I went through all the trauma that the other "F" reviewers did six to eight years ago with the no shows, poor quality of work, lack of respect for my home, games with money and zero professionalism. BEWARE Charley baits people in with initial good work and an occasional quality helper... Anyway, when Charley put down the tile in my bathroom, he never secured the toilet to floor.(THERE ARE NO HOLES TO SECURE THE TOILET OR EVEN A FLANGE) This is going to be at least $1,000 to fix between the flange, floor damage from leak, etc. ONLY THE WAX RING WAS HOLDING MY TOILET IN PLACE...No one can figure out why the toilet didn't fall over...

handyman service, hardwood floor

I called to get an estimate on installing hardwood floors. The first visit went well, the floor was ordered by Charley and the supplies were all ordered by Charley. My husband and I spent 2 weeks shopping for molding, rosin paper, tape, flooring etc so I knew what the cost of materials would cost me and we agreed to let Charley buy them because we weren't saving anything but if he could make a little on it by getting his discount that was fine. The first day (11-7-17) he came to tear up the old floor to lay subfloor I knew we were in trouble. He and the other partner were so rough--chipped paint from the walls, tore off baseboards leaving holes in the walls, removed my stove and dishwasher, dented the cover of the dishwasher, pulled the side panel off the stove, pulled the stove oven door off etc etc. Cant begin to tell you how sloppy this man is and how unprofessional. The helper pryed our oven door back on and fixed the side panel. Thank god it sits between the wall and dishwasher so you don't see the damage. Also made marks on our french doors, and some other closet and room doors. He has caused us a lot of touch up work. Worst part is after I decided I better get rid of this character I was reading on Angies list all the reviews and was sitting here thinking that EVERY REVIEW written was absolutely true because every review there was something he did that happened to us--not coming on time, doesn't have tools and has to go back and get them or even worse-he doesn't have alot of the tools you would expect from a person who supposedly does hardwood. Thank god I got on here to read the reviews in time because NO WAY were we having him back to install the floor. We hired someone else and the other contractor had to go back and fix the mistakes this character did. I've called him 4 times to refund my money for molding that he never provided and a reducer strip he never provided but he nor his wife have responded. I have spoke with a lawyer. I found out he has moved around and been in bankrupcy and to just stay away from him. So he has received money for materials and work he has never provided. He will ask for material money upfront and more than half the money on his first day then if he screws things up he has his money because you already paid him the majority of money so the little bit you owe him when the job is completed is nothing compared to what you already gave him. I learned a few things from my lawyer. Dont take someone else word just because they like him, second always check the BBB, check federal trade commission, check the Secretary of State website for the state you live in, check for any complaints and revocation against them. Can't stress enough not to hire this man for any jobs, please read all reviews because I know what others have written we have experienced. He even unhooked our hot water when he took out the dishwasher , pulled our stove out and unplugged it and left us hang 3 days without any return calls. I am disabled and my husband had to ask a neighbor to help him move the stove back far enough to plug it in so I could cook meals. This isn't even half of what this character did . He has caused us so much work, alot of our time repairing and touching up and filling in holes etc. Don't believe me just go to the BBB and see he has been revoked. Like one mans review said Charley puts the "CON" in contractor--very well said!!! Also the wood was not what we had expected but the company he ordered it from did compensate us so we could get enough decent hardwood to lay the floor. By the way--the floor turned out nice and the company I had was so patient and took his time, very meticulous work, I am happy now but the happiest moment was pushing Charley out the front door, never to return!! I feel sorry for the ones who lost large amounts of money, one day Karma will catch up to him!!!

No show many times, late when he DID show or showed up without prior warning. Never calls to tell you he will be late. Quality of work was so-so. Left a cracked tile in place, said he couldn't cut it thin enough??? What kind of professional doesn't have the right equipment? I had to come up with the solution. He forgot to bring outlets out and tiled over the openings. He never came back to fix this and I had to do it and it was hard since he didn't cut the tile right. I had to touch up grout in several spots. He also installed a tile that has a crack in it. Now it will be a major headache to remove and replace it. I finally had enough and called it quits with him. I'm getting some money back and will start over again to find someone to do the other work. Very disappointed in the lack of pride in the finished product and unprofessionalism exhibited. Strictly F's in all catagories.

Waited on the 28th until 3:15 and had no phone call. Called the number and wife answered the phone said she was waiting for my call. Said their was a mistake in the scheduling. Why did she not call me and inform me. Said he would be here on Thur (29th) waited all day and again no show or phone call. Left message for Charley to call. He did not call. Next morning attached to my back door was a check saying refund of deposit. Was not man enough to speak to me face to face. Had some work done last year and had a crack in the concrete came a put something on it and said he would come back and sand it. It still has not been completed. He is not very dependable. Would not recommend him to anyone.

Owner (Charley) was very attentive and somewhat professional on the first visit which was done with my husband He wrote everything down, said all would be no problem. We had a buyer for our son's house and we needed some remedies completed within 10 days. My husband was going out of town and would not be available for consult during this job. Charley was scheduled to arrive at 9:00am on Saturday, May 31. He called me at 8:45 as I'm on my way to the property to tell me that his helper just called and is not going to make it today so can we move it to Sunday, June 1. I had to completely rearrange my schedule to on Saturday so I could be available on Sunday. On Sunday, I arrived at the property at the designated time and received a call from Charley that they were running behind so had to wait on them to arrive 30 min after the start time. Approx. 5 hrs later, I received a call that they were finished and "I was going to be really happy". Well, that definitely was not the case. The work was beyond awful. They were supposed to fix some flashing under the windows, remove the old caulking and re-caulk. Honestly, it looked like a 2-year old did it. They did not remove the caulking and literally caulked over the old stuff. The concrete work was even worse. They were supposed to level a place in the front of the house and it looked like they poured a little concrete into the space and swirled it around with their hands. Also, it was halfway done, they didn't even do the entire slab, just half of it, what!? At least 3of the many things on our list were not even addressed. They completely ignored them. So, Charley said he would be back in the morning (Monday) to redo everything with his Supervisor, Matt, who is an electrician to do the work that had not been done the day before. I had to take off 2 hours of work since they couldn't be there before 9am. Matt, the electrician, was very professional and explained what he needed to do and sent me a note later in the day with what it was going to cost, etc. Charley was supposed to bring a gas meter back later in the day because one of the things not completed correctly were gas leaks. He said his meter was in his other truck and would return later that day with the meter and at the same time, was going to redo the work he and another helper did on Sunday. He called me that afternoon at 3:30pm to tell me that his truck broke down and would be there Tuesday. As of Tuesday at 5pm, I had not heard one word from Charley. I called him to ask why I had not heard anything, where was the gas meter and when was he going to redo the stuff he did on Sunday. We had until Saturday or we needed to file an extension with the Buyer. Charley told me he would clear his schedule as well as Matt's for Thursday and would meet me at the house at 8:30am. Again, the gas meter was never mentioned. In the meantime, our Buyer who was very excited about the house. took a friend over to see it. When she viewed the awful work (concrete, windows) that was done, she terminated the contract. We lost our buyer due to the shabby work of this guy. Not only that buyer, but another one that coming Friday (see below). So, I took another morning off work Thursday and arrived at 8:30am only to get a call from another worker saying they would not be there before 9am. When they arrived it was Matt (the electrician) and another helper, Charley did not show. Fine with me because Matt is the only reason this Charley guy is still in business. Matt and his helper did a great job of redoing the work on the windows & concrete as well as completing the electrical work that Matt had assessed on Monday. Once they were finished, Matt called to tell me they were done and I told him to have Charley call me and I would meet him for payment once I inspected the work. Within 30 min I received a call from Charley. I was in meetings that afternoon so did not respond immediately. He left a voicemail saying he wanted to meet up because the job was done and he wanted paid. When I did not respond to the first call, he called again 25 min. later demanding that I call him because he had done extra work on this job that he didn't expect and when a job is finished, he needs paid. I was beside myself!! If he had done the work right the first time, he would have been paid immediately! I also missed four hours work messing with this guy, did he pay me for my time, heck no! I agreed to meet Charley at the house that evening (Thursday), checked the work that Matt had completed and asked for several things to be taken off the bill that he did not address or complete. We agreed on an amount and I paid him. Regarding our second buyer lost, when Charley put in a new sump pump on that preceding Sunday, they left water on the floor while testing it. I asked Charley about it and he said he would take care of cleaning up the puddle of water. I never went back to the basement that week. On Thursday evening, we had another showing on the house. They loved it. however. were concerned about the water in the basement. Charley had NEVER cleaned up the puddle of water so the potential buyer decided not to pursue. I cannot say this strongly enough, do not hire this guy, you will definitelly regret it.

When somebody does something well, I think they should be promoted. Charley's Handyman Services LLC was here yesterday to work on a skylight leak. We have had several roofers and repair guys attempt to fix the leak to no avail, but Charley and his associate Bruce actually figured out what was wrong. It took a while to coordinate Charley?s schedule with decent weather for roofing work, but the two of them were here as soon as the weather broke. They did great work, charged a very fair price, kept a clean and safe work site, and were very polite and courteous. I highly recommend Charley?s Handyman to anyone needing work done around their home.

Called from advertisement in local paper. Previously had trouble with other contractors even coming out to give us an estimate. They were out within a week to give an estimate. My husband and I accepted their very reasonable estimate and the work was completed within a week. Charly and George are very meticulous with their work. They had subcontracted out painters and were not satisfied with their work, and made them come out that day to correct. They saw some things that needed done that were not in the estimate and did them, with NO CHARGE TO US.! We are currently planning and saving for them to replace some windows. When friends and family come over they are impressed and comment on how nice it is. My husband and I would not hesitate to remcommend them to our friends and family.

Charley was contracted to a very large termite job for a home in Grove City. The damage was found along the way, so the price kept getiting bigger and bigger. However, he started to just not show up after I'd give him a check. He never finished the job, he won't produce a receipt, he has NO idea how much I paid him. When I finally fired Charley, he was angry-but told me he would produce a "correct" receipt only if I didn't tell his wife. I don't want a part of his personal home life issues, so I stopped speaking to him. The floors he installed are all coming up and he REALLY screwed them up. I had to replace them all. I took him to small claims court for that and I got a successful judgment against him. Please keep in mind that Charlie is not a plumber-but he does plumbing work-without permits. Charlie is not an electrician-but he does electric work-without permits. He pulls permits on nothing. All of his work is now falling apart. Please, please, please do yourself a favor and find someone else to do the work for you. Charlie has NO idea what is going on. UPDATE 9/6/2013-as of today, none of the judgement I have won against this company has been paid to me. I Just want everyone to know what they are dealing with. I also spoke to another individual that this happened to. Update-8/11/14-As of today, still no payment on the judgement, but I am no longer attempting to collect. Also, I read the above reviews of this company and I feel SO BAD for anyone still calling Charlie. For the record, my business has grown since I left Charlie behind after he took so much money from me for awful work. I have purchased and flipped numerous homes and I currently own 10 rentals on the southwest side of town. Thankfully I now have a crew of 8 guys that work for me full time. Charlie could have been successful if he knew ANYTHING about what he was doing. Sadly, he does not.We uncover "shortcuts" that Charlie took every time I go into that property. I am not new to this business. Charlie ALMOST took me out of this business, but he was not successful. For that, I am thankful. As for the termites mentioned in "Charlie's" (his wife's) response, I was successful in getting my money back in that battle. Again, he attempted to take me out with that lawsuit because he was scared, but he did not succeed. Please read these reviews and understand what you are getting into if you decide to contract with Charlie.

Response from Charley's Handyman Service
(deleted member name) of Scolds Properties contracted with our company to remodel a property she had purchased. We did the remodel and during the process she acquired another property, in which she contracted us again for the work to be done. We were working both properties at the same time and at one point we found termite damage in one of the homes. She had said the gentleman who sold her the house had made her aware of the termites and instructed us to take care of the problem as we came across it. This termite damage was not extensive, it cost $4,500 to rid the home of the termites and damage. She states that she paid our company $24,700. That is untrue as we have recipts and labor documentation showing the cost was $22,500. $2,500 of which she never paid us. This total cost was the remodel for 2 homes. She started to worry about the total costs and was borrowing money from her father to cover checks written to us. She told us that she was planning to file suit against the seller of the "termite property" for not disclosing information about the termites and asked that we give her a "termite recipt" ranging anywhere from $14,000 - $18,000 in order for her to recoop money spent on remodeling. We told her that we would not do that and offered the recipt at $4,500 she declined and took us to court. She won a judgement for $1,400 because we did not attend the court hearing, it was worth paying that amount in order for her to just go away. As for her unprofessional remarks about "not telling his wife", I am his wife and I am also an equal partner in Charley's Handyman Service and that conversation never happened as I am the one who was dealing with receipt talk with (deleted member name) and her lawyer to which I explained to both of them that there would be a receipt for no more than $4,500 "for termites". The two declined. As for the Seller and the near future... Our company will be going to court on his behalf pertaining to this matter so that (deleted member name) won't be able to take advantage of him too. In closing, it has cost our company $2,500 that we were never paid plus $1,400 and court costs totaling $4,000 for us to interact with (deleted member name). We live and we learn. She got 2 newly remodeled homes and our company is out $4,000. We would like to state that during these remodels she was ever-present and trying to hands-on the work being done herself. We asked her not to do work herself as she was paying us to do it and she stated that these were her properties and that she could fix what she wanted. (Including cabinets and flooring.) Obviously she should stick to flipping houses and not fixing them.
