Description of Work: I called pc guys because my computer was running slow, it just needed a tune up. The gentleman spent over four hours laboriously going over everything, even things that I didn't want done, taking copious notes. He also asked me if I wanted to give him my information so that he could fix my computer from his home. I thought that was very weird, since this was the first time I had used him. Finally, I had to go somewhere and practically kicked him out. All that would have been okay, except the reason I had used him in the first place is that he told me that he comes to a customer's home right away if needed. When I called him for another problem, he told me it would be at least a week. When reminded of his commitment, he said " how could I do that with everybody?"

He told me he charged $70 for the first hour and $60 an hour thereafter. Little did I know that he would spend over 8 hours at my house for a tune-up that in the past had taken about two hours and cost about $165 by my previous computer guy who retired. He also claimed to fix a number of programs that were working fine. He offered to sell me a Norton Anti Virus program for halfprice. Unfortunately his so-called half price was nearly $15 more than it should have been, based upon what the program was offered for by Norton or Amazon. He configured my printer to print wirelessly, but later I had to spend an hour of my time to fix a problem with the printer. I complained about his price and he reduced it, but not to my satisfaction. He finally sent me an email to pay what I thought his service was worth and that is what I did. I regret ever having Marc Barron work on my computer. He also put an ad on my computer for his company - This computer is maintained by PC Guys - without asking my permission and I had him remove it.
Description of Work: He tuned up my computer, and spent over eight hours when two hours would have been appropriate.

I very much appreciate you taking the time to share your experience with our company. We are committed to customer satisfaction and do not take your comments lightly. However, I would like to clarify a few things that we already discussed in our email exchanges. There seems to be confusion regarding our prices. Since I opened my company in 2003, my prices have remained the same. For on-site work, I charge as an hourly consultant - $79 for the first hour and $50 for every additional hour. The first hour is a minimum charge and anything thereafter is broken down into 15 minute increments at $12.50 per 15 minutes or $50 for the hour. I discuss my pricing with every customer prior to scheduling a first appointment. I know you were very aware of this price because you were calculating your bill while I was at your home. In regards to pricing from a previous computer professional, I don’t feel you can fairly compare me to someone else. Especially when I don’t know the person, or the quality of their work, or what work they performed for you to charge $165. I can 100% guarantee they did not perform the same work I did, based on the state of your computer when I began working on it. As I explained to you, I am a very thorough and conscientious consultant and I always do my best to configure a computer, printer, network or any other device to each customers specific needs. You mentioned in your review that I “fixed” a number of programs. Let me clarify, as stated on your invoice I reviewed and updated many programs that if left alone, would leave your computer vulnerable to multiple security risks. You also stated that I charged you more than the half price that we agreed upon for Norton Antivirus. I have not changed my pricing for Norton in many years. I have charged the retail price of $49.99 plus tax to well over 100 customers in 2014 alone and have never had a problem. I graciously offered you half price and explained why I value this product. After my recommendation to switch security products, you made the ultimate choice to switch products and you knew my pricing. If you were able to find this product for a lower price on a discount website like Amazon, that’s wonderful, but I’m not a large enterprise that can offer price matching for every item I sell. As a consultant, I brought wireless printing to your attention to allow you to be able to print wirelessly from your Apple devices (iPads). I completed this job including configuring the Printer on 6/25/15, successfully, and tested it to your satisfaction on all devices. The issue you had with your Printer door not closing properly, 6 days after I did this work, had nothing to do with the work I did. I did research the issue, on my own time, and advised you on 7/3/15 that the Printer would need some troubleshooting to diagnose the new problem and multiple steps might need to be taken to fix the issue. I recommended that if the Printer was still in warranty, you should try to go through Hewlett Packard. I also advised that a lot of times with Printers it can take a while to fix and may not be worth the value of the Printer. Beyond this, it was your choice to take your 1 hour of time to fix the problem on your own. Regarding the “ad” that I put on your computer, I would like to clarify that it is not an ad. It is my company logo and contact information, but it is placed on the computer for the benefit of my customers to be able to reach me easily. It only shows up on the screen when you are booting up or shutting down your computer. How often do you show your computer booting up to other people, for it to be considered advertising? Also, at your request, I came over the same day you called - at no charge - and removed it. It is very unfortunate that you feel so negatively about your experience. I am positive that my work made a very great contribution to the improved performance of your computer as well as enhancing your security, allowing you to print wirelessly from your iPads and other devices, and I shared a lot of information and tips while I was working. I have been in this business for 13 years and served over 500 customers, many of which have continued to use me as their consultant for over 10 years. In all this time, I have only had a few customers get upset with me and all have been in regards to the total bill and amount of time that went along with the job. I am very satisfied with this track record and will continue to maintain my level of thoroughness because anything less, is not acceptable to my standards. Mark appeared to be extremely technically competent. The project expended beyond what I had anticipated. I started out thinking just the data files I needed on the new computer could be transferred from the old virus infected one. He explained that the data files could be infected with the virus and would / could infect my new machine and any oher network I connected to with the virus irregardless of the antivirus software I had installed. Marc made sure the new computer had all the updates and all the necessary files were there and set properly. The job was done the right way doing all the necessary steps in insure my new laptop would be trouble free. Personally I don't think I managed the service call as well as i might have and in hindsight, I could have done some of the updates that Marc did, but it was my fault for not realizing all the steps her was going to do.

He was supposed to fix my computer and I couldn’t use it. I was not very happy with him. He was very pricey. He was very courteous and pleasant. The price was high and the service didn’t work. He took my computer on the 11th of November. I had surgery on the 9th and I remember having given the computer to him. He kept my computer for 3 weeks. He cleared the viruses from the computer and installed Norton which was useless. He said he would clean my desktop and I didn’t really need that. He put everything in a folder. The service didn’t work well for me and the price was high. Once he does something for you on your computer he gets more work from it. He installed something on my computer so that I have to call him back again. He hooks you up on something so that you need his help again in 6 months or year. If someone is still in need they can use him. My computer cost me $500 and I nearly bought it again. He was not responsive. I needed the computer at home and he took it. He was very punctual. Once he got the computer it took 3-4 calls to talk to him. When he was with the client he would say I would call you back.
Description of Work: I used the services of The PC Guys for computer repairs in November.

Marc did an outstanding job. He was prompt, pleasant to work with, analyzed and repaired the PC in a professional and efficient way. I would and will use Marc again.

My desktop computer stopped displaying video correctly and eventually the screen went completely black. I thought it was probably a bad video card so I bought and installed a new one. That did not work either, so I called Marc. He took the desktop back to his shop and called me later that day to ask how much I wanted to spend to fix it and offered several options. I took the option to get it reasonably close to the original performance. This was a fairly high-end computer originally. The replacement video card was somethat expensive for a 3 year old computer but it was worth it to get access again to the files on the hard drive. My lesson was to back up all my files.
Description of Work: Marc stopped by within about 3 days of the call, looked at the desktop, tested the power supply and thought that might be the problem. So he took it to work on it in his shop and found out the original video card and a replacement video card I bought and installed were both bad. He purchased a replacement video card, installed it and the video drivers, scanned and cleaned the hard drive and registry and returned the desktop within 3 days.

No matter the nature of the service, be it an emergency situation needing an immediate fix or an annual tune up, all work is always done to perfection and our satisfaction.
Description of Work: Marc has been servicing our computers both at our business and at our home for three years now. Marc is always professional. He is extremely skilled, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. Most importantly, he keeps our computers in optimal working order by removing viruses, doing updates, tweaking the systems to keep them up and running, performing annual "clean ups", and fixing problems. Marc is always responsive to our phone calls or emails regarding questions on how to perform emergency fixes to solve problems. It is such a relief to have a working relationship with someone who knows what they are doing and who can be trusted. As always, we will continue to recommend Marc.

I had the problem for 3 weeks of not being able to connect to the internet with my laptop. When I called the PC Guys, they got back to my within a couple of hours and we made an appointment for later in the week. There were very flexible with my schedule. The day of the work they contacted me to let me know when there would be there more exactly and arrived on time. The work was difficult but they persevered and found the problem. I was very, very impressed with their service and have recommended them to others.
Description of Work: Found and fixed a a rogue virus that was preventing my computer from connecting to the internet. Cleaned windows registry and hard drive, removed spyware program, installed critical updates, updated firewall protection and inistalled updated Norton Anti-Virus.

Marc found the hard drive had crashed. He installed a new hard drive and was able to transfer most of the data from the old drive. He also, cleaned up the start menu so the computer booted up more rapidly.
