Mark was great to work with. He is prompt, thorough, detail-oriented and kept the worksite clean and organized. I felt very comfortable trusting him with my project and with the keys to my house. The estimate was higher than what my insurance paid but lower than another estimate I received. I felt like I got the good quality I paid for. I would certainly ask Mark to tackle any future project I might have and would highly recommend his services to others.
Description of Work: Repaired drywall/framing, created trim and painted walls following flooding in my basement. Completed several other small tasks including building a custom door and frame for a utility closet.

I choose Circa Renovations Ltd. since this is a local company right in my community. I believe small owner operated businesses can relate to their customers on a personal level and provide the best service. Circa Renovations Ltd absolutely delivers. Mark and Phil could not have been more professional and nicer to deal with. Trust is important when contractors have a key with total access to your home. This company is top notch. Mark had many, many challenges with this job. He handled everything brilliantly. He is a craftsman and takes absolute pride in his work. He also offered some very creative suggestions along the way, which I would not have considered, but at the same time he listened to what I asked, and wanted done. As a result, my kitchen was transformed from a gloomy place to a very bright, cheerful, wonderful, perfect space that is totally unique! Mark also very kindly assisted with other smaller projects that needed attention in the house. I'm looking forward to my next renovation project with Circa Renovations Ltd. in 2014.
Description of Work: The kitchen was totally renovated. This kitchen hadn't been remodeled in at least 40 years. There was a drop ceiling that had to be removed. The actual ceiling underneath also had tiles glued to it. It all had to be torn out. Once opened up, there was water damage, plumbing that needed repaired, support beams needing reinforced, electrical issues, and much more. Mark pointed out everything that was a concern, and provided professional advice as to how to resolve. He also noticed there was no insulation in the walls and indicated that could be easily done. His dry wall associate Phil, was also very professional and the walls and ceiling were absolutely perfect! The remodel incorporated different elements such as Ikea under cabinets, custom upper cabinets with glass doors, a free standing buffet, open shelving and stone backsplash. Mark was very open to all my unconventional ideas. There was nothing he couldn't do!

Superior work! Mark came to provide an estimate for work. He contacted us very soon after we emailed him through Angie's list. He came over very soon afterward and took his time to ask a lot of questions so he knew exactly what we wanted. His estimate was a bit more than we expected, but it was very well worth it. He keeps his appointments and calls if anything changes with his schedule. He informed us along the way of the progress and any pitfalls that he ran into. He also has a great eye for design...He installed a Vykrel shower, new toilet, sink, tile floor, drywall, towel rings, and also painted. The work is superior; he uses quality materials, which is why his estimates are a bit more than one may expect. But in the long-term, he uses the best products that will last. Mark is also very approachable, easy to talk to and is open to changes that happen along the way. He is pleasant and cleans up after each day's work.... We highly recommend him. We loved his work so much, we called him back to redo a second bathroom! And we were not disappointed. He helped us along to way, providing contacts where he purchases tile and other supplies (which gave us discounts). This second job included building a tiled shower with a glass enclosure and it is BEAUTIFUL! We HIGHLY recommend Mark Paxton. And we will call him for future jobs, too.
Description of Work: Mark was hired to remove a concrete floor, repour the floor and install a bathroom in our basement.

Mark is the utmost professional. I'm a stickler for people showing up on time, sticking to the plan, and doing exceptional work. Mark is one of the few providers I work with who consistently exceed my expectations (which is not an easy task). Our first project was to finish the basement at my condo. I had had the condo on the market for three years and couldn't sell it. I got a few bids for finishing the basement from some "reputable" vendors who quoted me between $15,000-$20,000 for the job. When I called Mark, he come over and spent a significant amount of time going thorough the options with me and quoted me a range between $5,000-$8,000. He pointed out where we could save and where he thought I shouldn't skimp on the investment. He provided me with a detailed proposal outlining every step of the process and what I could expect to see and by when. We had a two-week time frame and he got started right away. In exactly two weeks, I had a finished basement that looked amazing and was exceptionally well constructed. He and his team even cleaned the outside of my basement windows and vacuumed every room and area they had touched while doing the construction. My condo sold in 3 days because of the basement! A year later I hired Mark again to finish my basement at my new house. The experience was exactly what I expected and my basement looks gorgeous. I continue to work with Mark because, he: Delivers an exceptional end-product Is punctual and professional, always shows up when he says he will and if he has a change in plans, he let's me know Is extremely trust worthy. I have no hesitation leaving him at my house Has a great network of other high-quality providers such as electricians, plumbers, etc. and I trust his judgement Offers me options to choose from to fit my budget and goals Has great taste and I leave many decisions up to him for selecting finishes and details for our projects There is truly no one else I'd like to work with for any of my home projects.

Overall, Mark's work, as I said, is superior. When we looked at our finished bathroom, there was absolutely nothing that was left undone. I definitely recommend him (and his plumber, whom he uses exclusively). He had to dig-up the floor (basement concrete) in order to fix what the previous plumber messed-up on. The floor had been poured unevenly; and he had to re-center the shower drain, and level the floor. After the inspection, he worked solidly on the project. He had mentioned during the estimate that he does not usually have a lot of jobs going at once...that he likes to stay focused on one job at a time. And he is true to his word. Of course he had to get other projects going and finish-up older ones while working with us, but dedicated all his time to our project for the majority of time. Mark is easy to talk to about any adjustments that were needed. He offered to lay the floor tile differently than I had planned, and it was an excellent idea! He has a good eye for style and design; and he didn't try to talk us into anything...he just makes really great suggestions. I definitely recommend Mark to take care of your projects. He is respectful of your home and space, your time and money.
Description of Work: Mark Paxton is the most professional person I have worked with in a long, long time. He called back quickly, provided an estimate within a couple of days, and was easy to talk with and modify original plans. He is punctual, cleans-up after each day of work, lays down plastic in his paths for foot traffic and does what he says he will do. The quality of his work is superior to any I have experienced in Columbus. He remodeled a 3 piece bathroom for us. He provided detailed specifications on the shower, toilet and sink that he purchased at a discount and delivered for us (we paid for the fixtures but we didn't even have to shop...what he picked out was perfect) .

I opted to not go with it because the original cost was $6,000 and by the time we went through everything he was packing on extra fees, so I didn't feel I could afford it at the time. He seemed like a nice guy and was very amicable about turning him down when I got the estimate. I thought it was an offer from Angie's List for $6,000, but they wanted us to go out and buy the materials and give us a stipend for it. I felt like I'm buying it retail, but he should have been able to get it wholesale. I didn't feel like the deal was what I thought it was going to be. His demeanor was nice and he was very professional when he came to the house, but it was just the financial part that was a problem for me. He did things through emails and was pretty quick responding back. The only reason I contacted him was because of the special offer, but there are other people we have used for things and know what their outcome is, so I probably would go with them.

In all honesty, the entire job from start to finish could not have gone smoother. From the start Mark was responsive when we first reached out, patient when we took forever to make decisions and always arrived for either a meeting or work when he said he would. He called if he was running late or had to reschedule, he called to check on how we liked how the project was going when we didn't see him in person. He was direct and helpful with suggestions for how we approach certain situations. He offered suggestions for companies to consider for tile, cabinets, etc, but never pushy. He made it clear he'd work with whatever we wanted and within our budget. Beyond just being kind, considerate, thoughtful and punctual - he was remarkably clean with his work space. Every day we'd come home to significant progress on the project but his job site would be neatly packed for the night. He brought an assistant for a portion of the work who was also as pleasant and helpful. The work itself appears perfect. I've gone over the details of the job and have yet to find an imperfection - every seam, grout line, tile placement looks perfect. We had hold ups and delays like any project of this size, but Mark kept us in the loop on every action he took or when things could progress again. The delays were never his but rather hold ups with a particular supplier. When one piece arrived from a manufacturer damaged he consulted us and offered suggestions for options on how we might want to handle. Truly, our experience could not have been better and I would and will hire him without thinking twice for the next project.
Description of Work: Complete remodel of bathroom. Replaced drywall, tub, fixtures, vanity and lighting. Added new tub, tile around shower, hardware, cabinet, flooring, new trim moulding, removed existing door, widened and installed new door and finishing trim. New light fixtures over shower and vanity and replaced wall switches from 2 to 4 switches to handle new lighting fixtures.

The experience was overall fantastic. Mark is very professional, punctual and thorough. I was impressed with the methods he used to keep the rest of the bedroom and downstairs free from debris with protective films and paper. He provides detailed estimates and any unforseen changes (for instance, he had to move some pipes that were concealed in a dividing wall) were addressed immediately. I plan on having him do all my future interior projects.
Description of Work: Mark completely gutted, expanded and refinished my bathroom. It involved ceiling high tile in the shower, a tile floor, removing and expanding one wall of the bathroom and relocating some in wall pipes. Later, he installed two basement walls and some closet doors.

Mark redid our upstairs bathroom, which was in pretty pathetic shape. Now it's beautiful and it feels like a brand new space. Mark was outstanding throughout the entire process. He's a true professional, and his work was always of the highest quality. I've already recommended Circa to friends, and we are planning to ask Mark to do work for us in the future. Mark was also extremely pleasant and easy-going.

Response from Circa Renovations Ltd
Dear member, I apologize if I left you with the impression that I would not do the work. You informed me that you had purchased the door from a big box store that offers installation services and had chosen not to have them install it because it cost too much. For door installations, I have a set flat rate and I shared those numbers with you. I try to charge a fair price for what I believe to be superior service. I would have been more than happy to complete the job if you had found my numbers to be good value for you, but it appears they were not. Regards, Mark

We could not be happier with how our project turned out and how well it went. Mark is professional, easy to work with, hard-working, clean, and efficient. During the preparation of the remodel, he provided us with technical advice and used his experience to aid our decisions in design and material purchases. He even made a trip to the house before the project began to help us explore some design ideas. Throughout the remodel, he was flexible and communicative, making the whole process easier. The work itself is beautiful. Just perfect!
Description of Work: Circa Renovations was hired to remodel a small bathroom. The remodel included demo of the shower and floor to the studs, replacing the shower pan, adding proper moisture protective backer board, tiling the shower from floor to ceiling, with decorative accent tile, installing a heated floor and tiling the floor, replacing the bathroom door, painting, uninstalling and reinstalling fixtures, repairing the ceiling, and replacing the ceiling fan.

We hired Mark to do our only, very tiny bathroom, we replaced everything. He worked with a plumber and electrician which did great work also. We were very grateful that we found someone that would do a small job like ours. When he was quoting the job he didn't try to make the job easier for himself or try to make the job more expensive. It seemed he understood what we wanted and pretty much stuck to it. There was some up charges but for things we or he could not see before hand. Quality, craftsmanship and professionalism were excellent. It was a great experience working with him and we hope to have our kitchen remodeled by him in the near future. He did get permits but just for the electrical and plumbing, the overall remodeling didn't require a permit which Mark adjusted the up charge for this. Mark was very good about explaining before hand what the up charges or decrease costs were for.
Description of Work: Total renovation of the bathroom, new recess lighting, reworking of the drain pipes, new ceiling fan, ripped out the old dry wall and plastic bath surround, remover cast iron tub, toilet, sink. We had a new toilet, tub, sink, tile surround for the shower, and tile flooring, new paint, trim and reworking of the ac/heater vent.

From the first phone call to Mark's final clean-up, this was an excellent experience that resulted in a bathroom that's even more beautiful than I imagined. When I first talked to Mark, I told him that I wanted my small, 5' x 8' bathroom to be a spa-like 5' x 8' bathroom. That's what I ended up with and couldn't be happier. He arrived at our house within a day of my first call and provided some ideas of what he could do and a few options for selecting tile and fixtures. His estimate came a few days later and he was able to start the work a few days after that while waiting for a tile delivery on another job. Mark was always on time, worked around our schedule, and cleaned up every day so it never really felt like we were in the middle of a renovation, except that we had one less bathroom for a couple weeks. The demolition took one day and he had an assistant that helped with that part, the rest Mark did himself. The tilework is gorgeous and it's clear that he's quite a perfectionist. He suggested the placement of the glass tile inlay with it wrapping into one of the niches and that ended up being my favorite design feature. It's amazing how much bigger this bathroom feels without the soffit but you'd never know there was one. The ceiling is totally smooth with no evidence of a soffit having been there. He even custom-made a laundry chute cover matching the hardware to the hardware in the vanity and cabinet. Mark obviously gave a lot of attention to the walls which resulted in a beautifully smooth surface for the paint. He edged the tile with grout which made a nice transition from tile to wall. We've already shown him our other equally-small bathroom and discussed some significant changes we'd like to have made to it. We definitely look forward to having Mark back in a few months for that remodel as well. Then, who knows? Maybe the kitchen next year . . . When you find a contractor who does this kind of work, it's like hitting the remodeling lottery!
Description of Work: Mark totally gutted my 50 year old, 5' x 8' bathroom removing the cast iron tub, vanity, toilet, all fixtures, tile on the walls, and the old drywall. He installed a new plywood base and waterproof membrane under the new tub, cement board on the walls around the tub, ceramic tile on the walls around the tub along with decorative glass tile accents and two niches for shampoo and soap, removed the soffit over the tub, installed ceramic tile on the floor, light fixtures, dual flush toilet, vanity with granite top, faucet and shower head (raised about 16" from where it was), mirror, towel racks, wood trim, and custom-made a laundry chute door.

I could not be happier with my experience. Mark was professional and meticulous about making sure everything was done right and the way I wanted it. His estimate of the job was fairly priced and there were no surprises when the final invoice came. He was always on time. The house was always cleaned up perfectly at the end of the day and you would not have known a major renovation was taking place. My bathroom looks absolutely beautiful and I would highly recommend Circa Renovations to anyone.

We've gotten quotes for the ceiling drywall on our second floor and the ceiling in the studio. Once we agreed on the time when work can begin Circa came in and did a great job. He took photos and paint samples to match everything exact. Such great attention to detail.
Description of Work: We are continually pleased with Circa's work. We requested a quote for some dry wall work in our studios and upper floor ceilings. Very reasonable. Circa was very flexible with our work hours and came in after hours to do the work. We are continually impressed with his work and professionalism. We will continue working with him :)

I hired Mark to complete a job which had been unsatisfactorily started by another handyman. Mark stepped into the breach with a very high degree of professionalism and competence. He took my cabinet doors to his house to be prepped and painted, and painted the cabinet frames here at my house. The project took about a week to complete. The end result looks like a new kitchen - a few friends have asked if I replaced my cabinets with new ones. Every day, Mark left my kitchen neat and tidy. His work was of extremely high quality. I would not hesitate to hire him again; he's professional, pleasant, and knows what he's doing.

Mark was very willing to come in and take a look the same day we called to give us an estimate. He gave us one on the spot and made plans to be here early Monday morning to accommodate our tight schedule. He got it done with no problems and we were very happy with the out come. So much so, we hired him again to build something custom to hang out blankets. When he came back to do that the next week, he heard that the blankets puckered off the back studio door above the stairwell and he spent the time to perfect it and did not charge us for it. What an example of professionalism! WE will definitely hire him again!

Once the estimate was approved, he came in early Monday morning and assembled and showed us how it can function and we were very pleased! We'll hire him again to build more as we see what other uses we will have for these blankets. He did a great job and was very professional and easy to work with and have around. Thank you Mark from MediaSource!

Thank you for your understanding and willingness to give us a second chance. I missed our first scheduled appointment due to our scheduling software deleting the customers contact information and the scheduled appointment date. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and we understand how frustrating it is to have a 'no show'. We have since replaced our scheduling system and we will try to ensure that this does not happen again in the future. Again, thank your for your graciousness in this matter. We look forward to doing work for you. Regards, Mark Paxton

Once again, we were very pleased with the work. Since we'd had work done in the past by Mark Paxton, owner of Circa, and had been very well satisfied, we called him to look at a wide crack in the living room ceiling. He came when he said that he would, examined the crack, and told us the cost and timeline which would apply, if we chose for him to repair it. We decided to have Mark do the work. I didn't have other estimates this time, but his estimate seemed reasonable, and I like to have people who have done good work for us in the past. Mark came for the first work time, at the time we had set. He had explained that the best way to do the work was to come a few separate times, and allow the patching material to dry and season a day or two between visits. On the first visit, he removed the broken pieces within the opening in the ceiling, scraped until the surface was appropriate for applying patching material, and put some in. We had agreed that the space did not need to be cleaned up until the job was finished. That would take him less time and save cost to us. He told us when he would be back. The successive visits went about the same way. I didn't watch closely, because I had confidence in his work and had other things to do. Mark would sand the place (clear across the ceiling) which had hardened repair material, on and near the surface, and then re-apply to fill little gaps. On the last visit, Mark sanded and smoothed the repaired place, to the extent that it was difficult to find, even before it was painted. The ceiling looks as if it had never been open.
Description of Work: A large crack in the living room ceiling was repaired, including taking out debris, patching and filling the void, and smoothing the place, so that the repair will not show.

Returned call promptly, made appointment to come see the area. Arrived as scheduled, sent estimate same day. Scheduled the work for two days a week later. Arrived on time every day, was very clean and left the kitchen usable each night. Price was exactly as quoted. I am very happy with the finished project, will call again for future home projects.
Description of Work: Remove drop ceiling in kitchen - involved removing fluorescent plastic film and structure, remove fluorescent ballasts and move electric outlet, drywall, finish, paint and install new light fixture.

I purchased wood replacement windows from Pella and I was looking for a contractor to help me install them. I have some handyman experience myself, but this seemed a little out of my league. Circa had come recommended to me by a friend and I called Mark once my windows arrived. Mark was able to help me assess what the best way forward would be. He gave me an estimate for the work I was asking him to do, which was more or less to lead the project of installing windows while I helped provide an extra set of hands. We got started on the work the following week. Our first window took a little longer than expected because we ran into a problem that we did not foresee. Mark was very helpful in troubleshooting and adjusting our window installation strategy from the very beginning. Mark was very careful to protect the interior trim while doing some heavy chiseling and sawing to get out some pieces of wood that were required to be removed in order to get the new windows to fit. Over the course of two and half days, Mark was very timely and professional. He seemed to have all the right tools for whatever problem arose. Mark was very careful to make sure that each window was exactly level and plumb before he secured the new windows to the frame. Mark was a pleasure to work with. For someone who generally tackles all home renovation projects myself, I really enjoyed having Mark around and learned a great deal from him. Once all the windows were installed Mark took extra measures to make sure the interior trim matched up very nicely with the new windows. This included patching nail holes that had been in the trim for probably 20 or 30 years. I will certainly call Circa Renovations again. I have some projects this summer and fall that I will certainly call Mark about.
Description of Work: Instalation of wood replacement windows including insulation, interior trim adjustments and finishing.
