+ -1 moreI had called Shane to get an estimate for a new fireplace surround. I met with him and discussed what I wanted to have done. Upon his request, I emailed him some design ideas. He said he would get back to me with an estimate. He never did. No professionalism.

Description of Work: We needed some carpentry work done to improve the design of the rails on our back porch.

+ -1 moreHe is extremely knowledgeable about restoration. He has great contacts with others in his field. He is very trustworthy and hardworking. He always calls to tell us when he will be here to work and is very reliable.
Description of Work: He is working on a number of outdoor and indoor carpentry projects. He helped us rebuild an outdoor roof with detailing and also rebuilt some window boxes. He will be working on some cabinets this winter.

+ -1 moreShane is a fabulous carpenter and extremely helpful and nice. He did an extraordinarily neat job of opening up the ceiling to access the stairs, and repairing them so that they no longer separated and creaked. He was very careful not to mar the wood, and to preserve the beauty of the stairs. Shane was also great with a few smaller jobs like an access panel for the 3rd floor and very accommodating with a surprise job trimming down a small door that no longer fit to close. He's terrific!
Description of Work: Repaired the front staircase in a Shaker Heights home and did a few other smaller carpentry jobs.

+ -1 moreHe squeezed me into his schedule so it wouldn't hold up my painting job. He matched the type of wood and profile of the wood into the moulding. He was prompt and professional. The wood looks good. He couldn't give me a price before he started the work.
Description of Work: They replaced 2 pieces of wood on the exterior of my home that was rotting.

ALTHOUGH THE PROJECT WAS MORE INVOLVED THAN WE HAD ORIGINALLY THOUGHT IT WOULD BE, HIS PRICE WAS WITHIN THE RANGE OF OTHER ESTIMATES WE RECEIVED, THOUGH ON THE HIGHER SIDE. HE IS WELL WORTH THE PRICE, HOWEVER, BECAUSE HE IS OBVIOUSLY PROUD OF & PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS WORK. HE ALWAYS KEPT US UPDATED ON THE STATUS OF THE PROJECT. HE HAS A REAL APPRECIATION FOR HISTORICAL PRESERVATION & THE CHALLENGES OF FIXING AN OLDER, ARCHITECTURALLY UNIQUE HOME.
Description of Work: WE HIRED SHANE TO REPLACE OUR FRONT AWNING OVER THE FRONT DOOR OF OUR SHAKER HEIGHTS HOME, WHICH WE PURCHASED LAST YEAR. THE COPPER ROOF OF THE ORIGINAL OVERHANG HAD LEAKED INTO THE WOODWORK OVER THE YEARS, & THE WOOD ROTTED & NEEDED EXTENSIVE RENOVATION. IT HAD BEEN REPAIRED, CHEAPLY & BADLY, BY SEVERAL PREVIOUS OWNERS, BUT IT WAS BEYOND REPAIR THIS TIME. SHANE TOOK PICTURES OF EVERYTHING BEFORE HE STARTED WORK, & ENDED UP DEMOLISHING/REMOVING THE EXISTING AWNING & BUILDING A FABULOUS REPLACEMENT WHICH EXACTLY MATCHED- & IN MANY WAYS SURPASSED- THE ARCHITECTURAL & STRUCTURAL DETAIL OF THE ORIGINAL. THAT'S NOT AN EASY THING TO DO FOR AN OLDER (1937) SHAKER HEIGHTS HOME!
