Awful. $75 fee was for nothing. What a waste.
Description of Work: DO NOT GET AN ESTIMATE FROM THIS COMPANY. The $75 diagnostic charge is a SCAM. Called them to check out my mom's house because the heat was not working. They asked me to approve a visit from a technician who will diagnose the problem and give us a quote for the work, for $75. This fee would be waived if they did the work. I agreed. The technician that showed up was marginally good at what he did. He called and couldn't diagnose the problem because the thermostat wasn't working. Called again later and said we needed to replace the whole unit. I asked him to give us an estimate. No estimate came. I did not get a clear idea what exactly was a problem nor did I get an estimate of what the solution was. My husband later fixed the heating issue by fooling around with the thermostat.

I initially e-mailed the company President with the description of the problem. I received a quick response that same night with helpful direction pointing towards either a faulty high limit switch or failing thermostat. Buckeye Heating called me first thing the following morning and scheduled a diagnostics check for that afternoon. The technician was on time, very professional and knowledgeable. Being an engineer, I hovered over his shoulder with many questions - all answered to my satisfaction. The technician took the time to explain the furnace components, safety features, and offered preventative maintenance suggestions. The final conclusion was that my older mercury thermostat was the culprit. He offered to install a programmable thermostat, but I was capable of doing myself. Buckeye Heat and AC has done other work for me in the past with the same level of honesty and professionalism. I would highly recommend this company to all I know.
Description of Work: An extensive diagnostics check performed to troubleshoot premature kickoff of the furnace.

He then looked at the funace and told me the motor had to be replaced. He also said he had one on the truck and replaced it while he was there. No additional mention was made of price. I happen to know that the price of a motor is about $75. I expected the rate to be about $200.. maybe $300. He spent less than an hour to put it in then gave me an invoice of $601. I was outraged and expressed my disbelief. I paid it then placed a call to the company on Monday after Christmas at 9am. The owner was in a meeting but called me back at 11:30. I told the boss my story and he said he'd call me back after reviewing my account and he never did. I've called back 4 more times since then and the girl that answers just sends me to voice mail. He isn't returning my calls. His name is Brad Wentz and the paper work on my invoice says he's President/General Manager of the company. I expected to hear back from him as he said he would. The paperwork I have also says in print "I want to know that our product and servcies exceed your expectations and that you're 100% satistified. If you have any comments about your experiences I invite you to contact me directly at 614-294-4966." That's what I did, I called them but nothing has happened.. not even a return call. That's just not right. PS: I have been a customer of this company since 1970... that's 39 years. I've purchased 3 other furnaces and 2 heat pumps during that time and never had a problem or a complaint. I've been a good customer. They use to be a good company. Obviously, different people are there now and the service isn't what it use to be. I marked "NO" on this report as to using this company again but that actually depends on the outcome of this complaint. This, right now feels very dishonest. I'm 83 years old and am hoping this report offers support.
Description of Work: I called them on the morning of Christmas Eve and told them that the blower on the furnace was not working. They said there was a tech nearby and they'd send him over. They arrived at 9:30 which was prompt. When he arrived he looked at me and told me it would be $600 but would have been $700 if I'd called him last week. I thought that was so outrageous a price that he had to be kidding. I mean, I really thought he was joking. He hadn't even looked at the furnace yet which is why I thought it was a joke.

Response from Buckeye Heating & Cooling
The above report by the member is accurate. I received a call on December 29th from the member. I responded that day the hear his story. I told him to give me some time to research the job and talk to my Technician. Taking a few days off around the holiday I got after this issue first thing Monday morning Jan 4th. I had trouble locating the service invoice. What the member did not tell me was the call was not run at his home, but at another house he owns on the same street. After running down the invoice on the 5th, I had time to talk with the technician about his call. He told me that he never jokes about the cost of repairs and that he explained to the member that the travel and diagnostic fee plus the blower motor and labor would be around $600. I am not sure what the member was shocked when he received the bill or thought my technician was joking. The cost of that blower motor as well as the capacitor that he needed is much higher than the $75 the member stated above. I called the member back in the morning of the 6th to discuss and resolve the price issue. We had a good talk and both parties are happy. That is when he informed me that he had written up a bad review on Angie's List. I do not feel I was not given proper time to research and address the problem before a customer takes such drastic measures. I could understand weeks going by without contact but not 3 business days of which I was only in the office 2.

I have been very pleased with Buckeye Heating and Cooling. I have used them for many years to do annual maintenance on my furnace and have always been satified with their work. They have been warning me that my approx. 20 yr old unit was at the latter years of service and that when it fails, it may be worthwhile looking into purchasing new and more efficient equipment. This past fall I came home from out of town to find my furnace/AC no longer working. I called them to schedule an appointment to get an estimate on replacing my units. Brad came out to give the estimate and was very thorough, pleasant, and low pressure which I appreciated. I could not be more pleased with the unit I chose. They had several rebates and early bird incentives which further discounted the price, coupled with my tax rebate for a more efficient unit, I got an apporximately $7500 for $4500. Needless to say I was thrilled with this! My old furnace had a small asbestos pad on it so Brad coordinated the removal of the pad with the installation. He told me that the asbestos removers would be at my house at 7:30 and they showed up on time and Brad's installers showed up within 15 minutes after they removers completed their job. Installation of the new units was completed by 4:30 that day. They were respectfull of my property and left the place spotless when they left. Needless to say I am more than pleased with this company and they will be servicing my heating/AC needs for a long time.

Went perfect! Brad the president came and gave me an estimate the next day after my call. I had 4 other estimates from other vendors that week. He had the best price for the quality I wanted and made the options easy to pick from and simple. I had no feeling why we shouldn't trust what he was going to deliver on. The two guys came the day I wanted and were very helpful with my wife and I. They were sure not to dirty up the house and were very freindly. I shopped around and Buckeye had the best deal if you paid in full the day of install. We were happy

This is a very professional company. The quotation was made clearly with good explanation of what was being quoted. The price was about 10% lower than the other quotes I received. We had 3 estimates, and we decided that we liked Buckeye Heating and Cooling the best. We felt like they had the best price for the quality of equipment that they put in. They came out, checked it all over, and told us what was wrong. They felt like we needed a new unit, because it was leaking coolant. They tried to put the new coolant in, but it came right back out. The approximate amount of time a heat pump is good for is 15 years, and ours was 14 years old. They thought it was a good idea to replace it, rather than putting anymore money towards fixing it. The equipment that Buckeye used was a Train. We looked it up, and kind of liked that brand name. They weren't the cheapest, but the brand was a little more expensive. We just decided to go ahead and have it put in.

My A/C broke down just as the summer heat started in late May. The technician Randy came out - he was very honest and told me that he could refill the freon, but he felt I would be putting good money after bad and that a new unit would be best. He also told me to think about new AC + furnace: my old furnace had already needed one repair, and replacing both would give me the best value, best efficiency, and also get me the full tax rebate. I went with his recommendation and am very happy. I did notice the new AC unit (very quiet!) seemed to be making just a little more noise - Randy again came out, agreed that although it was subtle, he felt it was just a little noisy, so he replaced the blower motor, no questions asked. Someone else could have told me I was hearing things and I would have believed them, so I really feel I can trust them (especially Randy!).

Buckeye Heating & Cooling was not taken over by a company called Wegibal. I am not sure where this member received this information. If I had to guess, I think this customer must have used Weibal Heating for the past 7 years and Weibal was bought out by another company in this town. At that point she switched to Buckeye Heating and has been happy with our service.

Everything went very well. What impressed me most was the apparent honesty of their salesperson (Pete). He had several opportunities to get me to spend more but each time I felt like he was giving me an honest assessment, not just a sales pitch to increase his sales commission. He even helped me argue with my home warranty company to get them to fix the unit, which would have resulted in no business for him.

They were great. Brad came out and gave us a quote. They were not the lowest price, but the price was very competetive with every other company. But you get what you pay for. The crew came in two days later and did an install. The guys had to contend with difficulties, but were super professional and friendly. They even gave my dog some attention. Additionally they installed a flip switch to turn the HVAC on and off. The people who did the previous install did it with the lights....so cutting power to the unit cuts it out for the lights as well. It was unexpected but a nice thing that they did. We also found out that there was an additional rebate that Brad did nto even know about.....so the price was even better. Would definitely work with them again.
