Initially, scheduling with them was OK but to get them back out was not smooth as they said it would be 4-5 days. When I indicate this was unacceptable, they were able to able to get someone out the same day. The second plumber seemed more knowledgeable. For both visits they were on-time.
Description of Work: They came out initially to check the efficiency on the toilets. They adjusted the levers on a toilets and this created an issue with one of the toilets and they needed to send someone back out to correct this issue.

I told them the issue was inside a crawl space, and they sent out a serviceman who did not work in crawl spaces. I had to reschedule the appointment in order to receive a serviceman that would work in the crawlspace. Also, the price of the work ended up averaging the standard cost of the same service previously, which didn't really save me money at all. With the exception of the cost coupled with my frustration in rescheduling the service, I was overall satisfied with the work.

Suggested using compressed air because the pipes were old. However, one pipe is still slow to drain, and he missed one drain outlet completely. Suggested replacing a portion of the sump pump line, but his estimate was almost twice that of another plumber I got for a second estimate. I went with the second estimate. Would not recommend this outfit.

Most was covered up top...I was not impressed in spite of the quotes to repair lines. Especially given the costs associated with telling me it was going to be that much money after I had already spent double what the norm was for a clean out that didn't clean the line.
Description of Work: Call was for a backed up sewer line. At first, he wanted to skewer the floor drain after I told him it was unlikely that drain. After that failed,we found the cleanout behind a bathroom wall. I was OK with making a hole into the wall. After hole was made I helped get a drain auger into the bathroom...well...no trick was going to get the cover off the cleanout....i may have been working harder than the repairman at this point. Finally we got cover off and got to cleaning the main line. Three runs through and it did not completely remove the roots from the line. Although they normally guarantee their work for 1 year on drain cleaning, I was told they could not in my case. There was a camera ran down my line without me saying OK to that charge. The 5% off coupon was a gimmick...the tech kept talking about 'writing off' this and that..I had bought the $50 for. $100 plumbing work and was unable to use the coupon for the cleaning..not detailed enough when I made that investment...maybe I can use it to replace the damaged cleanout...so I was given bids of $4000 to $8000 to repair the sewer line. After the indecision of what I thought would be a $200 job on my cleanout, I don't know I could go through with this company.

I purchased a big deal from Angie's List and their services turned out fine. They charged me extra other than the big deal purchase, because they had to clean out the sensor or something that they had to do. I was not really expecting it, but I had to have it done to get the water heater going. I have a friend who knew a plumber and they were out here a year ago, they came out and they charged me for the entire bill $78 and the next time if something goes wrong I am going to get him back out here again because it is a little cheaper for me. The water heater that I have is very sensitive and if they had to replace it it would have cost me a lot more than that. So they just kind of cleaned it up. I did not realize it was going to cost that much, but since they were here I had to have it done because I was having no hot water. I probably would not go back to them only because of the cost and I am trying to stay on a budget. When you pay more than what you are really expecting to pay, it is a lot of money. It was a really fast service and I appreciated that. It is just the price.

On Monday, 8/19, we placed a call to American Home Shield (AHS) regarding a leak in our basement coming from the kitchen drain pipe located above it. In the early afternoon on Wednesday, 8/21, two technicians from Rescue Rooter came to look into the problem. They diagnosed that insufficient solvent cement had been applied and insufficient twisting of the fitting had occurred when the plumbing was originally done 29 years ago. They applied a healthy coating of solvent cement at the connection and told us not to use the drain for an hour to allow the cement to set. Thirty minutes later we heard it dripping in the basement again, despite the fact that the kitchen sink had not been used. We observed that the drip was coming from a crack in a pipe that was not where the Rescue Rooter technicians applied the solvent cement. The leak was now worse than it was originally. We immediately called Rescue Rooter, and they said that they would ask the technicians to return to our home later in the day. They did not do so. On Thursday, 8/22, we called Rescue Rooter again. They seemed surprised that we had not been visited by or had not heard from the original technicians. They assured us we would hear from them later that day. They did not do so. On Friday, 8/23, we called Rescue Rooter again. This time they told us that since the original call through AHS had been closed, we would have to contact AHS to re-open the call so that they could return. We called AHS immediately on Friday, and they said that they would re-open the call with Rescue Rooter so that our leak could be addressed. We heard nothing from Rescue Rooter on Monday, 8/26. On Tuesday, 8/27, we called Rescue Rooter, and they told us that the technicians would be at our home between 1pm and 5pm on Wednesday, 8/28. On Wednesday, 8/28, Rescue Rooter called us at 2:52pm and said that the technicians were on their way to our home. When they had not arrived by 4:50pm, we called Rescue Rooter to ask when they would arrive. Rescue Rooter told us that AHS had cancelled the call. Really?! They just happened to cancel the call between 2:52pm and the time they would have arrived? We called AHS at that point, who told us that they had not cancelled the call and asked if we would like them to send someone else to handle our issue. We jumped at the chance to have a knowledgeable and reliable technician attend to our problem. We were contacted by A Water Solutions early Thursday, 8/29, saying they would be here between 11am and 1pm. They called at 10:30am to say that Tim of A Water Solutions was on his way. He arrived right at 11am. He quickly diagnosed a crack in the drain pipe and informed us that he would have to purchase the necessary parts to fix the problem and get us scheduled. As this was just before Labor Day weekend, he said it would probably be done the next week. When he returned the next week, it took him less than an hour to fix our problem. We only wish that our first call had been serviced by Tim of A Water Solutions!

ARS came in to review the problem, which was a leaking bath tub drain. They gave me a quote of $1187.34, saying it would be necessary to cut open a large portion of drywall and do other related work. Based on my own investigation, I do not believe the project is nearly that involved and can be done for much less by someone else. I therefore request a refund of the $111.00 paid for the Big Deal.

I used ARS-Rescue Rooter twice. The first time was to repair a leaking outdoor water tap. Ended up with a new tap and a new shut off valve. While Rescue Rooter was here I was shown that my hot water tank was leaking and was told that the Main water line might not turn back on. Repairs for these items would be around 1400.00. The quote was to include code updates and inspection of work. The plumber explained a financing option that could be of use for the work. I was told he would come back on Monday with the paperwork and he would finish sealing around the new outside water tap. I did not hear from him for over a week. I called and a message was left for this plumber to call me. Again I did not hear anything. I called back and spoke with a representative who was very helpful in assisting me to schedule the work and worked with my home warranty company. A new plumber came for the second job, upgraded my hot water tank, finished the work on the outside tap and told me I did not need the work done on the main water line. Altogether the total cost for both jobs was 760.00 before coupon from Angie's List and the home warranty companies portion for the hot water tank. The work done on the hot water tank and upgrade I am very pleased with. The outside water tap and wait to have that finished could have been better and more timely done.
Description of Work: replace outside water tap with new shut off, replaced hot water tank with upgrade from 30gallons to 50 gallons and updated to code.

My Appointment was for Friday, August 16, 2013 between 8am and 12 noon. At approximately 11:45 am ARS called to say they were running late but were still going to be able to complete my order. At 12 Noon they call again to say the technician was on his way. The ARS technician arrived at 1:00 pm. His name was Jeff. I handed him the coupon. When he saw two faucet boxes in my kicthen he said that he needed to talk with his boss because he wasn't famliar with the coupon and had never seen it before. He wanted to be sure of the charges. He went back outside. He returned and showed me a price list that said one faucet install was $248.00 dollars and the coupon I purchased was worth $200.00 dollars. The additional charge for one faucet would be $48.00 dollars. To install the other faucet it would be an additional $348.00 dollars. I told Jeff to only install the Kitchen Faucet. He completed the install with no problems. As this was my first experience with using a coupon purchase from Angie's list, I chalked it up to my lack of knowledge on how these work. I was not impressed by ARS and although Jeff was polite and did the work, my first impression didn't leave me with a warm an fuzzy feeling that I could trust this company to handle my plumbing repair needs.

It went well enough. The plumber was very friendly and outgoing. I upgraded the new faucet to a frost free model at an additional cost. The add-on was quite a bit more than a competitor who replaced the other outdoor faucet last autumn. Plumber was quick and did the job. My only complaint was that he left solder spattered on the laundry sink below where he was working.

I have rated this company a "D" because they did show up on time, and their workers were friendly, but my feeling is that they should be an "F". This repair should have taken only one hour to do, ended up taking several days, multiple trips and tons of frustration. On the first trip, the installer was here for about an hour, and told me the repair was complete, and I could call the gas company for an inspection. The gas company inspected and the installation failed. I called Rescue Rooter back and the installer came back later that day. The installer told me that he didn't know why they failed the inspection, it was working fine. I looked at the part installed, and it appeared to be a different shape - when I inquired about the part, the installer told me, "it's not the part , this is a "new, streamined version of the old regulator, and that they look different now". He turned a few screws as an adjustment and told me again that there was really no need for them to come back out, and that the inspector could have done the adjustment, but "they don't like to help clients". I called for another inspection. The inspector this time came out at 9pm (to accomodate us!). The inspection failed a second time. This time the inspector was angry, because it appeared that the installer had no comprehension of what was wrong. He told me that I needed to ask for a supervisor to come out. The inspector pointed to the "new, streamlined" part that was installed and said, "I think that part is your problem". The gas company went out of their way to help us by having an engineer research the regulator that was installed, on our behalf. It turns out the regulator that was installed is typically used for an appliance installation, not for a residential gas line. They were able to tell me exactly which part numbers would be acceptable, and I called Rescue Rooter back and asked for this specific part. On the third attempt, Rescue Rooter sent a supervisor and the installation went smoothly and passed inspection. Bottom line, the original service tech installed the wrong regulator part, and insisted that they did not. Had it not been for the gas company, this could have gone on for days. This should have been a simple repair/replace. Instead, we had no hot water for two days. Based on our experience, I would not use these guys again for gas line repair. When working with gas, I don't want there to be any mistakes.

Bought an Angie's List special for outside spigot replacement. The contact was through an email. I sent several e-mail and got no response over a 2 month period. I did eventually call and was put on the schedule immediately and for the next week. The initial deal was for $80 and I supplied the spigot because I did not want a contractor grade. The inside installation was in a 1/2 basement above some ductwork and the installation required an additional $100, which I agreed to and anticipated. The installer was able to use a solderless quick connect fitting that took about 5 minutes to install. Job was done well and the installer was friendly, courteous and professional. The $180 turned out to be not so much of a deal.
