Don Adams to the rescue. I discovered a malfunction in my vintage-1938 fuse box, with one of the 15-amp lighting circuits open unless I used a 20-amp fuse, which posed a safety hazard. This was more than I could tackle. Don identified the problem as requiring replacement of the fuse block, a tricky task without a specialized tool that's no longer in common use. Don carefully worked around that difficulty, removed the old block, and installed a new one. It was a big relief, as this was a repair that could have grown into a major project. As an out-of-state landlord, I've been calling on Don for nine years, but this was the first time I met him in person. He's earned my complete confidence over the course of several calls, always explaining what needed to be done and why. He's been consistently reliable, reasonably priced, and a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Corrected malfunction in vintage 1938 fuse box.

Very happy with results. I'm an out-of-state landlord and this is my fourth time hiring Don Adams for electrical work, second time since being an Angie's member. Tenant reported loss of power to garage late Jan/early Feb. Don responded and identified a loss of continuity in the neutral conductor to the garage. Cable runs underground and beneath a 12x8 deck off the back wall. Don determined a possible work around the deck, but we agreed to wait until he could see the ground, since there was prodigious snow cover at the time. He contacted me when conditions had improved and worked directly with my tenant to revisit and make arrangements for the actual workday, keeping in touch with me along the way. With the snow gone, he figured out a different approach that gave a better result and cost less than his initial "through-the-snow" estimate. He also identified an unrelated electrical problem that I will correct on a future visit or hire him to fix. Tenant was very happy with the work, and specifically expressed comfort with Don working at the house, something that's very important to me as a landlord. Price noted includes $95 for the initial service call and $430 for the job.
Description of Work: Service call to diagnose loss of power to detached garage, follow-up visit to run new cabling to garage and make connections at basement breaker panel and garage. Removed and restored backyard deck planks that prevented access.
