Ended up not needing a mortgage. If I would have needed one would definitely want to work through them.

That's the company we went with and we really didn't know anybody. My son was with them so he kind of steered us there. We were able to lower our rates about a year and a half ago and this time it didn't work simply because our neighborhood is very stable, so getting comparable bids for houses was tough because they couldn't get too many from our neighborhood. I think they felt bad because they couldn't judge us on what we had since it's an older neighborhood.

I checked with several lenders, and Third Federal beat all their rates. Worked with Cheryl Nash at the Mentor office. She made the mortgage process fast and easy. I would recommend her and this lender to friends.

The loan application process was fast and painless. It took only one week for my loan to be approved.

We recently got a consolidation loan, and my husband was given a payoff amount by a customer service rep. A check was sent to 3rd Fed in the quoted amount. Two days later we got a call requesting additional money, and were told that the customer service rep. "wasn't permitted to quote a payoff." We paid the small sum just to clear the loan. 3rd Fed. continued to claim, for 2 weeks, that they hadn't received the extra payment, and threatened to return the payoff check. They then took a larger sum from our automated payment plan! It took 40 minutes of haggling, being put on hold and my yelling at the rep for them to actually check bank records--the extra sum they'd requested had been received and applied to the account within two days of the first request! They purposely sat on our payoff for 14 days, then tried to assess an additional interest payment.

I am purchasing a home that has been foreclosed on and auctioned at a sheriff sale. Third Federal helped assure me that they could close the loan in time for me to meet the payoff date and have been very helpful in answering all my questions - or finding someone who could if they did not have the answer. I shopped around for better rates and shared the good faith estimates, Third Federal was able to lower some of the closing costs for me. When I told them that my employer has a plan with Wells Fargo that makes me eligible for a $500 discount on closing costs and asked them to do the same, Steve transferred me to their development office and in one phone call I was able to get my employer on Third Federals Preferred Company program and got $250 off closing costs for our employees (including me).
