April 2018: received a verbal estimate of not to exceed $2000 for flat roof repair. 4/23 & 4/30: work performed. After next rainfall discovered roof still leaking. Called to have them come out again. 5/11: received invoice for $2260 - exceeding the verbal estimate. 5/14: follow-up work performed. After next rainfall, discovered crew patched the wrong area. Called to have them come out again. 5/24: follow-up work performed to attempt to correct the original area of concern. 5/25: received additional invoice for $1062.50 for the follow-up work on 5/14. 6/1: received third additional invoice for $675 for the follow-up work on 5/24. After next rainfall, discovered roof STILL leaking. Even though we received a verbal estimate of not to exceed $2000, the total of the 3 invoices was $3997.50 - double the estimate. My property manager attempted to contact office rep - Gwen - multiple times with no success to dispute invoices. Ultimately he did connect with Gwen, and according to her the foreman that was sent out to do the original assessment said he wasn’t qualified to do the assessment and provide a verbal estimate. Still, they wanted paid in full for services that did not even fix the problem. Ultimately agreed to pay $2500 rather than deal with them in small claims court. Found another roofing company to assess the area of concern. Upon initial inspection they immediately noticed that Preferred Roofing company used Alumicoat, which they stated offers no waterproofing protection - only UV protection. Once the new roofer performed the work with the correct materials, there have been no roof leak issues since. I would definitely not recommend Preferred Roofing - at least not for any flat roof jobs.
