Color Renovation

Just for the record, I have all of my pictures and communication with this company to prove my review is accurate. We used these guys to remove wallpaper , small drywall repair and interior painting. ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!! They told us it would take 1 1/2 weeks. We paid the 500$ ( material deposit ) and 40% up front. We had moved all of our stuff in the house prior to them painting and were living there for a few nights. We stayed with friends while they working on our home. They started on a Monday and called us on the following Wednesday to say they were done. I was out of town for work and my wife went to inspect that evening. There were literally 50+ things that were horrible. We are NOT TALKING ABOUT pettiness here. They actually left pieces of wallpaper on our on our buffet.. that should have been completely covered, but clearly was not! They left fans and extension cords and OPEN cans of paint setting around. We called and they sent the manager back out to " see what we were talking about " . All he kept saying is that his guys spent a lot of time here. He admitted that " there were a few things that needed touched up" . They told us that he and another painter spend 28 hours there... seems like more than a " FEW THINGS NEEDING TOUCHED UP" to me. They called and said they were done. We were out of town and went back a couple days later and still found a ton of stuff NOT CORRECTED. The VP came out and assured me that he and the manager would get it FIXED! 2 days later, still a lot of issues! They used drywall mud in some areas and didn't bother to sand it before painting over it! I spoke to the VP who assured me that it would be fixed and his response was " the manager assured me that it was considerably better " . I did not hire these guys to make it considerably better, I wanted it done right! We then had the " President" out and he said that they would knock off what amounted to less than 10% of the total invoice and have someone out to fix it " right this time". I told him that I did not think for all of the trouble and the fact that we have not been able to move back in for over 5 weeks his " discount" was good enough. He asked me what I thought was fair to pay. I said $2,000. He walked out to make a call and told me that he would people out in the next couple of days to finish the job. 2 new guys and the VP came back. The first new painter asked to come in and look at what issues we had since he was earlier than the others. He shook his head in disbelief at a lot of the work they had done... 3 TIMES!!! After that day, it was acceptable. There were still a couple of tiny issues like paint on window trim, few run marks, but overall, I was FINALLY ok with the work, thanks to the 2 new guys! I then get an invoice from them asking for original payment amount minus the first offered discount ( less than 10% ), with a charge for materials that was almost DOUBLE the discounted amount even though I was told in writing that the quote included the paint! Not to mention the fact that the contract states that any work outside of the original quote would be approved in writing before they do it!!! The last 2 guys that worked on my home did a great job, the manager , VP and owner were not only rude and condescending, but in my opinion, dishonest. I would look for a different crew if I needed anything else painted again!

Be careful when talking to the owner. He is a very nice fellow. While he is talking to you about family he's writing the quote and/or contract. Afterwards he hands it to you without explaining in its entirety. I hired Color Renovations to paint very little trim and the front and rear gable along with a 3' strip around the upper portion of my home. The came and power washed all the paintable surfaces and then returned after it dried to paint. When the foreman called me to tell me it was finished I met him at home and to my surprise they only painted the front gable and very little trim on the front. They didn't paint anything else. I was upset because the smooth talking owner wasn't completely open with me in the beginning. He alluded to me that the entire job would take 2-3 days. After my grieve and not wanting to pay the entire amount he threatened to file a lien on the property. I should of known from the beginning that he did come from that Newburgh Hts. painting company and that I shouldn't have hired him. If you hire this company make sure you have him write every detail of what is to be power washed, scraped, caulked and painted. Have him write it in letter form and not his contract. He will rip you off if not. By the way, it was over $3k for the front gable and it's not a big home.

Thoroughly satisfied and grateful for our exterior painting job well done by Color Renovation! Chaz and Kevin, the painters, were clean, precise and hard working. The owner, Don, went the extra mile in coming out twice to quote our big job, since I changed my mind on some work to be done, plus he installed a medallion on my siding for me for no charge! Kat, the carpenter, replaced some damaged Hardie board siding and trim with ease and pleasantness, and Amy, the customer service rep, was prompt, informative, and helpful with any changes or concerns I had. Even the power washing crew was extremely professional and was willing to wipe down our gutters with a special chemical that I provided for an extra fee. What a great experience I had with Color Renovation! They are a top notch company with integrity and I highly recommend their services!!

The work was completed as requested. We are extremely happy with the results. The workers were very professional and did a great job of protecting our furniture and carpets from paint spray. Highly recommend Color Renovations,

The Color Renovation team is outstanding. We had previously hired someone to paint when we purchased our new home which which ended up being a disaster. Don and the Color Renovation team were thankfully able to swoop in and save the project. They take extra care with the minute details that I wouldn’t (and my previous hire) have even considered. The final product was beyond our expectations. The CR team is definitely a step above your average painter. If you’re looking for superior quality then look no further.

This was the easiest home project we've ever done because of Color Renovations. The scheduling was easy. They showed up when they said they would. They did a great job. Answered my million questions graciously. Helped me with color selecting. Everyone was professional and personable I have recommended them to several friends and would hire again in a heartbeat.

Very favorable experience. The company uses different crews for Exterior & Interior painting. Their schedules differ so Exterior work was done first. Don is the Sales Agent & writes up the estimates. He's a good choice for the job and responds quickly to customer calls. First step for the job was to power wash the exterior. Unfortunately a storm window was knocked loose in the process & shattered. Don was quick to pick up the frame and have a replacement made within a week. Jake & Trent were the painting team for Exterior Painting. Very professional & good quality control. Top notch paint job. Thom did the Interior Painting. It surprised me that there was just one man for our Interior job, but when you see Thom go to work you know why. He is very good, working at a steady pace along with a very steady hand. He cuts trim in beautifully. He is quite the colorful character as well, a man who enjoys his life. Pay attention to the contract, where the Interior Painter will work around any possessions left in the room, but is not responsible for any damage incurred. Be sure to remove breakables. Ask Don if you have any questions. Thom knocked a track lighting pendent with his ladder in a bathroom. It was an inexpensive purchase from the Depot, made it China ... originally $20. Don probably would have replaced it, but I was not going to nickel & dime the company. The fixture was cheaply made and inexpensive for a reason. Unfortunately the same pendent was no longer available, so my solution was to scrap both pendents for a new light fixture. This is part of redecorating and I don't feel a generally careful tradesman should be blamed for working in tight quarters, however if it had been an expensive chandelier in the Great Room I would have expected the Company to repair or replace. If you have something you don't want to (or cannot) move then talk it over with Don & the painter so everyone knows who's responsible should something happen.
