Tom's Furniture Repair

Furniture Refinishing and Repair

About us

Refinishing antiques and older furniture is gaining in popularity. Fixing a broken chair instead of throwing it out is more "GREEN" these days. Re-using older office furniture instead of replacing with expensive imported metal or plastic is now becoming a trend. The throw-away mentality of the 1990's and the 2000's is being replaced by traditional values. Values such as repairing, caring/maintaining, and passing on quality furniture to the next generation. Tom's Furniture.net, owned and operated by Tom Knezevic, is in the business of keeping tradition alive. Refinishing your parent's or grandparent's dining set is not only worth the money, but more often than not a better value than buying the expensive junk furniture that is being peddled in stores today. And Tom knows because he is the one who fixes this furniture. Broken table legs, crushed fiberboard corners, snapped off lag bolts in particle board, foggy, dull heavy finishes from China, popped veneers on Egyptian imports---the list of quality issues affecting modern furniture are numerous.

He did a beautiful job. The chairs look like new, the seats are firm with caning that no longer sags. He called me as soon as they were ready.

I was looking to refinish my front door (105 years old with multiple levels of stain and paint). Tom's Furniture was recommended to me. Ken was very professional, explained the process, and updated me on his work. The end result was excellent. See the before and after photographs below. Highly recommend.

Excellent experience. I worked with Ken to drop off the chair (a cherry Queen Anne dining room chair) whose curved front leg had been snapped off. He clearly described the best-possible condition of the repair and had it ready a week later, as promised. The repaired chair does have a visible scar (as Ken warned there would be) where the leg was reattached but it's only visible from the back of the chair. The new finish and filling are nearly impossible to tell from the original and the front of the chair looks perfect. Excellent work.

Description of Work: We had a fairly large Arhaus chair (out of warranty) that needed the springs repaired within the frame. We were able to drop off and pick up the chair. Tom was very responsive and had the chair repaired within a couple of days, which to us, was great since it was right before the holidays. Definitely would use again!

We required repair on two items: 1. a heavy, solid wood entertainment center door in which the screw had snapped off in the hinge. 2. a particleboard armoire door in which the hinge had snapped off. Richard visited us twice to complete the work. He came early/on time both times. During the first visit, he repaired the entertainment center door and examined the armoire door. He took the armoire door with him to repair/replace the hinge, and returned it a few days later, fully repaired. So far, the repairs are holding up and the wife is happy she can close her armoire again! I even received advice as to where I could obtain new door handles for our bedroom furniture. I feel I received more than what I paid for. Would use again.

Description of Work: They completely refinished a mahogany buffet, dining room claw food table, 8 chairs, and another side table. |Tom hires workers who in my book are master craftsman, experienced and committed to excellence. I was more than pleased the results. One approach Tom took that I think guaranteed satisfaction was to let me know where they were with their progress and allow me to check in at any step in the process. Though I had no concerns, the opportunity was there to voice them if I did.

Description of Work: Touched-up 3 Hitchcock wood chairs and repaired a rocker. Also refinished a set of 4 solid wood kitchen chairs. Repaired a small cane rocker as well. | |We were very satisfied with the effort and results. We were there on 3 different Saturdays during the fall and he seemed to have a stream of returning customers doing a wide variety of work for them, not just chairs. He does wood door refinishing too.

I dropped off and picked up my table from the shop. The job was done when I was told it would be, and it looks very nice. Tom also touched up some areas on the base as a courtesy. I picked up the table and brought the table home for my son to put the legs back on in the dining room. This table was very heavy to move when it was completely assembled. He had difficulty with this so I called Tom and took the table back to the shop. Tom and his helper completed the assembly for me and then helped me load the table into the car. I am very satisfied with how the table works and how it looks, I am planning to use him again for the next project when I am ready.
Description of Work: Repaired damaged veneer, refinished and fixed the top of my mahogany veneer dining room table with 2 leaves. Tom had to move the sliders to complete the repair, my guys had moved the table without collapsing it, and one part of the table was completely dis-attached from the base.

The chairs look PERFECT side-by-side!! The work is of very high quality and was completed quickly. Their shop is extremely responsive and they have extensive professional knowledge. The cost of the service was on target with the original estimate and very fair for the work that was being completed. I highly recommend Tom's Furniture Repair!
Description of Work: I took to two chairs purchased at a resale shop to Tom's shop for repair and reupholstery. They are good solid chairs that were in poor condition. Tom took them apart and reglued/strengthened all joints, cleaned and refinished the wood frames and reupholstered the chair backs, seats and arms. I had a very specific vision for how I wanted the fabric to look (railroaded with double-welt), with the positioning of the stripes identically aligned on the two chairs.

I wanted an old table with 4 chairs refinished. Tom suggested removing the finish from one chair, then deciding how to proceed. The chair came out great looking with the old finish removed. I had the remaining chairs and table delivered to him for all to be striped. When the finish was off, I went to his shop to choose a new finish. By the way, I expected the wood to be all oak. Tom pointed out which wood was which and why it took the stain and original paint the way it did. I would have to say Tom is a guy who knows and enjoys his work. Within a week he had the entire job done. He also had connections with a delivery person, who brought the finished items to my home. The furniture is great looking. I had it in my basement for 28 years, and before then it was in my Grandmother's basement, waiting for somebody to take the trouble to throw it away. I don't think the price was expensive as such things go, since I now have an antique, family owned, solid oak and maple dining table with leaf and chairs. Tom's connection with the delivery people was also valuable. They, like Tom, did a great job. Thank you all!!!
Description of Work: Removed finish from an oak chair. We evaluated how good refinishing would be, agreed it would be very nice. Tom and his crew proceeded with refinishing of four chairs and one table including a leaf.

I talked to Tom over the phone and discussed the job and ballpark cost. I then took the headboard to his shop where he looked at the piece carefully and we discussed the best way to do the job to maintain structural integrity. He then was able to give me a better quote. He had the job finished ahead of schedule and did a very good job. He does not deliver himself but referred me to a delivery service that was quite reasonable. I was so pleased with the service I received and the quality of the work. He knows what he's doing for sure. I wouldn't hesitate to use his services again. A note: Tom does not accept credit cards only check or cash.

FABULOUS!! See full details above
Description of Work: I purchased a nice size and decorative wood cabinet from a friend. It was cute and painted light lime green. It needed some work and I intended to paint it another color and use in our enclosed porch. I had it delivered to my home and put in the basement. I looked at it more carefully a few weeks later and notice that there was dark wood under some of the areas that had the painted chipped off. There were several coats of paint on the cabinet. I knew it would take lots of time and money to strip it myself. I knew it was too much work for me to do. So, I looked on the Internet and found several furniture strippers. It was fortunate that I found Tom's Furniture.net on line. "Toms Furniture Repair". I looked at the site and liked what he was saying. I called his phone number and left my name and number. Tom called me back and we talked about the cabinet. He gave me an idea of about how much it would cost to strip. I wasn't sure how I would get the cabinet to Tom's shop in Cleveland. He said he had a guy that would pick it up and gave me the number to call him. That was easy and done within a few days. Tom called me to say he had the cabinet and he would call me when it was done. He did that. I asked him if it needed to be stained or needed anything more done to it. He said it was very nice and I should come to the shop to see it and decide if it was okay the way it was, or if I wanted anything more done to the cabinet. We went to Tom's shop to see the table and it was beautiful. I was shocked at the difference. He had taken it all apart (even took the glass fronts out) and we knew that we had a lovely piece of antique furniture that should be completed to make perfect. That was done and it was delivered to our home. This cabinet is in perfect condition, restored to museum quality, and I will probabaly have it appraised to find out how old it is and where it might be from. The cabinet is walnut, all the intricate designs and even the shelves and back of the cabinet are beautiful wood. Tom is an artist. His costs were very good. We paid $200 to have it stripped and $350 more to have it stained and finished. I am so pleased and feel very lucky to have found him. I am now looking at other pieces of antique furniture that we have, and thinking about getting some of those restored too. Marilyn McCullar, Shaker Heights, OH

One week after we took the table to Tom he called to say it was finished and ready for pick up. I am more than thrilled at the outcome! Tom repaired the table so well that the repairs are well nigh invisible. He also cleaned the table beautifully. Even though I had just polished the table days before it got damaged, Tom worked magic on it - the table looks MUCH better now than it did before. I am delighted and very grateful.
Description of Work: Two legs of a small antique table broke near the bottom of the legs. The legs had been broken and repaired previously by a different shop. The table is unusual and has sentimental value, so I hoped I could find a good craftsman to repair it. I consulted Angie's List for recommendations and saw that Tom's Furniture Repair was rated highly. I called Tom, explained the repair, and he advised that we bring the table to his shop for him to assess it.

I took him 8-10 faces t a time for refinishing, each time I dropped some off I picked up a completed batch. Tom contacted me when the next batch was complete and they ALL ALWAYS matched the previous one. Very good job!
Description of Work: Tom has always done our furniture refinishing, this summer and fall I took all my kitchen cabinet/drawer faces for refinishing. As usual the work was excellent and the cost was very good...much cheaper than replacing every cabinet in the house!

I called and left a message describing the dimensions and the existing condition of the table top. Tom called me back the same day, and he was very direct and descriptive in explaining what he would need to do, the cost and approximately how long it would take to have it finished. I dropped the table top off the next day. He had it sanded and finished in less than a week. Another person had quoted me $500, and I doubt that he would have done nearly as beautiful a job as Tom did. Outstanding service and flawless craftsmanship, not to mention uncommon professionalism and kindness; all of this and more describe my experience with Tom's Furniture Repair. I would not hesitate to refer other people to him, and I will certainly call him again if needed.
