614 Exteriors

I want to begin this review by saying that I am not a customer of this business, but did have them provide a quote for new roof and gutters on my house last week. My review is of the quoting process itself, and the intense pressure, verbal abuse and attempts to shame me into filing a claim with my homeowner's insurance company to replace my almost 30 year old roof. I knew that my roof was old and needed to be replaced, and I have had several companies provide quotes during the past two months. Pricing varied widely between the other 3 quotes I had gotten, so I wanted one more. I contacted 614 Exteriors as a result of a search of providers in my area, and they called me promptly. The owner himself, Keith, came to my house the following day and climbed up on my roof. He agreed that the roof was bad, and we discussed the potential replacement. It was a pleasant conversation, and then he mentioned that we could maybe make an insurance claim and have my homeowner's insurance pay to replace the roof. I said I would think it over, as I really had some serious misgivings about trying something like that. The roof was old, and I really didn't feel that the claim would be successful. Keith assured me that he had someone on staff who fought with the insurance companies all the time, blah blah blah. Keith said he would go back to his office and get a quote together, and he would email it along with pictures of my roof that he had taken by the following morning. That was Tuesday afternoon. By Friday morning, I still hadn't heard from anyone or received a quote, so I sent them a message asking if they were going to send me a quote. Within 5 minutes, the office manager called me and said she would get the quote together, and asked "this is an insurance claim, right?" I said, no, that I had thought it over and felt it wasn't the right thing for me to do. She said ok, and that she would have the quote to me later that day. We hung up, and within 10 minutes, Keith called me back and said that he couldn't believe I would not want to file an insurance claim, and that he would initiate a 3 way phone call with him, my insurer and me and then get my permission to take over the claim once I told them I wanted to do it. I said no. He then wanted to know "why not?" "who told you it wasn't right to do it this way?", all the while getting louder and louder until he was literally shouting into the phone at me. He then said that I must be "easily influenced by things I read and hear", and that he had thought I was an intelligent person, but he must have been wrong. Then he claimed I had "storm damage" to my roof (I don't, it is old). Then he asked (shouting), "do you work for your insurer, because you act like you work for them, since you want to protect them and not yourself!!!" I said no, I just want a quote for my roof. At this point, I was crushed, insulted, and stunned that anyone who might want my business would speak to me that way. I am still in shock over the whole thing, honestly. I am a senior aged female, and really just want to be treated with respect. To end the story, they did send me a quote later that day (no pictures of my roof were included, though). The really sad thing here is that I would have signed with 614 Exteriors, as their quoted price for roof and gutters was great. At this point, however, I would climb up there and replace it myself before I would give this company and its obnoxious, abusive owner my business. Please beware of this company if you don't plan to file an insurance claim, as there is obviously something in it for them that I really want no part of.
