+ 0 moreThe overall experience went very well from our initial phone conversation to the installation. After our initial phone call, Tim responded in a timely manner when I was ready to go forward with the projects. He called the day of the installation and said he would be a little late which was fine with me. He arrived when he said he would be at our home and started working immediately. I wouldn't hesitate to use Star Electric again or ecommend him to a friend!!
Description of Work: I contacted Tim, tne owner of Star Electric,about wiring my power attic fan. The fan was already installed in my roof by a roofing company, but the electrical was not connected to the fan. Tim and I talked about the scope of that project and another electrical job that I was contemplating getting done at the same time. Consequently, we agreed to set an install date later. I wanted some extra time to look for a ceiling fan with a remote light and fan control to replace the existing fan in our living room. When I was ready to go ahead with both projects Tim said let's set a date and time. He arrived on time and ready to go to work. He started wiring the attic fan and that project only took about 30 minutes to wire the control, set the humidity control and the cut in temperature for the fan. While he was working in the attic, I took the existing ceiling fan down. He then began installing the replacement fan with remote control. The remote control sending unit had to be fitted into a tight space inside the fan canopy. It made for a more tricky installation because this was a close mount ceiling installation. When Tim finished the work he took the time to review the remote control operation of the ceiling fan with me. The fan works great and the remote is fully functional. The attic fan is working fine also. As Tim was taking his tools to his truck, I mentioned that I was wondering whether I may have a problem with a circuit breaker in my panel. Tim said let's check it out and it turned out there wasn't a problem with any of the breakers after all.

All went very well and I highly recommend Star Electric for your underground electrical needs.

+ -1 moreDespite my best efforts to reach this company, I have to date not received any service. I purchased the $79 for 2 hours of electric service so that they could do some minor electric repairs to my home. I purchased the coupon in November 2011. It is now April 2012. They have strung me along for so long, stating that they would call a couple days before they could come out, but the calls never came. At one point I asked for a refund of my $79, then they responded saying they would come out...but, again, they never did. I would strongly suggest avoiding this company. Despite there cheap deal, it is not worth the aggravation of trying to hunt these guys down.

+ 0 moreHe fixed the kitchen lights for me because the chain in the wire was too long and he diagnosed the problem and corrected it. He traced the outlets that were not working, and he fixed that for me. The wiring in one outlet actually fried itself. He was very unassuming but knew his work and made the repairs without any fanfare. He was just a soft spoken nice guy. He did all of the checking and he was making sure that there was nothing wrong with them. He was very thorough and methodical and did the job correctly. I will continue to use his services in the future for any electrical work.
Description of Work: I used them for electrical services. It was one of your "Big Deals" and I paid with that and I didn't pay anything extra.

+ -1 moreIt was very difficult to reach Mr Tim Balogh of Star Electric, which I attributed being busy from the responses to the deal, purchased thru Angie's List for 2 hours of professional electric service. I called 3-4 times before I was able to speak to him; I got 1 voice message back to call him back describing what I wanted, which I had previously done already at least twice leaving him detailed messages as to what services I was interested in. I also emailed him once, describing my difficulty reaching him and again specifying what services I was requesting. I finally did reach him, early one morning about a week and a half before finally scheduling an appointment with him. It was scheduled for this morning, 3/31/2012 at 9 AM. About 1 hour and 15 minutes after the scheduled appointment time came and went I called and had to leave a voice message. He did not bother to call to say he couldn't keep the appointment or to reschedule. At this point, I am very disappointed with the promotion thru Angie's List, the difficulty reaching the provider, and the lack of a response when he failed to show for the scheduled appointment. Not very professional or reliable. I would like my money back if the service isn't going to be done.
Description of Work: The services to be performed were to install a ceiling fan and re-connect a wire to the doorbell.

+ -1 moreThis was an Angies Big Deal. I had a very hard time getting a response from Star. Once I did hear back from him, he came out very quickly. Although I had told him what jobs I needed done (3 ceiling fans and a ceiling light swaped out,) he did not have a ladder big enough to do most of it. He was able to do one fan and replace one ceiling light. He definitely knows his stuff. I think he's just over-extended right now.
Description of Work: Changed one ceiling fan and one ceiling light fixture.

+ -1 moreAfter arriving, he asked to see all that needed to be done. He then prioritized the jobs from the largest down .He worked very neatly and efficiently, until all was completed.
Description of Work: I had a new dinning room fixture installed, a light socket replaced, and a basement fixture replaced. Tim looked at my doorbell and determined that it was the chime box and not the bell that needs replacing. He was unable to install a dimmer switch in the kitchen since the tile needs to be professionally cut away so the box can fit. He agreed to come back when the necessary work is completed. .

+ -1 moreI was supposed to get 2 hours of work for $79. I call Star Electric and explained what I needed before they came out and they said that would be no problem. When they got to the house they stated of the three things I needed done (install two 120v outlets and re-run one TV cable) that they could only do one. It took them less than an hour. Therefore, I did not get the two hours promised. In addition, I ended up running the other 120v circuit myself and re-ran the TV cable. That makes me believe they really don't know what they are doing.

I explained that i have a track lighting system in my kitchen and one of the sockets needed to be replaced. He said that he would call me the next Monday to schedule a time. He didn't call so I called him again and left a message that if the job was too small, just let me know so that I could find someone else. He left another message telling me to call him. I did (again) and have not heard from him. I found another company and they responded quickly and did the work within 48 hours. It turns out that 2 lights had sockets that needed to be replaced - they were pricey but worth it.
Description of Work: Replace the socket from a light in a track lighting system.

I purchased the 2-hours of electrical work for $79 on 11/30/11.The work was not done until February, 2012. There was an additional charge of $50 because he needed a backing plate for the porch light and I wanted sensors on the garage lights. Overall I am very pleased with the result and found Tim very professional and easy to work with. I recommend Star Electric.
Description of Work: Star Electric replaced existing light fixtures on garage and front porch with new fixtures that I had purchased. There were 3 total.

Description of Work: My house is over fifty years old and needed a change from a 60 amp meter to a 100 amp. meter which Time did plus grounded my house.. In addition, there were five different fuse/circuit breaker boxes in the my home. Tim converted all into one box of circuit breakers identifying the rooms they applied to. He added extra outlets in my kitchen including a ground fault interupt and replaced two defective motion detectors.

+ 0 moreWe purchased an Angie's List special deal for $79, which covered two hours of service. We contacted Tim at Star Electric, and he came by to discuss the work we needed to have done. We needed to have two lights installed in our basement, as well as a new doorbell system to replace a nonfunctioning one. He researched doorbell systems to find one online that offered excellent range and good customer feedback. After ordering the system, he returned to our house to install it at the front and back doors. He affixed the receiver box and chimes to the wall in our hallway. It is definitely superior to the ones we've had in the past, with a loud chime which is adjustable for volume and chime type. Tim also installed two new lights in a dark area of our basement. In addition to the $79 for the Angie's Deal, we paid him $200 to cover the remaining costs of parts and labor.
Description of Work: Tim installed two lights in our very dark basement. He also researched, ordered online and installed a doorbell system for our home, including a doorbell for our back and front doors.

+ 0 moreTim was gracious and very professional--we played phone tag for a while to get the appointment set, but once that wwas done, he was prompt, quick, and open to additional work (since replacing a couple outlets & the faulty ground did not take two hours, I had him check other outlets so that I would get the most out of the Angie's list big deal). Tim explained to me the work he did, showed me what he replaced, and did not charge me for the small parts he used.
Description of Work: Tim repaired several outlets and repaired a bad ground that was causing lights to flicker.

Description of Work: fixed 2 doorbells, made outlet from loose wires that were taken from a TV i disconnected. Only problem was with timing as he had jobs he was involved with and it was about a month until he got to calls from Angie's Lis coupon--he did keep me appraised of his status and called me several times to keep me informed.

Jim showed up on time and said he could do the work within a week. Jim came back with his assistant the following Sunday and performed all the work within four hours. It was a tough job installing the wiring in a tight space. Jim shows great dedication to serving his customers!

He came back the second time to install the ceiling fan, was clean, neat, installed it correctly , cleaned up and left in no time. Very professional and I would use him again.
Description of Work: He came late in the afternoon on Dec. 7th. and installed two GFI plugs in the kitchen and additional plugs in 3 bathrooms. It was getting late so he came back on the 9th and installed the ceiling fan. He cleaned up after and was very professional.

I arrived at the property at 9:15 to be ready for him. He never showed up and never called me. I finally got him on the phone and he said that he does not like th neighborhood and doesn't feel comfortable working in it. I never saw him come by. He has wasted a lot of my time.
