In May of 2012, I contacted Chestnut Hill on Morse road with an interest in renting one of their 2 bedroom units. The advertisement stated that there would be a 45$ application fee and $250 security deposit to hold a unit. After submitting my application I was contacted by the rental office and they explained that the security deposit would go from $250 to $900. I told the consultant that I am not going to pay $900 security deposit and would look eslewhere. She then states to me "..well if thats the case, you will not be getting your $250 security deposit back ". I blantly said to her..." I did not change the agreement, your office did by changing the deposit to $900 instead of the $250 which was initially advertised" and what I agree to pay as a deposit. I did not sign a lease nor was a unit assigned to me. They did not have a right to keep my deposit since I did nothing to violate the agreement. After arguing with the consultant and explaining to her that I would be filing suit against them, I was given my deposit back but it took them an entire month to return it !! This is unfair. Please, please make sure to write 2 seperate checks to a rental office so that way you can cancel your check if they decide to pull a stunt like this one !
