Lanhan Landscaping & Design

The job was done in a timely fashion, as agreed. We did have an issue with one item that will be resolved as agreed.

I'm preparing to sell my house, and therefore wanted to make sure that the outside looked very appealing. Lanhan Landscaping responded quickly to my initial phone call, and Neal came out to my house to talk about what I needed done. I've never had any landscaping done, but I thought the quote was quite reasonable for the work I needed done. I was particularly happy that they mailed me a copy of the estimate, since my email was incorrect. The work was done within a week of me returning the estimate, and I can't be happier. The work looks great, and they even cleaned the weeds out of my front and back brick paths, which we didn't discuss. They left my yard and driveway very clean. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the work Lanhan Landscaping did on my property and would happily recommend them to others.

We could not be happier. Neal came up with a truly unique design compared to the other companies we talked with. His design not only transformed the appearence of our home, it made it more user-friendly to compensate for the mobility disablities that I have. I don't know if I have ever seen a crew that worked as hard in this summer's heat as this crew. A \job that I thought would take 2 weeks was completed in 4 days. They were neat and cleaned up every day. Neal has a great eye when designing and made changes on site that enhanced our home. His knowlege on plants and landscape design is truly impressive. I cannot reccomend this company enough. We are saving money to de more projects in the future. Hire them, you will not regret it.

They did a great job. They had a small crew and were finished with the entire job by 4:00. A few days before they started, they called to make sure that with the current heat wave, they wanted to make sure someone would be available to water everyday. They wanted to make sure we weren't planning to go on vacation and let the plants die. So they obviously care that the plants do well and that the customers are happy. I would definitely hire them again.

We gathered ideas and cost estimations to do a retaining wall and paver patio. I gave everyone that came out the same guidelines of the work to be performed. These folks were prompt and passed my initial test of how they would handle the construction. I like some of the ideas they had, but the costs were a little high. I felt as though if I had hired them they would do a good job for me.

See above. If they had an opening, I would try them for lawn care in the future.

They worked out real well. They were all on vacation so I couldn't get a response, but when he got back everything went very smoothly.

THEY ARRIVED AT 8:30 A.M. ON 9-15-2011 AND THE JOB WAS COMPLETED ABOUT 7 :00 P.M. ALL ASPECTS OF THE JOB WENT SMOOTH AND I AM PLEASED WITH THE OUTCOME.

It went really well. The crew was on time and efficient. When they were finished, they explained how to care for the yard and how to clean off the windows where the spray got onto the basement windows. They cleaned up nicely as well.

The folks at Lanhan are terrifc. Everything from the initial call to completing the work was done in a timely and professional manner. They came out when promised for the estimate, provided ideas and suggestions to fix our wobbly stacked stone wall. We received other estimates and Lanhan was competitively priced. The work was completed on time and exceeded our expectations. We plan on giving them more work.

Neal was very knowledgeable and had great ideas. They are perfectionist. Did a great job just like I wanted it.

Neil Goldweber was 100% professional the whole way. He came out and did a thorough assessment and then gave us a complete estimate. After the rains finally ended, Neil and his crew were able to come out and they did a fantastic job. It looks just beautiful! We needed a railing from the patio level out into the backyard. Neil hand built it to match the other railings- no running out to the home improvement place for a generic one! They planted some lovely low maintenance plants along the border and they are doing great. He even reminds me to water them! The brick walkway along the side of the house was caving in, so the crew had to completely take it out, redo the bed, build up the collapsed section and reintall the brick. It looks brand new and is safe to walk on now. There was a landing there also that needed attention and Neil went well above what would have sufficed to do something that would really last. I am so very impressed with Neil's attention to detail and his knowledge of what would work and look the best. We trusted him all the way and are not sorry. I know if I have any problems all I have to do is call. Lanhan takes great pride in their work and I know they will respond and fix it if they can.

Within the first year the Hydrangea seemed to fail, but Neil G. essentially said to give in more time. The following year we had him back (after numerous phone calls) because they had failed and to his credit those were replaced. Unfortunately those plants also died and we subsequently were told by another landscaper that Hydrangea would not have grown where they were planted. Rather than call Neil back we just gave up assuming that loss. As to the Viburnums, we asked Neil G. if there was anything we needed to do to maintain them when he had come back to look at the Hydrangea and he said nothing had to be done. After the first year they were never in great shape but their deterioration became more apparent this past spring. At that time a neighbor told us that they were infested with the Viburnum leaf beetle and that the shrubs were going to be dead. We then researched the Viburnum leaf beetle only to discover that their presence in Ashtabula County was known in 2005 and with further spread into nearby counties, including Cuyahoga in 2007 per the Ohio Dept of Agriculture website. Needless to say, the shrubs are absolutely stripped of all leaves this time and appear to be "dead". As we would have expected that Neil should have known of this potential problem in 2007 he should not have designed his plan to include them. If these 13 shrubs (they are probably 15 feet tall) had died without any information available about this pest problem, it would be our problem, but for a "professional" company to plant diseased shrubs that it should have known were at high risk of this disease is unacceptable. When you pay this amount of money you expect that the company would be aware of this pest problem, and not recommend their use. On May 23 I sent an email containing the above to Mr. Lanhan and stating "Please advise whether you are willing to do something to address this serious problem, and if so, what." Mr. Lanhan has not responded. If he had responded, I was going to ask that the dead shrubs be removed and replaced at no cost to us, despite of the time elapsed since their planting as apparently the growth of the beetle and the damage to the shrubs takes the few years that it has taken before the shrubs are killed.

This company is excellent to work with. Neal Goldweber was always available for consulting and is a master gardener who is willing to give advice. He backs up his products and has an efficient crew. Will continue to use this company.

This is the second time that I have called upon Lanhan landscapers to transform my yard into a beautiful space. Mr. Goldweber is very talented, honest, and patient! I appreciated the time he spent with me explaining the proposed design and also his willingness to work within my budget. The work was done over several days by a very professional crew. My Goldweber communicated often with me during the work phase and afterward, throughout the summer, made several follow-up visits to make sure that the lawn and plantings were doing well. I am very happy with my new front yard. The graceful, curved stone pathway and the high quality plants and shrubs have added both beauty and interest to the entry to my home!

They were prompt, punctual and gave a really good explanation of what they would do. I liked their design ideas.

A great experience from start to finish. We worked with their designer who created the design transforming an unused area off our basement sliding door into a beautiful area suitable for entertaining, relaxation, and contemplation. The project included major excavation of the area, tree removal, placement of large size stones, planting shrubs, flowers and ornamental trees, design and installation of complex paver pattern to make an attractive outdoor showplace. They did the job on time and within budget. We would highly recommend Lanhan.

They called me back, but I had already decided to use someone else. I explained this to them and they were very polite and helpful.

He quoted me a price of $105/hour by phone and was booked several weeks out, so I decided to go with another company. However, the phone call was professionally satisfactory.

After going over the design with me, they set a date and completed the entire job in one day. Just as promised. Each day as the grass grew in the yard looked even better.

Neal and his crew arrived on time in the morning and began the difficult task of removing the 4 Austrian pines from a bed in the backyard. After the pines were removed, the bed was reshaped and 5 viburnum and some plants were planted. It was quite a job and I appreciate all they did on this bed as it looks fantastic. Plants were added to another bed in the backyard (which was empty) and this bed was mulched. In the front yard, two trees were trimmed, some shrubs were removed, some shrubs were moved and the beds were mulched. The leaf bearing shrubs were trimmed. The crew worked until early evening. I appreciated that they were very careful not to trample the neighbor's grass. I was disappointed in the mulch that was used as it contains a bit of ground up trash that we have been removing.
