the jobs was done.
Description of Work: We needed some wood trim added below our new kitchen countertop. We provided the trim and he installed it. Looks professional and adds beauty to the kitchen.
