Details above. The professional was very courteous and friendly, although I don't feel he really knew what he was doing, as described above.
Description of Work: The provider was supposed to drain my water heater. He called the company for advice, as he was outside my window unhooking my hose to use for this procedure. He said I had no drain outlet. I asked if he drained all of the water from the heater. He said, "no," it wasn't necessary,. What was my purpose to get the provider? Everyone else I talked to said the heater needed to be thoroughly drained to rid it of sediment or residue. The provider checked the upstairs bathroom faucet stopper. He said he would fix it real quick. It was so stuck after he left that I had to pay a handyman to make my stopper go up and down.

We were contacted by the provider to set a time which we did in the morning. We waited til mid-late afternoon and no one arrived and we received no phone calls. We called and were told they were so busy and running behind so we rescheduled for the next week in the morning. Again we waited til afternoon and again we received no phone calls and no one arrived. We again called only to be told the same thing and they asked if we could try another day. My husband said no. He was done.

It was fine. They looked at it and gave me an estimate of $2,000 for repairs. They did what they said they would do for the money, so it was fine. I would tell people to be prepared for repair suggestions to be made after the inspection, which is normal. They did a good job. I would not use them.

The sump was uncovered, and the plumber turned on the battery-operated pump. I do not believe that the standard pump was looked at. He took the cover off the battery and discovered that it was a gel deep-discharge battery -- i.e., truly maintenance free. No water was added to the sump to see if the pump was really functioning to spec. I was given a two-hour window for the service, and I did call the company at the time the window was over. I was assured that "he's on the way," but he didn't get there until 30 minutes after the end of the appointed time. The plumber was the service manager for the company, and he was kind enough to look at an upstairs bathroom sink and tell me how to fix it myself. Overall, the inspection was so brief that I didn't think that the "Angie's List Big Deal" was a deal at all. I know that you have to pay for a service person to come to your house and that the price you pay is for that as well as the job, but even considering that fact, I didn't think that the service performed justified the price. The no-charge advice on the other plumbing problem was a mitigating factor, however, and led me to award a "B" instead of a lower grade.

Al came over and immediately & correctly determined the sink drain was clogged. Quoted $225 to unclog a bathroom sink drain. This was so very overpriced it was ridiculous. Immediately told him not to perform the service. The price then dropped to $75 cash. Then unclogged the drain in 5 to 10 minutes for a total charge of $175. I feel the $50 for $100 of service is a rip off and they simply overcharge to totally eliminate the initial $100. No way this should have exceeded $125. This was not a main stack drain, only a bathroom sink drain. Definitely no bargain.

Columbus Worthington Air installed our tankless water heater; when it stopped working, they sent ARS/Rescue Rooter plumbers since they are their parent company and that is what they are required to do. The plumbers who came out told me that because we had not had our tankless water heater cleaned every year (which they recommended), it was most certainly clogged and we were going to have to get a new one right away. I was incredibly upset that no one had told us to clean our water heater once a year and called Columbus/Worthington Air at once to ask them to pay for our new water heater. Because we had a warranty through Columbus/Worthington air, actual Columbus/Worthington Air plumber had to come out to see the damage before they would agree to honor the warranty. It turns out that there only a little bit of sentiment that was drained and a small part had gone bad that they replaced. Plus, there is no need to clean tankless water heaters on a yearly basis since not much sentiment gets into them (as when he drained it to check we saw little to no sentiment). Had we listened to ARS/Rescue Rooter we would have spent $3000 needlessly.
Description of Work: Inspected our tankless water heater for problems.

Already sent an email complaint. I am to upset to go into detail again. I understand this was a extremely busy day, nevertheless an honest response would have given me an earlier opportunity to get the service my family desperately needed. Another company did respond that same very late evening and gave my family water usage. I feel that I was left out in the cold because I had purchased the coupon while the company was busy getting top dollar prices.
Description of Work: Never responded kept changing arrival times. Never gave me an opportunity to make other arrangements. Was obviously to busy making extra money at after hour prices to keep my appointment.

Overall went well, though the toilet itself had a defect so they had to come back out to replace the shut-off valve. The tank also developed a small leak after 1 week so a 3rd trip was required. Both service calls were handled by a plumber named Allen professionally and there was no charge for either. Despite the inconvenience of having to have 3 visits to get all issues resolved, I would still be willing to use them again. For $200, I received a new toilet and they put a a good deal of effort into getting it right. The only other comment I would make is that buying the "big deal" appeared to cause some confusion. When it was installed the plumber expected me to pay him. I informed him I paid for it through the 'big deal' link. Thankfully I could bring up the receipt on my phone and he just wrote down some information and was fine. This fact did cause some small confusion when I called for service on the toilet, since the customer service rep saw that a plumber was sent but no work was billed so the customer service rep thought the plumber didn't do any work. I explained the situation and it was resolved very quickly, but just an FYI that the big deal promotions may cause some confusion with service providers.

I was really upset because I wanted to talk to the technician. My roomate said that they did flush the hot water tank but did not perform any of the other services that were advertised as a "Comprehensive Plumbing Inspection" They also tried to sell us a new hot water heater. I called them to complain and the person that answered the phone said that I need to speak with the technician. I did and he was supposed to follow up after Thanksgiving to reschedule and never did. I was not impressed with this whole experience.
Description of Work: I scheduled the appt on Tuesday, 11/19/13 @ 6:00 p.m. I made it clear when setting up the appt that I worked and needed that time. I got home from work at 6:00 p.m. and they had already come and gone.

I'm not sure of the exact date of my service because I don't have my invoice in front of me, but it was around the 3rd week of November. Firstly, I would rate my initial appointment as all As. The technician was knowledgeable, professional, and personable. I asked him a number of questions, and he was happy to answer all of them as we made our way through the house checking out the plumbing and the hot water tank. The reason the Overall rating and the Quality rating are both B for the review involves the second appointment I had to make to take advantage of the sewer line camera inspection. I was kind of annoyed by the fact that the Angie's List deal I purchased included the sewer line camera inspection but that the technician for the initial appointment was not equipped to handle that portion of the deal. Accordingly, I had to make time in my work schedule for another appointment for the camera inspection (though the company was prompt in contacting me and setting that appointment up). I was not particularly impressed with or satisfied with the second technician that came into my house with the camera to inspect the sewer line. He was more of a salesman than a service provider; he strongly stressed that I needed to spend $10k+ to have them come in and fully replace my sewer line and get my landscaping redone. When I told him I wasn't going to be signing the contract he offered me to have that work done, he came back at me with another offer to have my line pressure-cleaned for ~$700 with no guaranteed results. I told him "no" to that as well and instead paid another company (for a second opinion) to clean my line and do a follow-up camera inspection. That second opinion resulted in me spending only $100 more and feeling more content with my line in its current state (I understand the sewer line could break in some way at any given moment, but the second company did not see it as being anywhere near as urgent a situation as I was made to believe it was by the ARS/Rescue Rooter technician). Additionally, the second ARS/RR technician that did the sewer line inspection was careless with my dryer vent tubing while getting access to the sewer line. The vent tubing fell apart and he stood there for ten minutes trying to get it back together. Several days later, the next time the dryer was used, I came across a mess of lint and saw that the tubing disconnected again at the point where he'd tried to put it back together. It wasn't the end of the world, but it was still annoying to deal with.

The work was done on time and professionally. Replacing the faucet cartridge (which we provided) took less than 40 minutes (no under-sink work required). Snaking the slow shower drain took about 20 minutes. What troubled me the most was the cost: $300 to do the cartridge, and $200 for the shower drain. I had purchased an Angies list coupon so felt locked in to using them. I have not used plumbing services in quite a while, so maybe prices have changed, but what they charged seemed outrageous. I won't be using them again.

I had purchased the $99 Big Deal from Angie's List because although it said "shut-off valve replacement," and I did not need that, it showed a picture of an outdoor faucet, and spoke in the description of a weather-proof shut off valve and putting a quarter-turn ball-and-c*** shut off on the outdoor bibb. So I decided that they did mean replacing the outdoor faucet, and that is the understanding the Angie's List representative (on the phone) had too. But when the first tech showed up to do the work, (after missing the appointment by about 4 hours), he took one look at my outdoor faucet and said the Deal was not for that. He was not interested in looking at my indoor shut-off, which he said the Deal was for, and instead, when I asked him if he was just going to leave and refuse me any service, he said yes and turned and left. This left me with the impression that they were already used to this confusion from other customers and were already decided not to honor the Big Deal. I got on the phone with Angie's List, and while I was on the phone, the business owner of ARS called me. He apologized and said the Deal was very confusing and that he would honor it. An appointment was made for the next day, a Friday. No one showed up. Late on Friday I finally reached someone on the phone at ARS, and they rescheduled me for Saturday. No one showed up. Again, late in the day Saturday someone finally answered the phone at ARS, and they rescheduled me for Monday. But on Sunday morning, as I was preparing to leave the house, I got a call from ARS that a tech was on the way. So I stayed home, and met with the tech. He informed me that despite the owner's agreement, to replace the outdoor faucet would cost me much much more than the $99 Deal, because of factors that the owner couldn't have known over the phone. He offered to repack the outdoor faucet and replace a washer, which he said should keep me for about a year. He OKed with the owner that this was done without charge, and that they will honor the coupon in the future if I wish it. So I am very confused: I got free service, but that service was so inexpensive and temporary that it was not worth the $99 I paid, and while I still have the value of the $99 Big Deal, I cannot use it. While I appreciate them doing the little work they did for free, which they said was because of the inconvenience of the missed appointments, but I've done that repair myself in the past and it is cheap, I nevertheless feel that I got significantly ripped off for my $99.

Appointment was scheduled and I took a day off work to accomodate. They called and indicated the peron could not come because they had a mandatory meeting that day and rescheduled. The gentleman came and he sounded very experienced; he however did not know what he was here for and did not have the dye on his truck to test the toilets or to flush the water heater. I did not call the company back about the appointment nor am I interested in any further contact with this company.

After approximately a week, they came out. I gave them 3 small projects that needed problem attention. They cam out, did not repair any, and left. I called them to see why they did not repair anything. 1 leak was at dishwasher ( they don't repair) 1 leak was sink drain ( they could not locate...not sure how you can not locate a leak if you are a plumber). 1 leak was outside faucet what would not complete shut off. They left an estimate for approx. $300 for that. |Also they were to return my call, explaining why this repair is $300, but they did not return my call. I am certain that I will not be using them again. |Ernest

I discovered storm water ponding in my yard and in the window wells of my basement windows on Sunday evening (12/22). I searched for plumbing contractors on your website and selected ARS Rescue Rooter based on the reviews and the $200 coupon being advertised by Angie's list. After 2 unreturned calls to ARS's local number where the voice mail indicated that a " technician" was on call and would return my call, I ended up calling the 866 number on the ARS website that took me to a 24 hour call center in California. The contact person there also experienced difficulty reaching the local office, but indicated that he would continue to try and call me back to confirm whether he was successful or not. About 2 hours after my initial call, I received a call from the local"on call" technician (Dan). He indicated that he was on a call, would not be able to service me that evening and that the soonest he could get to my home would be about 1-2:00 PM the next day. I explained my problem to him. He quoted me a price of approximately $243 (and $29.50 for each additional hour) .for the service I needed to check and clear my storm drain of "roots". He also indicated that he would confirm my appointment for the next day with his office.During the time I was unable to reach ARS, I contacted another company from the list and scheduled them for an estimate the next morning. Their estimates started at $650, but after reviewing the problem, we ended up at an estimated cost of between $250-$300. Since I already had the purchased the $200 coupon ( for $111) from Angie's List for ARS Rescue Rooter, I thought I already had a better deal with ARS. After the other company left, I called ARS to confirm the status of my appointment for that afternoon. To my shock and horror, the operator (Monique) tolled me that no appointment had been scheduled for me. I gave her the name of the stand by technician I spoke with the evening before. She put me on hold and came back to say that they were having trouble locating him. Ultimately, she was able to schedule an appointment for me for the same time. To make a long story short, ARS did not arrive until about 7:00 PM that evening. The technician charged me $529.50, classic "bait and switch". He also told me that my drain had collapsed and that I needed to schedule another appointment to have the line viewed with a camera to confirm where the break was located and to discuss repair estimates. It was cold and dark, my water was still backing up and I had already turned away the other contractor with a lower price. So I had to proceed at that point. I scheduled an appointment for two days later (12/26) at 10:00 AM. Per my first ARS technician, I was to view the camera and confirm the break along with the second technician. Of course, he calls the day of the appointment, request to move the appointment up to 8:30 AM, and by the time he knocks on my door he has already used the camera to confirm that my storm drain line was not broken. My first technician (Tony) got his pressurized hose stuck in my storm drain. I tried to assist him in getting it out, but we couldn't budge it. I went into the house while he made a call back to the office to discuss getting a camera that evening. About a 30 minutes later , he knock on the door with a bill and says "my line is running now" and that he was able to get the hose out by himself. At this point, since I didn't see the line with the camera, I'm not certain what the situation is. My line is running, thoug I'm not sure for how long or whether anything was left in there. My entire experience with this company was simply unpleasant, with the exception of the second receptionist I spoke with (Christina). We actually spoke so many times that we got on a first name basis. She was courteous and worked very hard to get a technician out to my home on the day of the original appointment. Aside from her efforts, I could not in all good conscious, recommend this company to my family, friends, acquaintances or the general public. Perhaps others have had better experiences with ARS, but my own left something to be desired.

It was fine. At first they didn't want to recognize the Angie's List deal. But I guess after the guy called his manager, they got it straight. But the work was fine. We had no problems with it, so everything was good. The guy that came out to do the service was OK, but he had a slight attitude. After he talked to his manager his attitude was a little bit different. I wasn't too crazy about him, but his work was fine.
