I love the way the kitchen turned out. This is the second project they did for me. The first one was a bathroom. I've very impressed with everyone at Gerome's & everyone involved in the remodel. On time, done when promised. Excellent work.
Frank came to our house on time on a Saturday morning to give us an estimate for our Master Bath. He was polite and listened to what we had in mind but he also dismissed some of our ideas because he said it would be rather costly and complicated. He said he would call on Tuesday of the following week with a price. Its now been approximately 4 months later and we still haven't heard back from him or anyone from the company.
Description of Work: The provider only came out to the house to look over the job we needed an estimate for.

April 7, 2016 On January 2, 2016 - Frank Marvaldi went to their house and discussed their layout, took measurements and immediately did new layout. On January 4, 2016 - (Monday) Frank Marvaldi called them to come into showroom for product selections. So he can give them an intelligent price. Have not heard from her since. Still have layouts, but need detailed information to confirm pricing. Would be happy to talk to them again! I call them again today 4-7-2016.

I was very pleased with their professionalism, courtesy and punctuality. We made an appointment, picked out granite , sinks and faucets. Mark directed us to professional granite suppliers who were very helpful and courteous. He personally came to review the finished work after he came to our home to sign the contract. He was very responsive. I would very much recommend their work.

Most of it was OK, but the shower pan was did not last , broke apart within 18 months and had to be demolished & replaced at substantial cost that I had to pay. I felt that the problem was a defect in construction and planning, but that opinion was not shared by Geromes. I did not have Geromes do the repair work.

Job was sold in 2010 not 2012 [Member information removed] November 12, 2013 Re: Shower Stall Damage – Master Bedroom Bath First call from Doug received Monday November 4, 2013 indicating damage in stall. Original job done December 2010 (2 ½ years later). Indicated he saw damage in August of 2013 and did some caulking and repairs on his own. After having send carpenter and tile man (Nov. 8, 2013) who did the original job to inspect damage, we can note the following: 1. The floor joist is approximately 1/8” to ¼” off level, which is a tolerable space over time. This area looks structionally well. We did see a water spot of subfloor which probably originated from shower side wall gap to floor tile. 2. After having spoke to our Granite fabricator and showing the close up picture of the shower curb, he has indicated that he made the Granite sill in one piece neo-angle and that only a severe movement could have severed that sill which was 1 ¼” thick. Thusly, water poured through that area which helped loosen tile on outside of curb and inside stall base. 3. The side wall of stall has also moved (where Doug installed large caulk joint, and also reset an area of floor tile. This also reflects some movement in this area, as well. 4. The method used in this installation has been done thousands of times with no problems. (concrete base and nylon liner)’ At this point, we don’t know what caused this movement. The floor below looks solid and the side wall also look sound, but was subjected to some erratic movement, since all the bath floor tile is still stationery and well. We don’t know if there is an unusual amount of weight that shower side wall or if there was a minor earthquake that caused some movement. We will check with the local weather bureau. We will be happy to help you with these repairs. The tile is still available as well as the Granite. However, we do not feel that this damage is from our installation, as well as being beyond our normal warranty. Please give our office a call so we can further discuss this. Thank you, Frank Marvaldi Gerome’s Trisha & Doug Bell 1431 Homestead Creek Broadview Hts., OH 44147 November 13, 2013 Dear Trisha & Doug After making several inquires I have found the following: 1. This was a complete bathtub take out and conversion to a tile glass enclosed shower stall. The demo, tile work, and glass work went well and was on time. There were some issues that will prevent me from using the company again, however, as noted below. I had asked the owner to put in a new vent fan in a complete shower install. When the job got was done, I had discovered the workmen unattached the vent tubing from an existing fan and tied it into the new one they installed. This left the existing vent van useless (it was over the toilet area) and merely venting air into the attic. When I asked the owner about this he said he supported the decision and would not make any changes. There was no resolution. The second issue came with the shower head install. The plumber asked me what height I wanted it at, and I said "I don't know, use what is the normal height. There should be guidelines." When they installed it, it was too high for my wife to reach the diverter on the unit. The owner said that it was my decision to put it at that height. Rather than argue, I asked how it could be fixed. He sent out a different plumber who put on an extension for nearly $200. I agreed to pay for it, since I just wanted the job too be done. The plumber even asked "why did you have it installed that high? We have a standard height." (That's what I had asked for in the first place.) I reluctantly paid the plumber, since I had agreed to it. I called the owner and said I should get a refund for the $200. He said the plumber shouldn't have stirred up problems by telling me that (the truth). After several minutes of arguing, I let it go. The job was done, and the tile work, etc., was done well--very well. Unfortunately, the owner was so difficult to deal with that I have not used them for other jobs, nor can give a recommendation.
Description of Work: The job entailed taking out an existing bath tub and shower stall enclosure and installing a tile one with a glass door, upgraded hardware and new vent fan.

We did not provide this service to [Member Name Removed] nor is he one of our clients. I contacted Angie's List to report this error & have made zero impact on my appeal. I have made several attempts to communicate w/ various employees but never succeeded in having this review removed. It's obviously an error on Mr. [Removed Member Name] 's part or a staff member. There is no record proving we performed this job, but they will do nothing to correct it, yet they continue to solicit us for paid advertising w/ them. It all comes down to money which came from a paying customer [[Removed Member Name] ] so we have no recourse. Shame on Angie's List for making very little effort to rectify this mistake. Ironically they are in the business of rating companies as per workmanship, integrity & reliability; which they lack. I rate them a D- ! I will be reporting this to the FTC as to how they irresponsibly post false information regarding our company. Lynne Jerome

Job is 4 years old - never received a phone call. job completed 6-28-2011. 1. Owner claims spout "fell off" wall. Delta faucet rep indicated - 8/3/2012 if white plastic cartridge on spout is cracked - this spout damage did not occur through normal usage. We went ahead and sent a new spout anyway, which we paid for. Have bill to substantiate. 2. Owner called office on 7-19-2012 and used "foul language" with our receptionist. 3. How does owner indicate in his grading that carpentry was unfinished and then proceeds to say "Al" the carpenter was very good?? 4. All name brand products were used in this installation. Kohler, Sterling, Delta, Panasonic 5. After 8-2-2012 we never heard from them again.

Everything went as expected. They started the job when they said they would, and the carpenter was here every day for the demo and cabinet installation. He did a beautiful job installing the cabinets. Because our house is almost 90 years old, he had to deal with floors and walls which were not square and plumb. He also did some custom work to give our free standing stove a built in appearance. The plumber and electricians were also very professional and courteous, and the entire team worked together seamlessly. The countertop was handled by a subcontractor and they were as punctual and professional as Geromes team. We are very pleased with our new kitchen and would highly recommend Getomes.
Description of Work: Removed the old cabinets, ceramic tile floor, laminate countertop and ceramic backsplash. Installed new maple cabinets, granite countertop, stainless steel sink, and luxury vinyl floor. Added 10 pot lights, a garbage disposal, and a microwave/convection/ hood combination. They also added additional cabinets and counters in the breakfast nook.

Gerome's service made me fee like a queen-they were considerate of my opinions and were prompt and reliable. Their expertise and advice was appreciated, especially when I toured the outlet store for the fixtures, all quality products. They accompanied me and answered all my questions. I still love my new bathroom. Additionally, I was impressed that they never once tried to get me to "invest" in anything more expensive, even though there were times when I, myself, would get carried away. They gently would bring me back down to earth and remind me of my budget. And it worked. I got the perfect bathroom and stayed within my budget.

A two week job turned into 2 and half months. Not one item came in on time or correct. Ordered Cherry Cabinets, but the sides were not cherry and quot;because someone forgot to order the skinsand quot; they had to be ordered 2 more times to get them right and one was still missing. When that last one came in an inch short, them just put it on and threw a cheap piece of wood over it and never said a word, this is the most prominent area of the cabinets. Fixed it myself 5 out of 15 cabinets were broken, but the only one I was told about was the one where the door was busted off the other 4 they just put up and left them for me to find. The door handles came in wrong and I was left with tape on my cupboards for almost a months. Electricians cut a few corners Plumber forgot to glue the pipes together and it leaked all over my new cabinets ( i had to fix myself do to timeliness) Left the old cabinets in my garage for almost a months before I got sick of it and hired someone to clean it up, I could see leaving it there for a week if that is what the job took, but 3-4 weeks really! After all was said and done no apologizes, they asked for more money instead I paid just to end it leaving my to fix the cabinet trim, with one cabinet cracked (oh forgot to mention the door that fell off after 1 week) with trim nail head sticking out the front of 2 of the cabinets, Bottom line is things happen when you work on an old house, I never felt like my job was a priority. Every worker that showed up was getting a phone call 30 minutes after they got there asking them when they would be done and how soon they could get to another job. I had things damaged that no one owned up to. Every time I brought something up they acted like it was my fault several things were mentioned and then forgotten, biggest item was a custom pantry cabinet that was in the original quote, but we decided that the space would be better left open so we canceled it the next day. I was told it was about 7-800 dollars but after bringing it up several times I never got a written response and sure enough at the end they said it was never quoted and did not want to give me the refund. I paid good money to get a good job, I paid extra for nicer granite and handmade tile, it was clear I was more interested in a good job and a nice kitchen then in saving pennies.

Time situation: Due to timing of picking out their tile and Granite. The tile they selected was chosen after the job was started and it was a special order 4 to 6 weeks lead time. It was not that the cabinets were ordered in wrong that is the way the company makes them. The sides of the cabinet will darken to match the fronts. One cabinet was damaged during shipping. We ordered them a new cabinet. The electrician is a state license, bonded and insured electrician. At the time of payment Mr. Gerome gave them a personnel apology. He went over the upgrade charges with them. Our clean-up service went to their house twice - their garage door was locked. They knocked on their door and they did not answer. He went their twice in one day. Their door never fell off it was loose at the hinge. We make ALL our jobs a priority. We also need customer cooperation. We surrendered two drawings. Last and final drawings did not have that cabinet in them and it was not priced in the contract. Granite was an exotic color and an upgrade. Same with the tile. He knew this before we ordered the material or installed the material. He received a professional job.

Our kitchen renovation went seamlessly. We worked with Tony Gerome. He made sure the materials needed for the progress of the work where available to the team of workers. Cupboards and appliances were ordered and delivered so the work could progress. The original timeline was maintained. As the work progressed, the crew chief made sure we knew who was coming and when. Each morning he made sure to clarify any questions we had. Although the cost of the entire kitchen was more than the original estimate, it was due to our upgrades in electrical additions, countertop material and backsplash materials. We are extremely pleased with the overall outcome.

The price was medium. I got one bid that was lower but at that point it wasn't specific yet. I thought it was nice and understood for what I wanted. It went fine. So far everybody that I have dealt with had been fine and professional, and nice. I had somebody else with plumbing that came and looked at everything, and it was more detailed. Gerome's wrote up an estimate like he said the faucet, but he didn't say specifically what faucet, and didn't go over with me to pick out a faucet, whereas with another company I specifically went over papers with him, and I went to look at the faucets and he explained more about the differences with the faucets. Each place that I had come out and talked to, you learn a little bit. Another company was much more detailed with exactly how he was going to do it, and why he was going to do it that way. I haven't gotten the price from him so his price could be really high like the first guy's price. Gerome's came out right away and gave me the quote. The other places haven't come back with a quote yet which I am waiting for. I actually went out to their place. They wanted me to come out and look at the fixtures and different things that I could put in there. He discussed that and went over that with me, but he hasn't come with a price yet. I would consider using them. I think if the bid was similar to what Gerome's did, I probably would go with another company because they seemed to be more detailed and specific on what exactly they are going to do, but if they are much higher I will not go with them because it has to be cost effective too.

I called and gave salesman the materials we had chosen. Salesman came prepared. We explained the design and scope of the backsplash. He measured and gave us a quote immediately with a contract. The contract stated the down payment and terms. We signed it and after a few weeks (waiting for the tile to come in) we scheduled an installation date. Workers were polite , punctual and did a great job. Very pleased especially with the price.

He was on time. He was very professional, nice looking man but his prices were ridiculous. They will have to remove my but, remove the vanity cabinet, the medicine cabinet and reset the toilet and he would install like a new tub plus put the shower on the wall and new shower doors and the floor and faucets. I think that was kind of expensive.

The work was good. My problem was with the main office. Another person had been working on installing a ceiling light fixture in my kitchen and ran into a gas line that he wanted to remove. We thought it was disconnected, but when he started working with it, the gas was on. He quickly capped it temporarily and I wanted someone to do a permanent cap. I also wanted to find a person or company to start on several longer term projects around my house, mainly in the kitchen and four bathrooms upstairs. I got a recommendation from a friend who had Gerome's do their bathroom, and so I went to talk to them immediately. I thought this little pilot project would give me an idea of how their work was and what the company was like to deal with. They wouldn't give me an estimate on capping a gas line. (They didn't explain why they wouldn't. I can usually accept something if somebody tells me why.) Since I was really nervous about the gas line and the nearby electrical fixture, I went ahead anyway, even though I was unhappy not having an estimate. The workman came when he said he would and he did a good job. He was very friendly and polite. The work took about 20 minutes, probably less. I asked him how much it would be and he said he couldn't tell me - the people in the office would send me a bill. The bill arrived and it was for $125.00. I decided I would not go with them for my remodeling jobs because if they were so coy about giving me an estimate on something small and it turned out to be so expensive, doing the same with a big job could be an unexpected financial disaster. It would be really unreasonable to go into any large project with people who don't want to talk to you. My friend's bathroom looked great - I'm sure the workmen were good, like the one who came to my house - but I could not see going into any kind of deal with a company that decides prices after the fact and doesn't really want to be bothered talking to you.
Description of Work: capped a gas line we thought had been disconnected years ago but was still under pressure with gas; it was next to a new light fixture that had been installed

The job was completed fast and on schedule while we were out of town for 2 weeks. The workers were very punctual and none of them had "sticky fingers". The only disappointment was that some of the grout on the wall in the shower started to fall off after 3 months. We called to report the situation and were told that they would call us to schedule an appointment and come out do to a touch up. We talked to the gentleman who managed our project twice after that and asked him to schedule the repair but nothing ever happened. That's why we gave a D for responsiveness. Their responsiveness was excellent from the beginning of the project to the end so we were very let down when they did not come back when we experienced the grout problem after only 3 months. It's a shame because, while we can't speak to other projects that they have done, we thought the end result was a good value, we thought they moved fast, and we were content with the results. We only wished they would have come back to fix the grout.

What started out as a great experience after my tile was installed turned out to be a horrible one with work that needs to be repaired by a different contractor. Several things to do when hiring Gerome’s Kitchen and Bath in Cleveland: 1) hide any products you don’t want ruined and be ready to be threatened if you look for Gerome’s to right their wrongs……..specifically I had them install a vanity and the contractor didn’t fully install my furniture rail and end panels because he didn’t look around to find it or think to call…no problem right?...well on his 2nd trip to finish the incomplete installation he cut the $50 rail in half to make a filler that I didn’t want installed and now it looks completely unprofessional and I have to buy a new furniture rail. I requested a credit for the $50 piece Bob the contractor cut in half and Frank from Gerome's said “I’ll take you to court before I pay you that $50 and then I’ll charge you for overtime on top of that!”..true story… this guy is very disrespectful to his customers and the customer is at fault when Gerome's makes a mistake apparently…this is 100% factual…Gerome’s threatened to take legal action against me over their $50 mistake…just be prepared to deal with that 2) double check what they charge you if you pay by a credit card as they overbilled me and had to credit me back after I called them out…they never notified me they overcharged my credit card; 3) be there when they are doing your job so it’s satisfactory…I’m stuck with a $2,500 vanity (that’s the supply cost, not the labor) that has a gap on the side and a big wood filler sticking out with white caulking spread unprofessionally in between grey paint and black vanity…the contractor didn’t make my vanity countertop flush with the wall and I have to pay someone else to get it fixed now; 4) tell them to clean up after themselves and use their own tools….I had to clean up after every single contractor that came in, the vanity guy “Bob” used my miter box saw and left a mess behind…not to mention his caulking job looked like it was done by my 3 year old nephew had to be repaired/cleaned; 5) don’t let them nickel and dime you….specifically I was supposed to get my shower door installed and the contractor knew exactly what door I was buying to have him install and when he got to the job he said they need another $150 to install it because it required someone to stand there for 10 minutes to hold my 7 foot tall shower door, and they scheduled it for 4 days after the initial installation date. I agreed to the cost then soon cancelled thereafter; 6) take a tape recorder with you for every meeting because even though you tell them one thing they’ll tell you they were told otherwise…specifically, I told Frank about 12x24 shower tiles to be installed and even ordered the tile through Gerome’s and he gave me a hard time about it because they were difficult to install. At my job if I have a difficult task for a customer I don’t tell the customer they are at fault, I just do what I need to do. He said I never told him about those size tiles which is really confusing to me considering I ordered them through his Company’s contract at Dal Tile in Beachwood! Again, I never told them to install that filler in my vanity but they did it anyway and the guy said he thought I told him to do it and was putting words in my mouth and blaming me the customer for his mistake…My thought is for $3,000-$4,000 in labor for less than 2 days of work it’s ok to put forth a little effort and make a phone call before you do something the customer didn’t tell you to do; and finally 7) don’t rely on them for “thinking on their feet”…specifically the plumber installed my $300 showerhead in my $3,000 shower at a height that was a couple inches above my head…you’d think these guys through the years would think that you would not want the showerhead sitting on top of your scalp right?? I had to pay the plumber $50 to fix this and now the height is perfectly above a standard shower height and it looks fantastic (admittedly this could have been avoided by me speaking up but thought I’d still mention it as it's a mutual mistake in my mind). Bottom line is, Frank told me he wishes he never took my job. I wish he never took my job as well as he is unprofessional and threatens to take them to court for his contractor’s (Bob) $50 mistakes that he refuses to take ownership of. I cancelled the shower door installation and other small projects after the vanity incident. Gerome’s never agreed to pay for the $50 furniture rail they ruined and never credited me back any money for an incomplete and unprofessional vanity installation. They also won't pay for someone else to clean up this mess. I highly recommend you look somewhere else for your construction needs. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Response from GEROME'S KITCHENS & BATHS
Regarding complaint of Nov. 29, 2011 After having been in business for quite a long time we have encountered many types of people. This one is probably one of the worst with regarding "telling the truth". Allow me to address his complaints individually. 1. Regarding cost of job - we have proof of receipts after additional work approved $4,389.00 - NOT $6000. 2. He neglects to have mentioned that he furnished all materials - some of which (cabinetry items) were incorrect and not complete, therefore requiring trips back & forth. He was told on the first trip regarding vanity installation that he was missing a toeboard and wall filler. He acknowledged that it would be there. He later goes on to say our carpenter lied about this conversation. When my carpenter arrived he saw a rail which he used as a filler (Member wasn't home) and there was no toekick. Member then called our office demanding reimbursement. I indicated the previous conversation with our carpenter and that we cannot keep going back and forth. The carpenter wanted to complete the installaion. He then indicated that our carpenter was lying. 3. Regarding the caulk joint on left side of vanity. My carpenter has been with us for 16 years. He doesn't do that type of work. What really happened was that Member went over his work and that was the picture that was presented. 4. Regarding the shower door installation. Member was quoted on standard 1/4" glass to install. When the door arrived it was 3/8" thick - by 7' high. This was entirely to big and heavy for one man to handle. Thereby we had to send another man and the cost was increased. 5. Regarding the tile installation. My origional quote included standard tile. Yes, I did order the tile for him (at a discounted price which he seems to forget to mention). At that time, I indicated 12"x24" tiles were going to be a much more difficult installaion and take more time and labor. 6. Regarding his $300 shower head: He never preadvised my plumber as to where to install the head. We will install at standard height, unless previously changed. It's easy to come home and say "I don't like that height". He requested to deal direct with the plumber and not go thru Frank! In closing, Member's story is not entirely as he states. There are always two sides of a story. We are members of NARI, NKBA, & PRO. and subscribe to there ethics. We just don't do the type of work that is being claimed here. You can check our history with your members and we don't receive this type of report. We have been written up in many newspapers about our company.

Tony was very professional and obviously has been in the business a long time. He was always punctual and detailed. In the end, his quote was a little bit more than the other quotes I had gotten but I was more concerned that he took a long time to get the quote together. I don't if it was due to trying to find suppliers for some of the surface choices I wanted but it was over a month past when the other 2 contractors got back to me. I felt that if it took so long on the quote side, I questioned if that would translate into a drawn-out project. Overall, very nice people who came across as quite capable and they have some beautiful materials and examples in their showroom.
Description of Work: I contacted Gerome's to quote out the second phase of remodeling our kitchen (new cabinets, backsplash, sink, island, ceiling, and electrical/lighting).

After we saw a Shaker Heights bathroom that Gerome's had remodeled beautifully, we went to them for an estimate for the same kind of work on our Cleveland Hts. home. We were not afforded the same range of choices or collaboration with the contractor that our Shaker friends had enjoyed, and we felt very much like the contractor had something of a double standard regarding work on our smaller, older home. As it turned out, arrangements for our use of another bathroom during remodeling fell through, and we needed to cancel the work with Gerome's. As a final kick in the teeth, even though we had chosen NOTHING for the new bathroom yet, Gerome insisted on charging us a substantial "restocking" fee for materials (tub, sink, fixtures, etc.) we never had ordered - but they had gone ahead and ordered the materials without our knowledge. Our friends in Shaker had met with the Gerome's rep at a plumbing supply store (which we later did with the firm that eventually did the work for us) to choose materials, but we never were offered that option. Our work was done by another contractor in 2011 with a collaborative process and a highly satisfactory outcome. We know that Geromne's can and does provide quality work, but we felt that we were treated as second class customers. The attitude we encountered was pretty much, "You have an old Cleveland Heights bathroom, and here's what we're going to do". End of story. To be completely fair, the Gerome's rep was at a point in his personal life where his daughter (I think) was about to have a child, so he was somewhat preoccupied. Still, we felt little in the way of collaborartion or partnership with Gerome's. It was an unfortunate set of circumstances all around.

Response to report of November 5, 2011 by the member. Regarding above report. "As in all comoplaints there are 2 sides of a story", so allow me to correct some of the statements by the member. He has indicated they never ordered any materials. Fortunately we have a signed agreement indicating that a 60"x32" white right hand Kohler cast iron tub, chrome drain, chrome grab bar were part of the materials and were ordered from supplier. The tile was to have been selected in ur showroom along with some other tiems, style of faucets and tub doors, etc. Please note, the contract was dated June 9, 2010, it was approved July 23, 2010, and allowed to cancel on August 6, 2010, way beyond the 3 day cancellation period. I believe we were quite courteous to the member. Many companies charge 24% to 30% ancellation fee. We do quite alot of work in Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, and University Heights and do not encounter this type of report. We are members of NKBA, NARI, PRO an subscribe to all their ethics. I personally indicated to the member that we would hold up the installation at no additional charge so that they could find other arrangements for use of another bath. They still decided to opt out of agreemnt with our permission. Could possibly the have found a cheaper price after contracting with us?? Please contact us with any questions pertaining to this situation. Sincerely, Frank Mavaldi Gerome's

The work started on August 8th and ended on September the 8th. The workers were excellent. They were very very good. The carpenter, the plumber, the painter and the electrician were very good. The price was expensive but the finished work was very nice. The quality of their work was excellent. Their professionalism, responsiveness and punctuality were good. I would use them again in the future if necessary. I think the salesperson elevated a lot of the prices unnecessarily.

It was the easiest remodel I have ever done. Crew always let me know when they would be working and were always on time. Very respectful of keeping the mess contained, putting cloths down and making sure they cleaned up. Completely cleaned up and removed all of the rubbish. I was notified of any issues when they occurred. Tony visits the site daily during the work and ensures that everything is going smoothly. Final price was exactly what I expected.
Description of Work: Completely gutted and remodeled two bathrooms. Master bath removed garden tub and created custom shower. New tile, plumbing and light fixtures were all completed
