California Closets - Columbus

The complete construction was done in one day. I wanted the media center constructed in a certain way and they were able to do what I wanted. I needed to see a computer diagram of everything I wanted Before it was put together and any money was exchanged. The company worked well with me and my schedule.

They do different kinds of advertisement. Each branch was independently operated. When I was looking for cabinets to be made, I had all those different estimates that were ridiculous until I found this company. They do a similar job, although they may not use the same grade of wood that other cabinet makers use. Their service price was reasonable than other cabinet makers.

The company was prompt in responding to my online request and was good about making appointment to come to the house. When the designer arrived, he went over the basics (which we knew as we had used California Closets in another city before). He mentioned that he would likely need some time to make the designs and would come back to show them to us. I informed him that I did not want to have another visit in home and would rather correspond via email. He spent about an hour measuring then mentioned again that we needed to set up another in home appointment. I repeated my request to correspond via email. He told me they can't send their completed plans via email. I said no problem, send the basics of the design and price and we can go from there. A week later, when he said he would have them done, I got an email saying that they could either send the full plans for a fee of $500 applied to the install or come meet again in person, but nothing in between. While I can understand concern over your design being used elsewhere, there was little showing me in person was going to do to keep that from happening (the closets are small and only so many ways to design them). I also understand that from a sales perspective, they feel they are better able to get someone to commit if they are in front of you. What I dont understand, is why, after I was very clear on multiple occasions, did they continue the hard sales technique. It truly felt like a used car sales experience. And to further solidify that analogy, when I replied to the email about the options, I didn't hear anything back from either the GM or the design consultant. Overall, a poor experience that was only highlighted when I contacted another closet company and had a very good interaction/ experience.

I called and asked if I could have 2 small shelves made for my master closet (14 x 14 5/8) - small shelves. When they were located in Columbus, if I needed additional shelves as I organized my closets after they were installed I just drove to the Columbus location and they made an additional shelf free of charge right there on site. However, since this company is not in Columbus, the choices are to either have them mailed or to wait weeks until they are in the area on a service call. I chose to have them shipped. The price I paid seemed very high for these little shelves. The most disappointing part was the quality. The melamine was chipped on every side (great way to get snags in your clothing) and it looked like the front of the shelf was glued on. I could see a void between the top and bottom of the shelf and the front. It looked terrible - not even comparable to my existing shelves. I called the company and they initially blamed it on shipping. I told them they were packaged very well. It appeared as though these were scrap pieces that they tried to make into shelves. Then they called me back and told me a service person would be in the area the very next day. When asked if I would be home I said all day except between 1-2 p.m. They stated someone would be at my house after 10 a.m. No one showed up. Then I received a call at 1:00 saying they were on their way. The person said the sheet stated I would only be home at 1:00!!! They did drop off two new shelves that area 80% better (still not as nice as the original), but they still want the bad ones back. Someone is going to stop by next week to get them. I don't want them - they belong in the garbage. Why would a company waste so much in resources - man power, gas, time, wear/tear on a vehicle to pick up two shelves that are about 1 foot by 1 foot and look terrible? It's such an inconvenience. I can't even leave them out on the front porch because of weather - it is pressed board. I would avoid working with this company. They are not the California Closet brand that people are used to and you won't have anyone local for service.

She was very nice and professional - not a lot of new ideas - just re-org what i already had. Price was shockingly high and not a lot of finish options. I'll probably go to Ikea and get a much more stylish cabinet system for a fraction of the price.

They were fabulous they were very professional. It was the best experience I have had with any contract company. I would most definitely use them again in the future.

Called California Closets for an estimate and received a return phone call a week after I submitted the call. Missed the sales person's call so I returned hers only to have her return my call a week later. By then, I already had had their competitor in and signed with them!

The installer arrived within minutes of our agreed upon starting time. He carefully protected the area where he had to work, and then proceeded quietly and efficiently to make the needed repairs.

They converted the walk in to more shelving. I have used them twice and I was able to use the same designer and installer both times.

Our first contact was an unscheduled drop-in at the showroom on Busch Blvd. The rep there was friendly and helpful. She puts us in contact with Dave. Dave came to our home, and in a relatively short period of time, came up with a design and an estimate. We made some minor adjustments, Dave prepared new drawings, and we signed the contract, paying 50% of the total project cost. Only one minor glitch; the floor plan drawing and one of the wall elevation drawings were in conflict, and we didn't pick this up when we were signing the contract. The installer built to the elevations, causing one wall unit to be reversed from our intentions. We decided to accept the layout as installed. This could be avoided by using CAD software. The installer was on time, neat, and worked efficiently. The final product looks great, and will be a big improvement over the wire frame system we've been using since our house was built in 1988.

They came out promptly to give an estimate, sent a drawing in a timely manner and scheduled the work according to our schedule. They showed up on time and completed the job efficiently and neatly.

The initial consultation was very thorough. Kathleen Hutton and I worked on several different design scenarios and finally selected something that met my needs. Very professional, very helpful. The installation also went very smoothly. The only issue that I had was that there were several scratches on the doors that were installed. I expressed that I would like to replace the worse doors, sent pictures to Kathleen to describe what I was talking about, the issues I was seeing. The wood I had chosen is a darker wood that Cal Closets doesn't normally use. Perhaps some things inherent to the finish on the wood that lends itself to scratching during the transition from the wherehouse to installation. Cal Closets understood and replaced the doors. I also indicated other fine scratches and asked that they contact the manufacturer to determine if there is some lacquer or other product to buff out the imperfections. I spent a LOT of $ and expected perfection. Almost got it.

Great. The designer was good, and both of the installers we had were very good. Punctuational, professional, and most competent.

They did a super job from start to finish. The design was great and help to solve a major design problem in my master bath and closet area. They were prompt, pleasant, did super work and called to follow up to see if was satisfied. I highly recommend their services.

Cathy O'Connor did a good job in a timely matter. she helped us design it and made it a personal plan. Comparable price for a better quality product. I would recommend them. We are very happy with the product.

They were prompt and very polite. We just thought that it was too much money, so we didn't pursue it.

We were pleased with our experience. It took several attempts to get the closets to function properly, but the company persisted until we were satisfied.

I highly recommend California Closets. I was treated as though I was their only customer. Phone calls were always returned, and a professional nature was demonstrated by each employee, from the time I made the initial phone call all the way through to installation. I probably paid a little more for the job than if I had used one of their competitors, but I place a high value on customer service, quality of product, and workmanship. I know that if I have a probem with the closet, one phone call will take care of it. It is rare to find a service provider that meets these requirements. I found a great one.

Kathy O'Conner came out promptly and on time. She was wonderful to work with and helped me plan useful storage for my home office. She knew exactly what I wanted and offered lots of options. Her price came in $1000 less than a competitor. The installer arrived on time and did a high quality job and cleaned up before leaving. Kathy called back the next day to be sure everything was perfect. I would highly recommend Kathy O'Conner and California Closets to anyone who cares about quality and value. I have used them before for bedroom closet organization and have always been pleased.
