Installer did not show for appointment. When I called ADT, I was told they subcontracted the work to a local company and could not do anything about the appointment or charges at the central ADT customer service number. Transferred several times. Called local company and told the system was down and they couldn't verify appointment, reschedule or provide a refund, yet somehow with a "down system" the customer service rep knew my name (which I had not provided). She said my name temporarily popped up on her computer and then there were error messages. No manager available. No call back with apology. Untrustworthy security company!

While I was home, I had a break in and got the alarm. I tried to call them to ask some questions. It took forever to get to a live person. If I was having an emergency I could have been taken by the time someone came to the phone.

It wasn't a bad experience. I used them for three years. I stopped using them in April. It was $45 for monitoring on a monthly basis. I never had a problem.

When I called ADT monitoring services the first time, they told me that they were not receiving a signal from our alarm unit. They said I could trip the alarm myself and I would need to let the alarm continue for at least 60 seconds so that they could check the signal. It was 10:00 at night and my infant was sleeping so I passed. They told me to call back later, when it would be more convenient to trip the alarm. I called the next day after the same trouble code appeared on our display panel. Again I was told they were not receiving a signal from our unit. Again, they suggested I trip the alarm but after I expressed my concerns about doing so with my infant in the house, they said they would sent a technician to look at the unit instead. The earliest available date was 6 days away! I told them I could not even be at my house that day since I needed to be at work. I expressed to them that I was home alone while my husband was traveling and that I needed someone to look at my system sooner. They put me on hold with someone from scheduling. I was on hold for over 30 minutes! They person in scheduling was NOT able to get someone out sooner and since I could not get off work, the next available time that worked for me was over a week away! They said that would credit my bill for the service they could not provide me. The total time I was on the phone was over 45 minutes! I would much rather have my alarm working and feel safe at home alone with my infant than have my bill credited. Plus the occasional beeping from the trouble code was getting really annoying.

Since installation, approx. 9 months ago, I have had nothing but problems with ADT. The install was not good. They had to come back to add a signal booster. Cameras are continually down. calling for service is HORRIBLE! You are bounced around, put on hold and your call is often dropped. ADT is all about selling you an overpriced ineffective system, then putting you on a long-term contract. It's all about the money. The equipment is not very good, the computer based monitoring is time-consuming and is a poor interface. The worst aspect is the abysmal service. I will never recommend ADT. The Pulse system is over-hyped and not very good. A bad experience form the horrible, incompetent sales person and every service call thereafter.

If we have a problem, they answer right away. When we first had it installed, it was $99 and then we moved and they installed it at this house for free. They have been fine.

I left, and the alarm went off, ADT called and I told them not to call the police, they called my husband instead and because he wasn't home he said to dispatch the police. I called ADT again and told them I had told them first NOT to dispatch the police. Now the police are going to charge me $100 for the false alarm report after the 4th alarm. They are saying entering #3 is one command on their end and the instructions I have is another command. Obviously there is a technology miscommunication. They disregarded my command NOT to call the police, and now I'm stuck with an $100 fee that ADT is not willing to credit me so that I would even continue using their services. I have talked to 7 people at ADT and no one has been able to get me to a supervisor and they are telling me instead of cancelling they are putting my status as "disregard". I can't even cancel my services at this point.
Description of Work: On Tuesday, ADT installed the new cameras to my already existing system. It is now Friday.

I recently needed the batteries changed in the alarms and I was unaware that they had a service available where I could pay for a contract and have them come and change all the batteries for me. I called and talked to Dominique at ADT and I asked him to provide me with a contract so I could read it, see what it covered, and see if I would like this service. He told me they don’t have nor do they send out any kind of paperwork to read over. I could just purchase it and it would show up on my bill. I was not satisfied with the fact they can’t provide any kind of contract for me to read over.

I asked if I had to make a deposit and they said no. They had a guy come out to install the equipment. We installed the equipment to my satisfaction. We did have to buy more equipment. He then put the contract in front of me that, according to him, was supposed to be a one year contract. I told him I wanted to receive a bill every month and to not have automatic renewal. He told me I had to give him my checking account info even though I wasn’t going to do that option. Needless to say they refused to honor the paper bill and not the automatic renewal. After my year was up I leased my home and told them to cancel my account. They then told me the account was a 3 year contract. They wouldn’t let me out of the contract without paying them $749.00. They told me if I didn’t pay that they would send me to collections. They have been difficult to work with. I had him come back for a second visit because I wanted fire protection. Since he came out for a second visit, and didnt do it on the first visit, it was more than $1500 worth of equipment. It was over $400 extra per piece.

After shopping around, I found that the price ADT was charging me was higher than what other companies were offering. In fact, I received an upgraded system with a cell for the same price, with the rate locked in for 3 years with another company. I called ADT on 8/12/2013 to cancel my monitoring service and was told that it would take 30 days for the cancellation to take effect, so I would have to pay for service through 9/12/2013. Today, I received a bill for monitoring services through 10/15/2013. I called ADT and they an explanation for why they continue to send bills for services beyond 9/12/2013, although their systematic logistical problems seem dishonest on my end. I will not consider them in the future if I switch alarm companies again.
Description of Work: I was paying $42.69 per month for a landline system and monitoring of 3 doors with 2 glass breaks.

ADT apologizes for any confusion in this matter. We may have been able to assist on the monitoring fees; however, according to our documentation, she had already changed to a competitor when she called to cancel. The 30 day requirement for cancellation is included in the terms of the contract. Unfortunately, the automated billing process continues until that 30 days is over causing the extra bill. The charges she was billed in excess of the 9/12 cancellation date were reversed once the cancellation was fully processed. Therefore, she only paid for the services through 9/12/13, which was the end date of the account. If [member name removed] would have overpaid the account due to the last bill, it would have been refunded accordingly. We apologize for the confusion.

We responded to an ad in the paper that was supposed to be for a $99.00 installation package, an $850 value, for a new security system. The final cost ended up being much higher that what was advertised. The gentleman who came out was nice and knowledgeable, but I wish we had gotten a few more estimates. However, I am satisfied with the system we have.

I wanted a hardwired system but I got a wireless system instead. They do a good job of monitoring but they are pretty expensive on service calls and equipment.

Moved into a new house. Called ADT at the phone number they list on their website for new service. Was on hold for 15 minutes and was transferred three times. Came out and gave me an estimate to install a hybrid (wireless and wired) system for over $1,300. Decided to go with Frontpoint security. The sales rep emailed me to find out a status and I told him I went with another company. His reply was that when considering security for my family that cost was more important to me than service, and that he had never heard of Frontpoint. Really? Your going to insult me by saying I don't care about the security of my family and then tell me you have never heard of the number 1 ranked security company. How about just a polite, thank you for considering us and if it doesn't work out please give us a call. Also, they should do research on their competition. Frontpoint has an A rating on Angies list and I have yet to find a website that does not rank them # 1. So he was wrong. I did consider service and reputation in addition to cost. Wake up ADT, your scare tactics and insults don't work to gain business. It only makes you look bad and reinforce to me that I made the right decision to go with Frontpoint.

The system was in operation until last year when I was unhappy with the service and had the system taken out and hired another company. ADT had provided the equipment under a lean until I then owned it in 2009. Included was a cellular security system called TelguardTG4 that I wanted to deactivate so I can reuse it, but apparently only ADT can deactivate it since they activated it originally. They would not return my calls, so I then asked my current security system to call them about this and they still remained unresponsive. You cannot even get though to them on their phone, you instead get the monitor line and when they transfer you, it just keep ringing.

Customer Service was poor. Have been a ADT customer for 10 years. ADT drop the ball on this.
Description of Work: ADT was scheduled to install window sensers on 2/14/13. I was given a 12-5 window (rather a large time window). I took the day off from work. At 5:01 I called ADT because nobody had showed up or called. There rep at the call center said he saw where I was scheduled and said he would call dispatch. I waited on hold for 12 minutes and he came back and said dispatch said the tech would not be able to make it today. I said were they going to call me or what? He did not have a answer. I ask him if they were going to call to reschedule- he said he could do that. I said I was not taking another day off then he said I would like a Saturday date. I said yes. He put me on hold for 6 more min. When he came back he said he schedule a Saturday but not til March 2nd. I was a little upset at this point. I told him I would have to figure this out on my own. I got no apolgy for the missed appt- had I not called ADT I would still be thinking they were going to show up. This is still ongoing. I have had very few issues with ADT security system in 10 years .

Background: ADT began billing me not only for the monthly monitoring charges but also for the first of two installment charges for the system installation that it claims was not paid at the time the system was installed. This position was incredulous since the system would never have been installed had I not made the first payment at the time I signed the contract.- When I discovered this a few weeks after the system was installed, I informed the ADT billing office that I have bank records clearly indicating that two payments were made for the full amount due at the time the system was purchased and installed; however, the ADT billing office simple replied that they had no record of the $831.50 payment and could not help me. I waited several weeks to allow the ADT billing system to recognize the error and had to contact them again when my account was posted as "past due," "over due," etc. Only after repreated e-mails and phone calls to numerous ADT offices was the matter cleared up. Ultimately, the ADT personnel stepped up to the problem and resolved it; however, there could be better coordination between ADT offices when this type of situation arises.

I used them because they were installed in the house. I had a sensory issue that was triggering false alarms and this issue has happened twice and I get charged for them to come out. they guys looks at it and says "yeah, it was probably the air conditioner that set it off". and then he leaves. Because I don't have a service contract I get charged for that. I own this stuff, I have been paying on it so long that I own the equipment. I would have to have a service contract in order for them not to charge me when they come out. I will continue to use them because if not I would have to have it ripped out completely and a whole new system put in.

The primary reason for this rating is the horrendous time I'm having with customer service. While the salesman was here, ordering the entire set-up I wrote a check for the full amount. He CALLED in the routing number and account number, and amount, and then VOIDED the check (which I still have). Since the installation, I have been getting bills for the full amount. Repeated calls about the bank statement showing that ADT was paid the full amount on March 21, resulted in my having to ask the bank to FAX ADT proof of payment. That was done last week, and over the weekend (June 3) I received ANOTHER call. I called customer service , who said it would take a month for the fax to get recorded, but not to worry. 4 hours later I get YET ANOTHER phone call!! I wish I had never used ADT, and am considering having EVERYTHING removed, and starting over with a different company!
Description of Work: Service was replacement for security system on old windows and doors, after completely replacing windows in the house. Salesman was great, and installation people were good. The nightmare has been due to ADT's administrative incompetence, as detailed below.

We had problems with our phone line. Our system is old. We weren't getting very good results with the phone company and alarm system company, so we weren't sure if we were going to switch companies. It was actually the phone company that was the problem. We have had them for years. We had to do some upgrades. They were out here very quickly. They weren't putting us off at first; they were blaming it on the phone company. Overall, it was good.

I had called them to come out to provide an estimate for a home security company. A salesperson came who seemed very inexperienced (his sales presentation consisted of him showing me a Utube video on his iphone) His dress was overly casual and I felt like I was often leading the conversation. Prior to him leaving, I asked him for an estimate for basic alarm as well as security cameras. He quoted me a price, which he seemed to have been guessing at. I asked him to itemize it, which he finally did. I was unsure about his expertise so I requested another sales person come out. I told him what I was looking for and told him that I would like to leverage the existing hardware that existed. His quote included a whole new system and he seemed to ignore my my comments and concerns. Additionally, his quote was almost double what the initial salesperson quoted me. He came back for a second time to try to "normalize" his quote with those of the first person. He wasn't even close. Prior to ending the discussion, he began calling his manager for authorizations. In all, I felt like I was in the process of buying a used car. I ended up not going with them at all.
