Very disappointed with our experience. Provider was unable to keep first appointment. Arrived for the reschedule close to 9pm for service that was to take 4 hours. Provider called first and seemed hesitant to want to come out at that time, and upon arriving, did not attempt to perform any repairs, but instead wanted to replace the motor and other parts. (Our spa was purchased in September of ?22.) When setting up the appointment, I asked a lot of questions about the costs, and the provider was up front about the trip charge ($300) and the hourly rate ($150.) The provider did not mention that replacement parts would be north of $3000. The total for our repairs wouldve been close to $4000, so we decided to not move forward with the job. This experience cost us $500 just to have the provider attempt to sell us new parts, a new spa, or haul away our old one. It felt very much like the provider determined that $500 for 15 minutes of his time was worth more than a four hour cleaning and repair, so a price was set that we would refuse. Provider indicated that our spa was low quality and the motor failing was unsurprising. Provider knew the model during our phone conversation and did not mention the likelihood of needing to replace the motor, or the cost associated with that. My expectation was that a worst-case scenario would be about $1500, so the $4000 quote was a bit shocking. I cant speak to the quality of work because we chose not to move forward. The provider made his diagnosis by sound alone, so I am not sure if that is reasonable, or if he should have removed parts to look around and get more information. It did feel like the conversation went quickly to new parts, new spa, etc. The exchange just did not feel right for a two year old spa, and the provider had no problem writing up the $500 invoice for 15 minutes and performing no work. Things that would have changed my rating: The provider explaining up front the potential total of the repairs. Had we known we could be looking at potentially $4000, we would not have scheduled the appointment at this time. Googling our spa?s symptoms led us to believe this would be a simple and relatively inexpensive repair. We were still not sure if the inexpensive repair route is an option, because the provider did not attempt to see if the knocking sound was being caused by debris. Were left to trust that he was 100% certain of his diagnosis by sound alone, but after the lack of transparency on price, we were not completely confident in that. I understand the trip charge and the hourly rate for work. Given the circumstances, I feel the provider could have waived the hourly rate for the 15 minute conversation and only charged us the $300 for the trip charge, (which still wouldve stung, but it wouldve at least made us feel like we werent getting totally screwed.) Charging the full price for what was provided (or more accurately, what wasnt provided,) has also contributed to our feelings that maybe we made a mistake in choosing this provider.
