Description of Work: Ashby Home Repair answered our call promptly. They came out that afternoon to repair a leaking toilet by replacing the wax seal. He needed a double size and went up to the hardware store to get one. He cleaned up everything.

Very well. I will use him again.
Description of Work: I purchased a sewing table which came with an extra leaf. I needed the leaf attached to the sewig table. Mr. Ashby understood the type of hinge I needed. All in the same day, he went to the store and purchased the hinge and installed it. He also installed a new lock on my front door. He was very professional. When I initially called him, we set a time and he was puntual. If the need arises, I will call Mr. Ashby again.

Excellent! Pat was always where he said he would be and kept exactly to his estimate. His work was better then outstanding and we couldn't be more happy with the results. It did take a week longer then planned but this was due to some health issues and bad snow days and some changes we added midway through the project.
Description of Work: Ashby home repair gutted and rebuilt our master bathroom. We started with one leaky shower, one corner whirlpool tube, ugly tile, poorly placed vent fan, poorly designed electrical and very cramped closet. We ended up with two pocket doors, walk in closet, new tile, new counter top, new fixtures, new toilet, new deep tub, re-arraigned and properly laid out electrical system and repaired several issues in the rough plumbing and framing we discovered once the room was gutted. He also fixed the very squeaky floors in the bath room.

Pat remodeled our master bathroom and was very professional in handling all the changes we needed. He is a perfectionist in his work, and the final results were excellent. If you need remodeling of any kind, give Pat a call.
Description of Work: A list of changes Pat made in the bathroom: • fixed small leak from toilet • fixed electrical wiring that wasn't installed properly, replaced drywall and repainted wall • put down new floor tile which came out really well • put new tiling backsplash around both sinks • put up new door framing and installed french doors between bathroom and bedroom • put up twin mirrors over sinks and did a lot of touch up work to make the remodeled bathroom look just great.

The entire job was done in about two weeks. Pat was punctual and got things done on time and everything looked great. Everything was left clean and in perfect working order.
Description of Work: Our bathroom was very attractive, but the original work, done by the previous owner, had some problems under the surface. Mold was growing under one of the tiles in our shower. We ended up having to take out the entire bottom section of the shower and whatever was getting everywhere under there. Pat did a great job of salvaging tiles for reuse that he could and he found some great tiles that were very close matches to what we had before. By the time he was done, everything looked better than it had in the first place and, more importantly, no more water getting in.

I originally hired another contractor from another online contractor matching website. This was a mistake. After four days of people not showing up to put a full day in and doing substandard work, I had to fire them. I called Pat and he came out that night and luckily he was able to start the next day. He ran into a lot of unforeseen problems with having to redo the previous contractor's shoddy work and even some issues with the home's original construction. He kept me very informed of what and why he was doing certain things. I helped on some of the bigger tasks that required two people and just generally hung out watching him work, which didn't seem to bother him. This being the only full bath I had, he worked as hard as he could to get it in a useable condition so we wouldn't have to go elsewhere for bathing. Some nights he worked as late as 9 p.m. to accomplish that. The original scope of the job was just to set the tub and hang drywall and marble around it and put down the concrete floor board on the floor. I was going to tile and set the toilet and vanity, etc. After seeing his quality of work I just had him finish it for me. He did everything except the final painting and lights, towelbars etc. He quoted a max price on the original job and we hit that amount but with the problems and time he ran into I'm sure I got more than my money's worth. I know of several instances where I saw him redo some of his own work. It was nothing that would have caused any problems and I was happy with it but it was not up to his standard so it was redone. I would have no problem hiring him again in the future.
Description of Work: Repair and replace substandard work on faucet piping, set new tub. Install cultured marble around tub. Install new subfloor and tile. Set toilet and vanity.

We needed 11 old single-pane windows in our sleeping porch (i.e., sunroom) replaced with modern high-efficiency ones. Pat quoted us $100 labor per window (which, he assured us, is the best deal in town) and recommended the Norandex 3000 windows that are eligible for a tax discount. He ordered the windows for us and, when they came in, installed them in a day and a half. The work that he performed was of the highest quality, and everything turned out perfectly. He was also very careful about not tracking in mess from outside, and was always pleasant to interact with. Overall, we had a great experience with Pat and will definitely use him for future home repairs. (He does a wide range of work.)

Overall my wife and I are very pleased with Pats quality of work. His eye for detail and patience towards a perfectionist pays off in the end. Don't put a time restraint on him but know he will let you know up front the amount of time it will take. Pats' first day will show you that he knows what he's doing and is not out to get paid only and not work. Again he will go above and beyond!!!!
Description of Work: Pat did a complete gut/remodel in our bathroom. He was very explicit in describing all issues/problems he saw and then after each day explaining what he had done and what he did to make each problem he encountered correct. Pat is a true professional and definately a perfectionist as he'll tell you up front during the free estimate. He took his time with every step involved towards getting our bathroom looking like he spent double the money. He will stretch your dollar for you and go above and beyond your expectations.

Response from Ashby Home Repair
This posting makes no sense. How could I have been meticulous or a perfectionist if I not done any work. Also,if I remember correctly, I gave the customer options that included structural repair, tile or cultured marble walls, a pour shower tray or a drop in tray, but no specific estimate because the customer was not sure exactly what they wanted to do.If all I had to do was to pour a shower tray with a membrane, it would have been under $1000.00 not $5000.00. The customer tried to do their own work and found out that they bit off more than they could chew. That becomes my responsibility only if I am hired.

Pat came to give us an estimate and was very up front and professional about what we should and should not do. He has an attention to detail that is invaluable to the customer. Pat worked with our budget and did everything he could to make sure our dollar went to its fullest potential. He also fully explained what he was doing on some problem areas that came up so we knew exactly what was going on. This was probably the best experience we could have asked for when getting a new bathroom done, and I highly recommend Ashby Home Repair to anyone looking for professional work without a pushy sales pitch.

Pat responded quickly with an estimate. He started the work within 2 weeks. After we started discussing it, I expanded the job greatly and Pat was flexible in responding to my requests. He took into consideration that I only had 1 bathroom, so set up the job so I would be without services for the minimum of time. He cleaned up every afternoon, and finished the job by removing all waste. He gave options for me to save costs. He was great with my sons and my dogs. Pat has a great attitude and was enjoyable to have in the house. All work completed was of excellent quality.
Description of Work: Pat Ashby renovated the bathroom: resealed the tub, replaced shower doors, raised ceiling above tub, replaced faucets and shower head, replaced toilet, installed floor tiles and some wall tiles, installed new vanity and mirror, installed exhaust fan and light, rewired bathroom, added towel racks, patched and painted. Also, installed new electrical circuits and outlets throughout my house. Replaced side storm door and locks.

Smooth as silk. I couldn't ask for a better experience. Great work! I would recommend him to anyone and will probably use him again in the future.
Description of Work: Pat completely remodeled my bathroom. More than met my expectations. The bath had a bad flooring, rotted window frame in the shower, and the tub was horribly stained. He pulled the frame, pulled the flooring and replaced it all. Tile job is awesome through and through. This job was easily a $10,000 plus job and he made it affordable.

Pat returned my call the same day, and came out to give an estimate. He understood that we have plans to remodel the bathroom, so we did not want to spend a lot on the repair. He was able to squeeze us into his work schedule. On the first day he removed the tiles, cut out the dry wall, replaced the backer board and tile. The second day he scraped out the loose grout and regrouted the shower. He needed to stop in for about 15 minutes on the third day to calk the shower. Each evening he cleaned up the area and made sure to get the trash out of the bathroom. He kept the cost down and made the repair so that (in his words) "it doesn't look like a repair!" The shower looks like new!!
Description of Work: The drywall behind our shower stall became soaked and the tiles collapsed. Pat removed the tiles, and cut out the damaged dry wall. He replaced the dry wall with green board. He cleaned up some of the removed tile and using some unused tile that had been stored by the previous owners, he patched up the area . He scraped the grout in the remainder of the shower to remove any loose or cracked grout. He regrouted the shower stall and calked around where the wall meets the shower pan.

Pat provided a competitive bid for the bathroom work. His estimate was a little higher than another company, but he clearly described what he recommended and why. Once Pat started the work, he found some unexpected damage (not a surprise as this house had been purchased as a flip and it was obvious some corners had been cut). Pat showed us any damage as he found it and we were involved in discussing the remedy. He gave us a fair price on the additional work. Pat fixed the damage as discussed and went the extra mile to correct some other problems at no additional charge. Pat completed the work a little longer than anticipated, but that was largely due to the corrective activities. We were aware of the process all along the way. Pat left everything clean and neat. We now have a bathroom that looks like new. Pat did an excellent job and I believe we got more than our money's worth.
Description of Work: Pat ripped out a cheap bath enclosure and drywall, put up a new ceiling, new shower fixture, installed proper wall board, tiled the bath enclosure, and painted the bathroom.

I became aware of Pat's services because he was doing a job at my neighbor's house. I explained what I wanted and said there was no hurry. The job was done 5 days later. Keep in mind, I had called two other contractors over a two month time period and still had yet to hear back from them. (I left voice mails for each of them twice!) I was very pleased with the overall experience. I would hire Pat again.
Description of Work: We were in need of a replacement gate between the fence and detached garage for our Clintonville property. Pat assessed the situation and within just a few days, had removed the old gate and replaced it with a new custom built gate. Thanks to Pat's extensive knowledge, he was able to design and build a gate that functions perfectly and looks good, too!

I bought a do-it-yourself garden shed kit at a local lumber company. When the truck arrived and dumped a huge pile of lumber in my driveway along with a 3 page "how to" guide I knew I was over my head. I called Pat and in a few days I had a perfectly built shed. I also found out that these kits are not that exact. Pat knew exactly what to do and made the changes in the construction so the final product was square and the doors worked perfectly. He even made suggestions on how to latch the doors for more security. Great job.

Pat installed a shower and drywall in our other bathroom previously and we were pleased with his work so we called him to come and write up an estimate for our master bathroom remodel. We sat down with Pat and discussed what we wanted done to the bathroom. He created an estimate for us and was able to start the job within a couple of days. After we signed the contract we decided to change some aspects of what we wanted done. Pat was very flexible and willing to do whatever we wanted to make us happy. We went to the home improvement store to pick out the materials needed for the project. Throughout the course of the remodel, Pat also helped me with various other projects in my house including putting up molding in other rooms, fixing a water spot on the ceiling, taking materials to the dump for me. After the project was finished he checked in a couple times to make sure everything was working well. We had a look from the shower drain, but he came over immediately and fixed the problem.
Description of Work: We needed an entire master bathroom remodel. Pat Ashby was responsible for the demolition of the old bathroom down to the studs. He then installed a walk in marble shower with dual shower heads and bench seat, a new toilet, an over head exhaust fan, dual vanity with a marble sink top, heated floor, ceramic tile floor, lights, mirrors, and towel bars. We had a closet in the bathroom that was over a stairwell and only one vanity. Pat was able to build out the pre-existing wall and install a dual vanity when other contractors said it was impossible. He also needed to run additional water lines to the second shower head and faucet.

This is the second house that I've had Pat Ashby work on, and once again, the renovation work has been superb. High quality and attention to detail is his strength. Having suffered through poor quality service from previous contractors earlier in my home owner life, finding Pat Ashby is a god-send. His latest work for me, a tub/shower replacement with a new shower, tile and fixtures, is like everything else he's done for me before. Fantastic!

As per usual with these things, the materials were a little slow in arriving. We were hoping Pat could work in the kitchen while we were on vacation, but it didn't turn out that way. The entire job took about 1 1/2 weeks, which wasn't bad though I was definitely itching to get back in the kitchen. It was probably hard on him, too, having me and the kids around all day tromping in and out! Just FYI, I checked N/A on price because I didn't get any good comparable estimates, so it was hard for me to know. I also checked N/A on punctuality, because this is something we never really discussed beforehand. Pat arrived between 9 and 10 a.m. and left around 5 p.m. except for nights he stayed late (we arranged it ahead of time so I knew if we needed to eat out). Pat is very concerned with the quality of his work and making his client happy, which we are.
Description of Work: Our home's previous owners had updated everything in the kitchen (granite countertops, stone backsplash, tile flooring) except for the cabinets, which were in pretty bad shape (basically original with the 50+ year old house). All of the drawers were difficult to open (wood scraping wood), and several doors were being held up with toothpicks in the screw holes. Once a door fell on the oven one day, we knew the cabinets had reached the top of our "to do" list. We also knew we wanted to reface, not replace the cabinets, because (1) we didn't want to disrupt rest of the kitchen, and (2) the cabinet boxes themselves are very strong. We called 4 guys, 2 of whom said they do not reface, only replace, 1 tried to sell us on something different, and Pat Ashby. He came in with a good attitude, saying, "I'm the one people call when contractors say it can't be done." So he was the guy for us. He not only replaced the doors and drawers (with runners!), but put laminate on the boxes for a beautiful, unified finish. He also installed a long shelf, an additional cabinet box above the fridge, sliding drawers in our large cabinet, and a light above the stove.

Pat Ashby renovated our kitchen about four years ago and we were so satisfied with his work, we asked him to renovate our bathroom this year. Pat does great, conscientious work and never takes short cuts, even if it means he loses a little money. He wants things to be perfect and for you to be satisfied, which we have always been. He will also work with what you want, even if it means extra work for him. When we talked at the price of new cabinets for our kitchen, Pat came up the with idea of getting used, but still good, cabinets from another company. Since we are big on reducing, reusing and recycling, we were thrilled with this idea. Pat found just the right cabinets for our kitchen and what he couldn't find, he built himself. Pat is friendly and cheerful and always has a smile on his face. He aims to please and takes great pride in his work. I would recommend Pat's creative handiwork to anyone. He has vast experience and knowledge and I would describe his work as that of a creative artist. We continue to be thrilled with our new kitchen of four years and now we are thrilled with our new bathroom!

THE MEMBERS WERE A NICE FAMILY TO WORK FOR, BUT SOMETIMES DID NOT UNDERSTAND THAT SOME OF THE LATE STARTS WERE BECAUSE OF SHOP WORK OR TRIPS FOR SUPPLIES THAT ALWAYS TAKE LONGER THAN YOU WANT. MURPHY'S LAW. IF JOINT COMPOUND IS NOT DRY, YOU CANNOT SAND IT ETC. EARLY DAYS ARE COMMON DEPENDING ON WHAT PROCESS OF THE JOB YOU ARE ON. AS FAR AS THE KITCHEN JOB GOES, WHEN I TOOK OUT THE CEILING I FOUND SEVERAL ELECTRICAL AND PLUMBING NIGHTMARES THAT NEEDED TO BE ADDRESSED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE MEMBERS. I WOULD RATHER TAKE LONGER TO DO A JOB AND LEAVE THE CUSTOMERS' HOME SAFER AND MORE USER FRIENDLY THAN WHEN I STARTED. THANK YOU

Not only is Pat very experienced and professional, he's personable, creative and flexible. When it came to helping our vision for the room be fulfilled, working to keep us within/under our budget, and honestly advising on what was good or bad from a construction point-of-view, Pat was great in every area. While he was still working on our project I recommended him to a friend from church who is currently working with him. He was especially helpful at educating my wife and I when it came to the whole process of renovation/construction.
Description of Work: Pat finished our half-basement last month. This included everything but painting and tiling the floor, which we decided to do ourselves. From concept, framing, drywall, working with a plumber to move our water heater, and building customized cupboards, Pat delivered a room which was ready for us to "take over" for the final steps.

I would highly recommend Patrick Ashby for his knowledge, professionalism and quality of work. I will definitely use him in the future if I have a job requiring an expert craftsman.
Description of Work: My basement flooded while I was in the midst of refinancing my house. I needed an estimate in a hurry and called Patrick. He was out at my house within a day of my call. During the walk-through, he identified a problem that could have cost me tens of thousands of dollars in the future if I didn't have it corrected right away. His honesty can be measured by the fact that he does not do the work needed to fix the problem. As a result, I had to hire another contractor, but Ashby Home Repair would have been my first choice except for this problem. His advice was so valuable that I paid him a small consulting fee even though he did not ask for it.

THE WORK THE MEMBER WAS REFERING TO WAS TO BEAM UP HER BASEMENT WALLS THAT WERE CAVING IN. ALTHOUGH I DO STRUTURAL WORK,I DO NOT DO WALL BEAMS, SO I STEERED THE MEMBER TO A COMPANY THAT SPECIALIZES IN THAT KIND OF REPAIR. THAT COMPANY UNDERCUT MY PRICE TO REPAIR THE REST OF THE WATER DAMAGE CAUSING ME LOSS OF REVENUE. THE $200.OO, HOWEVER, WAS NEVER PAID TO ME AS STATED. SHE HAD MADE THE COMMENT TO ME ABOUT PAYING A CONSULTING FEE, BUT I HAVE YET TO SEE IT. REGARDLESS, I WALKED AWAY FROM THAT JOB WITH A CLEAN CONSCIENCE KNOWING THAT I SAVED HER FROM A NIGHTMARE THAT WOULD HAVE COST HER THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS AND A LENGTHY LOSS OF USE OF HER HOME IF THE BASEMANT WALLS HAD COLLAPESED. THE BOW IN HER BASEMENT WALL WAS ONE OF THE MOST SEVERE I HAVE SEEN IN SOME TIME. MOST CONTRACTORS WOULD HAVE TAKEN HER MONEY AND COVERED UP THE PROBLEM, BUT I CAN NOT DO THAT. HER INSURANCE COMPANY WAS PINCHING HER ON THE REPAIR COST, SO I ADVISED HER TO REPAIR THE COLLAPSING BLOCK WALLS WITH HER SETTLEMENT. NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE LOST WORK FOR BEING HONEST, BUT AT LEAST I CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT KNOWING THAT I TOOK THE HIGH ROAD. I WILL PROBABLY NEVER GET RICH BUT I CAN ALWAYS SAY THAT I HAVE LOOKED OUT FOR MY CUSTOMERS. THANK YOU KINDLY FOR READING MY COMMENTS. YOURS TRULY, PATRICK ASHBY
