I contact Empire Today regarding their 50/ 50 / 50 promotion that is suppose to be 50 % off flooring, 50% of installation, and 50% off padding and materials. I was very specific that I was interested in hardwood floors and not laminate flooring. I scheduled an appointment for Monday 9/23/13 form 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM and was told they would call 15 -20 minutes before arrival. At 8:45 I called them to find out what was going on, while I was on the phone with them another representative called to state the rep would not be there before 9:30 PM. I told them that was too late and we rescheduled for Tuesday 9/24/13 for between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. I Tuesday I received a call at 7:45 stating the rep would be at my location at 8:30 PM. No one showed up and at 9:00 Pm I got a call stating the rep was leaving their previous appointment and would be at my place after 9:30. I told them it was too late. On Wednesday 9/25/13 I received a call from a very nice lady that was very apologetic about Empire being late. She stated they would offer me a discount for them being late and she would note the account so the rep knew to be here on time. I scheduled appointment for Thursday 9/26/13 between 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. On Thursday the rep showed up around 7:30 PM without any prior call to let me know he was coming. My wife and I clearly stated we were interested in the 50/50/50 program and that we wanted hardwood floors and possibly ceramic tile. He still showed us laminate tile and engineered laminate wood floors. I expressed again that we wanted hardwood on the 50/50/50 program. we went through the process of picking out the hardwood floor we wanted. We elected not to go with them for tile as we did not like any of their tile. He measured the rooms we wanted and then gave us a quote in excess of 18,000.00. When I asked about the 50/50/50 program he stated that did not apply to hardwood. When I asked him about the discount for being rescheduled twice he stated that I did not get a discount as he was first person to be scheduled to come out. If a coming is coming out based on a promotion, they know exactly what you are looking, do not notify you during the scheduling, discussion, or selection of product that it does not qualify for promotion they that is a classic bait and switch. I was even told that none of the hardwood floors are part of the promotion only the engineered laminate flooring. I should have stuck with my gut feeling after the second late appointment and never let this company into my house. That is my recommendation to all my friends and family.

HIGH PRESSURE SALES!!!!! We called them in to compare price and service with others we had gotten. By the end of the sales call we found ourselves having signed the contract. My wife and I looked at each other and wondered what had happened. It's all about sales to Empire. I knew better than to let a slick salesman talk me into something but I let him do it anyway. I am so sorry we did it. The price was good, but the carpet looked cheap compared to others we had seen. Still, the salesman assured us that it was of high quality and would last a long time. We believed him. Now, six years later the carpet looks terrible, and we'll have to install again. Never again.

Bryan, the Sales Rep, came to our house, and discussed with us our options for a carpet that would be easy to clean, as we have 2 cats and a dog, and they like to make messes. He recommended a well made carpet from Soleron, that would stand up to the types of messes, in question. We made a down payment, though their Credit Company had a hard time doing an EFT from Charter One/RBS Citizens Bank. We were able to use our Debit Card for the down payment, and financing was done through Wells Fargo, and we have already setup our online account for making payments. The carpet installers, however, were a few hours late, as they had to drive to where we live, up by the lake, all the way from Twinsburg. Once they arrived, they went right to work, and were very efficient, and were both able to answer any/all questions we had. they were very careful with moving our furniture around, while they worked. Overall, the complete removal and install took about 5 and 1/2 hours, and they were here late into the night. They did a pretty good job of cleaning up, and took all old carpet and padding with them, when they left.

The sales person explained everything to me (he came to my home) and showed me many types of carpet to choose from. Did detailed measuring and made out an estimate which included all costs. Before the installers came I only had to put down $200. which I thought was very fair considering the total cost. The installation team of 3 arrived on time, moved all the furniture (carefully) did a professional job quite quickly, matched up seams very well, and after they were done cleaned up everything, vacuumed and moved furniture back to the proper place. They were polite and friendly. I really have nothing negative to say about them. Carpeting looks very nice!
Description of Work: The 3 man team removed old carpeting and padding and hauled it away. They cleaned the floor of debris and then put down new padding and carpet in 2 bedrooms, hallway, stairs and landing. They moved all furniture and then moved it back when finished and cleaned up small debris.

we had a sale guy come in.HE was very nice ur basic saleman very good at it..He go on to give you this big spill of how the company is why not buy off homedepo or other he call store like that.after 1 hour of listen its like look show me the carpet..a good 2 hours later he finally measure and work up a price.well not bad but the only thing you have to know about carpet a little when buying they have very low gade carpet ,not even fiber is some I forget what he calls it basicallylike recycle plasticnew on the market they say .first I would stay away from the junk,second they throw a high price at you when I told him no it was to much he knock off 800 dollar write off the bat still to much ,he make a call and then knock off another 800.that there tell you something.but only if you buy it now he tells you .let me tell you they out to rip you off.and after he left I look on line and read reveiws and alot of people feel the same stay away from them

The team that installed laminate consisted of a father son and friend. After they left we found prescription medication and many pieces of jewelry missing. In the course of trying to resolve the theft it was revelaed to me that Empire instructed the father not to submit a statement to the authorities , namely Streetsboro Police Department. The father was the one that turned the son in as the thief because he found the items stolen on his son's person. Not only are they unwilling to make whole our loss, they are also obstructing justice for a felony theft. This is extremely disturbing that a national company rated A+ by the better business bureau would behave in this manner. They are not sincere in their customer service policy and are criminals themselves in this situation. This was a horrific experience when one of the contracted installers stole jewelry from our bedroom while installing a wood laminate floor in the closet. The horror has not yet ended. I do not have the majority of my jewelry and the company has been completely unresponsive in resolving this criminal situation. The thief had been identified early on, police reports made, items positively identified as belonging to me found on his person and charges filed. Still no response from the company representatives in Illinois regarding any meaningful resolution. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY. YOU CANNOT TRUST THEIR CONTRACTORS OR THE COMPANY'S INTEGRITY IN RESOLVING A SERIOUS ISSUE.

The categories listed for this review do not fit what my concerns are. First, Empire provided an estimate for installation of hardwood/laminate flooring throughout my entire house in January, 2010. After negotiations with the price, I agreed to hire Empire for the job. The installers were great and they did a great job installing the product. That was in late January, early February 2010. Fast forward to the current timeline. I contacted Empire on October 4, 2012 because I am experiencing some issues, i.e. there are three nicks in the laminate flooring, along with a moulding which has worked itself lose and a few corner pieces missing throughout the installation. My main concern is the nicks in the flooring as they are located in areas that are highly visable. The workers who installed the floor in 2010 came to my home on 10/19/2012 and viewed the problem areas. The workers were very nice and stated the nicks could be repaired, but it would require removing planks and installing new ones. They also stated the lose moulding could be repaired as well as the corner pieces replaced. The workers wrote up a repair ticket and stated I should hear back from Empire the week of 10/22/2012. During the week of 10/22/2012, I received a call from Empire who stated the repairs to the floor would cost approximately $750, and they would fix the moulding and corner pieces as a courtesy. I am not happy about having to pay to have laminate planks replaced when the floor is allegedly warranted for 30 years against wear, etc. I have placed a call to Empire today to see if this issue can be rectified. If we cannot come to an amicable agreement, I guess I'll have no choice but to escalate a complaint with the BBB. Empire has completely repaired the problems listed above. The repairs occurred on 11/9/2012 and were completed by the original installers from 2010. The installers are very professional and are perfectionists. Extremely pleased with the repair and would highly recommend Empire to family and friends. As a result of the original installation and the repairs made, my rating for Empire has changed to an "A" across the board. I have rated the company with an A thus far. I reserve the right to change and/or add an additional comment/rating and recommendation after speaking with Empire to address the concerns raised above.
Description of Work: There are three (3) nicks located in highly visable areas in the laminate flooring. One is located in a hallway, one is located in the master bedroom and the other is located in the family room. Moulding in the bedroom hallway is lose. Corner pieces are missing around cold air returns/vents throughout the house. The above was reviewed by the original installers of the product. Suggestions were made to repair the above, a work order was written up and I was informed I would receive a call within a week. The original installers came to my home on 10/19/2012 to review the above listed problems.

Description of Work: they started upstairs by moving the furniture out of the bedroom to another room, started to take up old carpet and pad and did so in such a way that they had small sections wrapped in bundles that were very neat. They cleaned the floor before installing new padding and carpet, ran the sweeper when done and moved all furniture back to where it was. They did the same with the hallway and stairs. The next did the dining room, then the sun room. There was a large crack in the cement floor in the sunroom, they explained to my husband what they needed to fix it, he got it, they fixed it and things went great! They had a nice neat pile of garbage by their van, took it all when they left and left me all the carpet they didn't use.

USED CAR SALESMAN!! Salesman arrived for estimate and couldn't explain the warranty in any detail and shyed away, asked specific questions as to their PUP (pup urine protection carpet). Said they would cover anything, but again shyed away from question when I asked about pet odor. Asked if anything voided warranty and he only mentioned inproper install, failed to mention it had to be professionally cleaned every year or warranty was voided. Then the pricing game started , quoted $5500 for 852 square feet. Made the call to get a better price to $4700, then another call to $4100+tax and promised this was the best price. Being an idoit I bought it and scheduled an install, but had to reschedule. While rescheduling asked about warranty and answers were very specific and not what the salesman had quoted me, warranty didn't cover pet odor and it had to be profesionally cleaned yearly with receipts. Back to the rescheduling, let the gaames begin! They offered discount after discount to get me to keep the date or have it installed earlier last discount brought the price down to $3775 total including tax! Called a couple of times to just ask questions and the answers and pricing are completely different.

So the day they were supposed to arrive, they did not arrive. Finally later in the afternoon (after taking off work), we called Empire and they tried to get ahold of the installer. He was going to run over on another job and couldn't make it. Would have been nice to know a couple hours ago. So they reschedule us, again. They promise this time they will come out on Saturday. They were there all day. They filled our house with a layer of dust pulling up some tiles by the front door and did not attempt to cover or clean. The y spend all day in our house and at the end of the day, no floor. They say we will call you Sunday morning and come out, okay I say. They were alternately sitting in their van playing Angry Birds on their phones or listening to music or playing games on their phones. I would say HALF the time, they were sitting in their van. Sunday comes and no call till 3pm. Call them back and by time i reach them it's too late for them to come out and finish. So we were re-scheduled again for the next weekend.They finally finish most of it that next weekend, but had to come back for a couple hours another time to finsh up the trim. Now, we can't get anyone to call us back about when this new guy is going to come out and fix our floor. 3 calls to customer service and stll no call from this installer today. The lack of professional, ability to meet the customers expectations and quality of the work performed was sub par. We will never go with Empire or a sub-contractor again. There is no control or accountability for these guys and I will let others know about our experience. UPDATE: 6/1/12 - So the guy finally comes to the house at 7pm that night. Some story about his cell breaking, well then how did he call me at 6pm to tell me he would be there at 7 if it was broken. So he comes and guess what, no repairs. Just looks at everything. Says he will have to get back with me. Seriously. So almost 2 weeks go by and I have had no call from Empire. I call in and speak with someone in the "local" office says I should have called them, not Empire Customer Service. Okay, like I knew that and how does that help me. So then she goes on about the carpet and how a manager has to come look at the issues and it's only mon-fri 8am-4. Well I and my husband are regular working people and we can't take off work and drive an hour home so a manager can come look at it and determine if its warranty or wear. Then she starts questioning me about if I had it professionally cleaned yet etc and says the warranty says we have to have professionally cleaned after certain number of months. It's less than a year old carpet, no we haven;'t had it "professionally" cleaned. Seriously. So finally she agrees, after numerous calls, to have the guy who is going to now come out and do repairs (still another week away) take pictures of the carpet and send back to them so they can make decision on what to do. Although the former guy wrote a whole page description of the problem, i watched him write it. Fine, whatever. So our day finally comes for the repairs to the vinyl and guess what, I get a phone call mid morning and the installer/repair guy is no longer available so they have to be rescheduled. Should I be surprised, no. P*****, yes. So another week goes by and saturday they arrive and guess who it is. The original installers who screwed off so much the first time. But they were able to fix the vinyl in less than 30 minutes this time. But wait, it gets better. I am outside with my son and do not realize that they never took pictures of the carpet or wrote down anything about it. And they leave. I am so sick of this company.
Description of Work: We had a flood in our home and needed to have the carpet and vinyl flooring on the entire first floor replaced. We called and the sales rep came out pretty quickly (a couple days). The experience with her was fine, but I think she seriously mis-lead us about the quality of work their subcontractors did. She assured us they were the best. Professional, courteous, on time etc. What we got was the exact opposite, at least for the vinyl. The carpet guys did any awesome job and were fast and prompt, very happy with them. They were to install vinyl flooring in our entryway, hallway and kitchen area. Upon arrival we were told that the job qould require new subfloor, okay we could maybe see that, but they didn't have any with them. So one guy stayed and the other guy left to back to their office over 45mins - 1hr away and returned 3 hours later with the plywood. Yes, plywood, I was thinking subfloor was something a little sturdier, nope. So after an entire day of work, we still had nothing. Say they will come back Sunday to finish up. Well they don't call till around 3pm and by the time I called them back, they said would not be able to have time. Scheduled for next weekend. All the while we are staying at a hotel because our house was unlivable with a 1 year old and old subfloor sticking out with nails everywhere. So they come again, finally finish the job after another full day but the bathroom is not complete because we have to replace the bathroom cabinet and they can't do the subfloor and vinyl if they don't know how deep. I asked them to just take it to the edge. We later find out, they did not. They now want $120 to come out and fix what they were supposed to have done the first time. Then we started having problems with bubbles and the corners coming unglued. Another installer came back to supposedly fix those spots and here we are 11 months later and not only is the bubble still not fixed but I recently found under my oven that when they pushed the oven back in, they ripped the vinyl all the way from the front foot to the rear foot. Plus the oven never got pushed in all the way either and I have difficulty pulling the drawer next to it out. So we called last week again about the bubble and this tear. They promise us a guy will call us Monday morning between 7-9. 9:30, no call. I call Empire customer service, they try to reach installer and no answer, so left message to call us. 12:30, no call. Call Empire today, they call again, again no answer, leave message. 3:30pm my husband (extremely upset) calls Empire and they try the installer again, STILL NO ANSWER. So as of right now we have gotten no calls from this installer. We are very unhappy with this company and the quality of sub-contractors they are using.

Initially, this was not the experience we were hoping it would be.However, the followup was great (read the update below). The original rep came right on time. But, he brought us very few samples to choose from. He had only 2 choices of berber! They had a sale going; but, the carpets that were part of the sale were extremely limited and of poor quality. We chose what we felt was the best option to match the existing rugs in the room. The rep did not seem to care what we chose. He did not really involve himself in the process. The installation team was fabulous! That was one of the bright spots in our experience with Empire. They were on-time, polite & professional. They went above & beyond. They are a true asset to the company. The carpet looks great, especially the bedroom carpet. I did have one major concern with the living room carpet. The quality was not good. You could see the backing through the carpet. It appeared cheap. This was extremely disappointing as I was most concerned about that. So, I was very concerned about the longevity in wear & tear. UPDATE (5/1/12): After our original posting, a rep (Robin) from Empire Today contacted us about the issues we were having with the carpet. Robin was fabulous! She sincerely apologized for the service and quality issues with the carpet in our living room. She immediately sent someone out to evaluate the carpet & take samples. A few days later, Robin called to tell us that they would replace the carpet! I was in shock.A new rep came with many samples. He was so professional and involved. He made helpful suggestions. Once we made our selection, the carpet was ordered and installed a few days later. The new carpet looks and feels beautiful. I am still blown away by the amazing follow up! That is true customer service! Would I recommend Empire Today? YES, YES, YES!!
Description of Work: Had carpet installed in living room and bedroom. We had gone to several different places to look at carpet, bringing samples to see how they looked in our home. We have several very unique oriental rugs that were making it difficult to find a neutral carpet for our living room. So, these little samples from the carpet stores were not enough to really get a feel for the overall look. We called Empire Today because, frankly we were tired of the back and forth. We felt that having the rep show us a variety of samples in our home would make the process easier.

Were kind of quietly switched to products for which the advertised "sale" didn't apply. When the quotation was done we were shocked at the price. We called Empire Today for quotes on carpeting and vinyl flooring. The vinyl flooring was part of a kitchen remodeling project that was in progress. We specifically asked if the flooring could be laid on a specific date (yesterday) before cabinets were installed. Our sales representative, who was very professional and courteous, called his supervisor and we were assured that the flooring could be laid in the window of time we had available. The appointment was made for installation. We waited from 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. for the installer to show up, and talked to customer service and to the staller directly (who was on another job) during the day. Finally the installer called to say he wouldn't be there at all. They were a complete no-show. When I called customer service, all they would do is try to schedule another installation date. We are coordinating this with several contractors simultaneously, and only went forward with Empire Today on flooring because they promised they could install it in the short window of time we had available. I was also informed that the 3-day period in which I could cancel the order had expired. I now have over $1,500 dollars tied up in flooring that was never installed, and several other angry contractors. I really liked the sales representative and the company seemed reputable, but beware! They overschedule their installers just to get a sale.

I decided to replace the flooring in my house when I remodeled the kitchen. I called Empire for an estimate and they wouldn't give me an estimate unless I was doing the work right away. I finally decided to go with them since I wanted to get the floors done at the same time the kitchen was torn up. They gave me an estimate and upon hindsight, I don't really know how he came up with the figure because he had no square footage, material, labor costs in the estimate, just the total cost. I really think I paid way too much. I can say, that I was extremely happy with the installers. They were courteous, professional, clean and did an excellent job. Overall, the floors look great, are easy to clean and have held up beautifully.

I scheduled a free estimate & consultation online a week before the appointment. I received 3 separate emails from Empire reminding me of the appointment. I also received an automated telephone call to remind me that the person would arrive between 11am and 1pm. On appointment day, I was called at 12Noon. The salesperson was running late. Could he come at 2:00? So sorry. The Empire caller did not sound sorry at all, but scripted. I let her know that I was disappointed as I'd spent my morning waiting for the guy. I said 2:00 was OK.At 2:45, I called Empire's 800 number to ask where the guy was and to cancel the appointment. I reached a national call center (could hear the voices). She did sound sympathetic for a minute, but confused as to why I wanted to cancel the entire thing. I told her I didn't have another morning to gamble with. This was not a company concerned about losing a sale. Fine by me.

From start to finish was a piece of cake.
Description of Work: My house flooded on May 26, 2011. We did not have any flooring in our home for over a month. When we were finally able to get an estimate for flooring Empire was the only company that could get it put in within a few days. The installers were on time and did an excellent job. Stuff was stacked everywhere and they worked around it and never complained once.

Empire was extremely responsive to our call. We had just closed on our house and only had a few days before we moved in. We wanted to re-carpet the entire upstairs and only had a couple of days to get it done. I called Empire in the morning and they came out the same day to give me a quote. There price was competitive and they were the only organization who could do the installation in our short time frame. They actually performed the installation the next day. The only issue I encountered was with the Quality of the work. They left a number of scuff marks on the trim and we can still see the seam in the master bedroom.

Description of Work: called Empire Today and arranged for home estimate. Had used Empire Today in the past(1 year ago) to install new carpet in four areas of our house. Same sales rep as before arrived at scheduled time(Geoff Frontz) and discussed what we wanted to do. Job was for laminate flooring to replace exsisting linoleum flooring in approximately half of downstairs area of home; utility room/laundry room, hallway leading to dining room, first floor half bath, kitchen, dining area off of kitchen, and front door area and hallway. Informed Geoff that I would be getting three quotes before making decision. He understood and asked that I schedule second apptment with him so that he could submit and discuss his quote after I obtained all other quotes. My wife picked out flooring she wanted and 2nd apptment was scheduled for Saturday, July 30th. Geoff returned for 2nd apptment approximately 20 minutes late and presented his quote. We negociated from that number to an agreed upon price of $4400.00. I should mention that Empire Today was not the lowest bid submitted. Home Depot was lowest bid at approximately $3600.00. I went with Empire due to the knowledge of his product provided by the sales rep, Geoff Frontz. He had a complete and thorough understanding of his product and, more importantly, all warranty information of both the product and installation. He was easy to work with, answered all of our questions and immediatly addressed any and all concerns we had based on our previous experience with Empire Today. Home Depot subs out all aspects of the quote process and did not know basic product and warranty information. They did not give me the impression they wanted my business. Lowes also was lower then Empire but again, associate I dealt with, though very helpful, again, did not have any understanding of his product's warranty. To the point where he assured me that it was a transferrable warranty when in fact, it was not. Geoff and I agreed on an installation date and he left. Installers called me the morning of the scheduled installation and advised when they would be arriving as I was previously told they would do. They arrived on time and immediately went to work. The installation took two(2) days and was done to my complete satisfaction. They were professional and accomodating, asked before taking anything they needed. I had paid extra for applicance moving and they did this with care. Also removed and reattached toilet without incident. After they were finished and we were conducting final walk through I discovered two planks that had some type of lined defect on them. Installers went back and replaced both planks without question, which, based on how the interlocking floating floor system works, is not an easy thing to do. I was very impressed. Based on this experience I will definitely use Empire Again for future carpet and flooring needs as I have now had two favorable experiences. I must mention our installers by name as they will be specifically requested in the future should we have flooring needs; Curtis and Jesse. I highly recommend Empire Today for any of your flooring needs in the North Central Ohio area. Geoff Frontz covers most of Ohio and the installers Curtis and Jesse as well, they come out of Wooster Ohio. ENDNOTES: We went with Empire's Estate beveled laminate flooring which is their higher end flooring due to the areas to be covered, kitchen, bathroom, laundry rooms. You will get your best price from Empire if you have other quotes to use as comparison. Also understand that at the free home inspection the reps will pressure you to close that day. Thats the company policy. Don't be afraid to say "not today" They will accomodate you. Overall experience was EXCELLENT!

I called for an appointment on a Wednesday. The next day a personable salesperson (a young lady) came at the appointed time. She showed us samples, took measurements, and gave us an estimate. Without any pressure from the saleperson, we accepted the offer, and she scheduled the installation for the next day. The installation team showed up the next morning, moved the furniture, installed the carpet, and moved the furniture back to their original positions, after vacuuming rhe new carpet. When they left, they hauled away the old carpet. The total time needed for this work was just a little over two hours. We are very pleased with the quality of the carpet, and the installation.

The work turned out very well. The rooms were done the way it should have been done. I had outdoor and indoor carpeting done on the front porch and side steps. The workers did excellent work. They were meticulous in their work.
