 + 0 moreA tree was blown into my home causing severe structural damage. The furniture in the room that was destroyed was a bedroom set that was purchased by my Dad for my Mom as a wedding gift in 1938. There was a lot of water damage and quite a few dings and dents. I am very sentimentally attached to this set and I wanted the job done right. I had 4 estimates before choosing Chip. From the outset it was obvious that he takes great personal pride in his work. He and his crew took great care in moving the furniture in and out of my home. He requested that I come look at the furniture after it was stripped so that I could be sure of the color and finish I wanted.(The other companies did not give me an opportunity to do this). The finished set arrived in my home spotlessly clean. It was more beautiful than I remembered it from my childhood! Chip is truly a gifted craftsman. I will use him again as well as recommend him at every opportunity.

Description of Work: refinished dining room table and buffet. was very prompt for home visit to give me estimate. unfortunately, after that there was one excuse after another for delays, not showing up on time, not showing up at all, not returning phone calls. i would rate the quality of their work average. while i understand that during transport to and from there can be minor scratches or chips. we did experience those and they were taken care of. however, the table and buffet had scratches and marks that were not from transporting. the buffet doors were put on incorrectly 3 times. the first time the doors rubbed against the bottom shelve and removed the finish. the second time the catch for the doors to lock was not replaced, leaving the doors unable to stay shut. the third, and final time, the buffet was returned full of dust and dirt, with the doors still not operating correctly. at that point, my husband took them apart and fixed them. i spent alot of time removing all the dirt and dust, which had even gotten on my carpeting.

Description of Work: I have had alot of work done in the past and it has all been absolutely excellent! Chip is a wonderful capable craftsman. Even when I don't have work to be done, I will call him about advice, from polish to securing shelf clips in a curio cabinet. He has always taken the time to help out.

 + -1 moreThe Finishing Room's owner provided us with a verbal quote and refused to give a written quote. There was no paper trail whatsoever. We had to insist on a written receipt of payment. Accessibility is extremely poor. The owner rarely answers his shop phone or his cell phone and does not return calls promptly. In many cases, it took days to reach him. Quality of work was poor. There were numerous quality issues, which included uneven color, and unstained areas. These were eventually corrected except on the table and buffet. A new leaf was constructed, which did not fit properly. The Finishing Room was unable to correct this, so we were given a credit. Turnaround time is poor. The entire ordeal, from start to finish, took 16 weeks and 5 days. We are still unhappy with the table and buffet. They don't even look the same color - splotchy and uneven stain even after being reworked. We would appreciate a refund on both as we have to get them refinished again.
Description of Work: Refinishing of washstand, desk, dining table and buffet. Replaced mirror in buffet. Attempted to make a custom leaf for the table.

He had me go in to his workshop to pick out the stain for the items - putting the different ones on the pieces themselves so that I knew exactly what the piece would look like with that finish. Satisfaction guaranteed!

 + -1 moreMY OVERALL EXPERIENCE WAS EXCELLENT. THE FINISHING ROOM GAVE ME A LOWER ESTIMATE THAN OTHER COMPANIES. EVEN WHEN THEY REALIZED THAT THE JOB WOULD TAKE MORE THAN THEY ORIGINALLY THOUGHT, THEY STUCK WITH THE LOW ESTIMATE. THE MAN WHO CAME OUT WAS FRIENDLY AND STRUCK UP A GOOD RAPPORT WITH MY SON.

Description of Work: WE HAD AN ANTIQUE DINING ROOM TABLE THAT WE WANTED REFINISHED. IN ADDITION TO STRIPPING THE TABLE AND CHAIRS AND STAINING THEM, CHIP HAD TO REBUILD PART OF THE CHAIRS AND THE TABLE. HE DID A FABULOUS JOB. THE TABLE LOOKS LIKE IT IS BRAND NEW. HE ALSO HELPED ME TO LOCATE SOMEONE TO UPHOLSTER THE CHAIRS WHICH HAD TO BE BASICALLY REBUILT TOO. HE WAS SUCH A PLEASURE TO WORK WITH. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM.
