I had a horrible customer service with Buckeye. I'd previously been told they could have someone out that afternoon and that they'd call to give me a time (so I could leave my office and travel home). Instead they called over the lunch hour, left a message, and dispatched the technician without confirming I could be there, then left me an invoice for the trip. When I called them to discuss and possibly re-schedule I was told very curtly "that's how they work" and that it was essentially my fault for not being available; this was shared in a very negative tone and that I owed them for the travel time. It certainly seems like they must have plenty of business if they can treat potential customers so rudely.

I have an annual contract with them. They come out twice a year to service my heating and air conditioning units. Three years ago, they installed heating and air conditioning systems, at a reasonable price. They are a great company. They are good at scheduling. They come out on time. The service technicians are very knowledgeable. I will continue to use their services in the future.

We had the A/C running all day, every day and it wasn't keeping the house cool. We have an older unit and I'd had it recharged in the past. The technician was courteous and did his job thoroughly. He told us we should be figuring out how to replace the unit as soon as possible, but didn't give us a hard sell. The A/C immediately provided a more comfortable atmosphere and worked well throughout the summer.

The service tech arrived early (I believe I was the first stop on his work schedule). He did his AC check (check AC pressures and temperatures) and made a requested change to the AC condensate drain (Cost ~$90).
Description of Work: I have used this company before for a seasonal maintenance contract. Since purchasing our new residence I re-activated the service contact with the company. This visit was for the "spring" service maintenance call. The $140 dollar charge is for spring/fall maintenance visits.

I also took advantage of the Angie's List Special for cleaning the a/c & freon. We go the appt quickly and Larry came out right on time. He told my husband that there was a crack in the belt that was causing the blower to not operate properly and we should replace both for $665. He said these parts could go tomorrow or last for years and years--impossible to predict. The weekend was pretty nice and we didn't turn out a/c back on after he left until yesterday. I got home and it seemed stuffy but was very hot outside. When I got home from work today I couldn't figure it out because it really felt stuffy and usually this summer when I walk in after work I need to put a sweatshirt on because it is too cold for me. So, I went to feel how cold the air was coming out and there was no air coming out--I checked all over the house. So, I thought maybe we were supposed to turn something back on after Larry left that we forgot or that he might have forgotten to do something so I called Buckeye Heating and Cooling. I spoke to a nice man that said the office was closed but he would have someone call me. So a tech called and I said no cold air was coming out and he said maybe we had "frozen up"--that this can happen when they put freon in and if it is that I have to turn off everything because he cannot do anything until it is unfrozen. So I went down the basement and he told me what to look for and sure enough I could see the ice. He said it could be the motor or blower he wouldn't know until he looks at it. He could have come out tonight for $118 but couldn't really do anything because of the freezing and I need to call the office in the morning to schedule. Obviously, I can't say they did anything wrong but this is just really a huge coincidence!

Response from Buckeye Heating & Cooling
As September 2, 2010 Buckeye Heating & Cooling has performed 43 A/C inspections with the Special price of $40. Only 5 customers out of 43 have needed or been advised they need any additional work. Our technicains are not spiffed or commisioned in any way. They have no reason to try and take advantage of any situation. They are trained to act like a doctor. They need to be honest with all customers about the state of their equipment. Just like a doctor needs to be upfront and honest with their patients. Can you imagine if a doctor knew something needed done and did not tell you because he did not want to break the news to you? Buckeye will continue to inform each customer of their current issues as well as any potential upcoming issues. At that point our customers can deside if they want to be proactive or reactive to the problem. Almost all of our customer appreciate our approach and I do not know any other way to conduct my business. Brad Wentz President Buckeye Heating & Cooling

We called as we have a service contract early Friday evening. We were told we would get a call. We finally called back at about 9:30 as we had heard from no one. The tech could not come out as it was dark, but he had no knowledge of the call. On Saturday we called in the morning to ensure we would get service. The tech on call did not know of us again, even though the tech from the previuos night said he would make sure we were serviced promptly in the morning. We finally got a tech to come out. When he got here he was great. Our contract helps us get service, but their communication challenges do not allow us to get service as promptly as we would hope for, or for that matter without extensive follow up from us.

I paid my money to Angie's List and got my coupon for half off air conditioning check and cleaning from Buckeye Heating. I called them and set the appointment. The appt. was set for between the hours of 9-12 and he arrived at 9:30 (which was good). The first thing he did was check my air filter (which is a long term and expensive air filter) and he said it needed replaced. I said ok. He wanted to check my Aprilair humitity box on the furnace and I said no it was ok. Next he went outside to look at the outdoor unit and came back shortly holding a part that he said needed replaced and that it could go out at any time. What was I to do? So he replaced it. All in all I paid $240 for a $40 special to have my air conditioner checked. I think that was pretty expensive. I guess it goes to show that I should have stayed with my old company who had been servicing my high efficency furnace unit. I feel that I was "cleaned" after having mine cleaned.

Response from Buckeye Heating & Cooling
I'm sorry this customer feels bad about their experience. The customer always have the right to decline a repair. Eventually and old capacitor will go bad and leave you stranded without cooling. The customer can wait until it finally fails and pay a diagnostic fee as well as the repair bill. This customer saved $75 on a dianostic fee and $50 on the air conditioner check. They have also avoided being without cooling for a few days next summer. All in all I think this was a great deal.

Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. I emailed about 8 different Angie's list heating and cooling vendors. All responded, but most emails were not very professional and did not address my question. Diane from Buckeye heating responded with the most professional email and really seemed eager to help me. She gave me some tips I could do myself that may have fixed my a/c. I was very appreciative of her efforts, so when those tips didn't work I decided Buckeye Heating and Cooling was the direction I wanted to go to get my unit fixed. My a/c and furnace are both over 20 years old and I am very aware these will need to be replace very soon, but I would like to get all the life I can possibly get from them. Their service tech Larry arrived at my house was very professional gentleman. He did the freon charge and my a/c was working again. Up to this point I was very happy with this company. About two days later I noticed some standing water in my basement coming from my air conditioner. This never happened before Buckeye Heating arrived; therefore I wanted them to know about my issue. I contacted Diane; again who was turned a bit hasty with me. She told me "this will happen with older units when they are low are freon. They will begin to freeze and melt and this is the reason for the standing water." This didn't make sense to me since I was almost out of freon before Buckeye heating and cooling came to my house and I never had any standing water in my basement. I, then questioned her and she got very angry and raised her tone of voice with a comment to the effect of "I've been doing this for 25 years and I know what happening to your unit." I insisted this didn't make sense and she sent Larry back to my house that same day as my call. I was happy about this until he took 10 minutes to tell me the same thing and charge me $70 dollars for coming back out to my house. Larry opened up my a/c unit to show me coils that were not frozen up and told me they were freezing up and leaking. I was not happy about the trip charge and called Diane back immediately. She never returned my phone call. This $70 charge didn't seem to make much sense to me. I did not have a leaking air conditioner prior to Buckeye Heating and Coolings arrival at my home. I am also obviously in the market to purchase a new a/c unit and heating unit since mine are over 20 years old. If Buckeye heating and cooling really cared about making things right, in my opinion, they would not have charged me for that extra trip charge. Constantly frustrated with a basement that has standing water, I began to tinker with the air conditioner to see if I could fix the problem. After about an hour I had discovered where the leak was coming from. I tried two things and quickly discovered where the problem was in the a/c unit. There is pvc piping leaving the a/c unit going to a drain in my basement. The pvc I noticed was very dirty. I dropped some hot water down the tubing and used a wet/dry vac to clean out the tubing. I also noticed part of the pvc could be hindering the draining process. I have absolutely no experience in heating and cooling and I fixed the problem in less than 2 hours. Overall, this makes me happy to know that I did not stay with this company and eventually purchase my furnace and air conditioning unit because they do not provide the service that would take care of the investment in my home.

We took advantage of the special they were running for cleaning and service. They did add coolant and it was a really good price for that service. The only thing I wasn't totally happy with was that the special was to include cleaning, but when he got here he said we should have our fan cleaned and that would be $230 if he did that. Since cleaning was included in the coupon we bought, I wasn't really excited to hear that we needed more cleaning for about 6 times the price of the original quote that was to include cleaning. Given what we paid, we got what we paid for but it still was just a little disappointing. I think what we got was a crazy good deal for what we paid, but I was expecting what the ad said - cleaning. So the fairest thing I think would be to have explained what they really meant by cleaning. I still would have purchased the coupon for the $40 deal though - that was a good deal to come out and add coolant and do SOME cleaning.

I called the Heating & AC company that normally service our AC but they didn't call back so I called Buckey. The service rep for Buckey was great on the phone and said they would come out in an hour to take a look at our AC issue. 15min after I talked to the rep my original H/C called back and said they would come out for free. I called Buckey back and asked that they cancel the rep coming out but they never sent the message out to him. When he came out he was very irritated that I had cancelled the service and told me that he would add us to his Database as homeowners not to call. Very unprofessional. Why should the homeowner be responsible for Buckey not sending a cancellation to the service tech.

Great overall experience. I got 5 quotes from different company and Buckeye is the most competitive and best warranty offered. Brad also offered different options so I can do mix & match that works with my budget. The installation took 1 day. I was working from home upstair and the crew came in and did they job. They started at ~9am and finished by 3pm. My husband came home and couldn't even tell that they were here. They cleaned up nicely. We enjoy the new Lennox system and will definitely use them for our annual maintenance service.

Things took a couple more hours than stated but they had double inspections.Everything looks great and my wife and I are very pleased and now cool in these temps of low 90's.
Description of Work: Air conditioner died that Friday. Buckeye and two other comapnies were contacted on the following Monday. I got quotes from two other comapnies for diffrent brand type units. I talked with Pete the salseman for Buckeye and he informed me of the srevices and materials they supplied - as compared to some competetors. Buckeye not only took time to educate me,,but Pete came to my house after having dinner with his family and provided me with both a written estimate and walk through/oral evaluation. He was very courteoeus and professional and friendly! He told me that he could give a savings for paying at once with cash or check He explained everything thoroughly and could install everything on Wed starting at 830. They came and installed it and by 6 tha evening house began to cool.
