David and his son arrived when others would not schedule service or would not return my phone calls. They provided information about three different projects and performed one of the projects. This was installation of a dimmer switch and a chandelier which was already wired. They recommended the correct wattage for the light and installed the whole thing. They cleaned up afterwards. I will be scheduling the other work with them in the future.
Description of Work: Installation of chandelier and dimmer switch.

He called to ask if his arrival time was ok, which it was, and he came in and took care of the lightbulb in the kitchen, advising us to use a lower watt bulb in the future. Then, when shown the dryer outlet, he was able to see that old wiring had been cut (and he showed me this) and advised that he could rewire it to work. After working for about 15 min, he had to run out to get something, and said he'd be back in a half hour, and he was. From there, it took probably less than a half hour, and the job was complete and the dryer worked.
Description of Work: He came out on a Sunday and rewired the outlet for an electric dryer. Also, he removed a light bulb from a kitchen fixture that was broken and stuck in there.

These guys are terrific! They were prompt, extremely professional and most of all, did a quality job. They did everything to code and pulled permits for the city inspection. Everything went very smoothly and I feel good about having this properly installed. (Please note: I had used another electrician on Angie's list who was highly rated but put in the wrong amp breakers, line caliber, etc. Never would have known if I hadn't used Dave's electric. He told me in the future always ask your electrician to get a permit)

It has gone very well. Dave arrives when he says he will and works diligently until the job is done.
Description of Work: Dave and his son Sam did the electrical work for our kitchen remodeling project. They ran all new wiring, updated our outlets to code, and installed a new panel box. Dave is very particular about his work and I was confident that he was doing everything to code and I did not have to worry about any problems down the road. He found some other items as he was working and discussed them with me before proceeding. I am very happy with his work and would recommend him to others.

Dave came over on a Sunday to look at what I wanted done and give me an estimate on the installation of three outside lights. We agreed on the price and he told me Sam would be over to do the job either on Monday or Tuesday, depending on whether he had the needed parts. I actually called Dave early Monday and asked for a fourth light to be installed and he told me that could be done. Sam, who did the installation, called me shortly after to tell me approximately what time he would be coming over. When the time was near he called to give me an exact time. He also called when he left the previous job to tell me he was on the way. When Sam arrived he immediately went to work installing the lights. He replaced two lights near entry doors at the house and installed two new lights on my detached garage. One light on the garage was hooked up to existing wiring but new wiring had to be run for the second light. Sam cleaned up as he did the installations. He checked the lights to ensure the motion sensors on all four lights worked properly and that they were set at the settings I wanted. Even with the additional installation he was done pretty much on time. When he left he reminded me to call him if there were any problems with the lights.
Description of Work: Dave's Electric replaced two existing outside lights and installed two lights on my detached garage. I bought the lights I wanted and they did a very professional job installing them and cleaning up afterwards. When they were finished the installations were better than what was originally done.

My least favorite experience with a contractor since purchasing my first home five years ago. We received about 4-5 quotes for doing various electrical updates to our home. Dave came to our home one evening to discuss what "he'd do." I appreciated his upfront honesty about the work and giving us pointers that eventually saved money, but during the quoting process he began to criticize us for doing some of the work beforehand on our own (we quickly realized major electrical wasn't our trade). Being and looking very young, we both felt that Dave was condescending towards us in conversation and sort of "took over" when he came into our home. We never felt comfortable around him which is unfortunate when you're about to spend nearly 3k with someone and have them in your home for three days. Even though we felt a major personality difference, Dave seemed to have a very good grasp of his trade so we went with him (and because his price was the second lowest). Dave entrusted the work to his son whom he called "much more detailed then himself." Dave's detailed son punched two holes through our walls that he never fixed, improperly installed a light in the wrong location (which he later fixed). He also never wore foot booties throughout the job - granted we were having other work done, but in our opinion he should have tried to help us minimize the mess, not added to it. His son was also hard to talk to - there were never any moments of light banter, just complete seriousness the entire time. I'm pretty certain our experience would have been an "A" had Dave and his son not been so gruff and practiced better personal customer service skills.

This is the first I hear about dissatisfaction from the customer. The project cost was $2,140.00 not $3,000. We try not to be overbearing as stated. When we see something that is not right, we try to give sound advice when we see something amiss. Many times when the consumer is a diy person, advice is welcome. We always tell the customer that we try to keep damage to a minimal and that patching is by others. I am not aware of any mess left at the home as we vacuum up after our self and haul away our debris.

Dave's Electric is terrific, and I am thankful for Angie's List because that is how I found him. Yesterday Dave's son Sam came and installed my two wall sconces. I met Sam on the first job that they did for me, a month ago. Sam was professional, tidy, skilled and efficient. Sam, and Dave's Electric, are the type of contractor that you don't mind having in your house. I feel confident when I call to have them come out, because I know that the work will be quality. I was very happy with the work done yesterday. Thanks Sam!!!!!

Dave's Electrical has been our electrician since 2006. The first job they did for us was huge for us. They were the lowest bid we received. They've done some other work for us too. Dave installed some exterior, motion sensitive security lights on the back and sides of our house after our car was stolen. Giving us a greater sense of security. When a light failed a year later, he replaced it free of charge. And when that same light failed again recently, he again offered to replace it again, no problem. Dave's Electrical does great work. They stand behind their work. And they are very reasonably priced.
Description of Work: Replacing/updating a bunch of stuff, including seven, outlets, old wiring, fuse boxes of various ages (now it's one brand new breaker box). Wiring our newly finished attic for every modern convenience. Installed dozens of new outlets and fixed some bizarre light switch puzzle in out hallway and stairs so now it all works together as it should, simply and easily, without having to figure out the right combination of switches. Even fixed a bunch of stuff we hadn't thought of, most importantly fixing and cleaning up wiring from a bad dishwasher installation by a chain store. (Thanks again Dave!!!!)

Terrific! Dave arrived when he said he would; his son came with him. His son got to work installing my new lights while Dave worked on my doorbell. He was able to repair my backdoor doobell quickly but found that my front door doorbell was a remote unit, not a hardwired unit, and therefore could not be repaired. He took a look at all six lights on the second floor and we talked about safety, and about re-wiring vs. installing new lights. He recommended new lights and I agree. I am going to figure out what lights to put on the second floor and then call him to come back and install them when I've purchased them. He was very easy to work with, very professional and very focused on doing the right thing in an efficient way. I will ask him to come back and would recommend him to others.

We bought a house from a flipper, and found out too late it was rehabbed horribly. When another electrician alerted us to the huge electrical problems in the house, we collected bids on fixing the problem. David Neuman was one of four electricians we got bids from, and right away we knew he was different because of the detailed written inspection report he provided (noone else provided ANYTHING in writing). His bid was also reasonable, so we contracted with him to rewire our whole house (2 stories plus finished basement). David and his son got to work a week later, and took almost 3 weeks to complete this big job. Throughout they worked hard, put in long hours, and kept us informed. David was especially helpful in finding other dangerous things the flipper had done to us, like improperly hanging the kitchen cabinets. The extensive work required that David punch holes in most of the walls and some ceilings, but David worked with us to find a drywall and paint guy who could fix it up for a price and schedule we wanted. As I watched the job being done, I could clearly see the difference between the terrible work that the flipper had done and the professional, quality work David and his son were doing. After everything was complete, I could still see finishing touches that impressed me. For instance, David clearly labeled the whole electrical box and put his name and number on it. David negotiated with us for a flat fee for the job (paid in installments over 5 milestones), and worked with us to spread the payments over 3 credit cards. When additional complications increased his costs for the project, he did not pass those costs along to us, but stuck to the originally contracted price. Would we use David Neuman's services again? Absolutely.

Dave Newman from Dave?s Electric Company charged us $75 to repair one outlet and when we checked only one light was working the other one never worked. He left and told us that he would come by later and take a look when the weather was better. However, we paid him for two outlet repairs thinking that he would take care of it which he never did. We had to get another electrician to repair the second outlet. So, we weren?t happy with the work Dave Newman did. We paid for a service that we never got. We decided to never use him again.

Response from Dave's Electric
On 2/3/11, I received the following email: “hi dave sam hope this reaches you! have outdoor light fixtures and indoor switches that don't work also some grounding wire in back of home. also, put up good electrical cables and good plugs. probably other stuff too. mention my name on introduction Member Name Member Address Member City. Member Phone Number LET ME KNOW THE OUTCOME. THERE GREAT PEOPLE. ALSO, GOING TO DO SOME REPAIR WORK IN THEIR ADDITION AND I BELIEVE THEY MAY WANT A NEW FAN. THANKS Hardware Store Contact and Phone Number” . On 2/6/11, I contacted the customer and went over to their home to look at the issues. We looked at the panel boxes, the exterior lighting, exterior roof cables, and the switching of the two rear exterior lights. I removed the stack combination two single pole switches and tested it. I informed the customer that the switch needed to be replaced. They authorized me to do the work and I went to purchase the switch. I charged $65.00 for the service call and $10.00 for the switch. The one light did not work, and I advised the customer that it would have to be checked when the weather breaks. The customer paid and I emailed a paid invoice on 2/7/11 as well as information on roof heat cables. I received the below email reply 2/12/11: “David, Thank you for the information. However, because your fees are a bit excessive and you did not provide a receipt for the items you picked up at Home Depot, I expected an itemized invoice showing cost breakdown. I don't make assumptions loosely and you did not discuss your service was based on an emergency call. You made the call to us, my wife nor I called you. So if your service was based on an emergency, it was not authorized by either of us. Also, you left without ensuring that both outdoor lights were working. My wife and I are avid readers and love to do research particularly on individuals that we have to do work in/on our home. So we looked for your BBB Profile and found none, at least you are not a registered member. Also, we checked all of our Angie's List issues since becoming members early last year and found no mention of your services there either. Because my wife and I love to read, things do not get lost from us between two book covers. What Angie's List and the BBB says is always, always make sure the contractor is willing to register with the city you live in and pull the required work permit(s). After discussing our electrical project needs, my wife and I have decided to maintain our standard of requiring the registration and work permit(s) required by The City of _____________. We support our city and will continue to be an advocate for rebuilding the respect The City of ____________ once had, deserves and is on the road to recapturing. Signed: Member” I replied on 2/20/11 as follows: “Good morning _____, I am sorry for the delay in responding. ____ from ______Store asked that I contact you. I have attached a coy of the email, I called on the 6th and you said to come on over. The problem you explained to me was that the bottom switch of a combination stack switch was not working and thatch the two exterior lights were not working. I removed the stack switch and determined that the bottom switch was broken and that the stack switch needed replacement. I advised you that there may still be problem with the exterior lights after the stack switch is replaced. I suggested that we replace the switch and that we determine if the lights are working. If the lights do not work, we would return when the weather breaks. I told you that I could go to Home Depot to and get the parts. I did not discuss payment and before I left, you told me not to worry and that you would pay me. I said that I was not worried. I picked up the part, returned and installed the switch. We determined by looking outside that the light controlled by the upper switch worked and the light controlled by the lower switch did not work, I suggested that we return when the weather breaks to repair or replace the fixture. You asked me what the charge was and I told you $75.00. You did not question the charge at that time. My standard service call charge is $65.00. I do not charge for weekends or emergencies for standard service calls. The out of pocket cost for the stack switch and plate was $6.72 which I marked up by $3.28, thus bring the charge to $75.00. I am sorry that you feel that this is steep. With regards to Angie's List and the BBB, I searched both and attached are copies of what I found. I have a "A+" rating with the BBB. I am not accredited with the BBB because I am not a paid member. I have a "A" with Angie's List and have received over 100 reports. I told you upfront that I was not registered in the City of East Cleveland, but would be willing to get registered. You even heard me call _______ Gutter _______ Company and leave him a message about the possible work at your home and that he would need to be registered in East Cleveland and to pull a permit. The weather has changed, Would you like us to come over to check on the exterior light? Would you like a quote to repair the installation of the box at the top of the steps? I apologize for any miscommunication or misunderstanding.” I did not receive a reply to my email of 2/20/11. I received notification that I have received a new report. I replied to the report based on copies of email communication with the Angie’s List member. I responded via email and responded timely.

I called Dave on a Friday, told him our problem, and he said that depending on his schedule he'd be able to come on Saturday or Sunday. While we were on the phone Dave gave me detailed instructions on visually inspecting the breakers and fuses, but neither appeared to be the problem. He called Sunday and asked if he could come over; he arrived half an hour later, right on time. Before he started, he explained what he thought the problem was (a dead fuse that didn't appear blown). He tested all of the fuse sockets and found the dead fuse quickly. I replaced the fuse and he tested the outlets and switches to make sure they all worked (they did). This is the first house my wife and I have owned, and Dave courteously took the time to give us a crash course on the most common electrical problems and which fixes we can make ourselves (and how to execute them). He gave me the good idea to unplug each fuse and shut off each breaker switch individually so we can make our own (readable) list of which outlets/switches are wired to each breaker and fuse. Finally, he took the time to inspect our breaker box, the visible wiring in the basement, and our outlets. Most of the outlets in our house are the old two-prong, non-grounded type and I asked him how much it would cost to ground them. He recommended against grounding all of the outlets; instead he recommended figuring out which outlets we will want to use for appliances that require grounded outlets, and once we are sure then get an estimate. I was impressed with Dave's knowledge and honesty, and that he took the time to educate us. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that he came out on a Sunday! Great service. We will definitely use Dave again.
Description of Work: Dave found the cause of light switches and electrical outlets that hadn't functioned since we moved into the house. Before he started, he gave me a list (from most to least common) of the causes of switches and outlets not working. Blown or faulty fuses/fuse wiring was the first item on the list and that was the problem. None of the fuses were visibly blown (and the previous home owner's notation in the fuse box was unreadable) so Dave systematically tested all of the fuse sockets. I already had the correct type of replacement fuse so we changed it out. The whole process took about 5 minutes from start to end.

We inquired with Dave about replacing/upgrading 2 exterior light fixtures attached to our patio and deck. He asked if we were interested in installing a fixture which would provide the needed light, and would also have a longer life cycle so we wouldn't have to replace burned out lamps so often. He brought a sample of the product to our home, at night, so we could have an idea of what this would look like while in use. We told him we were interested in purchasing that product. Dave came by within the week - when it was convenient for our schedule - and installed the 2 new fixtures. He checked back with us about a week later to see if we were still satisfied.
