Somewhat surprised with the estimate experience. Contacting the company and the scheduling was very polite and professional. The estimator arrived promptly and called in advance. However, am disappointed at the lack of suggestions as to areas that needed obvious repairs, and that I was pointing them out as opposed to the estimator pointing them out to me. Feel that the estimator should have had a sample of the leaf guard to show me and should have explained pricing on that product, how it is in stalled, do they offer different leaf guard products, etc. Estimator should have probably also checked my entire roof for other problems (there is a vent that is tilted). Disappointed that I was told to get a plumber to check and clear the drainage tile from the blocked downspout - even if they couldn't do the repair, the "check" is pretty simple. Exceedingly disappointed to get to the end of the estimate only to learn that the company has a $1,500.00 per job minimum! That should have been explained when I called to schedule the estimate. Also, it seemed somewhat dubious when he said he thought he could get me to the $1,500.00 per job minimum. No estimate has been sent as promised and nearly two weeks is a bit long for one to be sent. Not that I would have hired this company after this experience. I did not rate Quality or Professionalism as no work was performed.
Description of Work: Service Call for Estimate: Called company requesting estimate on gutter and drain pipe drainage problems. I explained in detail up front what services I thought I needed - check roof area / gutters / drainage tile) for improper water discharge. Scheduler was very polite and date for estimate was quickly scheduled. Estimator arrived timely. Showed estimator what I thought was the main the main problem (downspout blocked) and he got on ladder and verified that it was blocked. Asked if he could tell if there were other problem on that part of the roof as to drainage and he said no. Asked about getting the drainage pipe leading off of the blocked downspout also checked (and cleared, if necessary). He told me I would need to contact a plumber. Several other downspouts needed short extensions added due to ground pipe sinking over time - which I pointed out to him. Also asked if company could install bypass for a rain barrel - said the company didn't perform that service. After asking he stated he would check to see if they could do it. He recommended installing leaf guard along front gutter and short connected side gutter (the only gutters he visually checked). I directed his attention to the nails holding the gutter and asked about getting those re-secured. No recommendation s to whether better securing was needed. Was not shown any "product" for the leaf guard nor pricing. Estimator did very little in observing and pointing out obvious areas needing minor repairs (downspouts needing extensions, nails backing out), and aside from recommending installing a leaf guard for a small gutter area, no other recommendations. Near the end, the estimator mentioned something about a $1,500.00 per job minimum (a shock) and that he "thought" I had enough to get me to the $1,500.00 per job minimum. He entered my contact information on his electronic pad. I asked about getting a written estimate and was told yes, one would be sent. It's been almost two weeks and no estimate has been sent.

Thank you for the compliments on our scheduling department and how your appointment was scheduled and the fact that our field representative called ahead to confirm your appointment. I spoke with our representative and he expressed a little bit different version of the events stating that you didn’t think your downspout was clogged but once he set his ladder and inspected he noted that it was. We do advise homeowners to contact a plumber for underground clogged drains. I believe this is why he suggested the leaf guard product to help alleviate clog issues in the future. He did have a sample of the product in his vehicle but didn’t offer to show the sample since you had stated you were not interested in the product. We do not do rain barrel installations and I am sorry that you were not made aware of this upfront. He should have sent you a written estimate to back up his verbal estimate of the $1500 cost for gutter repairs and I apologize that he didn’t follow through with a written estimate too. I called Able several weeks ago to have our roof looked at. We received a call the following day saying they were backed up and would call back in a week. About three weeks later, I finally received a second call to get information about why we needed them to come out. I was then told a project manager would call me to schedule. It's been another two weeks and yet have not heard from the PM. Luckily, our issue was not urgent, but I am done waiting. We've used them before and they did a good job, but their lack of response just lost them a customer.

Due to recent storms we have experienced over 4,000 calls which is an unusually high volume of calls. We were logging information on forms, sorting them by zip codes and neighborhoods and handing them out to our estimating/inspection people and asking them to contact the consumer directly to schedule a time for the inspection as they were scheduling their days planned to be in various neighborhoods. Unfortunately this did not occur for this homeowner and I wish to extend my deepest apologies for the oversight. I presented this review to our sales management and asked them to share the comments so our field consultants are aware of how important every call is to both the consumer and our company and how everyone was let down due to the oversight. Though the roof was repaired three years ago by Able Roofing, and out of warranty, I still wanted to complain due to the following reason: Last month (July 2012), a strong wind ripped off the shingle that Able Roofing put in three years ago, caused water leaking. I called Able Roofing the second day, they told me that I had to wait for five days before they would be available. Afraid of more water coming into the house, I hired another company to repair for me. They found that the issue was due to a mistake make by Able Roofing workers when they did the work three years ago. Able Roofing workers nailed the shingles too high, not aligned with other shingles. If they had done correctly, we should not have encountered the leaking again three years later. I called Able Roof several days later complaining about their mistake and asked for money I paid the second company to repair Able Roof's mistake. Their response is that it is out of warranty, In addition, they would never pay for some work done by another company. I explained to them that I called Able Roof first. When they told me they would NOT be available for days, I had no choice but to have someone else fix the roof. Unfortunately, that does not make any difference to them. Here are my points: Able Roof did a bad quality job. The mistake they made led to water leaking three years later. I had not only taken half day off to repair the roof, but also paid $250 for the second repair. A reputable company shall treat their quality issue seriously, instead of ignoring it by using different excuse. I have the written claim from the second company suggesting that the mistake caused the leaking if Able Roofing wants some proof.
Description of Work: Our roof was ripped off by strong storm. Able roofing came and repaired the portion that was damaged.

Response from Able Roofing
3 years ago in 2009, Able provided a small patch repair on an improperly installed roof installed by another roofing company on this customer’s home and we provided a 90 day warranty for our workmanship. In July 2012 the customer called, said the roof was again leaking and appeared to be in the same area where it leaked 3 years ago and expected us to provide warranty service and right away. We explained first of all that recent storms in central Ohio had caused considerable damage to many homes from winds in excess of 65 miles per hour (shingle manufacturers typically warrant their shingles up to 65 mph) causing our service schedule to be backed up about five days or more due to the high volume of calls we were experiencing from the storms, that we would be happy to schedule a service call for him but the repair would be billable and reminded him that his warranty had expired 3 years ago. We had a manager follow up with a second phone call to the customer a week later to further explain. This customer is basing his accusations against our company on here say from a third party contractor. Able Roofing has been in business over 25 years in central Ohio, provides quality service and stands behind its work. This is clearly a case where a legitimate contractor gets a poor grade for unreasonable expectations of the home owner. Cheryl Cox, Marketing.

The first issue was that we had had the understanding that the work was being done by Able Roofing themselves. That was the point of hiring them in the first place. Instead, they subcontracted the work out to some unknown, unnamed entity with no reputation or background. Had I known they were not actually Able employees at the time, I would have told them to leave before they even started working. In the spring, when we started having run-off from the roof, we found that we had water coming down behind he gutters next to the eves - they had not installed a drip edge, they only replaced wood in one place they were supposed to - the one which was visible - and the gutters in the other area began to come loose from the eves, and the gutters were not properly angled to drain down the pipes and instead, had areas where the water pooled, over-flowed, warped the gutters, and pulled gutters further from the eves.Additionally, down spouts were not properly assembled or anchored to the walls. One of the bends from the eves to the wall became completely disconnected, having been improperly assembled so the water fell freely to the ground instead of going down the down spout. Unfortunately I could not even repair it myself as I didn't have a ladder tall enough. Another contractor examined the work and said that there were a number of items which were substandard: the lack of drip edge and the way the gutters were attached to the eves were two, the latter being the reason they were pulling from the eves so quickly and the first being the cause of water running down behind the gutters. I don't recall the others but there were a couple of more. We contacted Able and they sent a person out who examined the work and basically said "tough luck" and would not do anything to effect repairs.
Description of Work: Our eaves needed repair and the rain gutters replaced. This was done just as winter set in so it was not until spring that we had actual water drainage from the roof. Able was supposed to repair parts of the eves where wood was rotted so the gutters would not hold and then install new, seamless gutters. I

ABLE ROOFING has been in business for over 25 years with over 50,000 satisfied customers. Our customers know we stand behind our work and our warranty is second to none. We contracted to do Gutter & Downspout replacement work in 2004 for $1100.00, No wood replacement was included. Upon completion of the job the customer avoided returning our phone calls for several months in regards to the payment due. Only after our mention of turning their delinquent account over to a collection agency did we finally hear back from them. A payment plan was set up with a promise to pay, which was breeched by them numerous times. We ended up writing off a balance and placed their account on credit hold for any future work. 18 months after the work was completed they contacted us about additional work needed. We sent out a manager to meet with them, who took pictures of the work needed, and let the customer know what was required and the cost involved. We also informed them that if they contracted through us they would be required to pay off their outstanding balance due from the previous work done plus pay in full, up front, for any additional work. That is how things were left in 2006. Fast forward to now, 8 years later, and they are posting falsehoods and slanderous comments about our company. Cheryl Cox, Marketing

My wife and I could not be more pleased with our experience with Able and every one of the people from their company that we came in contact with over the process. We needed a new roof due to storm damage this spring. Able's representatives Jon, Josh and Jake were always available to answer our questions, explain our options and provide some of the best customer service we have experienced in a long time. They called us a number of times to explain things including scheduling the work. The roofing process itself took just over one day and their employees were courteous, hardworking and took care not to damage any of our plants, etc. They also thoroughly cleaned up both during and after the project. A few weeks after the job was over and we had paid the invoice, I had a question regarding the replacement of the gutter guards and how one small section of the roof just did not look right to me. Since their bill had been paid, I wondered ( just a bit ) if I would be getting the same great customer service. The answer was YES! Jake even offered to come out during the weekend to take a look. They sent out two of their people who adjusted the gutter guards and made sure everything else was correct. We highly recommend them and are very pleased to have selected them for to do our roof.
Description of Work: They removed the old roof and installed a new one on our house. The roof was quite large with a 45 degree pitch and had a number of issues that needed careful attention

It took a lot more time than I thought it would, but we had significant problems with weather. They seem very busy, so if i had a bad weather delay, it took some time to reschedule, but it finally got done and looks great. The lifetime shingle also gives me a discount with State Farm home owners insurance every single year!!! Some of their previous reviews discussed difficulty communicating with some of the workers, but I had no problems at all. Everytime I went out to check on things, someone always asked if I was pleased thus far and is there anything else I want them to do. We've had a ton of rain...and no leaks...so I think they did a really good job.
Description of Work: I had roof removed and replaced with a lifetime warranty roof, all gutters removed and replaced with gutter guards and all wood trim covered with aluminum so that my home no longer requires painting except for the exterior doors.

Thank you for taking the time to post a Straight A report regarding the Lifetime Warranted Thunder Guard Roof System we installed on your home. During the installation I was often on the roof watching the progress. Both the supervisor and the company representative were happy to explain any questions which I had. The workers always were hard at work. Everyone was always polite and responsive. The following day I walked around the house looking for additional roofing debris. I could fit all the debris in the palm of my hand it was so clean. We have had several hard rains since the new roof has been installed. No leaks! Will this roof last longer than the last? I don?t know, but if the attention to detail, the superior roofing materials and the lifetime shingle warranty are indicators, I am confident it will far exceed my expectations!
Description of Work: I am an extremely satisfied Able Roof customer. I have a large ranch home that has over 55 squares of roof area. The previous shingles were reportedly top of the line 40 year shingles. They failed after 15 years and I was beginning to get multiple roof leaks. I needed a full roof replacement quickly. I contacted Able Roofing and quickly received an on-site review of my roof. I found out that not only the shingles were bad but the installation had issues as well. The estimator showed me installation issues that opened the roof to probable leaking issues. He also recommended that part of my roof be covered with a rubber membrane instead of regular shingles sincemy roof a very low pitch that increased the likelihood of leaks as rain would not run off quickly enough. I was also shown a comparison of the Able shingle and my previous shingle. The Able shingle was rubberized and could be bent and twisted showing its strength and durability. My previous shingle broke when subjected to the same stress. After signing a contract, Able Roof contacted to set up installation dates. Due to the size of my roof they set aside two days to complete the work. They recommended that we might have wanted to make arrangements for any pets, especially dogs, to be elsewhere as roofing noises are sometimes disturbing to pets. Their crew arrived early in the morning on the established day with a trailer for roofing debris and all roofing materials. They asked about parking the trailer to make sure it would not be a bother to us during the day. They stripped the entire roof the first day and began to put on shingles. All the workers were very polite and quite focused on their work. They had a working supervisor that insured work was completed properly. Able also had a company representative that visited at critical times during the job to insure even more oversight. At the completion of the first day they asked if they could cover the chimney to prevent any leaks if it rained during the night. They were also concerned that covering the chimney might present us some problems, which pleased me. Prior to leaving for the day the supervisor asked if we needed the debris trailer moved away from the house that evening. This again was an example of how the company was polite and trying to be conscious of the needs of the homeowner. The crew arrived early the next day during a heavy rain. The work was postponed until the following day. On that day the crew again arrived early, prepared to work. Work was difficult that day due to cold temperatures and high winds. The crew worked hard installing new roof vents and “smart vents”, vents at the edge of the roof line to insure proper ventilation (used in addition to any soffit vents present on the home that may have been blocked when additional insulation was added). The company representative again came to discuss how the rubber membrane was to be placed to insure the best results. The majority of the roof was completed that day. Prior to departure that evening, the crew walked the yard to remove any old roof materials as they had done the previous work day. On the third day a small crew came to finish the flashing around the chimney. The crew again walked the property to remove any roof material.

We'd only owned our current house a few months before a few days of steady rain revealed an issue with water intrusion. A call to Able's emergency line yielded results within a half hour in the form of a call back. Due to overwhelming issues that night, they weren't able to come out immediately and I did have to call back the next day to get an appointment scheduled. It was about a week before they were able to get to my house but when the tech did arrive, we were very happy with how he assessed the situation and set out remedying our issue. Able is a high volume service provider so you might have to be patient if you decide to use their services but I feel very confident in the quality and professionalism they provide.

They called before they came. Quickly determined the issue and then fixed it. Very nice and professional.
Description of Work: Had some leaking inside on vaulted ceiling which they found and repaired the issue plus checked the roof for other nails creating the problem and caulked a few spots by the chimney which they did on their own!

Your repair work was completed by one of our Same Day Service team members. SDS was developed to diagnose repair issues on the spot, report the findings to the home owner, and the option to have the work completed the same day. Thanks for your input and the straight A grade for our performance. Cheryl Cox, Director, Marketing

No issue; I'm not sure I would have even known they were here except for the note left handing on my mailbox. Roof looks great; guess the winter will tell as far as the quality of work up there. Only thing I'm still waiting on is an itemized statement so that I can use the cost of the insulation for tax purposes; requested it about a month ago and haven't received it .. will have to followup.
Description of Work: removed two layers of roof and replaced with a new roof; blew insulation into second floor attic space.

Did not clean up very well at all - my husband found/picked up nails in the yard weeks after work was done. Sales rep lied and told us they'd use a 'metal detector' to grab all nails/metal pieces. This did not happen. On one roof workers trimmed by using SCRAP pieces of edging - loooked totally like CRAP! My husband was NOT pleased. Project Mgr finally showed up for appt to check out all the work. He ended up having another 2-guy team to take off the mismatched edging and re-do. Cleaned up entire jobsite that first set of workers neglected to do. After 2nd set of workers completed job, Project Mgr never did call us to find out if we were satisfied. Before work was done to our satisfaction, someone from company called about us making final payment. We refused & told him why. Weeks after work was finally completed we figured we were not going to see Project Mgr again so we RELUCTANTLY made final payment. Horrible work experince from start to finish! I highly DO NOT recommend ABLE Roofing to anyone - never will either. NEVER will have this company on my property again! New entry on Oct 20, 2011 to further indicate WHY NO ONE SHOULD DO BUSINESS WITH ABLE ROOF: After this roofing job the the 2 fly-by-night sub contractors did, last night Oct 19, 2011 I checked on the new rubber roof that they installed only to find IT'S LEAKING!!!!! Mind you, this job took place only 1 - 1.5 months ago to the tune of $2000.00. Is my husband and I happy about this? You've got to be kidding! I update my overall grade of "F" to "FF" at this point!
Description of Work: sales rep was punctual. Either does not know exactly what the company does/offer, or he flat out lied about some things that we fully expected to happen. For as small as this job was, it cost us $2000.00 - sales rep asked for $1000.00 at sigining of contract. This company is ALL subcontractors - sales rep lied about this. Had we known we NEVER would have had these yahoos come near our home. We had two very small roofs that needed to be re-done. Subs came (don't know if they were on timeo r not as they arrived on a workday for hubby & me so we really had no idea when they got to jobsite). Workers did not have anything on (uniform-wise) and n o work IDs so they could have been any joe off the street and acted the part too.

Their job coordinator came out and walked us through the entire process. He setup the meeting with our insurance company (Allstate) and we ended up getting the entire job done for free. Work was completed with two weeks and that was quite the feat considering all of the storm damage in the area. Their workers were fast and cleaned up very nicely. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: We had heavy hail damage and they replaced our entire roof.

We appreciate your input regarding how the process works when a homeowner has storm damage. Our estimating team is focused on how to work with insurance companies to make the process easier for the adjuster and providing a better outcome for the homeowner. In most cases we try to install a new roof in 1 DAY to minimize any inconvenience to our customers. Cheryl Cox, Director, Marketing

They did a fantastic job. It took them 3 months before they could get to it because we had a bad storm in our town. They did the job in 1 day! The only thing we had a problem with was when the estimator I told them that I can't pay over what my insurance would pay. It didn't quite work out that way. It took a while to clear it up because that estimator didn't work for them any more. The vice president came out and I told him that the estimator agreed to what State Farm. The Vice President cleared it up immediately for me. I had a leak and they fixed it very quickly for me.
Description of Work: They put on a brand new roof.

Thank you for your response regarding the new roof you had installed due to storm damage on your home and the fact that we installed the new roof in 1 DAY! Please accept our apology in the miscommunication on our estimators part regarding the settlement payment from the insurance company. As you stated, one of our VP’s followed up and took care of the loose ends. Cheryl Cox, Director, Marketing.
