When I contacted the same local authorized service agent I used before I was advised that they could order the part, call us when it was in, and then we could drop the computer off for service and pick it up the same day. I spoke with the manager at CompUSA to see if we could work something out with the local authorized service center and was told there was nothing he could do. We were completely mislead by CompUSA and their business sales staff. 3 weeks of being without a computer will cost us 3 times the amount we paid for the warranty. Dealing with small businesses everyday the business sales staff should be aware of how crucial computers are to a small business. The cost to fix this problem is less than the amount paid for the warranty (parts and labor).
Description of Work: My husband and I purchased a laptop computer with extended warranty in 2/05. We were told when we purchased the warranty that they had in-store service centers that would perform the warranty work. This computer is used daily for our small business, so having local service was the most important feature of the warranty. We had a hard drive problem 7-8 months later and when we took it in we were told they would have to send it off to the manufacturer and that it could take 3-4 weeks to fix. After going to the manufacturer's web site I found an authorized local service center. I asked CompUSA if they could just use this center but they were not willing to work with them. So I made all the arrangements for the work to be done. It took less than a week. Well we now have a problem with the computer screen. When I took it in for service I was told they had to send it away to their service center in Texas and it would take approximately 14 business days.

My old laptop crashed. I decided to purchase a new one. They had a wide selection of laptops with some good rebates available. Compared their prices to other stores and they were either comparable or slightly better than other companies. The sales reps are knowledgeable. They just need to speak in plain English rather than dazzle you with their technical knowledge. Otherwise, they were easy going and had a geniune desire to be of assistance. After getting the laptop home and working on setting it up, I realized there were a couple parts missing from the media tuner. I took it back to CompUSA to explain the problem. I have to say that I was initially made to feel my integrity was in question. However, once I talked with the manager and convinced them of the missing parts, they took pieces from another laptop and gave them to me. Note - be sure to check things out within the first 20 days to be covered by their return policy!
Description of Work: I acquired a new HP laptop.
