 + -1 more7/23/2024 We wanted to replace our bathroom window called a Mentor Window company. They sent out a salesman to measure and give us a quote. Well, he gave us a price of about $2,800 for one window. WOW what a JOKE that was. Told him NO and that our conversation was over. That was defiantly a rip off. So, moving forward we contacted Affordable Glass Block Bruce Knight the owner. He came out within one hour after I called him. Bruce gave use a price which was an affordable. So, we contracted with him. Set up an install date. Bruce and his helper arrived on time. They completed the entire project in about 2 hours. The install came out excellent. The vent he installed looks great. They did a great job on cleaning up and we paid exactly what he quoted. Thank you, Bruce, for an outstanding job. We would highly recommend Affordable Glass Block to anyone. We give him a 5-STAR rating.

 + -1 moreBruce was on time and completed the work satisfactorily and cleaned up afterwards. No complaints at all about that. However, on his verbal estimate, he gave me a price that was an "out the door" figure, which I wrote down, that I could pay by check, and I agreed to the work. Out the door means total, the blocks, labor, tax, nothing else, all included. Then after I wrote him the check for his quoted amount, he handed it back and said there was added sales tax and tagged an additional $76 on his "out the door" price, unless I wanted to "run" to the bank and get cash. I am 77 and female and not in a position to stand up and argue like a man, so I paid it with another check. He said I should have known there would be added tax. I made my feelings known but feel very unsettled about it. I urge other customers to be aware, perhaps even get the estimate in writing.

He gave me a free estimate over the phone. He also arrived on time, was professional, and cleaned up after himself. I would definitely hire again!

 + -1 moreGreat! They were affordable, professional, courteous, high-quality, and were able to do the work on short notice. I got a quote over the phone, whereas everyone else I talked to needed to come to the site before giving a quote. Because of this I was able to make the decision to hire Affordable Glass Block right away, and schedule the work on my rental property for the week I was in town instead of just scheduling estimates for work to be completed later. The owner was very familiar with homes in my neighborhood and knew exactly what I needed without seeing or measuring (though he did come out to measure before building the windows to install, of course). I appreciated his knowledge and experience, and had no issue with hiring them sight-unseen based on the phone conversation. The finished product is lovely (I'll try to add photos later).

 + -1 moreBruce was very professional, efficient and friendly. He showed up 15 minutes early for the install appointment. He and his assistant got the job done within 3 hours. They cleaned the basement up very well and showed my the new windows/glass blocks and explained a couple of things. It was an excellent job and the price couldn't be beat. I would highly recommend Affordable Glass Block.

 + -1 moreBruce Knight arrived right on time. He examined the glass window and stated that it shattered due to the fact that the driveway cement was directly adjacent to it. There was no expansion joint between the driveway and window. Consequently when the driveway would expand and contract due to the climate, it would place pressure against the window. He then proceeded to use a special type of saw to remove the portion of the driveway which was directly against the window so that a small gap was created. As a result, the driveway could expand without placing pressure against the window. The new window was then installed. The entire process only took an hour and a half. Afterwards, he thoroughly cleaned the areas around the window, both inside and out. Bruce is extremely personable and easy to talk to. He indicated that he has been doing this for 17 years, which was clearly evident from the quality of his work. I couldn't be more happy with the results.

 + 0 moreCalled Bruce because he had done work for me in the past. As always his prices are far better than the big guys and he stands behind his work. Replaced a glass block window that cracked and also had a dryer vent. I texted him a picture of the window and he made one up beforehand. He installed the window with out any issues. Would definitely use him again and highly recommend him. The way to get a hold of him is by calling him and leave a message. He does not use email etc. He is old school but does great work. Call him directly and he will get back to you.

He was very professional, cleaned up after his work, since it had started raining, he blocked the outside part of the job with a large piece of cardboard so the rain drops wouldn't leave little dents in the wet cement around the window. The window looks very nice! Excellent job!

 + 0 moreUpon contacting Mr. Knight, and requesting a quote for 8 basement windows, he asked where did I live? I said Shaker Heights and he , though politely, refused to do business with me due to my location. He stated that he choses NOT to do any work in Shaker Heights./ Wow. Somebody did him wrong....but I don't think a businessman should ever refuse a job because of the suburb, nor should Angies List give any business that discriminates, for ANY reason, an acceptable rating.

 + 0 moreFabulous. While setting up the appointment I was asked to text a picture of the window so I did. By seeing the picture Bruce was able to match the old block exactly. He arrived at the scheduled time and worked quickly and efficiently. The whole job took about an hour. We will definitely use Affordable Glass Block again if the need arises.

Description of Work: I hired Bruce to repair a horizontal crack in a LARGE GLASS BLOCK SHOWER WALL. It had a crack and some blocks were broken after it settled 20 yrs ago. I requested quotes form 4 companies from Angie's List. The quotes ranged from $675.00 to $1,989.00. All the companies said it would take 2 days to do the work and all were worried that the new glass block/grout would not match. All the other companies had "salesman" to come and give an estimate. They did not know what to do and had to get back to me on the quote. I had to chase down 3 quotes two weeks later and really felt the "big" companies did not know what to do and tried to sell me a new wall which would have been $3,000.00 or more. Bruce knew what to do immediately; what might happen when he opened the wall up; and what might go wrong and how he would deal with it. He gave me the quote of $750.00 that day and told me what to expect about the mess which would occur. He explained there might be more blocks to replace also, and the cost. I hired him because he was the most knowledgeable. He did the work himself, he was on time, he took his shoes on and off when going in and out of the house. He was very well organized with hauling his tools into the house. He took 1& 1/2 days to do the work and took breaks for lunch when he needed the mortar to set up. He also used heavy cardboard to cover the marble floor/shower tile while working. He cleaned up with a shop vacuum and removed all debris. The grout lines were clean and neat and lined up with the old grout lines. The glass block matched exactly and so did the grout! I am thrilled with this guy and I did not have to pay a middleman. He saved me over a thousand dollars! Yes, he was correct about the fine dust everywhere afterwards but I expected it. I felt this guy was awesome. Final price was $825.00.

 + -1 moreI hired Bruce, who owns Affordable Glass Block, for the second time because I was so pleased with the work he did the first time. Last year I needed a glass block window replaced with one that had a dryer vent. I contacted other companies from Angies list and almost had a hear attack when they quoted me their prices. I decided to search the internet for someone local and found Affordable Glass Block. Bruce came out last year and replaced the window for less than half of what the other companies wanted. He was very professional and when he left you would have never known he was at my home except for the new window. When I wanted the remaining glass block windows replaced I didn't hesitate hiring him again. His price was yet again less than half of the other companies on Angies list. That is not a knock on the other companies quality of work, just that their prices are very high compared to his. Maybe it is because he is a one man operation and doesn't have the overhead or just does not make as big a profit as the others. He again removed the old glass block windows, installed the new ones that had a larger vent, and cleaned up after himself so well that once again you would never know he was at my home. The work was done quickly and the workmanship was outstanding. Give him an opportunity if you need glass block work done. You will not be disappointed with the price or the outstanding quality.
