They were punctual, very nice and personable, and worked very fast, and yet efficiently. They answered any and all questions I had, and showed me their work as they went, and once again when they finished. I couldn't be happier with the way things went, and I was surprised at how reasonable the price was/is. Call these guys if you have a gas problem in your home!
Description of Work: Cliff and Kevin capped and added a valve to a gas line that previously had an old, unsafe, gas furnace attached in the garage. They also put hydraulic cement over the gas duct previously attached to the furnace, ensuring no carbon monoxide leaks into the garage or house. They also uncapped a gas line in the basement, added a shut-off valve, and hooked up our gas dryer.

Purchased a deal from Angieslist. $40 for $90 of service and able to get Mayer out in 2 days. Immediate contact was awesome as usual. John (so embarrassed I cannot remember the other persons name-sorry) explained everything they were going to do. Very professional and knowledgeable. The new price for drain unclogging was $99. So this only cost us $49. Awesome price and excellent results. We will use again and again.

The work was done on a timely fashion, explaining what they would do and cost were told to us before they started the work.
Description of Work: Cleaned bathtub drain, it was clogged, and cleaned sanitary tub drain, also gave us some quotes for additional work that we may need. They arrived a bit early, two men, they explained the work they would do and what the cost is. We also asked if they could run a camera thru our sanitary drain, they had to get the correct size camera, although he was unable to get camera through the area. The sanitary tub runs quicker we still don't know if there are any other issues. He explained other costs for more work, which were not getting done at this time. One thing I like is his estimates are good up to one year, no high pressure sales. I would most likely use them again, and refer them to other family members who need a trustworthy plumber. It went well, did work on a timely fashion

The experience left me uncomfortable with Mayer plumbing and I will never use again. It all started after I purchased the $79 per drain cleaning for 2 drains(one sink and one tub with a drum trap) and when they showed up they said there was an additional service fee. After I protested and the plumber "talked to his boss" they decided not to charge me. From there, they started to snake the first drain which was running slow at the time and managed to make it not drain at all. Hence, I had a decision to make which was ripping out a wall to replace all the piping behind it. While I was thinking about this decision they started on the line with the drum trap but did not have any luck with it. I fully understand that drum traps need to be replaced so this was not unexpected. So now one sink that wont drain and a slow tub. Quote of 1800 or 1900 for drain where pipes needed replaced and removal of drum trap. After the plumber "talked to his boss" the price came down 1500. This included demo of some walls and ceilings. This seems very high to me for a day and half of work. Anyway, this is a rental house so I had to do the work and did not have much time to shop around After the pipes and drumtrap were replaced, there was another issue now. A sink was now not draining at all in the bathroom where the drumtrap was replaced. This drain was working (maybe slow) before any of this work took place. Now, for another $800 I Could get these pipes replaced. After the plumber "talked to his boss" the price was 650 if I remember correctly. This was frustrating because I felt this was something that was caused by them and I was being charged for it. Perhaps this does happen in plumbing jobs sometimes, but regardless still frustrating and expensive. Again, drain was not working at all so I agreed and they did the work. After all this work was about to be completed, I asked and they recommended that I replaced the rest of the plumbing(main stack and other drains off of it) in the house as well. I asked for a quote that came in at over 8000 for about 4 or so days of work. Is this normal? After all work was done, the drains worked well so I give a B on quality of the work only. Many other issues followed First issue we did have was with cleanup. My tenants called me and let me know that there was dust over all of their dishes and much of their food in their cabinets. They had to throw some of it away and wash many of their plates, glasses etc. The plumbers also mistakenly took a broom that belonged to the tenants. Many things that the tenants needed to be compensated for which included maids coming in to clean up. I called Mayer plumbing and was able to talk to the boss. His name is Jason and he was cordial and professional . I mentioned to him about the price and he said it was normal and I actually received a good deal. I also mentioned about the clean up and the costs to me and he said he would speak to the plumbers about it. Thanks but that does me no good after I just paid you $2100 to perform work that I thought included clean up. Lastly, I mentioned the broom that was taken from my tenants and Jason said he would return it to them. As of today, it has not been returned and the tenants have purchased a new one. Overall, many unprofessional acts that started with the service fee that I would have been charged and im sure others who dont protest about are charged. Then, zero tranparency with who was coming up with this pricing and not being able to "talk to the boss". Moving on to price which I thought was high but maybe I am wrong since I am not in the business. Last but not least the issues with cleanup and taking something that does not belong to you and not returning it. Sometimes when you get work done in your house, you feel very satisfied and happy. This obviously was not one of those cases.
Description of Work: They tried to snake a drain. Which in turn led to replacing a drum trap and several other areas of drain pipes that were very slow and old. This was a rental property of mine.

Response from Mayer Plumbing & Heating
Dear Mr. [member name removed], I regret that you were unhappy with our service. i wish you would have relayed some of the concerns you mentioned regarding pricing to me during our conversation on the phone. The main items you wanted to discuss were the dust and the missing broom. During the course of our conversation, you had agreed that the plumber did use tarps to cover and protect as much of the work area (home) as possible. This is our normal procedure when having to remove drywall. However, due to the age of the home, your house contained the old style wood lattice and plaster. the combination can generally create quite a bit of dust. Upon completion, we always try to clean the area to the best of our capability. I am not certain what food you are referring to but dusting and wiping off glasses is not usually included or a service we usually perform. I do not know any contractors that would. A for the broom, I had given that to one of my plumbers (who was working in the area) to drop off. If it was not received then I do apologize. I will be more than happy to send your tenant a gift card or a check for reimbursement. We did briefly discuss the final price of the job. As I stated, it was a fair price for the work completed for 3 days of labor for a plumber and an apprentice ( 2/3/14 from 8:30am - 10:00pm, 2/4/14 from 8:30am -5:00pm and 2/6/14 from 8:30am - 4:15pm). I had also spoken with the plumber several times throughout the course of your project in an effort to give you the best price possible. I am sorry that you were unhappy with our service. I only wish you would have contacted me directly during the course of the job so we may have addressed these concerns at that time. Sincerely, Jason

Called service provider at 10 pm on March 10th, 2014 regarding a clogged basement drain line. I have used this provider once before to clear a clog in the same drain line. On the previous occasion the clog was far enough along in the drain line that it was forcing the drain by the laundry area to back up. On this occasion the clog was closer to the point where the drain line becomes vertical and was affecting only the sinks and toilets upstairs, not the basement drains. Gentleman who answered said he would take my info and description of the problem and have someone call me back. A woman called back about 10 minutes later (whom I assumed worked for the provider) and provided pricing info for their after hours service ($89 service call, min. $250 for first hour of labor). She asked me if wanted to dispatch the provider now or wait until morning. I asked what the difference in price would be if I waited until morning. She said there would be no service call charge and charges for drain cleaning would probably be around $95 if I waited. I opted to schedule them to arrive between 8 am and 10 am the following morning. The plumber arrived the next morning and investigated the problem. He informed me that the charge for using the "medium sized" cleaning auger would be $179.00 but if that didn't clear the clog then he'd have to use the "large" auger at a cost of $269.00. I asked why the pricing was so much higher than what was quoted by the woman I spoke with the prior evening. He said "those are just the people from our answering service and they should not be quoting prices at all". I mentioned that part of why I was asking about charges was because I was a member of Angie's List and noticed that there were some coupons available for this provider's service. I also mentioned that I had used this provider before for the exact same problem (about two years earlier) and had used an Angie's List coupon at that time ($79 for drain cleaning of 1 drain). The same coupon was available this time only the price had gone up to $99.00 and did not cover the $59.00 service call. He said that it would be a good idea for me to purchase that $99.00 coupon, especially if it turns out that the "medium" sized auger was unable to clear the clog in the drain line. He seemed to struggle quite a bit with the medium sized auger, mainly because there were several bad kinks in the auger cable that prevented it from being properly extended far enough into the drain line. He even took the medium sized auger outside at one point in order to full extend the cable and attempt to straighten it. However, he was still unable to clear the clog with that machine and had to use the large auger. The clog was finally cleared after a total of about two hours of work. I presented the $99 coupon and asked him to give me a total for any remaining amount I owed. He gave me a total of $170.00. I was expecting him to only charge me for the $59 service call, per the terms of the coupon so I asked him what the full charge was excluding any coupons. He said the total charge was $269.00 because he had to use the large auger. I pointed out to him that it's nice they're willing to accept the Angie's List coupon for $99 but if I still owed $170 above and beyond that then I'm still ultimately paying a total of $269.00. He then said he'd have to call his boss. A few minutes later he returned and said that the coupon does not apply as payment in full for this type of drain cleaning because he had to clean part of the main sewer line. I told him understood that but this was the same part of the same main drain line they cleaned the last time for $79 with the only difference being that the location of the clog was actually further along in the drain line on the previous occasion. He insisted that really they probably should not have applied the $79 coupon as payment in full on the previous occasion. I'm still a little fuzzy on exactly where the demarcation is between a common waste stack in a house and the home's "main sewer" line since technically all the drains in our home connect to the common waste stack. Furthermore, the fine print details of the coupon, which I understand are written by the provider, state that the customer "must have accessible, ground level clean out for drain". I'm having trouble envisioning what type of "ground level clean out" they might be referring to other than the one that is typically available on the main waste stack (main sewer line) for the home. I can understand that for $99 they don't want to get caught up in having to dig up someone's front yard to clean out the main sewer line but we're talking about running a snake from the basement of the home for maybe 10 or fifteen feet to dislodge a clog and frankly, I'm still wondering whether he really needed to use the "large" cleaning auger because the medium sized auger was ineffective due to the cable being kinked up and in a poorly maintained condition. I will probably shop around for a different plumbing service in the future.

[member name removed], I can understand your confusion with some of the pricing as it was quoted to you. The technician who arrived at your home is still learning some of our prices. normally the $99.00 drain cleaning deal is good on all branch lines within the home such as a tub drain, kitchen drain, lav drain or similar. the drain line from the stack leading to the exterior of the home is typically considered your main sewer. When I spoke with the technician, I informed him that if he was able to open the drain with the smaller machine, the $99.00 coupon would then be accepted. If this was not relayed to you, I do apologize. We normally will not try snaking a main drain line with this machine, or at least not for very long, as it can become lodged within the piping. The only was to then remove it is by excavating the area. Unfortunately, in your case, the larger machine was required. There is a difference in pricing because the maintenance on the machine and the ability to operate it is more extenuating. This is why we typically review all pricing upfront before we start. Upon invoicing, the service call was waived and you also were given an additional $50.00 off ( a total savings of $109.00). Lastly, I know you mentioned we were able to pen the drain the last time we were at your home. I am glad to hear that. This lets me know that technician also was trying to save you money by attempting to clear a blockage which is not normally covered under the coupon deal. I would like to extend to you a FREE $99.00 drain cleaning coupon for any confusion you may have incurred. Please let me know & I will be happy to send this to you. Sincerely, Jason

PATHETIC CHEATS. They repaired a burst pipe in 1 house and attempted to diagnose a leak in another house of mine within 2 days. They were unable to diagnose the leak on the first visit to the one house and I did not have them return. The work they did to repair the burst pipe was fine. I was disappointed they could not find the leak in my other property, but my biggest problem with this company is the billing and pricing. They are unethical cheats. I bought a $40 certificate for $90 in licensed plumbing service. I planned to use this coupon on the house with the leak and they gave me a total of $90 for the failed diagnostic which should have been completely covered by the $90 coupon. All of a sudden because I had purchased a coupon through Angie's List there was a $58 service fee they forgot about. So lets do some quick math here, I paid 40(coupon)+58 = $98. The original total I was given was only $90 so it ended up costing me more money to use the Angie's List coupon. Pathetic. The unethical behavior did not stop there. I did not make a big deal about the $8, but they showed up at my other house the next day to fix a burst pipe. My fiancé was there while they did the work and the workers asked her if she had a coupon or anything because if she did they would have to charge her full price for everything, but if she didn't he could cut her deals. Seems unethical. They fix the pipe and were going to install 2 ugly plastic white panels in the same wall to cover the holes they cut to fix the pipe. They charged $300 for the panels (originally $350 but because my fiancé didn't have a coupon we got a deal!). They needed to come back the next day to install the panels, but when I got home and saw how stupid it was going to look I asked to be refunded the $300 because I was going to drywall the holes instead. They only refunded me $175 from some unknown reason. I also forgot to mention they double changed me the $58 for the failed diagnostics at the first house. I proceeded to call them around 10 times and was continually told the owner or manager would call me back right away because they were not in. After weeks or trying I finally get a call back and am told they would look into the double charge and they would check with the workers on the job and call me back about the other $125 of the $300 for the panels. They refunded me the $58 but it has been weeks and I am yet to hear back about the other $125. In conclusion: Buying the coupon from Angie's List for plumbing work will end up costing you more money and they will look for every way possible to rip you off. I would never use these crooks again or recommended them to anyone.

Response from Mayer Plumbing & Heating
[member name removed], First of all, I regret that you feel you experienced unsatisfactory service from my company. However, I do feel that calling us pathetic cheats to be very insulting. my company has been in business since 1922 & we take a great deal of pride in our customer service. If we did not, we wouldn't still be here today. Our pricing is given up front, which is why we ask for signatures before any work is performed. In regards to the first home in which you purchased the $40 for $90 deal. As I recall, the technician who was at your home spent nearly 2 1/2 hours attempting to find the source of the leak. As it was getting late in the day, we then proceeded to schedule an appointment for the following day to return & continue our search (again at no charge). This appointment was then canceled by you. You were not charged for his time there, only an $89.00 diagnostic fee plus the service charge which is not covered under any of our coupons or deals. I do not see how this is unethical in any way. Further more, you mentioned that you were double charged for the service call, that is true & as soon as you brought this to our attention, you were issued a refund to your credit card the same day. In conclusion, you paid $40.00 for the coupon plus $58.00 for 2 1/2 hours worth of work. That to me seems like a bargain. As to the second home you mentioned with the access panels. We customarily will ask if the homeowner has any coupons. this is in an effort to save them some money. Although you did not have any, you were still given several discounts towards the repairs required at the house. In regards to the access panels, upon your request to not have them installed, a refund was issued for the bulk of this cost. Unfortunately, the entire amount was not credited due to the fact that making access to repair the water lines is included in the cost of installing the panels. We use a variety of these panels in an effort to save our customers the expense of costly drywall repairs. They are standard for our industries & used by many types of contractors. Lastly, the service call for this home was waived in an effort to accommodate you since we had just work at your other home. We at Mayer Plumbing are committed to providing our customers with quality service. We take a great deal of pride in our work & the fact we have been in business for over 90 years. i once again regret that you were unhappy with our service. However, if you were unhappy with our prices, why did you agree to them? Sincerely, Jason

When we came into the house he was gone and did not fix the problem, but did give us quote of about 500 dollars to fix entire alot more then the faucet. I called and asked to speak to him, he did not call back. I called angies list and they are refunding me. Be very careful of these guys.

[Members name], We apologize for any confusion regarding your appointment. Our technician did attempt to reach you after taking a look at your plumbing issue and we would never repair anything with out the approval of the owner. Our policy is that our technicians need to get authorization before we proceed with any repairs. We also need to have a person at the home that is able to sign for & pay for the approved work. We would like the opportunity to make this right. We pride ourselves on our outstanding customer service. If you would like us to send out a different technician we would like to offer you $75.00 off the repair. Thank you, Jason

Great experience! He arrived on time, did the job quickly and efficiently, cleaned up, and gave me advice on how to prevent the problem from coming back. I was expecting to hear that the drain would be much more work and cost more, so this was all a very pleasant surprise. We had a clogged drain on December 23rd. I called Mayer's just before closing and they said that they would have someone out the next morning. At 0900, John showed up. I told him what was wrong, showed him the problem areas, and he went to work. He was very courteous and professional. He fixed the problem within half an hour, we were able to have a successful Christmas dinner with free flowing drains, and I was very satisfied. I used an Angie's coupon ($79 for drain cleaning) and saved over $150 in total cost. We have user Mayer Plumbing before and will continue to do so.

There was water damage under both toilets, so the floors and sub-floors had to be rebuilt, as well as the associated lines. It took a little longer than originally thought, but Roger let us know all the time what he was doing. They did an excellent job and we look forward to having them do more work for us.
Description of Work: They replaced two toilets and did some small work on our min bath tub and sink.

The plumbers were very nice and professional. However, I purchased the $79 Angie's List Deal to clear one clogged drain. When they arrived, they informed me that on top of the $79, I had to pay a $59 service call charge. The service fee is not noted on the Angie's List deal.

I called first thing in the morning and was told I would have someone at the house "after noon." After a couple of calls to the office they finally arrived at 6:30 p.m. The two plumbers were very friendly and professional. The sewer had backed up and we had waste pooling on the basement floor. There was no clean-out, so they had to remove a toilet to access the sewer. I was charged $199 to take the toilet off and put it back on. I felt really taken advantage of with that pricing, but I couldn't turn them away at that point because our problem needed immediate attention. Unfortunately, 8 days later the sewer backed up again. I decided to call another plumber who came out and augered the sewer again at less than half the price. I was told by the other plumber it was likely they (Mayer Plumbing) used a snake that was not sufficient for the job, as he was able to more thoroughly clean our line with larger equipment.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. The price was good but they didn't fix my problem. It didn't leak for a couple of months but last month it started leaking again so we are not using that bathroom. The service was good but the problem wasn't fixed.
Description of Work: I used Mayer Plumbing & Heating because I had a leak in the bathroom. They couldn't find the problem but they used some special glue.
