The power went out around 8:00 am. We needed to resolve the problem quickly in order to properly care for our patients so I looked up electricians on Angie's List and found Dave. He arrived quickly and resolved the problem quickly. A while after he left, we noticed a faint burning smell and I called him immediately. He was in the middle of a job he couldn't leave, so he walked me through a few things to check and asked me to call him back with my findings so he could determine the severity/urgency of the problem. He said he would come right over as soon as he could if we continued to be concerned, but the smell went away. It was obvious he really cared about the work he did and taking care of us, even though we had never "used" him before and would probably be considered a small account. I would definitely recommend him to others.
Description of Work: Dave checked our breaker boxes; some lights and other electrical in the building went out. He located a breaker box we weren't even aware existed and resolved the problem.

We were having a problem with a new flat screen television we purchased. Every time we attempted to plug it in, the electricity would malfunction. After many attempts, we finally lost power to our upper unit. As a result, I contacted Dave, and we discussed the problem. Pleasantly, he came to my home the same day. Once he arrived, he was very attentive. In fact, he intuitively diagnosed the problem and immediately began to troubleshoot. We went through the whole house, and he checked out every outlet for violations and improper installation. He also checked the wiring from the panel boxes. Next, he informed me of all the wiring issues and promised an estimate later that same evening! Additionally, while he was here, I informed him of some cosmetic issues that I would like to include in the estimate. As promised, he called later that evening to inform me that he had emailed an estimate for our review. The following day, we signed a contract, and he started work the following Monday. It took him and his son, Sam, five days to complete the job. They arrived early and left late daily. This not only demonstrated their punctual professionalism, but how committed they were to maximizing each day. Moreover, they cleaned the area where they were working daily and had all power restored when we came home nightly. Dave is an honest and knowledgeable electrician with an extraordinary work ethic. His son Sam is equally as dedicated. They are a great team! In a capsule: Dave gives a quality job every time. He communicates effectively and always made us feel that he appreciated the business. I will not hesitate to contact him in the future.

I hired Dave's Electric again to update my antiquated basement telephone connections since I rent to graduate students who must have reliable internet access. What I like about Dave's Electric is that they have the knowledge & experiences to do all this high tech stuff and if you cater to the student crowd you need this hardware. Dave's Electric explained the project thoroughly and their work & cleanup was outstanding. The student tenants now have a much more reliable set up for their computer access thanks to Dave. I got much better service from Dave's Electric than I did from my internet provider!

I called Dave in December to let him know that I was looking for him to come out and give a quote in mid-January. I was originally impressed by his website and the fact that he had done similar work (shown by his pictures). He requested that I call him back when it was closer to the actual date just in case things changed. I called him in early January to remind him of the appointment and let him know we were still on. The day he is scheduled to come take a look, I give him another reminder call and he says that he "lost my address." This is forgivable to me. The part that was not forgivable was his attitude and his responsiveness. When he toured the house he was patronizing and borderline insulting. He said that he would get a quote to me within 3 to 4 days. I finally received the quote exactly 30 days later. This is unacceptable. By the time I received the quote I had already found another, more reliable, electrician who had already completed the work.
Description of Work: Quote for new breaker box (to replace existing fuse boxes), grounding outlets on several floors, and adding a Cat5 jack.

Excellent experience. After Dave arrived and realized we had bought the wrong light fixtures, he not only advised us on purchasing the right fixtures, but actually met me at the home improvement store to help me pick out the fixtures and give advice on a new chandelier and ceiling fan. Dave made sure he purchased all the appropriate switches and dimmers. He was easily accessible by phone and email. Dave and Sam completed the work in two days, and boxed all the old fixtures for trash pickup.

The job went extremely well. Dave and his son Sam did the work. I am extremely grateful to them. The job needed to be done while the roofers had that part of the roof exposed. My roofers originally told me the job would take 4 days. I scheduled with Dave with that assumption. However the roofers had their entire crew (instead of the half crew they usually work) and they were going to be done in 2 days. I called Dave and explained the situation. He was very accommodating and came 2 days earlier than we had agreed. They went above and beyond the agreement by not only removing the pipe from the roof but also the one along the side of house. They left the site very clean and they were professional and courteous throughout.
Description of Work: Replaced a circuit. The circuit was running along the outside of the house over a section of the roof. When we had the roof replaced we wanted the pipe removed and the circuit run under the roof where it wouldn't catch the snow. Added a new circuit to the master bathroom.

I called and left a message for Dave; my call was returned promptly. Dave was available to come to our house the same evening that I contacted him, however this did not work for me. We scheduled a time for him to come out a few days later. Dave arrived promptly, performed the requested work, and was generally courteous and professional.

I bought a bank owned house that needs a lot of work. The electricity had been turned off for more than a year so I needed to upgrade the electrical before they would let me turn it on. I got multiple quotes, including from Dave. Dave came within one day of when I called for the quote. He was the third quote I got, and his price was much higher than the other two quotes for the same job. When I mentioned this to him, he said he believed his work was of higher quality. He was brisk in his manner and I didn't get as good of a feeling about him as I did the other two electricians, so I went with someone else. Estimated cost was $1,800.

Generally, I was satisfied with the work that was performed. However, after the new electrical box was installed, I noticed that certain lights in my basement were no longer functioning, although they had been working just fine before any work was done. I contacted Dave's Electric via email. Dave said he would come out when he could. I told him I was not in a hurry because I do not frequently use the basement. He came out and acknowledged there was a problem, but did not fix it. He said he would return, but did not. I contacted him again via email and again he said he would return but did not. It has been several months. I am now using my basement more often and the non-functioning lights are a real nuisance. I have contacted Dave's Electric one last time to see if he really is true to his word. If not, I will call another electrician, get the lights fixed, and pursue Dave's Electric for that cost. I hope this can be resolved without going that route.

Response from Dave's Electric
When we first went to look at the project, we questioned why the basement lights were not working. We were told that it needed a light bulb. The mistake was not asking for a light bulb and assures that the problem was only a burnt out light bulb. We proceeded to look at the requested work and quoted the project. We were hired and completed the job and passed a city inspection. A few days later we were called back that the basement lights were not working. We checked it out and discovered an open neutral condition. The house was originally wired using the knob & tube wiring method. The basement was a finished basement. Looking for a broken neutral in a finished basement is very difficult. As we had to extend the knob & tube wing when installing the new panel, we checked all our splices. We were still at a loss as to where the broken neutral conductor was. We advised the customer that our only option is to bring a new neutral wire from the panel box and back feed the neutral to the two effected light fixtures. We advised that we would have to remove some trim molding and could not assure that patching and painting would not be required. We spent a half a day doing the suggested repairs to the open neutral condition, restoring the power to the lights. All the light fixtures were now working. We were careful in the repairs did not require any patching or painting. The repair cost us over $ 500.00, which we absorbed and did not charge the customer. The lesson learned, if a customer say the light bulb is bunt out, ask for a light bulb and check it out. The lesson learned was expensive. But customer satisfaction is priceless.

He told me he'd be there in the morning and then I didn't hear from him so I called. He said he got tied up with another job and that he'd be there later. He showed up at 6pm. He left caulking material in the window well and I feel he did a sloppy job. He did his work well and even the inspector commented on how well the work was done.

Description of Work: We own a 2-family home. One tenant was concerned about a buzzing in a bedroom outlet, so we tried to find someone who would come quickly. We emailed Dave, he responded within a day by email, and followed with a phone call. We scheduled him to come within the next day or so. He repaired the wiring in the outlet, and advised us about an outside motion light. The cost was reasonable, and he followed up by email with a report of what he did. He was prompt, efficient, and professional - just great. We do have some future work of larger scope, so we will definitely call him again.

I WAS ASKED BY THE PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER ON OR ABOUT APRIL 23, 2007, TO LOOK AT RENTAL PROPERTY SHE OWNED. THE TENANT SHOWED ME THE PROBLEM WITH THE BREAKER TRIPPING MOMENTS AFTER THE DRYER WAS TURNED ON. THE TENANT ASKED ME TO LOOK AT A FEW OTHER ISSUES. I CALLED PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER AND ADVISED HER OF WHAT I FOUND. I ALSO TOLD HER ABOUT THE OTHER ISSUES THAT THE TENANT HAD. I SUGGESTED THAT SHE, PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER, MEET ME AT THE PROPERTY SO THAT I COULD SHOW HER THE PROBLEMS AND GIVE HER OPTIONS AND PRICING FOR MAKING THE NECESSARY CORRECTIONS. SHE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY SHE NEEDED TO LOOK AT WHAT I WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN TO HER. SHE TOLD ME THAT SHE DID NOT THINK WE COULD DO BUSINESS. I TOLD HER FINE. TO PROTECT MYSELF, I SENT PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER A DETAILED REPORT OF MY FINDINGS AND THE CORRECTION OPTIONS. I FELT THAT PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER DID NOT WANT TO MAKE THE CORRECTIONS AS NEEDED. THIS IS EVIDENCED BY WHAT SHE TOLD ME AND THE QUALITY OF WORK THAT WAS DONE IN PREVIOUS YEARS. ACCORDING TO THE COUNTY AUDITORS PAGE, THE PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER HAS OWNED THE HOME FOR MORE THAT 32 YEARS. THIS HAPPENED IN APRIL. NOW FOUR MONTHS LATER THE PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER DECIDES TO WRITE THE COMMENT. I FIRMLY BELIEVE IN ADVISING THE CONSUMER OF WHAT I FIND AND GIVE THE OPTIONS. IT APPEARS THAT THE PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMER DID NOT WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING THAT I SAID.

Dave's Electric fixed the problem that many others had failed at.
Description of Work: The air conditioner tripped the breaker many times when it turned on over the years. We had several individuals out through the years trying to resolve the problem. Additionally I had switches in the hallway that worked very strangely. If they were turned off in a certain order, it was impossible to turn them back on until they were sequenced in a certain order. Again, we had several contractors out trying to resolve this problem over the years (none were successful). Dave's Electric increased the amps and the air conditioning problem is fixed and for the first time in 20 years, one does not have to worry about the order of turning off the switches in the hallway.

Dave and his son Sam worked very hard on our job. They were there right when they said they would be and did a fantastic job. They were both friendly and professional. We even let them have a set of keys so that they could work while we were away. After each days work they cleaned up after themselves and locked up. We are very happy with the results.
