When I first read this review on our company, I was adamant that member confused us with another company. Specifically due to the comment that I threatened to sue her and/or pay her off to not write a negative review. We checked our database under name, address, and even checked our 2009 schedule and found nothing. It WAS then verified that member was our customer under her maiden name, and at a different address. I would ordinarily address a negative review with the fact that we are a good company, we all have bad days, we tried to please the customer by doing x, y or z, etc. etc. In this case, though, I don’t believe we did ANYTHING wrong, which I hope you will see when I lay out the nuts and bolts of this “experience” with member. Before I do so, though, I am compelled to address this character assassination that is being levied against me in this review. At no time have I ever done anything so absurd as to threaten to sue over a negative review, nor have I ever even considered “paying someone off” to sign a waiver as she claims. This alleged behavior goes against my core values as a business owner, much less as a human being. I could certainly write more words attempting to “prove” I am not the type of person portrayed in member's review, but I guess it simply comes down to who you decide to believe after reading both sides of this story. Our “experience” with member is as follows: • We moved her in April of 2008 in 2 hours with 2 movers and 1 truck, for a total price of $275.01 • In April of 2009 member requested an estimate from our company by filling out our online inventory form. Based on the inventory she provided to us, we provided her a written estimate of 4-5 hours for 2 movers & 1 truck at an estimated cost of $485 at the rate of $93/hr. • After getting other competitive quotes, member's fiancé negotiated our rate down to $72/hr. Since we were coming out of our slow period, we decided to accept this rate, and provided another written non-binding estimate of $375 at the discounted hourly rate. • The move was completed on 5/11/09 after 7.5 hours of moving, for a total cost of $612. The member’s refused to pay their bill, citing that the move took too long. • Immediately after the move, we had our movers compare what was on the inventory list provided by member, and what they actually moved. • Following is the list of items NOT included on member's inventory list that she provided to us, to determine our 4-5 hour estimate: WELL over the 12 boxes listed, tents, ski’s, shoes, lamps, “lots of small items”, 10 pictures, dog cages, mirrors, and computers. NONE of which was listed on our inventory form, for which we actually have fields for many of these items. • Keep in mind that member was moving out of Brewers Yard in the brewery district, where there was a LONG push and an elevator to get out. The addition of her move inventory was exacerbated by the conditions at the move origin. • After comparing what was provided to us by member, and what we actually moved, we felt pretty confident that our original 4-5 hour estimate could have easily turned in to 7.5 hours. • Based on the fact that we had seasoned movers on the member’s job, that the members acknowledged they did NOT include some items on their inventory, and the fact that they were already getting a 23% discount, we held firm on our price. After all of this, my impression of member is that she is a very vindictive individual who likes to “win” at all costs, even if it means being dishonest. I base this opinion on the fact that she was not forthright with us from the beginning with what she included in her inventory, and then somehow thought that we should still honor a price based on false and inaccurate information. She did win in negotiating down our rate, but she did not win in further gouging us for an even lower price. Her “not winning” has prompted her to conveniently forget some of the facts surrounding her move, as well as dreaming up some very damaging accusations against me personally. This may not be a particularly “politically correct” answer to this review, but it IS the truth – all opinions aside. At the end of all of this, member maybe did win, as she has damaged our rating on Angie’s List, as well as potentially damaged my reputation in this open forum.
