Description of Work: We've had a backyard drainage problem for several years and finally decided to allocate the funds to solve the problem this year. Contacted Brent Tischbein for an estimate. Brent was thorough, very professional and responded timely to my request and mutliple emails regarding the work to be done. When asked for references of similar work, he immediately referred me to a job Tischbein had done in the Kenwood area - I visited the site and the home owner spoke glowingly of the work that Tischbein had done and their attention to detail. I was very impressed. Brent also offered suggestions regarding what type of "fixes" not to use (due to the number of trees in our backyard) tfor our drainage issue. All of the above being said, we decided not to use Tischbein and went with another firm for two reasons: 1) the other firm suggested a different approach to solve the problem which we felt was more compatible with our landscaping; 2) due to the difference in approach, the price for the other firm was less by a fair amount. I have absolutely no hesitatation in recommending Tischbein to others for all the reasons mentioned above and I told Brent that. I also told him that I would write this review. But for our decision to go with a completely different solution to our drainage problem, we would have selected Tischbein!

 + -1 moreI was having plumbing problems so I called Tischbein Co. Inc, they came out and ran a scope through all the lines and found out what the exact problem was. They had all the right equipment with them, they they were very professional. They actually use camera equipment to find the problem. They were very good but rather expensive. I hope not to need them again but if I do I will call them.

 + -1 moreWithin two days of my intial contact, one of the owners came out to look at the situation, and told me what he thought needed to be done. He then told me that within a week, I'd recevive a written estimate, which I did. The estimate turned out to be pretty expensive, so I contacted a few other companies. My daughter's husband's brother-in-law has a company that would be able to do that type of work, so I had them come out to take a look. I decided to go with this company, because I just wanted to keep it in the family, and their price was better. However, Tischbein was a good company to deal with!

Description of Work: They developed a highly effective approach for eliminating a source of pooling water in an area near outside wall. This eliminated a source of potential leakage into basement. This saved me thousands of dollars in potential damage to the basement. Other vendors suggested french drains but I liked their more surgical approach to solving the problem by simply connecting to outside pipes to the sewer.

 + 1 moreIt went really well. There were two different trips and the price was the combination of the work. They were very knowledgeable about their craft. They were reasonably priced compared to their competitors.
Description of Work: We used Tischbein Drainage to clear out a clay pipe from our sewer to the street. They cleared out some tree roots and totally repaired it. The second trip they installed a drain in the bottom of a window well to correct a flooding issue that we were having with the window well into the basement. They also installed a surface level basin drain to correct the flooding issues that we were having on the side of the house.

 + -1 moreThe work was completed just as they had stated in the estimate. They took the time to clean up and make the area look nice. I was pleasantly surprised how narrow a trench was needed. My only complaint would be the time it took to start the job after signing the proposal. I don't think this was from poor scheduling, they were busy with lots of jobs and I called in the spring when it was raining constantly. Well worth the wait, I'm very happy with their work!
Description of Work: Our downspouts were overflowing because the pipe that carries the water to the street was completely clogged with roots. New PVC lines were attached to the downspouts and ran to the street through a trench.

 + -1 moreI have and underground drainage pipe connecting to a downspout had not been draining properly. I suspected clogging with tree roots and debris. Phil and Brent scoped the drain with a camera to a 90 degree bend that the camera could no longer negotiate. They explained that if the camera couldn't get through than most likely any debris would also not be able to drain properly. They also suspected a crack in the pipe based on the image. They recommeded replacing the old clay pipe with new pvc down to the bend, subsequently improving the angle for better drainage. After digging down by hand, it was determined that the pipe was actually broken in 2 places. After removing the pieces, they continued scoping to be sure that remainder of pipe was draining to the sewer. They put in the new pvc and connected it to the downspout. Phil and Brent impressed me with their neatness and attention to detail. They made sure to show me the camera images several times during the process. They placed all dirt on tarps to save my grass. To access the pipe they had to remove several brick pavers. Before they left, they replaced all dirt, pavers, and mulch, and even replanted my flower bulbs! The area looks just as it did, if not better.
Description of Work: Part of underground drainage pipe replaced after scoping with camera and determining it was cracked.

 + -1 moreBecause the work was done in December, the weather was terrible. This did not stop the Tischbeins. They performed underground work and put the sod back so that you hardly know they even dug up the ground. The are both professional and friendly.
Description of Work: My downspouts entered the ground and appeared to be clogged. Phil and Brent T. used a video camera to determine where the blockage was and were able to repair the underground pipe for a reasonable charge. A different contractor verbally estimated it would cost $6000 to do the work. Tischbeins did it for less than $2000.

 + -1 moreTischbein was very responsive to my initial call, and came out to my house promptly to assess my water drainage issues. They camera scoped the two downspout areas around my house, and were also able to perform the drainage work as well. They also provided grass seed and fertilizer where the digging occurred. Can't say enough about their professionalism and follow up. Excellent experience.
Description of Work: The downspout drains were clogged, so we had downspouts relocated underground to redirect rain water drainage.

 + -1 moreThey did an excellent job. When they first came out to look at our water problems, they installed a temporary hose to the one particularly troublesome downspout. My husband and I felt they were professional, knowledgeable, and the work was fairly priced.
Description of Work: Mr. Tischbein and his son regraded around our foundation, lengthened downspouts, connected them, and relocated them to drain out into the yard away from the foundation. They re-installed basement sump pump that had not been installed properly. Now it is draining away from the foundation. They brought in soil, mulch and landscape rock to direct water and put the sod back in place - it is almost impossible to see where they dug up the lawn.

Work was completed in 2 and 1/2 days and yard was left is good condition Work consited of replacing 2 window wells, drain pipe and caulking and waterproofing 2 cracks in foundation. Installation of 2 surface drains. window wells were bolted and siliconed to foundation. Workers were very courtious and very professional.
Description of Work: Replacement of drain pipe from front of house to back of house and to back of yard. Repaired 2 cracks in foundation.

 + -1 moreOur gutter downspouts empty into underground pipes which run to the street. Two of the downspouts overflowed and did not empty underground. I contacted a number of gutter companies, and I learned the overflow was not a gutter issue but a drainage issue. One company highly recommended Phil Tischbein to address the problem. I checked Angie's List then contacted Mr. Tischbein. He came out and looked over the situation, and provided a reasonable estimate. Timing was such that wet weather prevented the work; then winter arrived. Mr. Tischbein stayed in contact and assured us that we weren't forgotten! In the spring, he scheduled a date to do the work and arrived promptly with his crew. I left for an appointment. Mr. Tischbein called when an unexpected problem caused a change in the planned work. He let me know the price impact and made sure I was okay with the change before proceeding. The work was finished in one day, and the work area was cleaned up and then some (see the services about the mulch!). Great work!
Description of Work: Services: dug trenches and placed new pipes to carry gutter run-off to the street from two downspouts. Hand-dug under the sidewalk; cut the curb to allow the pipe to empty (curb had been closed at some time before we had the house). Also used a wheelbarrow to transport excess dirt to the backyard, raked mulch away from the foundation and filled in low areas, then put mulch back in place! Above and beyond!

 + -1 morePerfect! I needed to control some water flow around the house and the Tischbein company was the answer to my prayers. I don't think I've ever seen anyone work so hard and still be so pleasant and communicative. Things you didn't think were possible in terms of drainage-well, these guys can make it happen. They actually hand-dug underneath sidewalks-and in our case, even where they ran into an unexpected "2nd" sidewalk of concrete rubble underneath our front walk-and ran the drainage pipe through. Smart, skilled, hard-working, trustworthy, and great prices-you can't ask for more than that!
Description of Work: From the quote: Hand-dig trench from dry creek bed up along existing stone sidewalk to existing concrete sidewalk at the front of house. Remove sod in grass area. Tunnel under walk at the front of the house to pick-up existing downspout. Tunnel under walk at the left side of house to pick up new downspout(s). Install 4" SDR 3034 solvent weld PVC pipe with proper turns and fittings. Back fill and compact all trenches with dirt. Re-lay sod in grass area. Back fill under walks with sand. Install 11" x 15" concrete catch basin in the garden bed near the front walk to pick up surface water from the walk and yard in order to reduce erosion along the garden bed. Install one new window well and window well cover in the garden bed at the front of the house. Cut off and seal cast iron pipes with sand mix. Hand dig down to the gas line penetration and seal gas line penetration through the foundation wall.

 + -1 moreMuch to my dismay the association members decided not to proceed with this project. However because this company went out of their way to work with me (as the board president) in putting the proposal together I feel they are deserving to be reported to Angie's List. After the original proposal was written-up it was submitted for review to the planning engineer representing the association s board of directors. At that point the planning engineer gave Tischbein a land map and asked to draw the particular details of the project on it. The planning engineer then reviewed this drawing and recommended using 8 inch rather than 6 inch pipes. Tischbein then re-wrote and resubmitted the proposal to the association. I worked mostly with the son, Brent Tischbein. He was always accommodating and respectful.
Description of Work: This work was for my condo association. There is a drainage issue in back of the property due to underground pipes either being clogged or broken as well as insufficient catch basins. The proposal was to fix existing and add several catch basins; also replace the underground piping network with larger pipes as recommended by the association planning engineer.
