The Plaster Surgeon

Very polite and respectful. Was precessional and on time with everything. Finished two upstairs bedrooms in 2 and a half days. Went above and beyond and knocked out a few other things for me so that it was move in ready.

I have an old house. READ: plaster everywhere. So after the plumbers broke through the walls in search of the bathroom leak, I called Curtis for an estimate on repairing the many holes. He got back to me right away, and if you're a homeowner you know how rare that is. He was sweet and straight forward. He was at the house and gave me an estimate right away, and best of all he got the work done quickly. Oh, and he also hung up a big frame for me because, yes, hanging stuff on plaster walls freak me out. I can't recommend him enough and trust me I do not have many people that I recommend for work on a house.

Curtis did an absolutely fabulous job at evaluating and assessing the job, figuring out the exact and most efficient way to complete the task while integrating the fixed portion, maintaining the integrity of the wall, and blending the two with patterned walls and ceilings so that no line or seam was noticeable. We utilized his services without hesitancy on 3 separate occasions and will do so in the future if the need should arise. Curtis exhibits the highest degree of professionalism as a contractor and just as a caring individual. He takes a unique pride in his work while always keeping the goals of the customer in mind. We would (and have) recommended him to others.

Over a several month period I had contacted 9 drywall contractors about installing and finishing dry wall in my basement. Of those only Plaster Surgeons called and gave me an estimate. It was a pleasure working with Curtis Shepard who was very open and answered all my questions and concerns upfront. He made every effort to make sure that I was satisfied with the project. I knew this was a complicated project with many soffits, ceiling lights and wall outlets and was not a typical drywall project. The workers were very friendly and proficient in their work. The person finishing the dry wall did what I would call a craftsman like job. The workers were very open to my questions and concerns and made all the changes that I requested. They also finished some drywall that I had previously installed that was not in the original contract. On their own they also finished some patches I had started in the ceiling. The project took an entire week from delivery of the drywall to the final cleanup.

Curtis correctly identified what the previous repair on historical plaster was and how it was deteriorating. Did a decent job on applying the same fiber mat and mud as the previous repair. Not real plaster work, but what I needed for this fix since the area in question wasn't plaster work either. Would probably not use for real historical plaster work, but great for these kinds of fixes. Finished surfaces could have been a bit straighter (there were some dips near where the repair joined the neighboring surfaces), but it was ready to paint when he was done.

He was late but he called ahead of time and was extremely professional. The quality of his work was amazing and I'd absolutely call him again.

I called to get an estimate for some major stucco repair to an exterior wall where the stucco is coming off. When I called the 1st time he wasn't available. I left my contact information. I called again where he answered but said he was in the car and couldn't take and to call him back. When I called him back the next day as requested he said he was buying a car and couldn't talk. Every time, I gave him my contact information. A month later, he never got back to me.

Curtis was able to work me into his schedule very quickly. He did excellent work at a great price.

Service was great. Curtis responded promptly to my calls when others would not. Quoted me for the job promptly when others that I called that did stop by did not even call me back. It went very well. Curtis was punctual very receptive to what I requested, stated it would take two days which it did, quoted me a price, did not vary or change, actually did more work and did not charge me for it on two cracks in hallway, asked permission to fix. Would use again, told him so.

Excellent! Mr. Shepard clearly knew about plaster. Our condo has some molding and ceilings from the 1920's and he immediately identified the techniques used then and how to fix the water damage. Plaster work can be messy, but Mr. Shepard kept the work area covered and cleaned up after the job was done. He even came back the next day to make sure the work was smooth after it had dried. Great job, courteous service, good price!

Great! He arrived on time, cleaned up, left no mess or plaster dust at all, and charged less than the estimate because it took less time than he had expected. It was a pleasure to have him work for us, and we will surely use him the next time. After completion, the only way we can tell there had been damage was that the unpainted plaster is a different color from the wall.

I've dealt with a ton of contractors and this transaction was absolutely perfect. Curtis responded quickly to give us a quote. He uncovered a bad joist and advised us on repair. He completed the work promptly. He communicated via text, email, and phone, which was a huge help in keeping this project moving and keeping all players informed. He even let us borrow his dropcloth when ours went missing. Bottom line: this guy could write the book on being a great contractor! THANK YOU CURTIS!

I cannot recommend Curtis Shepherd highly enough. He was prompt in returning my initial call, came out to do an estimate within a few days, and was able to do my dining room ceiling the next weekend. He did an amazing job on my dining room ceiling and was prompt, friendly, and professional. There was old plaster from a textured ceiling (1970s/80s?) that was flaking off--look at it and another flake would fall--but fortunately no water damage. Apparently it had never been painted and it's time had come. He scraped all of it off, repaired some hairline cracks, primed, and plastered the ceiling. He lowered the ceiling fixture and fixed the ceiling under the lighting canopy and carefully plastered up to--and not over--the crown molding. We opted to go with the original smooth finish rather than the swirl texture--it looks gorgeous! It (probably) looks like it did when the house was built--1927. When painted it matches the ceilings in the other rooms beautifully. He sealed some old water damage in the hallway at the same time. I will definitely call him when I fix the damaged plaster in my dad's "younger" 1936 house.

It went very well - better than we could have expected. Curtis promptly answered my call for a bid. We scheduled the appointment quickly and came to an agreement on price within a couple business days. He kept in touch with me prior to our scheduled date and during the work, he'd text me the arrival and departure times. He brought a colleague which made the work go faster than expected - a nice bonus on our end. I was completely comfortable with either of them in my home. They smoothed out so many cracks and uneven parts of my ceiling! Even did a couple extra touch-ups on walls we hadn't discussed. It looks great. It's now been a week and I'm letting the plaster dry before we prime and paint. We'll definitely use again and would be glad to give a recommendation if any potential customers want to talk.

Curtis was very timely in his response to our request for repair. He assessed the area and sent a quote the same day. He made the repair over 1.5 days. He followed up to ask how the repair looked. I shared concern about how part of the patch looked at night with side light causing shadow. Curtis returned to our kitchen to make alterations to ensure our full satisfaction. He probably put more work in than he anticipated, but was willing and able to make adjustments to make our old, uneven plaster ceiling look nearly flawless. I am very happy with the results.

Curtis Shepard provided great professional service at a very reasonable price for the work described above. We were very happy with the repairs completed and Mr. Shepard is also a very nice, friendly person to work with.

The work far exceeded my expectations! I opted to do the sanding myself, and found in most places sanding was not even necessary!

I will always go back to Curtis for any plaster work I need performed. He is polite, responsive and completed the work in a very timely manner. All of his work looks great and he even identified a few areas of the wall that needed repair that I was unaware of and repaired them without changing his cost. Overall, my experience with Curtis has probably been the best experience I have ever had with a contractor.

Curtis recommended a subcontractor to do the hanging - who was prompt, well-priced, and did a good job. He then came on the day he was scheduled and worked for then next few days taping, mudding and finishing. It is a tricky room - with lots of angles and tight corners. He did what he said he was going to do, charged what he had quoted, and in general did some really nice and thoughtful work! We recently painted the space and it looks great.
