They did everything as per their quote on time and on budget even when we had to change the installation date due to a death. The installers took time to show me why we were having problems with the old windows and explained how they would correct the situation as they installed the new ones. Installers were polite, professional and efficient. The sales rep called on us a couple of weeks after they were installed to make sure we were satisfied with the completed work. We love the new windows. You can stand in front of them in the afternoon sun and you don't feel anything. With the old ones you would really feel the waves of heat coming through them. Because of that and the installation problems that they showed me we are going to move up the replacement of the rest of the windows in the house.

Champion is no longer a premium window provider. Had Champion install windows 3-5 years ago with questionable results (one window was designed and installed backwards and is still that way today), but I needed to match windows so had them bid more windows in 2013. The price has really increased dramatically in just a few years (for the same glass type), but I took the pain so the windows would match. Installation went OK with one person being informed and the other guy being a beginner that had to be watched closely. This was a change over the last installation team - all of whom were informed. Champion is no longer a premium window provider. My significant issue is that the "hardware" on the new windows is rubbish and a significantly lower grade than the windows I purchased a few years ago. The crank handles are metal, but of a less user- friendly design than those of a few years ago. The crank mechanisms are not smooth and silent like the old models. I can hear the rubbing and feel a jerky motion. The crank handles pull off - even after securing the set screw and tightening. The crank handle mechanisms are of a lower quality than a few years ago and operate like cheap windows from a big-box store. Champion is no longer a premium window provider. The lock lever handles were are now plastic! A few years ago they were metal. The lock lever bends and gives when being operated to lock and unlock the windows. It is cheap plastic. This situation is incredible for "hardware" that it supposed to be used for many years. My windows are 10 weeks old and the lock mechanism is stripped - the window will not unlock and cannot be opened. Champion sells plastic window lock "hardware" that fails prematurely. The "hardware" on Champion windows is of poor quality just like the cheap windows at a big-box store. I called today for a service call to repair the plastic locks - Champion sold me and have to wait 18 days for the first available appointment. That is too long a wait for a premium product and is a reflection of the current business status at Champion. They have fallen in product quality and service. The product and the business itself are underperforming to basic customer expectations. Or said another way, Champion Windows performs perfectly A+ to the expectations of dealing with a contractor that does windows on the side. 1) few years back: knowledgeable installation team. Today: half the crew was uninformed on how to install windows 2) few years back: hardware locks and crank mechanisms were smooth and made of metal. Flawless operation for years now. Today: the crank handles are not smooth in operating and have a poor ergonomic design. Handles come off easily. The lock levers are plastic, they bend, and internal mechanism broke in 10 weeks of infrequent use. 3) few years back I had a follow up phone call after the installation to check customer satisfaction. Today: no call 4) few years back, salesman returned to house to review installation. Today: no follow up 5) few years back: no need for service call. Today: 18 day wait for first appointment to repair my new 10 week old window. 6) few years back: got one can window cleaner each month for a year with the new windows. Today: No such offer 7) few years back: Champion sold a product that was better than the competition. Today: The hardware used in Champion windows is low grade, entry level quality. The Westlake office of Champion Windows no longer sells a premium product, so you might as well shop the competition heavily. I think you could buy the same level of window from other dealers. This is a change in that Champion used to be above much of the competition. I will add a positive note that the glass and frames are well done and I like the window coating that is used. It is a mismatch to have good glass and frames combined with cheap hardware. It is a real disappointment that they now have poor quality hardware and service. I am surprised at this leadership failure. Update 8/2/13: Mr. Wimsatt, Manager of Champion, responds that the windows have warranty coverage for the life of the window. True. Unmentioned is the service call fee (trip fee) that begins after a few years, currently $75. They will happily replace the underperforming plastic/nylon locks for free and under warranty after you pay a $75 trip fee and miss some work. I add that Champion did come to my home after the 18 day service delay and replaced the failed nylon lock with another nylon lock. Also, Mr. Wimsatt did call my home and left a VM. I did not return the call - heck the window is in and it is designed with cheap plastic locks. What's the man to do? Service guy told me that it cannot be converted to metal locks. I am stuck due to Champion Window. Please call me anytime you are willing to install quality metal locks Mr. Wimsatt. I have already paid for them! Former design had two metal pocks per casement. Current design has one plastic lock per casement. The weaker lock now must pull both the top and bottom of the window closed to lock. It is too much load and the nylon gears strip. The new Champion window casement lock is weaker PLUS does double the work. I am challenged to understand how I got a better window (as I was assured) - and the price was higher. "A more high performing product" says Mr. Wimsatt in his response. Two metal locks were replaced with one plastic lock, with evidence of premature failure, and I got "A more high performing product". Who believes this statement? Caution be to all of you! Sad for me because I thought I had found a quality firm to replace the windows in my home and was hopeful to have matched windows for the remainder of the work.

[member name removed], I certainly apologize for your recent experience with your windows project. It looks like we have failed to provide a follow-up visit with your install. If you are available this week, I am happy to get that scheduled. In terms of the hardware, Champion is continually working to develop a more high performing product for our customers and as a reminder, your warranty covers every part and component associated with each window, for as long as you own them. Also, I just left you a voicemail with my cell phone number, please call me to discuss. Many thanks, Andy Wimsatt Division Manager Champion of Cleveland

From the sales person that came out to talk to me about their windows to the installation it was excellent. The sales person was able to answer all of my questions and the man who came in to install the windows did a superb job. They were at my home on time and cleaned up as well. I also had them install shutters. Everything was good.

It went very well. Workers were excellent - prompt, courteous, cleaned up at the end of the day, and basically a pleasure to have working at our house. The project was originally scheduled to begin mid-April, but the weather was good enough in March that they were able to start early (March 22). The price did not include the electric.

They sent someone out who gave us a written price on a new door. I thought the price was a little high, but after comparing other prices and quality, and considering installation cost, I decided that it was probably a fair price. Installation was included in the price. The installer did a great job, and cleaned up after the work was completed. The door appears to be well made, and I am satisfied with my purchase and the installation.

Went to the show room to purchase a patio door. Was impressed by the product and also bought a front door that I needed as well. I was very explicit about the concern of my patio door opening as the existing door had fallen and was unsure of what would be found for support. They installers came (2) one experienced and one learning. The more experience worker spent allot of time on his cell phone, not talking business, leaving the less experienced worker to do most of the work. The patio door was taking longer than expected. When they were done with the door it was not right. I could feel air coming from the top and the bottom. They noticed they did not remove some parts to make the door tight. The door did not seem level either. I had them work on the door to fix it but then was frustrated. They started on the front door. Again the more experienced worker was on the phone. They removed the old door. They brought the new door in the house and placed it up against the opening. I was sitting in my dinning room watching and working as I had to take a day off work. The next thing I saw was the new front door fall on to my hardwood floors landing with a bang. Fortunately there as only a slight blemish to the floor and no damage to the door. I was now very nervous to what I was getting. When they went to install the door the door was too large for the opening. The store manager had come and measured this himself, not a good feeling. They had to cut the threshold down and cut in to my hardwood floors. They took down the wood trim and asked if I wanted it back or new. When I asked would the new trim match they told me no as it was an older home. I wanted it to match. Of course now the door was higher than the original and the trim was not fitting right. They caulked the gaps, sloppily it was a mess. When I asked what they were going to do for the opening in the hardwood floor he said he would put clear calk down. This was a 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch gap. NO WAY. By this point I was frustrated and just let them finish. The door was obviously not square in the opening and I said I was not certain that it looked right. At this point I wanted them to leave and it was obvious they were over the amount of time they had thought the job would take. The salesman came out a couple weeks later to see the work and get my impression. I explained the whole experience and he agreed there were issues and would have the service supervisor call me. 2 weeks went by no response. I called and asked to speak to the service supervisors. When I spoke with him he seemed more annoyed that I was calling than concerned his workers did a poor job. He was going to call me back and another two weeks went by. When he came out he admitted that there were issues with the installation of both doors. I expalined that I couldn't have my rug for the front door out as I could not open the door with it. The installer told me I would need to get a shorter rug. The manager said they should have adjusted the door height. I was hopeful. They cam back and a third person came this time. They did fix they front door to being square, however they new they would need to replace the trim and did not go get it until they came to that point and we had to wait for an hour until the worker came back. they put quarter-round molding on the gap, not what I feel was acceptable, but what do I know, I am just a woman. The patio door still had issues and each time I would say something I was dismissed as I did not know what I was talking about. I have done a great deal of home improvements in this house and I do know what I was talking about. I called again and was treated as if I had no right to call and complain. I finally had my father who was an attorney call the corporate office to get some help as I was now so frustrated with the facility that I no longer wanted them to come to my house. Corporate was helpful in getting some help. after weeks of explaining the situation and sending pictures I did get another person to come out and they agreed with me. The assured me they could fix the situation by completely reinstalling the door. Again I was hopeful. But once again the patio door still has issues. What it basically comes down to is their installers can not deal with a not perfect opening. The door is sealed but the frame does not sit square in the opening and it looks stupid. I am living with it. I think the product is a good product but I do not believe this company trains their installers to the level they should be for the price of the product.
