Gilbert & Gilbert Construction

This is the second job I've done with Gilbert & Gilbert, and I plan on using them again. They do excellent work, are very reasonably priced, and can usually get to my job quickly. Last year, they rebuilt my front steps (which look fantastic), so I turned to them again for the tuck-pointing. Greg Gilbert is responsive to my calls, and I can always get in touch with him when I need him. When some additional, unexpected work arose on the back stair rebuild -- as happens with old houses - Greg warned me immediately, and the price increase was quite fair, given the additional work. His quotes are detailed and clear, and always reflect what we've talked about and what he actually does.

Mr. Gilbert was very responsive and understood exactly what we needed for a small job. I appreciate the time and effort he put in to do this. We had an old coal shoot that needed to be pulled and filled at the basement level of our foundation. He matched the exterior bricks and interior bricks perfectly. We was quick and was able to do the job within a week of me calling.

Went better than expected

Despite the fact that Greg Gilbert sounded extraordinarily rude on the phone the first time we called, we called again and scheduled an appointment with him for the following Saturday morning (he noted he couldn't come out during the week, so we canceled plans and stayed home). He was to arrive between 8 and 9a. At around 10a, we called him to see if he was on his way. He told us that his sister, who apparently does the scheduling, should have told us Sunday morning between 8 and 9a, not Saturday morning. Okay. One weekend morning wasted, but we could live with that. So we canceled our plans for Sunday morning to be here when he arrived. Sunday morning at 8 o'clock, then 9, then 10, then 11, and nothing. No call, no message, no apology for not showing up on Saturday morning OR Sunday morning. It's Monday night, and I've still heard nothing from him. If he can't even show up for an estimate--and can't even call to cancel--what would happen if I gave him thousands of dollars down? Oh, wait. I know.

We were extremely pleased with the quality of the work and would be happy to recommend Mr. Gilbert.

I had no difficulties whatsoever arranging for an estimate. His polite office manager promptly arranged for an estimate. Upon meeting Mr. Gilbert within a day or so after my call, I was immediately impressed with his knowledge of masonry. He was professional and courteous. A few days following our initial meeting, I received a nicely prepared written estimate. The estimate was comprehensive and the fees were fair. I was pleasantly surprised that he and his crew arrived promptly on the first day work commenced on my home. His crew was skilled, hard-working and very pleasant. The extensive repairs on my home took only 4 days because they came every day and worked a little later when needed. Today the work was completed and I could not be happier. The bricks and mortar perfectly match. Everything is up to code, and it looks beautiful. I was fortunate to find Mr. Gilbert on the list.

After speaking with seven local masonry contractors and obtaining written estimates from them, we chose Gilbert and Gilbert Masonry to undertake the entire work we needed. We did have multiple phone conversations with Mr. Gilbert to explain what and how his crew would complete the Masonry work on the garage and the window frames once the glass block windows were being installed. This helped us greatly in choosing his Company to complete our window installations, and the brick and mortar replacement on the garage. Initially another competing Contractor's estimate was nearly 'triple' the cost we actually ended up paying, and two or three of these other masons we tried to call back, were unresponsive after leaving multiple messages for them. The response time from Gilbert and Gilbert Masonry's owner was pretty quick if he was available to talk. Then other times it took a couple of calls and we got to reach him (within a day or two) on almost every interaction. We found The Gilbert & Gilbert masonry crew were skilled in masonry practices and they performed the brick course work needed on the garage (once they began the work) in a timely and professional manner when they were on site! The replacement of the garage window lintels and installation of the glass block windows were impressive, thorough and the masonry work repairs this crew performed was well executed or above average. The final price charged us seemed to be fairly estimated from what we weren't really sure what it would or should cost after all was completed. However, it is difficult to exact a price on quality work before it is performed regardless of what the trade is. We believe we received quality work performance for the price we paid. Having the work completed properly and feeling totally satisfied with any Contractor is the end result everyone wants to experience; so we would highly recommend Mr. Gilbert and his crew if you have to have any Masonry work done; especially on an older structure like ours is. This contractor honestly answers all questions we directed to him over the phone and approaches his work from a Christian-based ethic and performance for others. In my interaction with him over the phone he tried to answer my questions as much as he could even before being involved in our project. Mr. Gilbert is a courteous and experienced professional and made every effort to speak with me in layman terms when explaining what and how the work would be accomplished. We respect him for that and we appreciate the work his crew accomplished for us.

I highly recommend Gilbert & Gilbert. They have done other major masonry projects for us, and we have been very pleased with the results. Mr. Gilbert is professional and detail-oriented, committed to doing an outstanding job at reasonable cost. Masonry work is very expensive, and his company gives excellent value. He also does the work when he says he is going to do it.

This company has done stonework and masonry for two generations, and their expertise shows. Our home presented a number of challenges to the crews, and Greg Gilbert's knowledge and vision met them head-on. The result of this company's work is solid, reliable, and attractive masonry. Others in our neighborhood have noticed the quality and beauty of this company's work, and have taken advantage of them. I would highly recommend them to anyone needing masonry work.

It went very well, unfortunately his father passed away during the time, so of course he had to take off some days regarding the funeral. However, he did fantastic job.
