In a word, TERRIBLE !!! He was very amenable to nights and weekends and was punctual when he arrived. He recommended a new igniter module. All good so far. He replaced the ignition module, but the back burner still never stopped sparking. He realized the igniter tip was broken and recommended replacing it. In order to repair it he had to remove burner caps (held down by a nut to the burner). In the process of removing one of them the threads stripped off and the burner couldn't be secured. He recommended replacing the burner (no choice really). In order to replace that burner he had to remove the three others. The threads then stripped on them as well which meant replacing the three other burners. He ordered the parts and we waited. I called and he said he was waiting for the parts. We waited more and more. I called several times and left messages, no reply. Finally someone else called and told us he had the parts and would replace them (no word from Ed though). He came out and attempted to repair the cooktop. In putting everything together he realized the nuts that held the burner caps on were ruined and had to be replaced. In addition he noted that the gas supply tubes to the burner were not secured properly and should be replaced with the burner. Those parts unfortunately were no longer available and we'd have to use the old ones. When he put the cooktop together so we could use it while we waited for the nuts, we noticed the flames on the burners were too big on the small burners and too large on the others. 15 minutes of internet research showed that each burner was unique. He purchased all the same ones. When the new technician tried to get the correct burners, he told us they are no longer available. We are now stuck with a marginally functional cooktop and no solution other than a new one. In addition, the second technician told us that they should never have been disassembled without replacing the burners and feed tubes. A few things that should have happened. First, he should have realized that removing the burners could lead to replacement of all of them at which point we would have said no and stopped. Second, he should have simply replaced the igniter with the ignition module and we might have been OK. Third he should have returned our calls. Fourth he should have ordered the right parts.
Description of Work: We recently moved into a new house that had a relatively new (less than 10 years old) Jenn-Air gas cooktop. After we moved in, we noticed that the igniter would occasionally not work and on one of the burners the igniter never stopped sparking after the flame was lit. We delayed getting it repaired as we don't use that burner often and it still worked (but would get annoying listening to the non-stop clicking). We searched on Angies List and selected Ed's Appliance to do the repair based on the recommendations of others. We asked him (Ed) to repair the igniter on the burner and determine why all of the burners occasionally wouldn't spark at all (with gas flowing).

He came in and looked at the refrigerator and said that there was a good chance it could be the computer panel. We had just replaced that in the last couple of years. This was a new refrigerator whose warranty had just run out. He said that he needed to get into the back panel of refrige so I pulled everything out. Immediately he saw the problem. There was an ice dam at the back of the freezer area. "could have been caused by our lack of electricity" for 7 days in the recent past. He got a hair dryer and went to work. That solved the problem. He was there a couple of hours and he charged us about $40. We were happy. We will definitely call him, as needed, in the future.

Everything went great, and we would recommend Ed's Appliance to anyone!
Description of Work: We had an error code and loud thumping in our washer, which was only 5 1/2 years old. Dan (Ed) took it apart and determined that the repairs would be about $600, mostly due to the need to replace the control panel. He said he could fix it, but in his opinion, we may want to look for a new washer because the repair cost was close to the cost for a new washer. We agreed and thought it was honest of him, rather than try to take our money for an expensive repair. He fixed our dryer belt about a year ago for a great price. It is still working great. I would definitely recommend him.

Description of Work: 04/28/2012 - Called Ed's Appliance and explained the problem. Ed determined what might be the problem and gave me an estimate. 04/29/2012 - Ed came at the time he promised and quickly and efficiently fixed the problem within the estimate he had given. I like his service very much because #1. He has the knowledge. #2. He gave a fair estimate. #3. He came when he said he would. #4. He completed the job satisfactorily and a short amount of time.

Overall, it went very well. I was having difficulty scheduling a reasonably convenient time, as most service companies expect you to take off work to meet them. I was able to schedule a Saturday afternoon, which helped immensely. And, he did not try to charge me for unnecessary repairs or parts, as it turned out to be something simple as an adjustment to the door.

Ed was Top-shelf from start to finish.Professional,Prompt,Knowledgeable, and Pearsonable! I would not hesitate to call Ed again if needed and highly recommend him.
Description of Work: I have a French-door refrigerator that was not cooling in either refrigerator or freezer compartments.I called Ed and left him a voicemail stating my problem. He shortly called me back and set up a time between 6pm and 7pm for him to stop by ,indicating he would call before then to confirm time.Ed seemed to have an idea as what the problem was and approximate cost.Ed called at 530 telling me he would be here by 630.Ed pulled in my driveway and was walking into my house at 630! My refrigerator is wedged in a corner of the kitchen and can only be pulled straight out maybe 3ft.No problem-Ed climbed behind and was able to diagnose the problem in short order. He told me I needed a new motherboard along with replacing a relay switch. He stated as long as the compressor would work after installing these, the refrigerator would be running again, but stated that if the compressor was shot it wouldn't be worth repairing and he would remove both the motherboard and switch and just charge me for the service call! He installed parts and thankfully the compressor was fine.He had necessary parts in his vehicle which made this repair call complete in less than 1 hr.WOW!

Over the phone we explained what was going on and he said he thought it was the igniter and gave us an estimate. We called him at 4pm and he came over at 6pm, as he had said he would. He said it was the igniter and explained in detail why it wasn't working right. He had a Universal igniter that usually can be used on any range, but not the cas with our Hotpoint range. We didn't need the range that evening and so he picked up the part the next day and came over at 6pm. He was done in 10 minutes. Price was lower than estimate which was a nice plus. It now is working great !!!
Description of Work: Came out was igniter, tried universal one, that didn't work. Came back with a HotPoint igniter. Cleaned up range area . Explained the problem in detail & tested it. Great overall experience. I would call him again in a heartbeat !!!

I called Ed for an Amana refrigerator / bottom freezer (approx 10 years old) -- freezer wasn't staying frozen. He said he would be at my house at 6 p.m. He was there at 5:59. Within four minutes he told me the issue was a broken safety defrost thermostat. He fixed it, we defrosted the coils (needed for airflow to restart the new thermostat) and he put everything back together. Great experience. Will recommend him to anyone.

We've had this service provider out for several repairs and they are always prompt and professionalThe parts needed are frequently in his truck and if not he can get them very quickly.I'm sure there are cheaper repair techs but non better. You get what you pay for.
Description of Work: Our dishwasher had stopped working- no power, lights, nothing. We called Ed's Appliance repair after we had them out to repair our refrigerator in the past. The problem was diagnosed as a heat sensor switch. The switch was 'in the truck', replaced and the dishwasher was fully functional again.Ed was fast to respond, prompt, professional and pleasant. The complete service call took about twenty minutes.

The freezer section of our 10-year old Amana 'fridge was very loud and all the food inside - while still frozen - was quite frosty, as if someone had left the door ajar for a while. I called Ed, described the problem and we agreed on an appointment time the following day. He arrived on on time, apologized that he couldn't do the repair at the time because the part he thought he needed was back-ordered. I appreciated that he came to confirm his 'diagnosis' in person at the scheduled time instead of waiting until the part arrived. When the part arrived just a couple days later, he returned, made the repair and all is good. I highly recommend Ed! He does just what he says he will do, is prompt, personable and professional. Next time we need an appliance serviced, I will definitely call him first!

We called Ed's after looking at his Angie's list reviews. He was able to diagnose the problem from the model of refrigerator and quote a price at the same time over the phone. He called when he was on his way to the house and when he arrived he had the repair for the refrigerator ready to go and was able to fix it immediately. The washing machine had some balance issues and we needed him to look to see what was causing it to stop in mid cycle. He opened up the washer and checked everything in the unit and diagnosed what was wrong with it and how to fix it. It was a pleasure to deal with him and to have the repairs done the same day and work.

Called Ed and he was able to come out quickly. After maybe 20-30 minutes he was able to tell me precisely what the problem was. He suggested--which I really, really appreciated--that the repair would be so expensive that it made more sense to buy a new one. That, folks, is not something a repair person does unless they truly have your best interests at heart. What I also appreciated is Ed was willing to spend whatever time necessary to answer questions as to which direction we should head for our new fridge. He saved me a lot of legwork. In summary, I would not hesitate a nanosecond in calling him again or to recommend others consider using his very professional services.

Our five year old LG Tromm front loading high capacity washer would freeze up at the spin cycle, showing an OE error message on the LED screen. After much fuss and bother on our part trying to figure out the problem on our own, we contacted Ed's Appliance late on a Friday afternoon. I explained to Ed what was happening, what had been done so far and he scheduled a time slot on a SUNDAY! What a relief to know I would not have to wait till Monday to have someone look at and fix my washer. Ed understood the problem right away over the phone, called for part availability, called me back Friday evening and explained that he would pick up the part on Saturday, and come on Sunday to replace my washer pump. Promptly at the time stated, he called to get directions, arrived, very professionally dressed, extremely curteous to my rambunctious children, and went straight to work. In less than 30 minutes he had removed the old pump, replaced the new one, ran a series of tests and checks, rebalanced my washer and was done. He even took a cursory look at our refridgerator and gave us some hints on fixing it too. I could not be more pleased with the service, cost, and expediency that we received. If I ever have another job that falls under the repair category of Ed's Appliance, they will be my first phone call for sure!! They deserve every A they have received (the non-A I saw was weird, because we have a 5 yr old washer too and he fixed it with no problems!!) He should get A+s in anyone's grade book.

Overall we were upset that a 5 year old washer and dryer were unrepairable. Our son contacted GE and had their service person look at the system and fix the problem. The refrigerator door is fine and we are happy with the work there.
Description of Work: Dan was the service person who came to our home. We needed the refrigerator door rehung which he performed very well. We also had problems with our 5 year old clothes washer. He told us it was too bad to fix so didn't charge us. The only problem is that a GE person came to look at the system after our complaint and fixed the washer so we did not have to pay around $1500 for a new washer/dryer set.

We were ready to start a kitchen remodel and moved our fridge to the basement only to plug it in and it did not get cold! I called and Ed was able to stop by that day. Am very happy with the service. Very efficient. The problem was caused by ice buildup on the back of the freezer. Dan removed the back panel and remoed the ice and explained that the freezer door may have been ajar which may have caused the blockage of the fan to the refigerator side. Has been working great ever since. Thanks!

Came out after 5 PM a few days before Christmas to make sure we'd have it working for the holiday. Was some unusual part that he had to order so he came back in a few days and installed the part. Came out both days after five to make sure we got the work done as soon as possible. Came back again in a few days for another problem that wasn't related to the first one and fixed that for no charge. Very cordial guy seems like he knows what he's doing - we were very satisfied with the services.
Description of Work: Some electrical part quit when the power went out. Dishwasher just kept flashing PF and wouldn't run. When we first called he asked if we had reset it by unplugging it - we had so he had to make a service call.
