SEARS HOME IMPROVEMENT PRODUCTS

The bathroom is an upstairs 4'X8' second bathroom. All of the demolition was done by us prior to us getting a quote. All we needed to be done was a LEVEL floor put in, drywall hung, and new vanity and toilet installed. We were quoted a price in early October, we paid in full (big mistake) with the work to be completed as soon as possible. After a month of waiting Sears finally called and told us our installation would begin on Dec. 19, at 9 AM, so my husband took the day off work to be home. At about 11 AM on Dec. 19 Sears called and let my husband know that the installer was not going to be able to start until the next day. Had my husband known this much earlier he could have gone to work and not wasted a vacation day! We had to purchase our own toilet because they only could get us white (we wanted black). We ordered the vanity through Sears, but on the day of installation (December 20), we were told there was a mistake and instead a medicine cabinet had been ordered and we would have to wait for the bathroom to be completed an additional 6-8 weeks. Being that we paid in full and we already waited over a month for the installation to begin and now we would be waiting an additional two months for the vanity my husband asked for the "boss" to call him and discuss what could be done. The boss never called us even though we were assured he would be in touch. We had the installer go ahead and complete everything except the vanity so we could at least have the bathroom to use. During the installation, the hot water line got broken and all the water went into the garage below onto my husband's garage computer, workbench, and stereo. The computer and stereo were both very old, so we told him not to worry about the damages. After the installer was finished he left, never asked us to check or sign off on the work. The floor is not level (2" in 4' slope), we have no vanity (so you can't wash your hands), the room was left with drywall dust all over, and we still have not heard from the "boss". When we called today to ask for the installer to come back to make the floor level we were told he will get to it when he has a chance! This was not a difficult project, it was supposed to be completed in 2 days and it as been a nightmare!!!!!!!

The salesman was very personable and knew his way around HVAC so I felt comfortable dealing with him. He made several statements leading me to believe that our current unit (4 ton) was undersized for the home and that the ac and furnace would need to be upgraded (5 ton) to bring everything in line. The price to do all of this? $11k which would include 10 years parts & labor. He would willing to finance it at 7.99% fixed for up to 15 years!! Unfortunately for Sears they were the first of three quotes. Quote number 2 says the AC unit is right sized and nothing wrong with the furnace. His quote? $3,200 which would include 10 years parts and 1 year labor (standard for industry) and 18 months same as cash. Quote 3 says the same thing as the second quote. His price? $3,600 including 10 years parts & labor and 36 months same as cash. Went with Quote 3. The amazing thing about the whole experience is how much Sears tried to say that their pricing would be in line with everyone else when in reality everyone was about half the cost with better financing options. Would not recommend using these guys for your projects without getting at least 2 additional quotes to avoid getting taken advantage of.

We had a problem with our front-loader washer. I contacted Sears and bought a service plan that offered me 1 year of service. The first serviceman came out and found the problem but needed to order a part. For the second appointment the serviceman came to the door, did not knock or ring the bell, left a note and left. Nice... took the day off of work and then he refused to come back even though we called him 10 minutes after he had left the note. So far not too impressed. Then, anotherv1.5 weeks later for our new appointment, the workman came out and supposedly fixed our washer. When we went to use it and water was pouring out of the washer and there was a banging sound coming from inside. By now it is Thanksgiving and with a house full of babies and adults it was out of control. I had resolved that I needed to go out on Black Friday and buy a new washer since we were in a crisis mode. Before the big purchase, we decided to open the machine ourselves and check to see if we could possibly fix the problem since we were going to discard it anyway. Well, low and behold, we found that the last serviceman did replace the part, but did not attach the part to the drain. Either this guy is so incompentent that he could not fix a simple problem or he intentionally left the part hanging which could have caused a fire, etc... along with the flood that occured in the laundry room and ultimately our basement. Very poor servicemen and customer service. I had to write a letter to actually get this taken care of and now I am in the process of filing a claim with Sears's insurance company. Buyer beware. The deal was too good to be true...

He did correct job. But job took only 15 to 30. Minutes. Over priced.

Made an appointment with Sears Home Improvement Products for an estimate to replace my failing ancient furnace with a new high efficiency furnace, and at the same time replace the associated air conditioner and humidifer. Duane Conner, Sales Project Consultant, came to my home on Weds Oct 17th. Gave me estimates of either $9,524.50 with a 10 year warranty, or $8,399.50 without the 10 year warranty. Duane told me I could get an additional $500 discount if I would sign up that same day. I explained I was still waiting on three more estimates, and was not prepared to sign up yet. He tried several times to persuade me to sign up right away, but I refused. Several days later, I got a phone call from Sears offering to meet with me again to offer me a significanttly lower price for the same equipment. I doubt very much if this lower price would have been offered if I had signed up the day I received the estimate, as Duane had repeatedly urged me to do. I do not believe these are good business tactics, and I decided I did not want to sign a contract for thousands of dollars for equipment I would need to rely on for many years to come. with a company that would employ these sort of tactics. I declined to meet further. After I obtained a total of four estimates, the original one from Sears Home Improvement Products was, by far, the most expensive of the four. The company I finally went with, an established company with a good reputation and good references from people I know, provided an estimate over $2,000 lower than Sears.

Very satisfied.

Part of the crew left early, the trim was incomplete, several windows were installed incorrectly and had to be redone, there were two leaks 6 months after the installation, and the company refuses to fix the repairs.

THE REP WAS VERY NICE AND PRESENTABLE, BUT HAD BEEN GOING ON ABOUT THEIR SERVICES FOR 45 MINUTES WITH NO MENTION OF PRICE. WHEN MY HUSBAND TOLD HIM HE NEEDED PRICING INFORMATION, THE REP SAID THAT IF WE WERE ONLY INTERESTED IN PRICING, THEN WE WEREN'T SEARS CUSTOMERS. HE THEN CLOSED UP HIS NOTEBOOK AND STORMED OUT OF THE HOUSE!

THE SALESMAN SEEMED TO KNOW A LOT AS HE SAID HE WAS "SEASONED" AND TALKED A "LOT". WE ARE CAUTIOUS AND I ASKED TO SEE THE WARRANTY WHEN ABOUT TO SIGN THE CONTRACT FOR 16 WINDOWS AND 2 SETS FRENCH DOORS AT 16,900. HE SAID IT WAS THERE. IT SAID WARRANTY TO BE PRESENTED AFTER WORK DONE. HE FINALLY SHOWED ME A BROCHURE WITH THE CONTRACT WHEN I COMPLAINED THERE WAS NOTHING EXPLAINED CLEARLY AS HE STATED ALL THE WORK WAS GUARANTEED. THE BROCHURE STATES THE LABOR FOR REPAIRING WINDOWS IS NOT COVERED. HE SAID I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO TRUST. THAT DID IT. I TOLD HIM I WAS MAD AND HE BLEW IT. HE LIED AND HE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING BEGINNING TO END. HE SEEMED TO KNOW I DID MY RESEARCH AND ADMITTED THIS. THUS HE COULD ONLY LIE TO COVER FOR THE WARRANTY LOOPHOLE. PLUS IT BOTHERED ME THAT HE WASN'T ALLOWED TO SHOW THE WARRANTY TO US.

IT WAS A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE, BUT I WAS CONCERNED THAT I DID NOT GET ANY BROCHURES, OR PRICING ON ANYTHING. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND SEARS AT THIS TIME.

THE WORK WAS GOOD AND I LIKE THE WAY MY HOUSE LOOKS.

ENTIRELY TOO EXPENSIVE. NO FOLLOW UP CALL TO THE INITIAL ESTIMATE. DID NOT SEEM VERY INTERESTED IN MY BUSINESS.

SALES REP VERY PROFESSIONAL. NOT PUSHY. QUOTED PRICE WAS HIGH, HOWEVER I BELIEVE THAT IS DUE TO QUALITY OF WINDOWS AND THE QUALITY OF WORK THAT THEY DO.

THEY CAME OUT TO DO A DEMONSTRATION- TURNED INTO A VERY STRONG SALES PITCH. RUDE SALES PEOPLE.
