 + 0 moreOverall, the job went well. I talked with someone on the phone who gave me a rough estimate for running two gas lines. We set up a time for someone else to come and look at the work and give us a more precise estimate. It's a good thing we did, because the second estimate was quite a bit higher than the first (admittedly without seeing the job) estimate. Everything was neat and clean at the end of the job.
Description of Work: Ran a gas line from the basement up through the ash clean out to the first floor fireplace. Added a shut-off valve in the basement. Installed a valve in the fireplace area and installed and set up the gas logs.

 + -1 moreWas very satisfied with the work done. The scheduler filled us in easily on a busy holiday week and the plumber was on time and quick at his work. Most importantly he was honest about the job.
Description of Work: Had a leak in our main supply water line coming into the house. Our house is older (1927) and the leaking supply pipe is due for complete replacement. Our first plumber wouldn't even touch it. Tarvin's came in and gave an honest assessment saying that while the pipe was old, he would try to fix it. Well he did, in under 20 minutes. Allowing us to more adequately plan for replacing the supply line into our house.

 + -1 moreI called Tarvin to explain the situation and told them we would be having company soon (it was a week before Thanksgiving). He was very nice and told me that they don't normally do that work, but because of the holiday things, were slow for his tile man so he would send him over. John came over on Friday and gave us a bid and told us he could come over on Monday and get it done. He was there promptly at 8:30 a.m. and finished by 12:30. He did excellent work.
Description of Work: We had our old shower removed and a new molded shower unit installed by another plumber. That plumber did not do tile work, so we were left with a four inch gap above the shower unit and the bottom of the tile that was left in place. We needed backer board installed and a row of tile above the shower and down the wall.

 + -1 moreFantastic! Never had a situation where a service person was available to fix any and every problem in the house. Jim was on time, took little time for a packed lunch in his truck and stayed a full day. He not only did not mind the ''little'' things I did not mention to the company ahead of time, but welcomed being able to fix them while he was there. I appreciated his knowledge and ability to foresee problems down the line if not fixed. I've had several plumbers to the house working on the garbage disposal and 2 running toilets. Finally everything seems to be working well. The toilet floater device was fixed with individual high quality parts, not a kit from a plastic bag purchased at a local hardware store. I expect my water bills to finally reflect the working toilets.
Description of Work: I called Tarvin to repair a toilet leak. Several other plumbers would not work on my original 1936 plumbing, but Tarvin was willing to do the job understanding my desire to maintain the original look of our Tudor home. Once on the job, Jim, explained several things about our wall hung toilet that helped us decide to go with installing a new fixture. He gave details about coloring caulk to fill the hole from the tank once removed and how to handle the floor tile once the new toilet was installed. Since we were not able to continue with that project, Jim went about reaming out the pipe from the garbage disposal into the ground (another plumber wanted to install 2 traps which was not necessary) and installing an outside faucet. Once in the basement, Jim, noticed my toilet vent had holes and replaced it and the clean out. He saw an unnecessary strange pipe coming out of the floor behind the washer and removed it closing the hole with cement. He fixed several things not on the list.

 + -1 moreWe worked with Dick Tarvin. He is very good to work with. He did a good job scheduling and communicating the schedule to us. He always returned our calls and met with us if we had any questions or concerns. Our bathroom turned out very nice. We are very happy with it. Matt did a nice job on the plumbing and fixture installation. We had some concerns and issues with some of the contractors and suppliers Tarvin used. We would never recommend the tile supplier they sent us to. The tile had defects in it that made the tile look like it has mildew on it. The tile rep and owner were not very receptive and were rude to us. Dick gave us a discount on the installation to help us pay to fix the problem. The shower door installer Tarvin hired, installed a system with a factory defect. It took 3 service calls and a lot of caulk before the company figured out the system was defective and need to be taken out and remade. In the end, this company stands by their work.
Description of Work: Total remodel of a 2nd floor bathroom. Demolition of floors, walls, and ceiling. Replastered walls and ceiling. Installed new tile shower, floor, and fixtures. Installed new electrical and can lights. Installed new soil and waste lines to the 2nd floor. Obtained all building permits.

 + -1 moreTarvin was prompt in their response which was greatly appreciated as I have cleaned up water in my finished basement twice. They had all the parts on hand and were able to accomodate a last minute request to install not only a main pump but a back up pump with battery as well. The job was quoted before any work was started. The work space was clean when the job wrapped up. I was delighted at the professionalism and quick time it took to get the job done and the pump running again. I would most definitely hire Tarvin again.
Description of Work: The sump pump had stopped pumping but continued to run during our last big rainfall. Tarvin came out within hours of the call and replaced the main sump pump and at my last minute request installed a back up pump with battery.

He was punctual the day the work was done, the work done was quality and effective, he did clean up after the job was done, however he did not remove the old toilet; in fact he left it on the floor in the living room of the apartment in which the work was done. That was my only complaint about this contractor.
Description of Work: Replaced a toilet, water heater valves, a supply line to the second toilet, and checked and tightened the faucets in two bathrooms.

 + -1 moreThey were very fast, although the service was not an emergency. The job itself went well and the repair person (Ellis, if we are not wrong) was very professional. However, we were surprised to find that they charged a 1-hour travel fee even though the company is located less than two miles from our home. This might be standard but we still do not like it.

 + -1 moreThe plumber, Jim Pielage, was very friendly and thorough. He did a great job and completely cleaned up after he was done. The cost was very reasonable (especially with the $25 Angie's List coupon!). I would absolutely use Tarvin again!
Description of Work: Our shower was leaking down into our foyer when it was used. Another plumber had previously come out under our home warranty service and told us that the leak must be due to holes in the drain pan and that it would be at least $1500 to repair. I called Tarvin to get a second option. They said they could send someone out in 1/2 hour! The plumber thoroughly evaluated the problem, found the leak, and repaired it for under $150.

 + 1 moreThe entire experience with Tarvin Plumbing was great. After calling several other companies, it was a pleasure to speak to someone was pleasant and helpful as Michelle. They totally accommodated my schedule in scheduling the work. Jim, the plumber, called before he came and arrived on time. This job was very messy, but you would not have been able to tell. Jim was very careful and cleaned up after himself. He also had to move some items in the basement to complete his work, and when he was finished, he put everything back exactly where it was. The work exceeded all of my expectations. It was a pleasure to work with such a professional and courteous company.
Description of Work: Had a sump pump installed in a flooded basement/cistern. Work involved pumping out standing water, installing new sump pump, running all new discharge pipes, burying discharge pipe outside of home, and pouring concrete around new pump pit.

I thought $188 was a bit expensive for the job, considering that the sink & toilet were already removed to make the work space extremely accessible. I have no complaints other than the price, but in fairness to the company, the selection was based entirely on Angie's "A" ratings & Tarvin was the first company to be able to schedule the work. A rock-solid job is always worth a premium, and I haven't gotten plumbing work done in 4 years. Bottom line - I'm very pleased with the company's work, but will check prices with other "A" companies before scheduling the main & upstairs work. If there is no material difference in price, I'll hire them again.

He quoted me a fair price. Phil was my plumber. He called promptly at the scheduled time to say he was en route. He was clean cut, professional, and quick with the work. He explained what he was doing and what was wrong, and explained clearly an easy way for me to do maintenance on my drains. His bill, which included a $25 Angie's List discount was nearly $100 less than quoted. So, I appreciated their fairness in not just charging me what I was expecting to pay. I would recommend them highly and will always call them in the future.

 + -1 moreThe plumber arrived promptly. He was very professional and did great work. However, I have two complaints. I am really annoyed that the rim in the sink which holds the basket strainer is engraved with Tarvin Plumbing's name and phone number. I paid thousands of dollars for new countertops and a seamless sink and I now have an advertisement for the plumber in my sink. That's very tacky. My other complaint again concerns their supplies. The plumber couldn't initial the old disposal because he didn't have the bracket for the disposal. That was OK as I don't expect him to carry everything. So I bought a new disposal from him. However, I don't feel the brand he carried and installed is as good as the Home Depot/Lowes national brand. His product has no sound insulation and although it carries a longer warranty it's not in-home warranty. It's a brand that primarily caters to plumbers so you can't find parts or service except from the installer or specialty plumbing supply shops.
Description of Work: After new countertops were installed, Tarvin Plumbing installed a new faucet which I provided and new garbage disposal which Tarvin Plumbing provided.

Description of Work: The downspouts on one of my gutters was extremely clogged. When I hired another company to clean the downspouts and gutters they discovered that one of the exterior drain pipes that the downspout pours into was clogged. Tarvin plumbing was very prompt and courteous. They not only cleared the underground drain pipe but the downspout as well. I would definitely hire them again.
