Please determine for yourself as I am just stating my experience. Deck incomplete, paid in full, failed to pass county inspection and Dave Flynn claimed that it passed county inspections. Dave Flynn stated he would have Davie (his helper that he claimed was related) bring my paperwork and final inspections by the house to me. Deck still not complete - no final inspection - no final paperwork! Quality control does not exist! - You are the quality control- repeatedly for the same issues. Issues that were repeatedly identified NEVER corrected. Examples: * My existing deck has deck boards that are missing screws - pointed out to Dave and still not corrected. * My existing deck has large gaps between deck boards - pointed out to Dave and still not corrected. * My existing deck has a screw sticking out of the corner post by approximately 1/4" on the inside corner of the post that you pass each time you use the steps - pointed out to Dave and still not corrected. * My existing deck railings wobble and are not solid - pointed out to Dave and still not corrected. * My existing deck has nuts/bolts that are loose where you can back off the nut by hand - pointed out to Dave and still not corrected. * Dave Flynn cuts his own stair stringers - pathetic quality! Rather than cutting out the inside corner between rise and run with a hand saw he continues with the circular saw so the final product has crosshatch marks going along the stair stringers. Pointed this out to Dave and still not corrected. Plus some of his homemade stringers have already split within approximately 2 months. * I have oil stains in my driveway and in the street in front of my driveway from his leaking vehicles. Dave claimed he would take care of them and guess what - they are still there! * Boards not cut straight - aren't there carpenters tools that can be used to assist with making straight cuts? * Provided 36 low voltage lights to be installed. 32 were installed and 2 were returned to me. 2 are missing and Dave has no idea where they are. Additionally he lost 11 of the bulbs that came with the lights. Plus several of the lights are damaged(bent/dented) from them installing them. Dave stated if I bought additional lights he would replace them. Here is a thought - how about Dave replace the lights and bulbs that he damaged and/or lost? On to the railing - Dave claimed that in my county a railing cap is not allowed. I stated to Dave that the county website shows the schematic for decks which includes a rail cap. Dave claimed the picture that the county has posted on their website is incorrect. Now here is the good part - When I obtained copies of my permit information from the county, due to Dave not giving me the information that I actually paid for, it actually shows in Dave's handwriting a "2x6 top handrail". Now Dave what happened to your claim that you cannot put a top handrail on and their website is incorrect? When you applied for my permits that I paid for you wrote a top handrail. And guess what - after arguing with you you actually put a top handrail on the deck railing (only because "its already passed inspection") but what did you put on? You put on a 2x4 top handrail rather than the 2x6 quoted. And now for the big finale!!! - Dave Flynn stated the deck passed inspections. Dave was paid in full and stated he would have his helper, Davie, bring the paperwork to me. Guess what I haven't seen. Dave Flynn, Davie, or my paperwork. Why? Because the deck never passed inspection! Failed for steps not being anchored, two end walls need anchored, and no plans on site. Items identified that caused the failed inspection NEVER corrected. These are just a few of the more memorable experiences that I had with Dave Flynn. 3 attempts to contact Dave Flynn have been unsuccessful - Voicemails left on his cell phone: 8/31/10 @ 4:24 PM 9/2/10 @ 10:05 AM 9/7/10 @ 4:41 PM No return call. Dave Flynn's work on my deck is incomplete. Items identified in this evaluation are what the evaluator experienced and in no way are intended to imply that your experience will be greater than or less than the evaluators experience.
Description of Work: Dave Flynn, formerly Sharp Construction and now dba Flynn Construction(same address and phone as Sharp Construction and herein referred to as "Dave Flynn" or "Flynn Construction"), was contracted to build a large(approx. 620 sq. ft.) deck attached to my house and to include 2 sets of stairs that come down from each deck to a landing where they take a 90 deg. turn and come down to the ground. Lighting (provided by homeowner) was to be installed and there were to be 2 lattice sections (8'x8' total each end) framed at each end of the deck for privacy.

The floor joist work was done well, except an installed 2X10 in contact with a water line that later broke and flooded our basement. The workmanship of the framing was good. By our contract he was responsible for all permits. When we asked, he had not acquired a permit. We had to stop work so that he would. We were told that a drywall expert would be used, but the owner of the business did the drywall. He left huge gaps around the switches and boxes and between sheets of drywall that have been costly to repair. He would often not show up when promised. He cut his finger and left blood all over our basement upstairs carpet and bathroom. When we called he said his drywall person would finish the job. We had cleaned up the blood and his drywall guy did not show up or call, so we fired him. We found out that his check bounced for the permit. We had to pay the permit and bad check fee. Just last month our basement flooded again because he improperly rewired the sump pump outlet.
Description of Work: Phase one was to install sister joints to the floor joist to sure up our floor. (Completed) Frame and run electric. (Completed) Hang and finish drywall. (Unfinished) His quote is actually what he charges.
