Description of Work: Tod and his crew (5 members) removed 2 large Hacberry trees 90 to 100 feet in height from my back yard. Removed 5 Taxus bushes in my front yard. Removed and desposed of old rotten firewood. Ground out stumps, cleaned up wood and debris. Before the work was to take place a rain storm caused one of the large limbs to split and nestle against my neighbors large tree keeping it from destroying 2 garages and the corner of my neighbors house. They came and secured the limb. I would definitely recommend and hire them again.

+ -1 moreA very large double-trunked ash tree located very near to my house was dying and had to be removed. Because of the proximity to the house, the tree had to be taken out in pieces using a crane which lifted the limbs over the house and out to the street. Sherdec's estimator, Rich, did an excellent job of explaining to me how the job would be performed and answered all questions thoroughly. I was involved in the decision about a convenient date for hiring the crane, so it fit my family's schedule. On the day of the job, everyone arrived on time and the whole crew was professional, careful and focused on their work. The job was completed as promised, no damage was done to my house or property, and all debris was cleaned up and taken away. This company has people with all the skills and know-how to handle challenging projects, and I will use them again whenever I need tree work done.

They were all very professional and my experience with them has shown them to always be helpful and to go the extra mile. They are extremely knowledgeable and can answer any question posed. Most importantly, they are HONEST and can be trusted to provide any services needed at a competitive price and using the latest equipment. I would unstintingly recommend them to anyone. They do a great job at a fair price. In addition to cutting trees they also have provided us with services by planting replacement trees (with a guarantee) as well as putting in new bushes and helping to remove honeysuckle. Great work all around!
Description of Work: We have had Sherdec for years treating and caring for our trees. Sherdec cut down 12 ash trees in the woods behind the house on 5/12/2011 due to the recent drought and the Emerald Ash Borer. I had them drop the trees for $1000. I decided this year to have the large trunks removed and the stumps taken to ground level. I used Angie's list to get about 8 estimates for this task. Sherdec came in with the lowest bid of $860 and came out as soon as the conditions permitted. We had waited for the ground to freeze but it never did. It was raining so much they had a hard time getting their equipment in the woods. After they finished there were still a few tree trunks that I couldn't handle due to their size. Once again Sherdec came to my rescue and came out and removed every trunk that I needed removed and even stacked the wood for me. I intend to give them an additional $400 as they did such a great job even though I don't think they'll bill me for the extra work. They use a small tracked vehicle which pulls out the trunks for cutting. It gets all around the woods and can haul up to 3000 lbs. This keeps the remaining woods from being damaged. Very Satisified!

+ -1 moreThey cut down the wrong tree. This was written down wrong on the estimate. They transplanted a bush and they did not cut a big enough ball did not put in enough dirt, and it fell over. When I complained about this, the owner said that I was trying to get something for nothing. They were very rude and would not help me. The company then took my choker hose and tied it to the tree and to the fence. They misunderstood what I was telling them and ended up cutting down three tall bushes that I loved, and were vital to the landscaping. The contractors were not knowledgable at all. I would never use this company again and would encourage anyone to stay away from them.

+ -1 moreTom Wills, an arborist with Sherdec Tree Service gave us an estimate on July 3, 2010. It took almost a week for them to call back and set up an appointment for an estimate, but Tom showed up promptly when scheduled for the estimate. His sales pitch was very good, but his price was very high compared to other bids. His estimate was $4632.75 for the same work done by a competitor for $3599.70. This is $1033 or 28.7% higher. On Sherdec's estimate form they had Angies List printed as an endorsement, but when I reviewed comments by their clients on Angies List I saw many negative comments which prompted me to go with a competitor. (There were numerous complaints that they had to be called back to get debris picked up after workers had finished the job).

+ -1 moreThey were wonderful. They had a great price, they gave me a discount since there was a place for them to unload the material on site. When I called them, they said they would have to wait until winter, so that the ground would be frozen and their equipment wouldn't tear up the lawn. I called them once it was very cold out and they came out the next day. They got mostly everything done that day. They were unable to grind the stumps that day, and they came back a few days later to do that part. I was very happy with the work that they did. I couldn't even tell where the trees had been, they did such a marvelous job grinding the stumps out. By spring, we couldn't even tell they had been there. They were very professional and friendly. I would definitely use them again.

There was only one problem that after they were finished I saw one of the tree limbs was hanging over the roof. He decided to get on to the roof and get that one down manually. As the branch fell it hit the siding of the house and made a dent. He was very apologetic about it because he just couldn't believe that happened. They were good about trying to figure out how to repair that, but, that couldn't get repaired.

+ -1 moreCalled company for an estimate. Was told I would be called back to schedule the estimate. Never got a call back but owner came 6 days later to give estimate. Thankfully I happened to be home so I could discuss the available services. Price was best I found - at least from a licensed & insured company. On day of service, I call company to see what time they would be there, I was told I was the second job of day and they would not arrive before 11:00 AM. Crew arrived at 9:00 AM - they told me I was scheduled as the first job of the day. Workers were great, very professional & friendly. Owner was very knowledgeable and helpful. Job was done just as requested. Crew was flexible to changes I made to original estimate. Downside was that their equipment left extensive black tread marks in my concrete driveway and my neighbors driveway. Probably would not have been an issue for me had I not spent hours power washing 4 weeks earlier. Was disappointed that they didn't clean up neighbors yard and driveway better. I had to do the work myself.

I made an appointment to have the work done, and the work crew showed up on time, and was very pleasant and professional throughout. I had one minor issue with the billing, and the owner called to apologize, explained why the error occurred, and why it would not happen again. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
Description of Work: Fertilized, sprayed and pruned trees and shrubs on 5 acre lot.

+ -1 moreI hired them to cut down 10 trees. They only actually cut down 7. The 3 that they left flagged they never bothered to cut down. They showed up 5 hours late. I called the owner and he said he'd have someone out the next morning to look at it. That never happened. I paid them 70% or the price for 70% of a finished job and they never complained. On the upside, the workers were all very nice, professional, and cut the tree into firewood. I would not expect them to repeat this kind of service. I think they are typically a much better company than this (I have heard nothing but good things about them). I think I just had a bad experience and they had a couple of slip-ups here. The price was very good compared to other companies. Only one was lower, but they didn't seem as reputable. This was done 3 days before that hurricane hit Cincinnati, so I can see how they would be quite busy around this time. This sounds like a horrible review, but I think the guys running this company are actually good people.
Description of Work: Hired to cut down 10 dead trees (killed by ash borer). Also part of the agreement was to cut the trees into firewood.

+ -1 moreThey put us on their list and said that they would work hard to get us in as quickly as possible. They called back in a few days and gave us a three-day appointment window for the following week, and said that we wouldn t have to be there when the work was done, they d just do it and bill us later. Before this could happen, and after a four and a half week wait, the second contractor just showed up unannounced and removed the stumps; evidently, they were heavily backlogged and we were still on their list. We had no idea that they were coming. Had to call Sherdec then and cancel; they had no problem with it. We appreciate their responsive attitude and would certainly use them in the future.
Description of Work: Lost two trees in the windstorm and needed stumps removed. Sherdec was actually the third contractor we called. The first didn t show or contact us; the second said that it would be a two-week wait, and after three weeks with no word and only a voice mail response to my calls, I contacted Sherdec.

+ -1 moreWe were impressed by the amount of large equipment and skill of the men who did this work. We were expecting a company to take the tree down by climbing and cutting it down a piece at a time like other work we've had done by other tree companies. This was a whole new experience for us. This company specializes in low impact and high difficulty removals and pruning. It has a code of ethics for its team of workmen which includes certified arborists. And, amazingly, Sherdec charged us no more than another company would have charge to take this tree down and away.
Description of Work: Hurricane Ike split a large tree down the center on Sunday night. We strapped it with truck straps during the wind storm and then started calling tree companies to get on a list. This tree was ready to fall on two houses and was located between two sets of power lines. We called Sherdec that night and were grateful to talk with a very nice representative. She sent someone out to evaluate the tree. We were told that the straps were holding and they would come to take the tree down as soon as they could get to it. The communication was excellent all through this week. They came Monday Sept. 22 and arrived with an amazing amount of large equipment including a crane, large chipper and bobcat. A crew of at least six men took that tree down along with another in less than two hours. They lifted the Bradford pear, which was at least 40 feet high, over the lines and away from the houses with the crane. They cut and laid a large pine between two close houses with ease and skill. These large trees were put in a huge chipper by the bobcat operator. The price includes grinding the stumps. The crew was extremely polite, skilled and professional.

Description of Work: Sherdec representative responded to my call for an estimate on same day. Appointment was made and he arrived promptly, and gave me an estimate after his inspection. Remove a large tree very close to the back of my house and a neighbor's house; remove deadwood and feed two stressed trees in front yard. The estimate was reasonable. He called a week later to follow up.

+ -1 moreThe company gave me a copy of their certificate of liability insurance along with the estimate. The crew was polite, friendly and professional. They did an excellent job of not damaging surrounding trees and buildings and removed the trees with expediency. All debris was cleaned up afterward and hauled away.
Description of Work: Sherdec removed 6 very large ash trees from the woods in our backyard. This involved bringing in a 50 ton crane to lift the cut trees over the house to be shredded in the driveway. They also removed girdling roots from a buckeye tree on the property.

+ -1 moreThis was a mixed bag. I am SO glad to have the trees removed, and based on other tree service I've had over the years, the price here was good. My complaints are really about communication. I found Nathan a little difficult to talk to -- we would "miss" when I asked questions. I was often not entirely sure what he was referring to. The biggest problem here is that we thought we had one giant tree in the back yard that he was going to remove for $2000. Instead, we had one giant tree and 3 smaller trees growing so close to it that they all looked like several branches of one trunk. The estimate was $2000 for the big tree, and $800 per smaller tree. I couldn't figure out what "smaller trees" he was referring to, until the day they actually removed the trees. Then it all became clear...only we had to decide whether to pay an additional $2400 to remove the other 3 trees. We ended up only having 2 taken out. They still have not ground the stumps; I'll have to nag--um, follow up.
Description of Work: Removed a small pine, two small red cedars, and an arbor vidae from the front and sides of the house, removed one large hemlock and 2 smaller catalpas from the back yard. Gave us advice about other pruning.
