Bob stripped, buffed and plated 8 window hinge assembles, 4 spring-loaded oven door hinges a few small trim parts and about 25 coat hooks. All are originals from our 100 year old house. The spring-loaded hinges required complete disassembly and rust removal - they look like brand new. He took incredible care rebuilding those hinges to ensure the springs were all preloaded to provide consistent closing force and the stamped logo on the hinges were preserved through his careful buffing and handling. Bob's business card lists his title as "Artisan". He is that. Although expensive, his care and handling helped us preserve these parts. It was an investment that was worthwhile. It all went well. Added photos.
Description of Work: Polish and brass plating of several antique parts.

Bob did an amazing job. Once he started cleaning it, he realized that it wasn't brass, but rather silver-plated brass. That required a more careful approach, smaller brushes, different chemicals. To even have known the difference - that speaks to the years of experience this man has. He communicated very clearly about when he'd have it finished, and right away let me know that it would take a little longer once he found out they were silver-plated. The light fixtures came back to us in a timely manner, looking absolutely amazing! They are a topic of conversation each time someone enters our dining room.
Description of Work: We had a chandelier and matching sconces from a century home in Lakewood that was original to the house, and it was in rough shape after almost 100 years of neglect and even abuse (someone lacquered it into a mustard color). It needed a thorough cleaning and polish.

Bob performed a "mission critical" job for our commercial apartment building. Bob and I talked over the phone, made an appointment, arrived on time, neatly dress, and we discussed having Bob weld a metal box that would hold a combination lock into our ornamental aluminum gate. There were 3 gates that needed this treatment, but I didn't want all 3 gates to be at Bob's shop at once, since these gates provide limited access to the property. Bob agreed to work on 1 at a time and return the gates upon completion and then take the next gate for service. Bob took the gates down, hung a temporary plywood gate so it was still usable, welded the box, took the gate and several pieces parts for reinstallation to a powder coater, returned the gate and reinstalled the gate (which was a little difficult since new cuts were also needed for the new lock). Bob's welds look like "art". Very smooth, consistent, and the overall service of overseeing the entire process made Bob a great choice of welders. I don't know of any other welders that would take the time to come to the property, review the job, make recommendations for a better solution and then oversee additional work steps that were clearly outside of "welding a box". We will definitely call Bob for any future welding needs and it was a pleasure to work with a local Ohio City person on this important job! Don't hesitate to call Bob for any of your work - one of the best contractors I have run across in a long time!
Description of Work: Bob was asked to disassemble 3 gates at Mariner's Watch, a luxury apartment complex in Ohio City, to weld a box, powder coat the work so it looked like new, and reinstall. Not as simple a task as you might think! Bob exceeded all of our expectations and did flawless work! Thanks Bob!

Everything went great. The milk chute door looks as good as new and is now stable.
Description of Work: Bob fixed an old milk chute, used as the door for our mail cubby, that I tried to repair on my own. He removed all of the old paint that I could not remove on my own, primed the door, and removed the back portion of it. (The "door" had cardboard lining inbetween two metal plates and the plates were becoming detached). Very friendly, knowledgeable, and honest.

The chrome base had broken in 3 places and he had to remove the chrome and weld the breaks to make the base solid. All while maintaining the appearance of the rest of the chrome and not disturbing the leather chair section which couldn't be separated. Bass was very careful and achieved excellent results. Work was done when he said it would be. I'd use him again - he specializing in fixing and restoring household items - something it's hard to find somebody to do competently and at a decent price. $100 isn't nothing - but compared to replacing a leather recliner it was worth it.

I had a light fixture that I purchased online and came broken. The manufacturer didn't want it back (they reimbursed me for the light) and I really liked it so I thought I would try and find a welder to fix it. I found Bob on Angie's List and gave him a call. We set up a time for me to come to his shop so he could take a look at it and see if it could be saved. He looked at it and thought he would be able to fix it. We agreed on my max price and I told him that if he got into it and didn't think he could fix for that price to call me. He called about a week or so later saying that it was all fixed and was within the agreed upon price. I picked up the fixture and it looked great. It is now hanging in my sunroom and I just love it!

Bob did an amazing job. He is courteous, professional, and extremely responsive. He had the plate cut perfectly and finished to match our existing appliances and the stove. He is a great guy and very good at his job. Cannot recommend him highly enough.
Description of Work: Our range had a stainless steel backsplash, but as it turned out it was not tall enough, and the paint behind the range was becoming discolored due to heat and fumes from the stove top. Bob came out and replaced the existing steel plate with a larger plate, custom fit for the size required.

Bob did a spectacular job in bringing these worn and corroded antique metal pieces back to life. Craftsmen like Bob who still do this sort of metal restoration work are almost impossible to find. He did a fantastic job for me and was able to complete the job in the matter of a couple of days, If you need any sort of antique hardware restored, I would highly recommend Bob Bass.

Bob did an excellent job in a very timely fashion. Two of our iron window grates were missing a tab which holds them in place over the window wells on the driveway side of our house. Bob picked up the grates, welded on tabs, painted them and then delievered them back to our house and put them back over the window wells. He was very conscientious, professional and pleasant. We were very happy with the results and would not hesitate to recommend Bob.

The experience was good and Mr. Bass was very responsive and accommodating. He returned my initial call timely, I dropped off the items on a Monday afternoon and had them back the next day. I rate the price as good because I know nothing about price for this type of service. The amount may actually deserve an excellent rating. In any event, the repair and the amount were worth it to me.

Bob picked up the grate and gave us an estimate of the cost, and a approximate time frame. A few weeks later he called, delivered and installed a beautiful grate, better than the one that was there. The new one is powder coated so it should last a very long time. We are very pleased with the work.

Although this company's location is on the west side of Cleveland, Mr. Bass has a convenient eastside pickup location at a nearby antique dealer's shop. I dropped off my brass andirons and Mr. Bass picked them up a few days later. He called me to tell me that he had the andirons. A week later, I called his shop and asked if they were done. He stated that one was completed. I mentioned to him that I was having a holiday party and really would like the andirons by that time. He stayed up late that night to get them completed. They looked more beautiful than they ever had. My father had made these andirons and they have sentimental value. Mr. Bass was very knowledgeable about how my father had constructed them which made me appreciate them even more.
Description of Work: Mr. Bass polished and refurbished 2 solid brass andirons.

I have iron window well grates and wanted to keep them. They had rusted through, with broken flanges and parts, since they were probably the original grates for a near 90 year old house. Bob had them completely remade and re-powdercoated. He kept me informed throughout the process.

Mr. Bass provided an estimate and a pickup was arranged. He picked up the chair when promised. The work was performed at the price estimated, as well as some additional painting done to finish the job more completely. He dropped off the finished product when promised. It works great!

Bob Bass was exceptionally helpful in doing this job. The restored railings look wonderful and it was especially great that Bob made multiple trips to the house, taking only one segment of railing at a time, so that there was always a railing to use going up and down the stairs. He was always on time and returned all calls promptly. I would highly recommend his services.

I e-mailed Mr. Bass and he returned my inquiry promptly by phone. We arranged for an appointment and he met me at my home at the scheduled date and time. We discussed the problems with the fixtures and agreed on a price. He took the bottom pieces of the fixtures back to his shop but called several days later and explained in detail the problem with the second fixture that had been fixed previously by another person. We arranged another meeting and he attached the broken pieces from the first fixture and picked up the entire second fixture for repair. Just a few days later he telephoned and returned the second fixture. Mr. Bass was prompt, friendly, courteous, professional and described in detail the repairs he would make. He is truly an artisan of metal repair! Its exciting to find someone who appreciates "old" fixtures and knows how to repair them. I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Mr. Bass repaired two large, heavy, antique metal exterior light fixtures from my front door. One fixture had the bottom broken in two pieces and the other had been repaired by another person but was crooked. Later Mr. Bass discovered that the second fixture had been repaired incorrectly and needed a new screw. The screw threads were an incorrect fit and had ruined those in the fixture and he needed to create new threads so the bottom pieces would fit.
