 + -1 moreThis is the second time we've used House Doctors for repairs. We first used them in the winter of 2009/2010 when we had an ice dam. They came out and fixed the area within a day. This week, we called them again to fix an area in the kitchen ceiling that had also been damaged by that same ice problem. They came exactly when they said they would, did exactly what they said they would do, and charged exactly what they said they would charge. Very courteous, professional, fast, did a good job, and good price. I highly recommend.

 + 0 moreTook almost a week for them to come out to look at my overhang and fencing requirements, then it took another four days or so to get a quote on the overhang, and the quote was not what I asked for. I never did receive any quotes for fencing.
Description of Work: Asked for a quote on the overhang above my side door that was torn down. I wanted a quote for repairing the siding and installing another wooden overhang. I also wanted some quotes on fencing around my back yard. Took them 1-1/2 weeks to give me a quote on the overhang, but the quote was for an Aluminum awning, not a wooden overhang. They never did give me the quotes for doing the fencing.

When delayed on another job because of the weather, they phoned and let us know that they would be coming the next day. They were careful with their ladders around all our plants and flowers. The first time they worked for us, they repaired ice damage and we were very satisfied with them.

 + 1 moreStart to finish I was keep informed. They had a cancellation called us and the work was completed earlier expected. The roofers stayed on the job eating lunch while they worked. They replaced a light fixture in the bedroom that fell because of the pounding on the roof at no charge. They took pictures of the rotted roof came down to explain how they would replace it. Very efficient.
Description of Work: 1. Complete tear off of existing roof, cut out damage roof, replace rotted wood in one area, install new felt, ice and water shield, drip edge, valleys and dimensional 30 year shingles. Clean up and hauled away old materials. $4,189.00 2. Remove all existing gutters and down spouts from the entire house, install new white seamless 5" aluminum gutters and down spouts on the house and garage. $687.00 3. Remove the vinyl siding from the rear of the garage, cut out and replace damaged 1" x 6" Tongue an groove wood siding as needed, replace the rotted fascia, re-hung the vinyl siding. $584.00.

Basically, I gave the list to Mike Vecchio and he and his crew did the repairs quickly and professionally. Along the way, I had a couple of other things go wrong with the house and I called Mike and he tooked care of them, too. Very professional. When he said he would do something, it was done.  + -1 moreThe owner returned my call the evening after I left a message and scheduled a walk-through for the estimate a week later. He and I went over all the things I wanted cleaned and he called me back about I week later and gave me a quote. Lori and two other women came to our house on a Saturday morning and pretty much cleaned all day. The house was pretty filthy from my view; we had had a couple of remodeling jobs done last year and I never had time to wipe all of the dust and grime off the surfaces that you don't notice so much, like the baseboards. We have a seldom-used old bathroom in the finished basement that is pretty grimy. All 3 bathrooms, the kitchen, and the entryway/coatroom all have tile floors and the master bath has a huge double shower that is tiled from ceiling to floor (the owner groaned when he saw it...."the ladies are going to hate me", he said) Everything looked really nice when they finished. When I came home, the house smelled of thyme from the cleaning solution. I paid the exact price quoted even though they did more than I requested. They cleaned the insides of the windows downstairs and they straightened up my laundry room and vacuumed the carpet in the basement even though I had told the owner not to have them bother because it was such a mess with storage boxes everywhere. This was a nice surprise although I felt bad that they'd had to work around such a mess.... I have no complaints at all. Our master shower has an area on the tile that collects soap scum / hard water calcium deposits that was still there but I highly doubt this can be removed with green cleaners. (I used some environmentally nasty soap-scum-remover cleaner and a toothbrush on the area after the ladies had left and I still don't have it sparkling so obviously I'm gonna have to work on this area a bit and then probably seal it with something like silicone.....) I would recommend this company and have hired them for twice a month maintenance cleaning.
Description of Work: "Spring cleaning" of our 4 bedroom, 3 full bathroom house (which has LOTS of tile) including washing all of the floors, baseboards, windowsills in all of the rooms. It took 3 women about 5 hours to get everything clean. They used all Green cleaners as requested.

They have responded as quickly as I have asked and done everything that I have asked. Their fees are quite reasonable - I have never questioned their invoices. They have done floor repairs (wood/ tile replacement), plumbing repair, small roof repair, gutter and chimney cap replacement, ice/snow removal, electrical work, general maintenance activities. I don't think I have had a better experience with any contractor - I would highly and unquestionably recommend them.

 + -1 moreThe House Doctors rose to the challenge of painting our garage. The painters were able to come sooner than we expected. They matched the existing colors perfectly. And -- the real challenge -- they were able to paint the back of the garage where there was no pavement, only rocks, leaves and garden clippings. It rained for several days while they were working, so it took over a week until the job was finished. The painters were very polite and professional. And they used a good quality paint. We were very pleased with the work that they did.
Description of Work: Prepped, caulked as needed, primed all bare spots, and put 2 coats of paint over the exterior of the garage.

 + 12 moreIt went very well overall. I told the story in the above section where I described the services, pretty much. The House Doctors did a fantastic job! I'll take this opportunity to discuss previous work that I think I reported before, but I'm not certain: - Remodeled downstairs bathroom, installing new drywall and painted walls. - Installed new side, front and family room doors. - Garage: Removed mold by power-washing, then re-painted garage and replaced a piece of wood next to garage door. Installed new gutters. I think the garage work began at the beginning of June 2009. I believe I reported that before but I got behind in my reports, so I'm not certain! The electrical work (new fuses, etc) was in August 2009. The furnace work was just before Labor Day if I remember correctly. They hauled away the tree branches at the end of October / beginning of November. Then began with the basement remodeling in January 2010 (I think), and completed the last of the work, the family room and kitchenette painting, at the beginning of this month -- March 2010. Two items, the garage work and the hauling away of the branches were done because I got violation notices from city inspections. I appreciate that both of these were done by the due dates the inspectors gave me, which in both cases was only a week from the time I got the notice. Great job!
Description of Work: ELECTRICAL: - Installed brand new fuse box with new, modern fuses. - Ceiling fan remote control installed in kitchenette. - Exhaust fam installed on upstairs bathroom ceiling. - Hauled away a huge pile of tree branches from next to my garage by my re-inspection date. - UPSTAIRS BATHROOM: Drywall installed, old paint removed and repainted with waterproof paint, exhaust fan installed on ceiling, area above bathtub re-caulked. - BASEMENT REMODELING: They completely remodeled my basement and it looks fantastic now. It was a mess before. In the rec room part, they hauled away all the clutter including broken furniture, and a folded up carpet ruined by water, ripped out old paneling that was damaged by moisture and installed new paneling. They painted the paneling, the ceiling and installed new light bulbs and fixtures. They laid new floor in both parts of the basement (including section with washer, dryer, etc) -- it's laminate but looks just like hardwood. They re-attached and painted the baseboards. Utility part of basement: They removed and hauled away the old wash basin which was rotted out. They installed a new wash basin and replace the exhaust pipe from the dryer to the outside, and a new drain pipe from the wash basin to the ground. They got rid of the cobwebs. They laid a concrete-like material for a new floor under the wash basin and the furnace. They cleaned off the shelves in the back of the utility area used for storage. They installed new pullchains for 2 lightbulbs, one by the washer and the other by the furnace. It looks clean and bright now! WINDOWS: Installed 2 new windows and blinds in the kitchenette, replacing 2 broken sets of 2 windows each that wound out. These windows provide a much nicer view and are very easy to clean. - Installed new downstairs bathroom window, replacing old broken one. - Installed new upstairs bathroom window, replacing old broken one. ROOFING: - Replaced family room roof (it was leaking when snow was melting) and also the section where it joins the roofing of the rest of the house. - Installed waterproofing materials underneath roofing. - Removed large icicles from the gutter outside the family room in front of and next to the family room doors. INTERIOR PAINTING: - Painted family room and kitchenette ceiling and window frames and family room doors white. - Painted family room and kitchenette walls teal, matching one of the colors on the family room sofa. - Painted basement walls and ceiling and wall by stairs leading up from basement white. PLUMBING/HEATING: - New drain pipes installed under downstairs bathroom sink (just after downstairs bathroom remodeling). - Replaced broken computer board in furnace (heat was not coming on because of broken computer board)

 + 0 moreRod was always prompt and called if he was going to be late. He was also very courteous. Initially, the ungrounded outlets were grounded to the cold water pipe and the ground wire was too exposed for my liking, so I hid it more and resecured it with tie wraps instead of electrical tape. I also rerouted the wires in the attic because I didn't like how they were laying across the insulation. After doing some research on grounding to cold water, I didn't feel comfortable with it and asked Rod if he could come back out and ground to the panel instead. He had no problem doing that at my request and came back right away to do the rework. Rod also secured the ground wires in my attic with staples when he came back out. I was pleased with the way the job was performed the 2nd time around.

 + 1 more1) The initial clean-up and repair went very quickly and smoothly. The room is normally used as an office and was needed within 2 weeks. Repairs were decided upon, and completed quickly in a quality fashion with minimum disruption to our daily activities. 2) In a similar, high quality fashion, replacement of the shower proceeded over the course of approximately 1 week. The work entailed removing the old shower stall, relocating the shower's drain, installing a new light fixture, installing a new fiberglass shower, a new temperature controlled shower valve, and cleaning up and hauling away all debris from the job. In total, this company did an excellent job from start to clean-up. They are quality, responsive, professionals who know what to do, what they are doing, and how to get things done expeditiously. I recommend them without any reservation.
Description of Work: An old worn-out shower stall in our downstairs bathroom caused a water leak into an adjoining carpeted room over Christmas, 2009. Arriving home late at night, The House Doctors was called -- they responded promptly to help us determine the cause and clean up the mess. The result was that two things needed to be done: 1) The adjoining room needed to be repaired, repainted and re-carpeted. 2) The worn out shower stall needed to be replaced.
