The House Doctors

Excellent work. It ended up being more work than I expected. I called and asked permission for them to do more work. Mr. Vecchio was very accommodating and willing to work within my budget.

I did not use this contractor because of their unresponsiveness. Cost also turned out to be unreasonable.

Prompt reply to my request for an estimate. They had to get letter from HOA for approval and then get approval from city. That took several weeks. Once they started on the job, it took about a week longer that they said it would and they had to modify the plan.

Thanks to the abundance of 'helicopters' this year, my gutters were sprouting miniature trees. In addition, my front gutter had become progressively more off kilter in the year and a half that I've owned the house. Mr. Vecchio was very responsive in returning phone calls, getting his crew out in a timely fashion. He even tried to save me money in relation to my front gutter (the board it hangs on was rotting), but when the initial rehanging didn't work, they were back out to replace the rotted board and rehang the gutter--again. You can tell that customer service means a lot to this company.

I recommend them and will use them again.

They seemed interested and willing to get the power washing job, but they never got back to me to set up a time to perform the work. I called them back a week later because I had not heard from them, and they again promised to call back to set up an appointment time, and they never did call back. I waited to do the pressure washing job because I thought I would hear from them, and was disappointed to have been left without a company for two weeks. I was very unhappy with their lack of response and their unwillingness to take on my project or to at least inform me that they would not be taking the job. I was hoping to use them for future washing and painting jobs, but because of this, I will be finding another company to do that work. The man with whom I spoke on the phone was very personable and friendly, but showed a complete lack of responsiveness as far as returning my calls.

I called and they performed the work within a week or two. Very responsive.

Their quote was pretty high, I thought on the electrical. There was a lot of work to be done of course but when we got other quotes they weren't quite so bad.

Overall, everything was done excellently. Bob always responds promptly to work request. Rod, the electrician, was prompt, polite, and very professional. I will call The House Doctors again.

We had them out to look at two different jobs: the gutter on our garage and also the gutter on the front of our house. They were able to fix our garage gutter very quickly, but were reluctant to do any repairs to our house gutter because they discovered it was installed by another company (before we bought our house) and they told us we may want to call them first because that company's warranty may have been transferred to us when we bought the house. It turns out they were correct; I talked to that company and the repair will be covered by the warranty and at no charge to us, so I'm glad that House Doctors did not try to repair our house gutter, as it would have voided our warranty.

They have painted a bedroom, and drywalled and plastered the ceiling in the basement, sent out an electrician to install ceiling fans, and put in crown molding in. They are excellent. They are punctual. The estimate is within a range and is limited to that. The work is always done well, and they are sticklers for cleanup. It is usually finished in the time they give you. Overall, it's what you want to get.

They perfect and wonderful. They were on time. They cleaned up after themselves. I had to bring them back out. But it took one call and there was no problem.

We called to get a quote on some bricks to be replaced on our front steps. When Harvey came out he said it could be done but I'll also had him take a look at an outside window frame that needed repair and was more urgent. He quoted us on both. We asked him to just repair the window. Due to the weather it took him a few weeks to come out. We were satisfied with the work and would hire again.

They did a good job, finished within a day.

had used them for a similar problem in the other bathroom a few years earlier. I was happy with the work that was done, but I thought the price was rather high. When they first got here, I mentioned that I would like to get an estimate for replacing the flooring in the bathroom, but that I would have it done at a later date, as a different job. After the whole job was done, a guy came to look at the floor. Bob called that night and said the estimate was $950. (See other report on this one!) This experience: Bob asked if I was in a hurry, I said I didn't want the job to slide too much. He said they could do it in 3 weeks. When they called in 3 weeks, I was sick, so I could not have them do the work. Four weeks later, they hadn't called, so I contacted them. They said they would come later that week, and they did. Bob's son and 4 guys came. They had no paperwork, and I had to remind them what was to be done. I was very happy with the replacement of the drywall above the shower (one piece about 6 inches by the length of the tub), and the removal of the peeling paint. As for the paint job, there were 2 places (bigger than a half dollar) on the wall where the paint had been peeled to reveal a grayish cardboard looking part of the drywall. I would have expected this area to have been patched and sanded before the paint went on, but this did not happen. The area looks terrible (click on photo, below, to enlarge). Unfortunately, I was not home the day the painting of the bathroom took place. As for the kitchen drawer, instead of replacing the broken bracket at the back of the cabinet, since only the top half had broken off, the guy did something to the drawer and put in a nail. Yes, the drawer works, but I feel this was a band-aid fix. Bob said if it fails, call and he'll come back and fix it. The doorknob in the bathroom was to be completely replaced if needed. Again, I was not home the day the old one was put back. We cannot lock the door, and we can turn the knob only one way. With Bob, I've never gotten what I would call a true written estimate. He'll write down what he's going to do and give a range for an estimate. (Next time I'll ask for each task to be broken out with associated cost.) I was disappointed with the overall work, but decided that if he charged me the low end of the range, I'd pay it and be done with it. When the bill came, the cost was in the middle, so I contacted him and asked how it was determined. During that discussion, he did say that I should have called if I was unhappy with anything, and I'll admit I should have. We agreed that I would pay the low end of the range. I feel bad about how things ended because Bob is a very nice man. I rated the overall experience and quality of work as GOOD on the basis that the main reason I called him was to fix the wallboard and ceiling over the tub/shower, and I am very pleased with those results. The job took 12-13 man hours.

After the original work was complete, a man came to the house to look at and measure the bathroom floor. I would have needed to buy a piece of vinyl flooring 12 ft by 6 ft to cover the floor. About 2 hours later, and I'll admit while I was upset about the first job, Bob called and left a message that the replacing the floor (I would have to buy the floor separately) would cost $950, and he wanted an answer that night about whether I wanted them to do the work or not. When I heard the message, my jaw dropped to the floor. I thought this was outrageous and I did not call back. Later that evening, I went to the hardware store to look at floors, and I found one I liked. I explained what I was having done to the salesperson and asked her for a ballpark estimate of what it should cost. She said I would probably be charged a day's charges which would probably run about $375. I did NOT have The House Doctors do the work at $950. I had the hardware store's recommended person do it for less than half of what the House Doctors charged, and that included replacing the toilet valve and replacing the toe splash under the sink area.

House Doctors submitted a detailed list of items to be done with a price for each item. We okayed the items we wanted done at the time and the work was completed promptly. An itemized list of what was done was mailed to us with the bill. All work was timely and professionally done. They cleaned up all garbage from their project.

They are very competent. They have a lot of different people who do a lot of different things. They are very respectful about being inside my house and home. Their pricing is very reasonable.

The experience was excellent. From the beginning, the communication was great. They called me back the same day with a detailed estimate. They did the work according to the estimate. The workers were very professional and courteous. The work was high standard and met our expectations.

I have used them before and they have always done a great job. They do a great job of handle all of my questions and inspections. They are very polite and professional and i will use them again.

They were very punctual and very professional and very great. I would recommend them and they were a tad costly so I would not hire again but their work was great.

Two men came and were polite and neat. I asked them to use a drop cloth and take off their shoes and they did. I had originally asked for 2 light fixtures to be installed, but then asked for a third to be installed, and he did it quite willingly. They were friendly, answered all my questions and did exactly what I had asked them to do. They painted the walls, baseboards and landing area going up the steps.

They are great, and are very professional. They are great at getting back to you, and they are easy to do business with.

He is very reasonable. He does charge a service fee, so he likes to make it worth your while and do several jobs at once so you get your money's worth.
