They charge a $30.00 up front diagnostic fee. (non refundable) They said it would be a couple weeks before it would be looked at. They called back with a cost of $300 plus estimate and practically everything from the carburetor to the bar needed replacing. I immediately told them to stop, do not repair, and I would pick it up. Since it ran fine, five years ago when I put it on the shelf, this did not pass my "smell test". They were malcontent with my decision to halt the repair to the extent that they threw the disassembled parts in a Kroger bag and tied it to the handle. I had to wait for the owner to make an executive decision that he would reassemble the saw to its original condition as it was received. He belly ached through the entire 10 minutes it took him to put it together at the front counter. He was telling me that this saw today would sell for over $700 new. This very well may be true at Tri State. I decided to try one more Stihl dealer to see what I would get. I got a personal referral for Bakers Hardware on Hamilton Scipio Rd. They have no charge for a diagnostic so I had nothing to lose. I received a call within 72 hours and my saw was fixed for a grand total of $ 48.18. Runs like a top! No wonder Tri-State asked if I was interested in selling it after I refused their $300+ repair bill. There is an old axiom that has served me well in business: " You can shear a sheep 1000 times but, you can only skin them once" Baker Hardware - Drive a little, save a lot!
