Im writing this in hopes no one will make the same mistake we did and use this "company". So we did nearly our whole wood floor project ourselves from installing to sanding and staining, the floors looked great! We did run into a problem when we did the polyurethane ourselves, when it dried it had bubbles in it, so we decided lets just have a professional do it (we want to move in!), so we got ahold of this company, and dan came out and looked at it and said he could fix the bubbles, with a screen sand and another coat of polyurethane. He said it would be done in 1 day! Sounded great! So we paid him half, the other half pending us liking the floors. When we went out to look at the floors there was still bubbles all over, maybe 25% better.... he agreed and said he would come back and resand with a lower grit and recoat. This should of been a red flag right here, but I try and give people the benefit of the doubt. Well we went and looked at it after and it was worse than we started... you can see circular scratch marks throughout the whole thing, and there is now three spots one of them quite large where he went into the stain.....so i called him told him i wasnt happy and i was going to go with someone else and he got defensive said he was going to take me to court, and that he has a daughter to take care of, he then changed his demeanor and insisted on fixing it to make it right and said he would screen sand it again and re coat it with polyurethane, and that he had an "idea" of how to fix the spots the stain is missing....... he said pay him the $200 now and then if we like it give him the rest and if we dont then we're done we call it even. so we gave him the check........... he cashed it...... now he wont anwer my calls, respond to my messages or texts.......im highly disappointed in the outcome of this whole situation and his behavior. I would NOT recommend this "company".

The service was terrible! First he had an equipment problem, the initial timing took longer than indicated. Five days of no show, his sanders broke down. Once he got started there were a couple of no shows, but he did call. He finally completed the sanding, but I noticed a couple of problems. He stained and apply the polyurethane. I paid him the second payment to do the molding and moving the furniture back but haven't heard from him. He's left me with partial completion. I have to do the molding down and paint it myself. I also have to figure out how to move my furniture from garage into the house. There's also an additional area in the other room that has some water damage and he was going to refinish the small area when he did the molding which was part of the original contract. He's not answering or returning calls.

Would never use this company again or recommend them. I asked before starting about filling the staples holes that were left from the carpeting that use to be there. He said that he does fill the holes but after sanding on polyurethane you would not notice them. That was a lie and there is nothing to do now. His workers got polyurethane on 3 different spots on the wall, each about a foot long. These were freshly painted walls. I not have to sand and repaint. They ran the sander into the door molding and messed up the paint there. Again will have to repaint. There was a small piece of phone cord near the floor. They just put polyurethane over it so it is now stuck to the floor. There were dirty marks all over the walls. Luckily these washed off. This is a vacant house. On several occasions we went in the evening to check on the progress and they has the air conditioning down to about 61 degrees. They left all of the garbage at the house for us to deal with. I thought I was hiring a professional company but found that they were not.

Upon signing the contract I was told it would take 3-5 days. I said that was extremely ambitious and stated that it could not be completed within that time due to the number of repairs and areas of replacement. Oh no, I was told, 3-5 days. I said I would allow 30 days and for every day thereafter, I would deduct $100 from the balance. OK. Agreed. I gave a 50% deposit and 2 weeks went by before anyone showed up to the job site. The first day when they (workers - no "boss") did show up, I had other contractors there doing outside work, the flooring guys sat in the driveway for 2 hours waiting for the "boss". Same thing the next day. My contractors said that he had the key and would let them in as he would be on the property for the next several hours. Well, this became the regular, for the flooring guys to gain access by my other contractors as the "boss" was continuously absent, and never there when he told his workers to meet him there. One area of flooring was removed (approx 6' x 8') and the new flooring was being laid, my contractor asked the floor guys why the flooring was not being nailed. The flooring guys said they were planning on face-nailing it once it was completely laid. My contractor called me, I call the "boss" and said that told them that they were NOT going to do any face-nailing. When I got to my property, the "boss" was there and I was informed that the 2 flooring guys had been fired (although they were doing as instructed- he fired them to make it look like they chose to lay the floor without nailing). Days went by without ANY activity or work being done. Then I was informed that the "boss" was leaving for Las Vegas 6 days before my job was supposed to be completed! (the repairs were not even completed yet)! He assured me that he had his "best" guy to complete it and the job would be completed within the 30 days I allowed, not the 3-5 days I was told initially. Long story short, I have just sued him in Court. And, he did not appear to defend his work. The floors were NOT filled as I requested and now have clear coat in the cracks so I can never have them filled. It was obvious that it needed more coats of the finish coat as you could see in the reflection, the wood grain was not totally covered. The new flooring to the existing flooring did NOT match but I was never advised (until after the fact) that I needed to add a stain coat to get some consistency. A few days later, his "best" guy informed him in Las Vegas that the job was done (3 days past the time I allowed, not the 3-5 he initially told me) and he immediately started blowing up my phone to get paid. It was too early to even walk on it to inspect as his guy was only finished for 4 hours, but he wanted to get paid. I ignored his calls as I was taking care of another property and had a few days to finish up so I just figured that I would allow the floors to cure before I walked on them. I waited a long time to get this floors refinished, so I can wait a few more days for cure time to see these floors. He not only continued to blow up my phone but my contractor's phone as well. He expressed to my contractor (whom has been on the job for me for 25+ years) that he was afraid that he was not going to get paid, and she better pay me, blah, blah, blah, and I did the work and if I don't get paid, heads are going to roll kinda of talk! Well, I finally after two days of his "best" guy finishing the job, I went to the property to see the floors. I could not believe what I saw! I call the "boss" immediately in Las Vegas and told him that I NOT at all satisfied. Plus, all the debris and trash from the job was still there, and they spilled the clear coat all over my back porch!!! Didn't even attempt to wipe it up! Big blobs of clear coat. The livingroom is 64' and from one end to the other I could see serious dips in the floor. Not in areas where you would expect wear but throughout the entire livingroom (the original floors were in great shape other than my having replaced 32" doors with 36" doors, and the previous owner's were cat rescue people and allowed that cats every freedom as to where to go to the bathroom. This house was built in the 60's the floors were in excellent shape structurally- until the "best" guy got to them with a sander). So... he said that he would get his "best" guy on the phone and have him come over and take out the trash. His "best" guy did in fact, show up. He was the only person that did the finish part of the job. I walked him through to show him what my complaints were. He totally agreed with everything I pointed out. He informed me of a few things of interest: # 1. The reason why my new planks were not being nailed down as they were being laid was the "boss" did not provide a nailer as his nailer was on a job in Port Huron where a home owner ordered the project stopped and would not return his tools, #2. The "boss" did not provide filler for the floors so consequently the floors didn't get filled, #3. The "boss" never did a walk through with his "best" guy and merely gave instruction off-site. I felt sorry for this "best" guy as he had not been paid from a previous job so was really relying on me paying the "boss" so he could get paid for my job in addition to the other. I did give the guy $100. He was nearly in tears knowing that he was NOT going to get paid as I was no way going to settle up with the "boss" while he was away and not available to address these issues. The "boss" called me a few times over the next week demanding money, and offering to do a complete redo BUT, I had to pay him the balance due before he would even come to the job site to inspect his work. DO NOT left this guy near your house!!!! Big Zero!!!!

The job was estimated to take 7 - 10 days. Dan and his crew were here just shy of three weeks. We paid him $3600 up front - that turned out to be a mistake. Dan would show up at about 10:30 each day and leave by 2:30 - 3;00 with a lunch break in-between. The crew took eleven working days to sand and ready the floor for finishing. On the twelfth day the floor was stained. Already problems were evident: uneven staining, slop on molding and cabinets, etc. On the thirteenth day Dan applied all three coats of polyurethane finish. The results were disastrous. Dan proudly took me on a walk-through and as I pointed out numerous problems he assured me that he could fix each easily. I was flabbergasted at how awful the job was but gave him a check for some of the balance just to get him out of the house. Dan promised to be back Tuesday of the following week to do the fixes he claimed were possible. He took all of his equipment home that day leading me to conclude that I would probably not see him on Tuesday. My wife arrived home from work shortly thereafter and concurred that the job was horrendous. We stopped payment on the check. After exchanging a single text we have not heard from Dan again though I notified him several times as to what we were going to have to do to fix the job and asking for a partial refund. My wife contacted the owner of a very reputable flooring company and he inspected Dan's job the next day. He agreed that the job was unacceptable and that the only way to fix it would be to strip the floor back down to bare wood and redo entirely the staining and finishing. We secured his services, the job was done in four days and looks great. This cost another $2550 bringing my total expense, including the $3600 given to Dan Hess, to $6150 for a job originally quoted at $4600. We are in the process of suing Dan Hess in small claims court for the $1550 excess.

Very unprofessional, late everyday, marked up my walls and put 3 coats on in one day and dried terrible, very gritty and sticky, gonna have to redo the whole flooring again. Also broke my toilet putting it back on. Couldn't wait to get done early so he can run to the bank and cash my check. Would not recommend these people. Also dust all over my furniture took 2 days to clean. So very upset. RUN FROM THESE PEOPLE.

The crew started a few days after the agreed on date and took several days longer than originally stated. This was not a major problem and I understand that this happens often in the construction trades. During my conversations with Dan when he did the estimate, I discussed what needed to be done to prepare for his crew to begin to work. We specifically discussed removing the shoe moldings to avoid damage to them. He assured me that this was not necessary. While sanding the floors, the sander ran into every wall in my living room and hallway, leaving a black mark on my walls around the entire perimeter of the floor. The black ring was also left on my base molding and shoe molding, as well as the ballusters on my balcony. The sander went on to my tile and damaged it. A large gouge was left in a threshold molding. It almost looked like they tried not to run into the walls in the living room and hallways, but they used no care at all inside the closets, where the damage was much worse. The craftsmanship used to replace the damaged floor planks was comparable to a butcher. Large gaps were left and filled with what looked like at least a quart of putty. Joints were within 6 inches of each other. During refinishing a can of polyurethane was left on a wood bench I had just built in my mud room, leaving a ring for me to repair. Dan finished the job on 11/14/15 (Friday) and called me and my wife 5 times before noon the following day asking to be paid. I discussed the damage that needed to be fixed and he assured me he would be there Monday to take care of it. Foolishly I agreed to pay him because he told me his people would go without paychecks if I didn't. Predictably Dan called Monday morning to say he couldn't make it and promised me Tuesday. This also came and went with no contact, despite several text messages from my wife that were never responded to. Dan never made any attempt to fix the damage to my home caused by him and his workers. I replaced several pieces of molding (including a custom threshold) and had to apply two coats of paint to the ballusters and moldings throughout the area he worked in. I still need to repaint several walls. Dan easily did $1500 damage to my home. On top of this, the area he "repaired" is coming apart and gaps are showing where the putty has shrunk. I will likely have to redo everything that Dan was paid to do. I thought I hired a professional floor repair service but instead I got a demolition crew.

I hired them on Friday, 8/29/2014, Dan said the repair and refinishing would take 4-5 days. He said they would be there Monday, September 1st. On Monday Dan came but did not realize it was Labor Day and he did not have all the supplies that he needed to start sanding or do the repair. So he had one of his workers, Troy, start the repair in the dining room. He worked on it for a few hours and left. On Tuesday Dan and his crew went to get the supplies that they needed and did not get to my house until the afternoon. The next day Troy was there and finished up the repair and they started sanding. They could not match up the flooring to flow from the dining room into the living room so they were going to put a threshold down. Dan brought the threshold and nailed it down but it was not level and was not as wide as the doorway. Troy took it up and sanded the floors so it would lay flatter. But when he nailed it back down it cracked, and now it had more holes in it from the nails, it did not look good. So Dan took it back up and would get me another one. They put three coats of polyurethane down but the floor still had dry-looking areas and you could see where the sander left marks all along the wall in the kitchen and dining room. They did not sand under the cabinets and it looked dirty from the old finish. Dan said he would return because he still had the new threshold to put down. I called him for three weeks or more and he never returned my phone calls. I finally went to the address on the work order and spoke with Dan's father about my floors and the lack of communication from him. His dad called him up right there and Dan agreed to come over that night to look at the floors. He came over and looked at the floors and agreed to redo them. He said he had his daughter for the upcoming weekend so I agreed to let him start the next weekend. I moved all my furniture back out of the rooms and I never heard from him all week and finally had to call his dad and then Dan called and said his equipment was locked up in a house that he is doing and the lady left town for the weekend and he didn't have a key to get it. I told him I needed to get my furniture back in the house because now it is late October and my good furniture was on the front porch and the added stress of having my house in disarray with everything stacked in the sun room and back bedroom where I work from home and can hardly walk to my desk. He had two other employees, Jed and Mark, come that week and say that the floors looked terrible and they were going to re-sand and do the job right. They only worked on my floors for a day and a-half and left and went to another job site without telling me they were not returning that day. I thought they had went to lunch. No one returned for several days and Dan did not keep me informed on what was going on and when someone would be returning. Finally Jed returned on Saturday and was surprised the floors weren't finished. He worked on them and came back the following week to finish the sanding and coat the floor with the polyurethane. They did not vacuum the floor before laying down the polyurethane and there was dust, dirt, grass and hair under the coat of polyurethane. Dan came back after I called him several times to tell him the floors looked terrible and the sanding in front of the refrigerator was very uneven and looked terrible. Dan returned on the weekend with his daughter to re-sand and smooth the floors again. He finally put a new threshold down between the dining room and living room. There was also a puddle of polyurethane in the hallway that had to be fixed and you could see swirl marks from the sanding in the finish. After he put the coat of polyurethane down and it dried, he missed a big area in the hallway. He came back on Sunday to put the last coat of polyurethane down and again, his vacuum did not pick up hardly any of the dust and debris on the floors. I got my shop vac out and went behind his daughter to sweep up as much of the dirt as I could. I am not happy with my floors, the sanding is very uneven and the floor has junk under the finish and it took 11 weeks to get him to finish the job. I just wanted to get my house back in order, my good furniture off of the front porch as it had been cold and raining during the time it was outside. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
