The House Doctors

Well, you get what you pay for! I purchased the deal of the day for 2 hours of pressure washing. Since the House Doctors got such good reviews, I was planning on hiring them to do some repairs at my house, after they finished the power washing. I called 3 times over 2 weeks to schedule the appointment, each time having to leave my name, address, phone number again, but did not receive a return call. The fourth time I called, the owner answered and was very nice. However, a few days later I received a call from him, as he said his son had already performed the pressure washing. Well, he hadn't so I had to call back AGAIN to make sure they were still coming, especially since I had already paid. He said they would be out within a week, which they were. His worker showed up right when I was leaving for work. He told me that the "brown spots" on my vinyl siding could not be removed as they were damage from oxidation. I wasn't sure specifically what spots he was talking about but that sounded reasonable. There was a lot of dirt on my vinyl siding from the winter. Since I had pressured washed it myself the year before with a unit I rented from home depot, I knew that most of it could be removed. When I returned home that day, it looked as though he "pressure washed" my house for maybe 10 minutes. There were still cob webs everywhere and tons of dirt on my siding. He skipped the back side of the house where my siding was even though I told the worker specifically what I wanted before I left for work (the back siding done but not the deck itself). In addition, he took the rugs I had on my front porch and put them on the side of the house while washing, but did not put them back. Of course, it rained later that day causing my rugs to be ruined (Note: I use indoor rugs on my front porch since the rain does not reach them). I was so disappointed with cleaning of my siding that I decided I would spray one area of my siding with regular household cleaner then rinse with just my hose. I was worried that I would have to replace the siding on my entire house if what he said was correct about "oxidative" damage. Guess what? The "oxidative" spots are just normal dirt and came off with regular soap and a hose. Because I can't reach the 2nd story with my hose, I have since had another company look at my siding for a pressure washing. They assured me that the dirt would come off and are coming out next week. I will not use House Doctors again. With the money I paid for the service and because I had to purchase new rugs for my front porch, the whole ordeal cost me $160. This is not including the money I am going to pay to have someone do it correctly. I have a feeling that because it was the "deal of the day" and they already had my money, they did not perform quality service. I am VERY apprehensive to purchase another "deal of the day" and do not recommend House Doctors.

I wanted to have the work done at the end of July, so I called in early July to schedule. I called and left 4 messages over the course of a couple weeks. Each time I was assurred I'd get a call. When I finally got a call, my schedule option was 2 weeks out, into August. He offered my 1 day, which wouldn't work for my schedule, so I needed to call back to give him a day that would work. The day before the work, I received a call to schedule my work. I was confused and concerned. I explained that I was to have the work done the next day and the man reassured me that someone would show up, although I was on the "list to schedule". To my suprise, Mark showed up right on time and was very professional and polite. I showed him what needed completed and he went right to work. I was suprised by how much he accomplished. He gave me some tips to complete the job and left things in great shape. There were several times that I had thought about calling to cancel the service, but I'm glad I didn't., Mark more than made up for the amount of initial disorganzationand frustration that I experience.

We had a storm knock a tree down and it demolished our awning. I called them to see about having them remove the awning. I came home one day and found that the awning had been removed without giving us any notice. The trellises were left behind as well as the pole for the antenna. I actually found this out by accidentally mowing over the pole and completely ruining my mower. I have called many, many times trying to get them to take care of the unfinished business and it has been very difficult to communicate with them. They give no notice when they are going to show up when I have repeatedly asked for notice. I now have to remove the pole, clean up the mess that they left and buy a new lawnmower all because of their lack of follow-through.

I called and discussed problems, someone came and investigated and took pictures. We discussed the solution and then an appointment was made. In both cases the workers were on time, polite, friendly and patient with all my questions.

They did a thorough job, neatly and professionally. Cleaned all the walls and floor, painted walls, vacuumed rafters. Demolished and removed an unwanted storage unit.

Cleaned gutters and downspouts. I had previously paid someone regularly to clean my gutters who got alot of leaves out of the gutters but didn't clean the down spouts or even the spout screens. Eventually I figured this out and called The House Doctors. They came out and got the job done. The next rain, water actually moved through the gutters like it is supposed to do. The House Doctors were very courteous and polite on the phone and charged what I think is a very reasonable rate to clean the gutters and remove two clogs from two down-spouts. I will use them twice a year from now on..

Excellent job. I hired them on a Friday and they came by the following Wednesday. There were three women that came at the same time. It worked out well because I was given a range of time they would arrive and they could stay as short or as long as needed to complete the tasks we identified. Everything was based on the hourly rate. All three women were thorough, on-time, polite and worked continuously. We also have a golden retriever and had two Yorkshire terriers visiting and they were comfortable with them and were animal friendly. I would definitely recommend them and hire them again!

When I was ready for the very simple work to be done on some outside door facings, I called the company to schedule it. Mr. Vecchio answered the phone and I identified myself, gave my address and phone number, coupon number, described the work to be done, and indicated my availability times for the present week and thereafter. He said he would have his son call me before 9:00 PM that night. No one called me back. Several days later, I called the company and left a message, asking why I had not been called and stating the above request again. Three days later I received a call from The House Doctors, stating simply “I am returning your call”. I repeated the reason for the call, giving the above information. The person said he is the son. He then gave me a morning time for the work, 2 or 3 weeks later, even though I had stated earlier that I would not be present in the mornings. On hearing this, the son said “To be honest wichyou, we have 300 coupons, and I was trying to work you in”. So he mentioned a later time, again in the morning, which I had to decline. He then declared “To be honest wichyou, with all these coupons, we tell you when we will be coming there to work”. I told him that I am the one who determines when people work on my property and to cancel the coupon. He then said for me to call Angie’s list to get my money back. I did so. I am sincerely glad I found out what kind of people work at The House Doctors before I let them come on my property. Angie’s list should be more careful about whom they promote because to The House Doctors, honoring their coupon was No Big Deal. Like most people, I would rather pay the regular price and receive acceptable work.

My experience was good. They came out and I was having a problem with the gutter leaking. They cleaned it first and then had to replace the gutter. It has rained since the installation and it works great. When i call them they normally come within a day or 2.

The workman arrived early on both days. The days were hot and the workman arrived in the afternoon of the second day. It was difficult to work in the heat. The work time was decided by the company both days. It was a bad situation both days becaause of the absence of tools, the work hours and the changing of work orders. Overall the experience was unsatisfing for the workman sent and me.

It did take a gentle reminder, but they came right out and took care of it. I bought a Big Deal for the job and they did excellent work.

Jason arrived on time and did a fine job pressure-washing the aluminum siding and awnings. It took about 1.75 hours, and he also washed the front and back concrete steps to the house.

The crew from House Doctors did an excellent job of repairing all the damage, making the garage look even better than it did before! They worked hard in the terrible heat but did not complain--always pleasant, good communication and prompt. You can't go wrong with House Doctors!

I telephoned to request service at 11:00am, and the repairman arrived the same day, around 5:00pm. Exceptionally prompt service. The repairman cleaned out the clogged gutter and downspout in 5 minutes, and cleaned up the work area when he was done. Then he came into the house, and replaced the broken flush mechanism on my 1st floor bathroom toilet, and cleaned up the floor and the toilet fixture very nicely when he was done with the job. The work on the toilet took around 15 minutes. I am very happy with this service.

I called House Doctors on 6/24/2011 to request an estimate on repairing or rebuilding a damaged chimney. Bob called me back immediately. I indicated the chimney problem and requested that they notify me before someone came out to assess the project so that I could be here to talk with them. I had questions and several additional projects I intended to ask them to quote on if the person they sent seemed competent. Several days later I got a call from Mike, who seemed to be unaware that Bob had already spoken to me, and I again indicated what I wanted and that I wanted to be here when they came. The people from House Doctors failed to notify me as requested and so missed the chance to bid on any of the other projects. It appears someone did come out to look at the chimney when I was not at home because I got a verbal quote from them by telephone around the beginning of July. Although House Doctors' quote was a few dollars higher than the written one I had in hand from the company I ultimately hired, I wanted to do a fair comparison so I called back the next day to request their quote in writing. It never arrived. I was pretty disappointed because I am looking for a good general handyman, and the reports on Angie's List made them look promising.

It went, as always, very well. The work was done as requested in a very professional manner.

Bob Vecchio called me shortly after I purchased the service and we scheduled an appointment for a handyman to come for two hours. He came right on time and completed several tasks within the two hour time frame.....well done. I was very satisfied and would refer others to House Doctors and would call them again myself.

Despite two calls (left messages), no return phone call.

I had contacted House Doctors on June 24th or 25hth 2011 to find out if they could help me with a gutter problem. On Sunday 6/26 I received an email telling me someone would be in touch very soon. On Thursday someone called and wanted to come within the hour. I had to leave and the person said they would come without me being there and then we would talk on the phone. I would have rather this appointment taken place in my presence, but the person was going on vacation and would not be in on Friday and of course Monday the 4th. I called on the 5th and had a very good conversation with the person who was going to do the repair. We seemed to be on the same page. He told me someone from the office would call with a price and schedule the appointment. On The 7th, the person called to give me a price - but when I asked a few questions, he had no idea what I was talking about. I then went through some of the conversation I had with the installer to be and was told the he (the pricing person) would get back with me after speaking to the installer on the 8th. I have never heard back from anyone...and must assume that they are not interested in this job. It would have been nice and professional for them to have called to let me know that. Looking at this, it would seem that the misstep is passing the pricing on to someone else who did not see the job nor did the understand the scope. Or the installer to be was not able to describe to the pricing person what was going to take place. I did not want to hire anyone until I was certain what was going to take place - I've had too many problems with people telling me they know what they are doing ...trust me...and it still remains unfixed.

We took advantage of a Big Deal for two hours worth of handyman work. Jim was efficient, professional, and personable. He moved from one task to another quickly, explaining what he had to do or could not do as he went and offering suggestions for how to accomplish other tasks. We were very pleased with what he accomplished. We have already asked the company to estimate other work for us.

I emailed via Angie's List, was contacted the same day by Bob who told me that Mike would be setting everything up. Mike contacted me that evening, gave me an estimate and told me that the work would be done early the next week. My only negative to the experience is that Mike told me that Jason would be doing the work and would be calling me as to when to expect him--I never received a call from Jason (which to be honest, I didn't really expect).

We found the House Doctors by searching Roofing on Angie's List. Our initial phone call was responded to very quickly and the problem was assessed and an estimate provided. The gentlemen who did the repairs were very knowledgable and friendly. They took pictures of the problem and explained what they did to correct the issue. We won't hesitate to use House Doctors again if the need arises in any of the categories they service.

I use House Doctors twice a year to clean my gutters. They are always prompt and do a good job. I know I can count on them to do a good job. They clean up after themselves and are very professional.

The job was to professionally clean my mother's vacant home, prior to showing it for sale. We were expecting two adults but one adult and 3 teenagers arrived. They all worked hard. It took about 3 hours for the 4 individuals to complete all the tasks and we were charged the quoted price.

Nobody ever returned my call like I was told. I finally called back thursday of the same week and left a voicemail stating that I had not heard back from them and told them I was told that I would get a call back on Monday and never received one. Said that some of the reviews about him might have been accurate regarding him not returning calls. He called me back and left me a very angry and dignant voicemail. All I expected was an apology about not getting back to me from him, and everything would have been fine.
