I had an excellent experience with Taylor Made. I actually had an issue that was discovered right after I moved in, and I called them and they took care of the issue until it was 100% fixed. Jack (my inspector) and Mike (owner) were wonderful and went above and beyond to make sure the issue was taken care of to my satisfaction. I will be a customer of Taylor Made again and just referred them to a friend.

Mixed bag. Some things were caught during the inspection we wouldn't have thought of such as HVAC venting not up to code, some patchwork needed for siding, etc. But too many "need for further inspections" listed - and this was a big miss and CYA move in my opinion. Our fireplaces were listed as recommended to follow up with others, for example. Nothing obvious pointed out but we did later. The cost to repair our fireplaces by the fireplace service was a major shock. Also some plumbing issues not caught along with the presence of a grinder pump, not disclosed by previous owner. Mike is very nice and thorough on some things but others were a miss. But the service is covered by the check-all "recommended follow up to other companies" and it isn't regulated in Ohio (should be).

The inspector inspected the exterior and interior of the house. He failed to notice evidence of water damage in the basement. A month after we moved in, we had puddles of water in the basement after a rainstorm. The contractor who waterproofed the basement said there were years of water damage.

This was our first time needing a whole-house inspection. We were referred to Taylor Made Inspections, and we were very impressed. Our inspector (Chris) arrived right on time at the home. The weather was horrible (raining), but he spent a good hour inspecting the outside of the home, even went onto the roof. Another 1-1/2 hours was spent inspecting the inside of the home, even the crawlspace and attic. He took photos and explained things along the way. After the inspection, he explained his findings and gave recommendations. That same evening, we received the house inspection and termite inspection via e-mail. This was a very positive experience and I would highly recommend them.

We have had nothing but issues with the home we purchased based on the inspection by Taylor Made. You trust a home inspector to help you make the right decisions and we are left with nothing but regrets. Since we closed on our home we have had the following issues that have cost us thousands of extra, and unanticipated, dollars in repair/replacement fees: - 2 gas leaks from coming from both water heaters - 2 water leaks from faulty shut off valves - water heater needed replacing - mold and water in basement - corrosive copper plumbing - dish washer pump failure (bad pump) - ice maker broken in fridge/freezer These are issues a home inspector should have caught. All the service calls and contractors we've called in have validated this.

We definitely must have had amnesia about our past experience because our experience on 6/29/11 was the worst customer service we've had in a very long time. My first call to his business, the woman that answered the phone asked me if she could call me back the next day because she wasn't in a position to set an appointment. The next day, since I had not received a call back by mid-day, I called back. The lady that answered the phone set the appointment and apologized for not returning my call from the previous day because she forgot. On the day of the inspection, Mike arrived at our new home 10 minutes late without any prior notification and in the midst of my contacting his office to locate him. When he arrived, he appeared to have an attitude since he sullenly introduced himself and never apologized for being late. I also realized we would have trouble when he arrived without a ladder to inspect the roof of the house. He performed his inspection and occasionally spoke to the builder's representative as he inspected. After the inspection was complete, he printed his report, asked for his payment and then left.A couple days later, he emailed his inspection report to us. After reviewing the report, I called him about a mold issue he identified in the basement. He provided a one sentence answer to one of my questions and abruptly told me that he was conducting an inspection and that he needed to go and then "flat out" hung up on me. The next day, he didn't bother to call me back so I emailed him and asked him to further elaborate on the mold issue in the basement. He replied by providing me with a one sentence answer directing me to the Federal EPA website without any further explanation. Next, I checked my credit card statement and noticed that Mike charged me for a radon test that wasn?t performed during the inspection. When I emailed him about the error, he apologized and indicated that he would have his assistant remove the charge. Finally straw was when my builder?s superintendent contacted Mike to obtain clarification regarding a truss that he indicated was damaged in the attic. Mike was rude, uncooperative and refused to provide the superintendent or the builder?s truss subcontractor with enough information to locate the ?alleged? damaged truss he indentified. Mike also refused to forward the photograph that he took of the truss or meet the contractor at the home to point out specific truss. Potential customers, please beware. After reviewing my review, Mike (the owner of this company) contacted me, sincerely apologized and sent me a full refund for his services. I was surprised, but was very happy in the way he resolved my complaint.
Description of Work: My husband and I contacted Mike Condon (owner, Taylor Made Inspections) because we had used him in 2001 to complete a whole house inspection for an existing home we were purchasing. Taylor Made was hired this time to perform a new home inspection.

I am a first-time home owner so it seemed to go okay although I thought it was a bit odd at the amount of things my husband and I were adding to the report, particularly my concerns with the deck. The housing inspection came back as relatively decent so we ended up buying the house and having a baby shortly afterward. Throughout the first year of living in the house we uncovered numerous issues that should've been on the inspection report as it would've significantly impacted the final purchase price. For example, we had our electrician out to check on some wiring and add in some lighting to the garage. The electrician immediately noticed a serious code violation called "double tapping" and inquired why our housing inspector had not caught it. The electrician also did a simple tapping on the switch of a flickering dimmer light and was immediately able to tell us it was due to exposed wiring (which was the case). It turned out the electrical was not up to code in the box alone and we chose the cheaper alternative to bring us up to code which resulted in a $900+ bill -- this included a second box, the cheaper garage install. Then we had the fireplace cleaned only to find out that it had never been cleaned so it could've been a potential fire hazard. When the fireplace person also checked our external chimney and roof area, he was able to pinpoint where and why ceiling leaks had occurred -- it was because the roof flashing was not done correctly so particular winter weather conditions would cause leaking. Tom never noted this on our report; when we asked him about it during the visit he said he had no idea. We've had several individuals, including an engineer, comment that I was correct on our deck not only being unsafe for adults, but not up to code and a potential hazard for our child. When we had Duke Energy out to do the courtesy inspection on why our electrical bill was so high ($300+ for less than 1,500 sq ft and temp at 62F), the rep let us know that our attic spaces could use additional insulation to help with heating. We had to have an exterminator out to deal with a carpenter ant problem. And, we're finding that a lot of the construction was not done entirely properly -- the garage not being finished was obvious, but a construction friend recently showed us other signs that indicate shoddy work. We easily could've saved thousands on the purchase price of the house if Tom Biltz had been a competent inspector, or at least recouped some of the repair money if Taylor Made certified their inspections.
Description of Work: Based on a recommendation from a colleague, we contacted Tom Biltz from Taylor Made to do our home inspection. He was very prompt and friendly. Throughout the inspection he asked multiple times if we found things that we wanted him to add to the report. It was only after we had Tom out that the colleague, who'd used him for several potential houses, relayed that on one house Tom had told her he 'was glad you didn't buy the previous house as it was a wreck.'

All our Inspectors are certified. We stand behind our inspections 100%. If we miss something that should have been seen we will pay for it. All you have to do is call me to come out and look at it before it is fixed. I was not happy with Tom's communication skills either. He is no longer with the CO.

When they inspected the first house they found several things that were seriously wrong with the house that we would never have found on our own (ie. that the second floor bathroom leaked all the way through the kitchen to the basement... The previous owners had painted over the stains). We had Steve Barone do both of our inspections and he did and extremely thorough job both times (the inspections lasted around 3 hours each). He answered all of our questions to our satisfaction and suggested the correct ways to fix anything (large or small) that he found wrong with the houses. He was personable but also professional and I would recommend the company to anyone considering purchasing a house.

I would not do business with this company again. The inspector was very polite and seemed to do a good job, however the circumstances around the inspection are not satisfactory. The inspector arrived 1 hour before the scheduled time when the Seller was still in the house and began inspection on the roof despite assurances that I would be there at our agreed upon time of 4 PM. No phone notification was made to me even though he had my cell phone number. The Sellers Agent unexpectedly arrived later and as it turns out knew the home inspector on a personal basis (knew family names, etc) - this should be disclosed considering the Sellers Agents name was listed on his scheduling sheet. I followed up with a phone call to the owner and expressed my displeasure with the situation. I recieved a faxed and signed copy of the ASHI Code of Ethics. BEWARE: Demand an on-time inspection and to disclose if they know the Sellers Agent personally if you choose to hire this company!

I WAS OKAY WITH INSPECTION, BUT DISAPPOINTED THAT HE DID NOT TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE MATERIAL DEFECTS, AND HE ACCIDENTALLY LEFT COMMENTS ON OUR REPORT THAT MUST HAVE BELONGED TO ANOTHER HOUSE, BECAUSE THIS HOUSE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ONE OF THE ITEMS HE LISTED AS DEFECTIVE. MY CLIENT POINTED OUT SOME ''MOLD'' THAT HE MISSED IN THE BATHROOM, AND HE WROTE ON THE REPORT THAT IT WAS ''MOLD''. THIS CAUSED A SERIOUS NEGOTIATION PROBLEM, AS IT WAS CLEARLY NOT MOLD!

BOB WAS VERY PERSONAL AND DIRECT IN HIS APPROACH. GREAT SERVICE AND EXPERIENCE. EVERYONE NEEDS A BOB FOR THEIR INSPECTOR. THE INSPECTORS USE A PALM PILOT TO ENTER/COMPLETE REPORT. THE INSPECTOR BRINGS A PRINTER AND PROVIDES A ELECTRONIC PRINT-OUT OF THE REPORT ON THE SPOT. (VERY BENEFICIAL TO HAVE THREE SETS OF EYES REVIEW FINAL REPORT - INSPECTOR, REALTOR, AND YOURSELF) I WAS ABLE TO CONFIRM FINDINGS ON THE SPOT WHILE EVERYTHING WAS FRESH IN MY MIND. THE SERVICE AND TECHNOLOGY IS DEFINITELY WORTH THE PRICE.
